Inside the Night the NBA Shut Down

- Опубліковано 19 лип 2020
- March 11, 2020 will go down as one of the most pivotal moments in NBA history. Minutes before the start of the Utah Jazz vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game, officials rushed the court to stop the game from tipping off due to fears of the novel coronavirus. The game was cancelled within 30 minutes. It was soon reported that Jazz star Rudy Gobert had tested positive for the virus. The NBA reacted quickly by suspending the season. Months later, the NBA is set to tip off in the Orlando bubble. Watch as Donovan Mitchell and NBA reporters share never-been-told details about the night the league suspended the season in this short film.

Lmao they showed Rudy Gobert touching the microphones bruh
Thats history, wonder when it will be changed
no they didn’t
Carsyn Truong yeah they did
As they should he acted so stupidly.
Carsyn Truong yeah they did
honestly felt like a 2 hr documentary
thats how well the vid was made
Comments like these>>>
I just started watching the HBO Sports doc about covid. This 10 min YT vid was so much better
@@Matthew_Plus what’s the name of that doc??
It did feel longer than 10 mins.
That’s because this piece is taken from documentary itself! It’s called “The day sports stood still”. I don’t know why the vid it’s not taken down due to copyright
“I thought it was the FBI” cuts to Chris Paul 💀
😭😭😭
How is that funny
@@Icatt.926 cause he known for snitching on players to refs

Honestly, even though Rudy acted like an idiot and will probably never live that down, his positive test potentially saved thousands of lives.
That’s true he did act recklessly, but it would have happened eventually, James harden was still at strip clubs every nigjt
Agree. You can't get mad at him for getting it. It was probably wrong place wrong time. He was reckless during the press conference, but the cases were going to happen at the rate the virus was going.
You don't understand how the virus works. No one is dying that wasn't already at a high risk of dying anyway. Even fucking Trump for God's sake is recovered now, and that dude is obese and likes eating McDonald's.
@@therealestg9 that is true! especially this is the dude who has the bizarre philosophy on exercising.

Adam Silver the best commissioner in Sports. Man has balls of steel
Lol 😂 for real!
More like Silver.. silverballs
He is a thousand times better than Roger Goodell
@@noahnajjar3075 roger goodell is just complete shit and adam silver is amazing and by far one of the best commissioners. Big gap between these 2
Lol I read it wrong. I thought you said Adam silver is the best commissioner in the NBA.
This is heartbreaking to watch with all in the world that is going on right now.
With the pandemic, Kobe’s death the coronavirus depression and the George Floyd protest, this is the most depressing year I’ve ever seen and it’s not going to be the same for years to come. 😢😭🤧
How old are you? Need more context to understand how big a statement this is.
J5 Jackson I think he was taking to the other guy...

J5 Jackson not to be offensive but are you ok?
@@Thomas31392 I didn't want to Stoke the fire but had the same question. I hope so
The Kobe mention hits different man😢
Why
Your Mom 23 because he was like the father of the NBA. He taught and inspired so many people in this world.
Got teary eyed just because of it.
“I’m 23, I’m a kid” So true
Ok but, his point is he has fears too.
I can’t wait for when they make 2020 a 30 for 30 or even a docuseries 5-20 years down the road
Imagine if the jazz somehow won the championship, (Not a jazz fan btw), that would be the coolest documentary about how they kind of where one of the first teams to get it and then come together
Mark-Dog Sports that would be the sickest documentary man, especially after how much the Jazz have been through from constantly being stopped by the Bulls to extreme mediocrity in the 2000’s to the corona drama

When I got the notification I was freaking out a lot
That night was one of the most memorable nights for me. I remember everything that happened that night. I never thought that the NBA would just shut down like that. After the NBA shutdown, dominoes started falling one by one. I woke up the next morning, in a whole new world.

adam silver saved lots of lives, mans gonna go down as the best commissioner of all time and no one will ever take that from him, were lucky to have him
Yep, no propaganda what so ever! (Sarcasm) for the govt uses sports to enforce their election year oppression propaganda. None of it was real, shut down the whole thing because someone has a sore throat and light fever! Oh no! Fuk the nba!

My family was at Disney that day. Mom decided we all needed to go home after this. It’s a good thing she decided to. Because it turns out i was positive. I probably spread it to so many more people during my days at Hollywood and Magic Kingdom. We planned to finish that trip at EPCOT in summer. We finally finished it in in October 2021. Everything turned upside down that day. It still isn’t right side up.
We're literally going to be in the history books. I always wondered what would it be to live in a pandemic situation. I regret wondering it now.
I remember this night like it was yesterday I was at a school event and when I get home I go on Twitter and all I see is NBA season suspended and I was upset because the thing I loved the most was gone for months and no one knew when it was coming back
I was there. Sadly. I upgraded my seats from all the way in the back to the front in row 7. Then they bring out the halftime show early. Then the game got postponed
Hard to believe it's been a year. It was so surreal. It's definitely one of those "You knew/remembered where you were" deals because it was so significant as everything came to an absolute halt.
I remember being in my science class and he would show a graph about the virus in late Feburary- March and the way the virus spread was crazy, I remember it having like 4k and in a week it was a 60k. Then I remember going home playing ps4 with my friends and going on instagram and saw the NBA shut down and thats when the virus really started getting serious and here we are, almost a year later and this video gives me chills.
Same
When we look back on this year we don’t know what’s to come for the 2nd half but to this point this is one of the wildest years in our worlds history .. you look back at something from March everything feels like it was 5 years ago .. when we get back to normal whenever that is the appreciation for freedom an joy in the country will be something we’ve never seen before
Exactly my thoughts...
And what are the chances America will still be united then?
BR, more of these docs
dat sound design tho, props to whoever edited this!
This was one of the most surreal nights of my life. All in half an hour the nba was suspended, Tom Hanks tested positive, and the us blocked all travel from europe
My school got shut down march 11 in the afternoon, sports later that night... a day no one will ever forget.
Your school wasn’t shut down until March 27 in the afternoon
Teared up when Ernie Johnson mentioned Kobe
Ernie at the end.... Damn that gave me goosebumps
Using Rudy's image in this but not letting him give his side
A year Ago Today this happened crazy how time flys 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Feels like 3 years
It's been 2 years now
Been waiting for a video like this
man I’m cryin just watching this
That day when just insane my school got shut off as soon as i come home i find this out bro it was like 1 domino had fallen and know it was just waiting for every other domino to fall and then its like the world completely stopped
I remember watching that jazz at Okc, and as a jazz fan, still chills my bones as I watch this
Amazing video, well done bleacher report.
I’ll never forget where I was and what i was doing when the league went into lockdown. It absolutely felt surreal. I was chilling at home on my couch, listening to uzis newest album, and then all of a sudden Instagram and Twitter get absolutely bombarded with live news for atleast 20 mins just updating fans with details about what’s happening. First all we heard was the game is being delayed. Then we heard the game was being cancelled and then finally that’s when we found out Rudy Gobert Tested Positive. I’m pretty sure that’s when the reality of it all set in for everyone in the country, even schools shut down days after.
That Jingles to Donovan alley was so good
Lowkey miss quarantine shit not the same now
This nba season is going to be something to remember and this year as well. When I found out that the nba was suspended I was In complete shock and sa d
Phenomenal video! Great work!
Really sad when they mentioned Kobe Bryant’s death, it’s a really heartbreaking video 💔😭
Gave me goosebumps and chills. :/
Watching this now after things after been normal for awhile is insane to look back on
Wow that was a great video 😷
It's depressing as hell to hear that sports may never be exactly how they were ever again. But safety is way more important here, and if slight differences can keep us from having future shutdowns, I'm cool with that
Did I just get totally shook up by a mini doc about the NBA?!? This was surprisingly good, soo good. I was at the last Jazz game in SLC just before the OKC game and total shutdown. I flew back the next day to California on day 1 on full lockdown and spent that day (my birthday) alone thinking about what has just happened. It may just be a Game but this little Doc puts a finger on the pulse of how it felt, it was a domino effect and from Kobe, to NBA shutdown to day to day reckoning with a global pandemic and quarantine it's hard to know if anything will ever be the same. I cant wait for this to be over. The FIRST thing I want to do when we get fully ahead of this is go to a NBA game.
Watching this video actually made me cry
March 11th is the day I’ll never forget, remember being on Twitter & once I saw Rudy Gobert was diagnose with Covid, that’s when everything start shutting down & now we will have to wait until maybe the fall or 2021 or 2022 for every public event to reopen up
And what are the chances America will be united then?
This game was on March 27th in 2020. NOTHING BAD HAPPENED ON March 11th. Please Understand I’m right.
Get your facts straight the Pandemic Started March 26th and this game happened March 27th. Things completely went back to normal by June 2021.
This made me cry..
Everyone please wear a mask so we can get sports back. It’s not hard to wear a piece of cloth.
Fr.
Nurses have to wear them shits for hours but Karen’s can’t wear them for 20 minutes.
Facts man
Masks have nothing to do with when the country will reopen
Top Kek you’re wrong. If you’re asymptomatic and don’t know you have covid a mask will make it much less likelier that you spread it to someone who would show symptoms.
thats a hell of a video guys well done!
This just makes me so depressed
Very well done, BR
I swear these mini specials BR does are fantastic
2:24 My Man! The guy repping an OK Computer poster in the background
Great video BR
I’ll never forget this day
This was amazing. As an international fan of not just the nba, but also some others american leagues and sports in general who had no idea how it had hit the news I want to say thank you
Great video!!
This hit hard
Watching this with tomorrow being the 1 year anniversary of the OKC-Utah postponement
This video hits different
This mini doc was immaculate.
I honestly can't wait in a few years when movies and documentaries about this year begin coming out. It'll be crazy to look back on what an insane time this was.
The second the NBA shutdown, I knew it was only a matter of time till NHL and MLB
It was like Dominos meaning once NBA shutdown everything else shutdown as well. I believe March madness shutdown sometime after NBA did. Wimbledon was canceled. The Kentucky Derby had turned around. Olympics postponed.
I’ll never forget that day. And kobes death? Man...😢😢😢
I'm glad here we are, looking back at this point of our lives where uncertainty is an everyday meal.
2 years ago today man it’s crazy
I knew as soon as Jemele Hill popped in she would make it about race
i remember when this was announced everyone was thinking it was a bomb threat and how they started to cancel every game and everyone was like scared and then it came out that Gobert had it and it was the start of the season ending
We all miss basketball damn ☹️
A night I’ll never forget. Doesn’t feel right it’s been a year😔😔
I was there in OKC on that night when I left that night I never knew it would take 4 months for sports to come back and tbh it was the worst 4 months of my life.
@6:10 when he talks about the days wondering if its going to come. As someone who caught OG Covid in July of 2020. That jumped out to me. Waving to my daughter from across the hallway every night was not a fun time, but we did it and everybody is still here. I'm glad I didn't become a death number. It's a strange deal and I say that as someone who spoke to people in late 2019 that were dead from this in 2020. A generational crisis. I'm glad this (covid) is finally ending. It's been a long two years.
The nba shut down then a day later my school shut down still waiting to go back its been a lonely year. Everybody stay safe
Crazy it's almost a year now
Stopped everything in its tracks. I had seats 8 rows back behind the Thunder bench. I was at that game. Was a crazy night for the world.
They should make a movie about this
2020 has been such a mad year man. Damn
I couldn't watch the Jazz game bc I had to write my English essay. I heard Rudy had it and I got chills. That became real and I've never felt like that before, like this is something huge and beyond me and everyone. We know nothing about it. 2020 Is the most human year ever
if I was you I would be a Lakers fan since the Lakers have a better history and more titles 17
The timeline bit reminds me of Seconds from Disaster on Nat Geo
I remember doing my homework and then getting the notification that the game between the Jazz and Thunder, and then Rudy Gobert tested positive. After that, I was just glued to my television screen.
still watch this shii to remember the good old days
God didnt want Kobe to see the horrors of Covid19 in 2020.

We really lived the beginning of a dramatic movie on that night in March...
