  • This short excerpt from Elder George's treatise explains the qualifications for attaining the true purpose of each and every human being: union with God, or Theosis. Elder George (Kapsanis), former Abbot of the St. Gregorios Monastery on Mount Athos who reposed in the Lord on Pentecost 2014, presents the Orthodox understanding of Theosis and the essential path towards receiving this divine gift.

    ______
    Elder George teaches:
If man cannot be deified with divine Grace and divine energies what purpose does his life have? Only that he becomes morally better. But moral perfection is not enough for man. It is not enough for us simply to become better than before, simply to perform moral deeds. We have as our final aim to unite with holy God Himself.

    1) Humility.
    2) Aestheticism/praxism.
    3) The holy mysteries and pray.

Humility is the begining of wisdom, and the Jesus prayer helps center the heart in the nous. Nepsis with discernment helps guide the heart of man.

FYI - Nepsis is basically - a spiritual awareness that allows the seeker to discern the spiritual reality that it confronts in everyday events.

This was one of your best recording thus far. I can hear the clean tones and a lightness to your voice that comes from dedicated fasting during Lent (if I’m not mistaken). Thank you for the blessed teaching!

he stressed mental health had to be sound…
Psychiatrist Dr Amen said long ago: 64% of ppl have mental disorder.

I am in a very similar state as well. I believe we can ultimately overcome the passions with Christ's help. Take your time with things, be kind to yourself, pray to God, you will make it out of the darkness.

The servant in the parable who was given 5 talents wasn't expected to earn 10 more talents like the servant who was given 10 talents. The servant given only one talent wasn't expected to earn 5 more talents like the servant who was given 5 talents. He was expected to do something with his one talent, not bury it under a rock. Earning a little interest would have been ok with his master.
If you weren't given 10 talents, don't get down on yourself for not earning 10 talents. If you weren't given 5 talents, don't get down on yourself for not earning 5 talents. If you were given only one talent, try to earn one more talent. If you struggle due to a disability, then earning a little interest is enough as far as God is concerned. Such is his grace. God graciously judges your end point based on your starting point.
Have good will, act in good faith and put good effort into your trying to do good. You might not succeed because not everything is in your control. A lot of things outside of you are out of your control. You can't be judged for them. If you fall short, you will be judged by your will, your faith, and your effort, ie, what is in your control. But keep in mind that not even everything that happens in your mind is in your control. There are some passions and thoughts you can't control, especially if you have a disability. But you can put good effort into trying to better your mind. You can have good will to try to better your interior self. You can act in good faith to do so. If you fall short, perhaps it is because you were given only one talent. As long as you are trying, you are investing it. You're not burying it under a rock. God's grace will cover you.
The word perfection used by Jesus is telos which means fulfillment of one's good end. It doesn't mean impeccability. Keep faith with Christ and he will get you to your fulfilled good end. He will carry you if he has to. Your fulfilled good end is he himself. Have good will towards him. Act in good faith with him. He will help you with the good effort. His ability will make up for your disability.

What's up with Christ lacking the cross and the " Ὁ ὬΝ" in his halo ? This is not a true icon of our Lord
