    The thing about you, is that your demeanor, attitude, and way of speaking is of a doctor or counselor, but your fighting and movements are of a coldblooded assassin with devastating precision. You have a kind, supportive, classy family and upbringing in a sport filled with guys from horrible backgrounds. You're also humble but tactful. Mr Varga I hope you stay the way you are, because you are a legend in the path towards being an immortal icon. We are lucky to have you in our era.

      Fighters like Varga are few and far between. He’s an absolute gentleman and works to lift others up, but when he’s in there he is ruthless, cold and calculating. He embodies the spirit of martial arts and what it means to be a warrior

    It's interesting to learn you do some type of disconnect when you go into the fight because you don't like to hurt others. That was one of the reasons I didn't compete much. I just don't have the drive to hurt others unless is a self defense situation or I'm defending others.

    I really like Gabriel.

    • @asengeorgiev7848
      @asengeorgiev7848 2 роки тому +1

      Why would you think that you're the only one who doesn't like hurting people and has some issues with doing so? I know quite a few people who train in the martial arts and are the same way. Any of them would still hurt people if it's necessary, he just wouldn't enjoy doing it.
      Granted, not a popular stance, doesn't seem macho enough and doesn't do much to promote professional fights.

  • @KatonRyu
    @KatonRyu 2 роки тому +4

    The moment a respectful, soft-spoken fighter says, "The compassionate half of me that doesn't want hurt my opponent kind of gets thrown away, and I just think 'you know, I don't care if I hurt this guy'", that's when it's time to be afraid. It's great to see your reactions to the what the commentators are saying and that you learn from listening to them, as well as the obvious and mutual respect that goes on between you.
    In boxing and kickboxing matches, the disrespect of audiences sometimes really annoys me. Nearly none of them would have the guts to step into a ring, and yet they boo fighters who've been training for years and who are risking their health to fight for their entertainment...even if I don't like a fighter, I'd never boo them. I wouldn't dare to step into a ring, they do, and I respect them for it. That's why I always like seeing fighters and commentators being respectful to each other, because they know what it's like to step into a ring.
    At the same time, I also like that you're confident enough to say, "Yes, I want the card to revolve around me and be that big main event." I think your approach of earnestly working your way toward it while clearly stating your goal is a fantastic approach, because you truly want to earn it, rather than feeling entitled to it. Even though I'm not exactly a martial artist myself (primarily a fencer with some krav maga), I absolutely consider your attitude towards it inspiring.

    Fun video 🙂
    And cool to hear what you said about having good (great) technique lines up with my thoughts. Some of the people I train with tease me about how much of a form perfectionist I can be, but my perspective on it is that your form in a fight isn't going to be better than what it is in practice, so might as well practice being as perfect as possible to bring up the performance floor when you're dealing with all the extra variables in live action.

    By the way, is it really only knee on the belly that is possible? Because basically same principles apply on example knee on thigh etc. Point being if you have anyway only couple of seconds to ground and bound, no point using too much time to try to get perfect control position. Any position where you can apply pressure and control would work for a moment. Strictly speaking 12:45 some of your strikes were illegal because knee on the ground, but you could have easily smashed your knee on your opponents thigh

    Trying to not participate in the marketing buuuuut I have to say that I've been using magnesium supplements for years, and they're the only thing I find to have any benefit for my restless legs syndrome. Stretching, training and magnesium = no restless legs. Take a few days off training, no magnesium, and it's a nightmare when I try to sleep.
    Loved your fight, it was a bit one-sided and what was kind of impressive was just how much power you really have behind those punches. Like they're obviously hard to take even to the guard. That's something one usually only sees when there's a weight difference. I've noticed in sparring that just 5kg is a real big difference when taking punches with the guard up.

    I really love the bad Christmas sweaters, the production value and themes of each Karate Combat event. I just wished that Karate Combat allowed the low kick to the thigh. The Rick Roufus vs Changpuek Kiatsongrit fight showed the world the importance of this technique and the only reason to exclude it would be to allow more dynamic kicks (karate-esqe kicks) imo. That being said, Kyokushin utilizes the low roundhouse kick to the thigh with immense success. So, what is (and isn't) a karate kick? A kick thrown in Gi pants? Are Karate Combat officials worried that the promotion would deteriorate into kickboxing with limited ground and pound? Does that last hypothetical question completely forget the karate connection to Japanese and Dutch kickboxing? IDK. All I know is that the confusion about the knees and the ref's lack of understanding about the new rules inspired this rant about kicks to the thighs.

    • @psychedashell
      @psychedashell 2 роки тому +1

      Kyokushin took the thigh kick direct from Muay Thai, Mas Oyama acknowledges that in This Is Karate.
      Oyama was quite happy to take anything that worked.
      While I agree K1, Kudo, Muay Thai and MMA have less head punches due to thigh kicks Knockdown has less head punches because they’re simply illegal technique.

    They absolutely hit the jackpot in terms of commentator choice. Their rule set makes for interesting fights, their venue is interesting as well, and the pit is quite a differentiating feature. Hope they keep growing and eventually add a female division.

    I'd be honoured just to have Bas Rutten and GSP commentating on me washing a car 😎

    When I had my first knife fight competition, I used knees even if it was against the rules at a Kali/escrima tournament. I've even carried other tools, and I value the 2A with regards to self defense especially professionally working in private security

    What's worse, being in the pit or being in Calgary?

    Bas Rutten is my favorite all-time bouncer. Roadhouse was actually about him.

    One thing I noticed about that hook counter that spun Tommy is that after he threw that cross, why didn't his hand immediately come back to his head to guard? In the slow mo replay his hand just sorta stood there after the cross. I guess, it's experience

      if you look at regular karate tournaments it's basicly one closing the distance with an atack and the other countering....than seperation. almost like a dance. they are not used to forward pressure

      @@Jaburu You see this in kickboxing and especially mma as well. Even professionals get lazy with their technique.
