Great video. For those of us that don't have a Flir, you just move your meter ground lead from the engine ground and place it directly to the negative battery post, and if your reading matches your battery voltage, then your negative cable is the problem.
My 2003 Silverado, upon leaving a customers house., started fine. I stopped into auto parts store, was hit august day. Upon trying to start it. No crank. No start. Noted door chime all though no DIC or radio. Kept trying, finally started. Again when was engine at op temp hot air temp, no crank no start. Some time past , started fine. Then as tried to leave a grocery store nothing, no chime, radio, fuel pump whine. After lot of tries started. Starts fine when not in the upper 90s. Again turned hot took 15 minutes to get it started. 8 have clean the terminals, made sure are tight, clean all positive connections to the under hood fuse block.swwp relays, sprayed contact cleaner in the fuses, replaced ignition fuses. Replaced the ignition switch. I fixed it alright, now 4am or anytime during the day any temp. Sometimes will start for 1 or or more. Then can be 1 try will start. Ah modern vehicles. Rather have back my old novas on the cars swapped points for HEI never had a problem, the first 18 years, second 8, the SS 6 yrs ran hard very reliable. My new stuff ask what now will break?

That was the problem with mine too. The Negative battery terminal cable was faulty. I examined and cleaned the end that connects to the block and that worked.
Thank you Oz. Good job. Thank you for the video. Thank you for covering the basics. We sometimes get too involved with the complicated thoughts when we should always start simple. I appreciate your videos.
I have a 2012 Silverado (5.3). I believe the ground is bad. The truck has been acting weird lately. Some days, it'll act just like this where it's completely dead. A few times, all he electrical in the truck has shut off while driving but came right back. The battery and alternator checked out fine. My next step is to replace the negative cable, but I cannot find it anywhere online. I might try replacing the connector like you did and see if that solves it.
I have an 08 avalanche my son was driving it it quit and then I couldn’t get it to start again. The check engine had come on the day before it quit. It’s been sitting for three years cause I couldn’t figure it out. I’m gonna check this.
Hi there brothe I have a cadilac Escalade 07 v8. I have replaced every ground and cleans up But now when I scanned the car I get the code lost communication with ecm lights are flickering and thinking what you did here I think might be my problem thank you
I have a question, my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 dash looks like yours. Does your engine have AFM . I can't seem to find a video on a way to disable AFM without buying the disabler? The other videos show that you have a digital gear display with a M selection after the D. Mine is like yours with D 3 2 1.
2007 suburban , no crank and no start.Have dash lights but fuel gauges won't move. checked the fuses and relays all good and replaced the battery. still no luck.what should i do next?
Ban ground wire some where a d it's not to far being the volts leave the battery and go to the fuse box pretty much immediately. But I'm not an electric guy it could be that it flows threw the box ok but when it's coming back into the box is where your problem lies. But I think it's safe to say bad ground somewhere. Just my soap box on it
I put a motor in my 06 Chevy Silverado , but I can short the starter with a screwdriver but it won’t crank with the switch, I bought a new battery at Napa nothing and the starter is good ??????
Mslady41 it can be different things. I really don’t want to give you a false diagnosis without looking at it. To start off I would check battery voltage and move to the fuse box if it’s there. Now see if battery voltage is going to the ignition switch and if it is make sure when turning the key to the on position it distributes to voltage to the appropriate wires
Thank u Oz. Just subscribed to ur channel. Just wondering since it was a bad ground issue. What if u would've did a ground to ground voltage drop test from alternator casing ground to battery ground?
Good morning I have a 2008 Silverado several auto single cap I was watching your videos and I'm having the same problems no crank no start but all my lights will come on even in the dashboard sports what could be the problem can you give me some advice How to fix it thank you my name is Vincent Garcia And your videos are awesome

Also I have new battery, new alternator and starter . I’ve gone through all the voltage checks I get 12 v on everything

Oz, I have a 99f150 bad heater core. can you tell me how bad of a job that's going to be, thx for your help!
Most heater core or on the engine bay close to the firewall on fords. It’s pretty much a tedious job. But it can be done
That's some Hot Gremlin.

Mine had a bad crimp on the negative terminal
I have a Dodge Avenger 2008 had a bad battery & bad starter got that replaced & still won’t start. Any suggestions?
Is it cranking at all?
No, nothing. Gear shift won’t move and when popping the truck it won’t open.,I do have lights.

I found out what’s the problem. It’s the safety neutral switch.

Nice video thanks
Thank u Oz. Just subscribed to ur channel. Just wondering since it was a bad ground issue. What if u would've did a ground to ground voltage drop test from alternator casing ground to battery ground?
