If I remember correctly, the three guys from Full Force (who produced this) were in the House Party movies. Lisa Lisa was pure 80s awesomeness! "Lost In Emotion" has to be next, followed by "I Wonder If I Take You Home"< "All Cried Out" and "Let the Beat Hit 'Em." Lisa Lisa (real name: Lisa Velez) was a kid of 20 when this came out. And she's still going!
Oh!! Forgot about All Cried Out.....you're right...Full Force was in the Part 1 and 2 of the House Party movies....Let the Beat Hit 'Em is a club classic, too
Lisa Lisa along with Gloria Estefan both hit it big in 1985. They were the first of many latin female artists to have crossover success with latin infused music. They had several bangers that got us on the dance floor including: Can You Feel The Beat, I Wonder If I Take You Home, and Let The Beat Hit 'Em.

Now this was the bomb! Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were the soundtrack to my Junior High years! Can You Feel the Beat, I Wonder if I Take You Home, All Cried Out and Lost in Emotion are some of the best!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes! Lisa Lisa was definitely the jam! I think you'll also LOVE 80s power house, Taylor Dayne - "Tell it to My Heart", "Prove Your Love", "Love Will Lead You Back", "I''ll Always Love You", "Don't Rush Me"! Taylor Dayne would make a great FF reaction!! Thanks guys!!
"Did this make 80's kids get out there and dance?" Yes, and so much more! The question I'd like to know is what do folks your age do for fun these days? Going clubbing and dancing was the thing to do in the 80's.
I liked the 80s because it wasn’t as segmented as now - common to have different types of music in your car: Led Zepplin, Earth Wind & Fire, Van Halen, Sade, Willie & Merle, Grandmaster Flash - you could have all those tapes and more and it wasn’t considered strange
Freestyle was very popular... Sheila E, Expose, Noel, Lisette Melendez, The Cover Girls, Shannon. That latin infused genre will always get you dancing your butt off!
Amber & Jordan, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were an urban contemporary band and one of the first freestyle music 🎶 groups to emerge from New York City 🏙 in the 1️⃣9️⃣8️⃣0️⃣’s. Cult Jam consisted of vocalist 👩🎤 Lisa Lisa (Velez), guitarist 🎸/bassist Alex "Spanador" Moseley, and drummer 🥁/keyboardist 🎹 Mike Hughes. They were assembled and produced by Full Force. I was sooo excited when I saw that you were reacting to this! This was a BIG hit pre- JLO. It's one of my all time favorite songs and groups. The 80's were so much fun to grow up in, I was a teenager when this came out. Music was more about having fun and enjoying life. Great reaction!
Lisa Lisa!!! I remember watching this video all the time on The Box....they definitely had some street jams like Can You Feel the Beat and I Wonder If I Take You Home with Full Force
Yes, we danced our butts off to them! You have it right. The 80s were all about the music & dancing. I am so happy that I was an 80s kid. Graduated in 1982 so, I was old enough to go and enjoy the NYC nightlife in my 20s. We had a blast.
You are so right Amber...we 80s ladies had a serious vibe and we wore it well...Our clothes, shoes, makeup and the most important...Our awesome hair!!! lol! Great time to be alive and to be a sexy 80s lady!!
Yes, the group Full Force produced and wrote for Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Check out All Cried Out where she sings with Paul Anthony George and Lucien " Bow Legged Lou" George of Full Force. The guys from Cult Jam are Mike and Alex (Spanador). Check out Full Force also.
All cried out and I wonder if I could take you home - are the best of LIsa Lisa and The Cult Jam - I remembering crying my eyes out in middle school to “I Am All Cried Out” over my first crush who had Green Eyes - and did not know I existed.
I grew up and live in New York!! I was a teenager in the 80s!! Lisa Lisa and Exposé who you also reacted to was known to us New Yorkers as Freestyle artists!! There are so many others that I would love to recommend to you guys!!!
Glad to see you're getting to those mid 80's hits. Try Atlantic Starr Secret Lovers, Pebbles Girlfriend, and Jody Watley Don't you Want Me, Sheila E Love Bizarre, and Prince It's Going to be a Beautiful Night...
This came out during my college years, and it definitely got me up on the dance floor when I went out with my girlfriends. I still love listening to a lot of the 80's music, since it brings back great memories.
You should definitely did into their catalog more. They had a lot of hits like I Wonder If I Take You Home, Can You Feel The Beat, All Cried Out, Lost In Emotions, Let The Beat Hit Em, and Little Jackie Wants To Be A Star.
You are right there were so many songs to dance to in the 80s, in 1980 I was 18 years old and we were in the clubs dancing 3 to 4 nights a week. If I could relive it all over again I would.Best times in my life BAR-NONE!!
4th hit song and debut from their second album in the 80s was first produced by male body-building R&B group Full Force. This popular R&B group released a few albums with some hits that weren't as popular as this song before disbanding. Lisa Lisa still performs solo.
"Can you feel the beat" is a DOPE jam. It was always played at the clubs. Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam is in the Freestyle genre, a type of dance music style.
I love growing up on Freestyle Music. It reminds me of going to the Ice Arena back in the days every Friday Night with my friends. Our parents use to drop us off at the Ice Arena and we dance and skat till 11pm. Miss the good old days
I remember relaying this song over and over on my BOOM box to learn the lyrics. 14 karat love, you are my jewel of the Nile, when we make love diamonds are forever...
One of my first concerts that I ever went to was New Edition and the opening act was Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. At this time they only had one song out, which was,"(I Wonder if I) Take You Home"which was a banging ass first hit that got a lot of attention that the group just built upon later. Lisa Lisa came out with her hair covering one of her eyes and she had all us young boys crushing on her. She sang the song for 20 to 30 minutes and was someone you had to watch. Also, this song y'all reacted to was the typical sound from Full Force. You could always tell their sound from all the others. They also had hits for themselves besides what they produced for so many other artists.
Amber & Jordan Put Stacy Lattisaw on your list.A Washington,D.C. native."Love On A Two Way Street" was her biggest, most popular hit song. Stacy was 13 years old when she recorded the song in 1981."Let Be Your Angel" is also a classic.
It’s really funny you mentioned “Free”. This music was classed under Freestyle which was REALLY BIG at the time in the early to mid 80s. I know many say to listen to Lost in Emotion, but I beg to differ. For a closer freestyle taste, I’d recommend I wonder if I take you home and Can you feel the beat within my Heart. But you really need to listen to All Cried Out. She’s still going strong all these years later! One of our neighbourhood celebrities and always lovely to everyone when we ran across her.
Oh, and this was definitely a song that got us out on the floor shaking our collective booty! Class of '85; I was working at Disneyland when this came out. What a great summer that was.
"Spanish Fly" was an album EVERYONE in my neighborhood owned. Good stuff. Our high school cheerleading squad actually did a routine to their other big hit around this time, "Lost In Emotion".
This song was so huge, nightclubs where playing it all the time, girls were running around (including me) with the with the big hair, heel boots, always some kind of blazer, jacket or duster, so much makeup and I think we all had the Janet Jackson, Lisa Lisa, Vanity, Appalonea (check spelling) hair cut. Oh how I miss those days.
This song was the reason I started dating my ex-husband. We were at a club and he whispered in my ear ‘what’s your favorite song right now?’ I immediately said Head to Toe. He walked through the crowd to the DJ booth and made my request for me. When it came on, I lost my mind out on the dance floor. He said it was a gift for him to see me light up that way emotionally over a song… and if music lit me up like that, he knew I had a beautiful soul. Best feeling in the world at that point in my life, I was 17. Amber, you know what feeling I’m talking about because you mentioned your Mom and Dad came to life with songs of her youth too (Brick House). We were ‘Born, Born, Born to be Alive’ and dance. 😉💃
Can You Feel the Best, I Wonder if I take you Home, All Cried Out,Lost in Emotion, Someone to Love me for me, Let the Beat Hit 'em. So many great hits to choose from. They were essential club music in the 80's!

Yeah they produced all of their albums except the last one in 1999
She looks great too.... It's like Lisa Lisa and Sheila E found the fountain of youth lol
Dang she turns 55 this year. Good for her in going on.
Lisa Velez was my P.A.L. summer camp counselor, we grew up in the same NYC neighborhood, Hells Kitchen 💪♥️
I had to go back and read that comment again, because in MY world P.A.L means Parolee At Large. 🙂
