    Had a similar experience (of course not with a Maserati, but the gearboxon my car gave up and I was told the mechatronic is VIN specific and a used gearbox wont work. I asked for a picture of the nameplate my old gearbox and got a similar gearbox (matched to my nameplate) and the box worked without coding needed

    It's because everyone claiming transmission by VIN is full of shit in plain English, Bentley said the same during my GT rebuild, claimed the same for engine ECU'S, all BS, I have a 2010 Bentley GT Supersports engine, quick shift transmission with mechatronic inside, twin engine ECU'S, instrument cluster, all installed in my 2005 GT with a complete front to rear wiring harness from my 2006 GT parts vehicle, along with the KESSY module from the 2006 with the 2010 engine and transmission all working together, my turbos are from the 2014 Bentley GT engine I purchased before finding the Supersports engine transmission package.
    Don't always believe the dealership !

    When you get a flooded car, first thing is to remove the battery/do not apply power to the car, you should change all the fluids, check all the computers/wires/plugs for corrosion and after that you may start it up. It may have corrosion issues come up eventually.

    • @cytherians
      @cytherians 6 місяців тому

      Draining oil is akin to testing blood. You want to see if there are any contaminants. Also, you don't know how old is the oil. Far better value to drain and then fill with fresh oil.

    JR I have the same car never flooded. The transmission had E clutch stator bushing failure at 35k miles. Wouldn’t shift above 3rd gear. I had to spend a fortune to rebuild it but the dealer wanted double what I spent. On the mechatronics the ECU is on a plastic piece that’s screwed to the valve body and the circuit board is on the side that attaches to the shifter.

  • @doingyamom
    @doingyamom 7 місяців тому +20

    Mechanic here, I’d sell that car as soon as possible. You may lose money right now but it’s only a matter of time until the next issue pops up and as you can see the issues that occur aren’t ever cheap. Remember, at the end of the day a Maserati is just a fancy Chrysler. And you know how Chrysler is with build quality.

    Flood cars can be a home run depending on the water level. As you now know with it being in such beautiful condition aesthetically, it would have been a true bargain if you folks had done the “save the flood car protocol” right from the start. This car should have been stripped down almost completely depending on the water line as soon as it landed at the garage. Every wire connection tested end to end, engine and transmission stripped down to every nut and bolt, every component checked and validated for its condition, and reassembled correcting all known issues and pertinent upgrades. It is a beautiful car and it’s too bad being just a bit over zealous smacked that down. But again, that is definitely a beautiful spec. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

    I bought a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte from auction, shipping and fees all in about $6,500. Wouldn't start, had to take it to the Maserati service center to decouple the rear axle to get it off the trailer. F1 pump in the transmission was the first thing to fix before further diagnostics. At the time I didn't have the money to fix it so I sold it to a guy local who was going to LS swap it. I lost $4,500 on that car.

  • @brucecoleman7412
    @brucecoleman7412 5 місяців тому +1

    First, having worked for a Maserati dealership, I can first tell you that most Maserati dealerships are multi line. They are not high volume sellers so most of the techs spend most of their time working on the cars that sell in higher volumes. Hence there is seldom if ever a tech that only works on that particular Maserati. Next, never ever, ever buy a salvage title flood car or car that had fire damage or been next to a building that burned. The problems never end. Corrosion that you can’t see will grow under the insulation of the wires changing their resistance and also inside of the control units. Once the failures start, they never stop. If you sell it to an individual, no matter what you tell them, they will end up hating you and bad mouthing you all over the internet. Your best bet is to run it through an auto auction and take what you can get. Take your loss one time on this car, no matter how the loss is. That will end up being better than losing future business for years to come as a result of bad publicity. There will almost always be some dealer at the auction who will let the lure of the dollar outweigh his better judgment. Let the end customer hate him instead of you.

Use it as a nice GT cruiser or use it as content for a real world cost of ownership and reliability study on actually daily driving an “exotic” if the maintenance is kept up correctly. I haven’t been a big fan of this car over the years. But that spec is legit beautiful for that design and really makes the car. It’s a keeper if it’s a loss now that everything seems to be buttoned up. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

But if you have someone who is willing to pay what you’re asking, it maybe a good idea and letting it go. No law says you can’t buy a NON flood car in the future.. one more thing, I see you still didn’t replace the suspension module that was missing from when you bought the car. I would’ve figured it would’ve been one of the first things you purchased besides the engine when the first one blow up of course. Love the channel guys please keep the videos coming.
