- Giant kite festival held on May 26, 2013 in Higashi-Omi, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Highlighted by a giant kite measuring 13 meters x 12 meters, exotic kites from all over Japan, a kite-flying contest, and more. Reported in English by three local kids and a few guests. Formerly called the Yokaichi Giant Kite Festival until 2011. Note: Due to the tragic giant kite crash in May 2015, this kite festival has been suspended. Weird Japan. There is festival just for kites. In the Philippines it was just a past time. Wind is not that strong that day.
It's for preserving old traditon. So they won't use modern material.

Sad to report that due to the tragic giant kite crash in May 2015, this kite festival has been suspended. As of March 2018, it is still unknown when this kite festival will restart.
