  • refurbishing the rocker assembly on the 1977 MGB.
this engine has the 12H-2923 head on an 18V engine. However the rocker assembly was from the original 1977 head which was a newer CAM-1106 head. So, it had the offset oil hole. This mismatch resulted in the rockers being oil starved and created a lot of wear.
in this video, I show how I merged the two types to make a hybrid of sorts by salvaging 2 rocker assemblies to make one.

Great video! How did you manage to clean up your components?

I only use a few things for cleaning wd40 with a green scrubbing pad, carb cleaner for glazing issues, and brake clean. For badly rusted components, I use phosphoric acid. It was not necessary to use that on any of the engine internals.
I have a few videos on how to use that stuff. Works like magic

They removed the oil holes as they had issues with the oil hole ones breaking. There is plenty of oil splashing around to service the part requirements.

Comparing to two wear patterns side by side, it seemed the one with the oil hole was superior. And I gotta think the sound will be a bit smoother.
Thanks for you input. I am no expert on these. I do appreciate how helpfull the MG community can be.

That's why I doubt the value of turning the shaft over: the oil holes at the rocker arm positions will move from pointing down to up. This means that only once the inner part of this shaft is fully filled with oil, will it move to the bushings in the rocker arms and further onwards. The consequence is that every cold start the rocker arms are deprived of oil for a much longer time.
Of course one may add TSL to the engine oil to protect oilstarved surfaces from damages as I am doing myself, but why go this way? BTW this TSL product was used on racing engines loosing oil fast and it got cars still moving on the racetrack for a rather longtime without oil
