Jailbreaking cars to unlock software-locked features is gonna become more and more common as cars become computers on wheels.
Car as live service.
Cars are already computers on wheels, pretending like this isn't the case is just ignoring the problem
Cars have been computer controlled in some form since mid-90s. It's cloud connection and DRMs that are shit.
Here come the car's lawyers! You can't do what you want with something that you own! You've got to pay a monthly subscription or we will brick your device!
Often times it's easier to just design a completely new module from the ground up then try and jailbreak the existing one and make it do something it was never supposed to do.
As much as I wanted to see the bus reach its final form, it's your project, your time, your energy, and thus, your decision. If parting with it declutters your brain, your workspace, and your life in a positive way, do it. Also, those Solos are friggin' adorable!
It was also a ridiculously dumb project. I just don't want him to scrap all that metal. It's flat. Lean it against the wall. Having a stash is extremely important to anyone doing anything like this. You MUST be a hoarder with certain stuff to do this well and more importantly, to manage the finances of it.
@@tarstarkuszYeah, made even more ridiculous when he was planning on converting it to full electric. The point of the thing was for going on road trips why would you want to stop and wait for the batteries to charge all the time on a road trip?
As Bad Obsession's Escargot is also indefinitely on hold I would be a little sad to see the bus project terminated. I also would hope you could find another person to take it on rather than parting it out.
Oh, and what happened to the racing Yugo Tavarish gave you?
@@misterquintus I'm pretty sure he sold the Yugo.
Personally would be saddened by the bus being destroyed entirely. I could see someone wanting to buy it off of him as is, and finishing it themselves! If I had the resources I'd certainly be privy to the idea, but I don't have the space or time at the moment.
Dude, we like watching you be happy. If you aren't happy with the bus, we don't want you working on it
that's a really good way to put it.
100%. Last thing I want to watch is someone begrudgingly working on a project they’ve lost passion in!
I genuinely started to wrote this comment and seen you had already. Totally agree. Be happy and I would rather watch something you are enthusiastic about. Keep it silly and fun.
Agree. Just sell it as a prospect or in parts.
You probably need the space, both physically and psychologically.
So make it having fun, or just drop it for other projects.
Agreed
Hi Robert, the Fiat's problem could be the clutch cable. I know it seems like it can't be, but I've seen it before. The cable is coming lose and the clutch is not managing to fully engage/disengage and is as confused as you and I have been regarding this issue. I have experienced this and only found the problem when the cable totally detached from the clutch arm and was left stranded while doing an Italian tune-up as I also thought it was a fuel issue. The nut had come loose and is probably still sitting on some road outside the Circuit de Catalunya. Thankfully 50 years ago most nuts on a car were the same, so I took one off of a plastic trim around the fuel filler cap and used it to do a "temporary" fix and to this day that nut is still there holding the cable in place :)
old seats had that issue i believe, so could be
Interesting read, thank you !
The pleasure of watching you building the bus isn't the bus. It's watching YOU. I don't care about the bus to be honest, there's nothing I gain from it besides thinking "cool" for a minute. But I do care about you! Just seeing how you are working on projects that you like. Whatever you feel passionate about will make for a great Aging Wheels video, which makes me very happy.
This is so true. ''The pleasure of watching you building the bus isn't the bus. It's watching YOU.''
I agree wholeheartedly. As a fellow ADHD diagnose-eee, the value of mental de-cluttering can not be overstated. You need to do what is best for you, and in turn, that will translate into better, more engaging, passionate videos (i.e. if you're bored with a project, we'll be bored with the video). Plus (and I can't emphasize this enough), I would love to see at least one of us get a project finished! 😂 Since it's not going to be me, I'm happy to settle for living vicariously.
I think the project over-reach was the problem with this project. He should have JUST did the rear bed conversion, before doing all the rest, like the cabin conversion, electric conversion, home conversion.
Spot on!
here here
There is no shame in nuking a project that isn't working. If you just don't like what you are working on, it shows. It is bad for you and it is bad for the channel. The comments section has no right to tell you what to do, so you do what makes you happy and everyone down here in the pergatory can just deal.
No matter the project I would never give a creator shit for selling a project they don’t like, if you do you’re basically treating the creator like your slave by forcing them to suffer through.
It was an absolutely stupid project doomed to failure from day 1. I am proud to say I loudly opposed this project from the beginning and then especially when he decided to make it electric.
I can only imagine how much money would end up spent to finish it up completely. Even for a youtuber, that's a ton of money
He dodged the sunk cost fallacy well
Well said, I have a friend who recently dropped a project he wasn't really interested in anymore. Guy has made more progress on his new project in a month than the last 2 years of his old one
As a fellow ADHDer, your happiness and fulfillment are more important than seeing a project through. I know what it's like to be 'forced' through a project you've lost interest in. If you want to give it up, give it up. I'm here for your wit, humour and know-how. Not just for the bus.
Same here. I completely relate to that "big distracted elephant in the room" as he put it
@@sadmac356 Yep.
I've been watching this channel since before the bus project. I remember how excited you were in the video when you bought it, and how excited you were as you talked about all the cool plans you had come up with for it.
I've also watched the next five years as your enthusiasm fell away and the prospect of working on the bus seemed more like a chore you were forced to do rather than a fun way to spend your time.
I also have ADHD, and I've had to abandon a few projects myself because they were just weighing me down. It's a cool project, and I really loved the idea, but you've seemed overwhelmed by it for a while. If it's bringing you that much stress, then it's time to let it go. Your other projects will thank you for it! =)
Your grandma has peak grandma vibes. Tell her we send her our love.
He just better show up when Grandma needs those three things done.
@@ehiebert1297 100% or there will be hell to pay.
The turkey gobbling was the perfect accompaniment to the Trabi's cranking -- it was weirdly musical.
I was crying at this point 😂😂 The first time I've really questioned how I ended up here - watching a man starting a two stroke east German car to the soundtrack of Christmas fowl. Fantastiche
Honestly the main reason I started following you was the bus project. I wanted to see someone pull off a really interesting full conversion that wasn't performance based, something practical that you can't just go buy. Since then I've found many of your videos to be interesting, and worth watching, but the bus is what brought me here.
The Bus brought me here. But i stayed because I find you genuine and honestly fun to watch. That being said I've been really keen to learn about EV conversions and watching you tackle a big project like that has made me think that it's something I could pull off in the future. I really would like to do a long range EV camper conversion.
i was realy keen to see the end product but being able to stop half way though such a big project is a massive mental relief and being able to do that is amazing. I am 5 years deep in my street/race car build and every time I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I come up with something else to do. You do what you need to do. I will continue watching whatever crap you upload. Keep it up my man
That pause when you said you wanted to buy that truck from your grandmother but she instead just hands it to you is the definition of unconditional love.
It's Mothers Day here in the UK today. Wish your Grandmother a Happy Mothers Day from us !
(It's always a treat to watch your videos. Thank you for the effort you put into each one of them)
yep, it seems like gramma is a fantastic woman!
that was a special moment there, wholesome as can be.
I teared up a bit at the expression of gratitude.
Personally, I'm more excited to see more about the Escape than the bus. BUT overall, I'm here for the Robert aspect, it's your humor, edits, and persona I come to watch most!
Looking for ward to the Escape project updates.
Yep same!
Completely agree and well said
💯
The Trabant got me here, your personality, mechanical ability, and editing prowess kept me here
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it. I'm kinda bummed to see the bus project go away, but I totally get it. I was going to redo the air plumbing in my garage/shop a few years back and once I got everything pulled off the wall, straightened, and prepped for painting, I decided I just didn't want to go through all that work just to prevent myself from having to drape a hose across the room every now and then. So I scrapped the whole project. I'm way more excited about the prospect that this means you might be able to devote more time to the Escape project. I really hope you get that thing moving.
When i first got into RV'ing i remember someone telling me that your first RV is just your practice RV. All it does is educate you on what to look for (and what your needs actually are) for your 2nd RV. Very few of us actually knows what we want & need out of an RV until we actually get one (or build one) and try to use it.
I think you should dump the bus. If your heart isnt in it its not going to turn out well. Use the energy on something you'll like using.
Convert it into a sound-proofed turkey coop.
I live in my first RV and while I'm still happy with it, I made some major modifications. Changed my bathroom sink out for a washer hookup and ripped out the outdoor shower to install a residential dishwasher. I also ripped out most of the furniture that was built into the RV and tore down a couple walls.
Honestly the turkey coop idea is pretty smart. Much better than just sending it to scrap. I also agree that the bus is far too big of an undertaking to have as a learning experience. Perhaps if he kept the original drivetrain and didn't mess too much with the outside panels it would've been fine, but I think he's digging himself into too big of a hole to continue it.
That kind of applies to any hobby/project.
Your first attempt is mostly about discovering what it is you really like about the thing (and what you don't like).
It's the second time around that you will have a more complete understanding about your wants and needs.
And if you're really into it then you will iterate project after project in search of that perfect version you just know is out there for you.
Regarding the Polski, that's a classic sign of a bad condenser.
Yep, when it gets warm, defo ignition side
Yep, bad condensor.
Also valve clearances - they are very sensitive to the clearances tightening up
That thing has condenser? And points? The 1940's Ford tractor has those.
Yep! Someone in his original video on the Polski Fiat stated to buy a couple as standby. Guaranteed to go out!
Thank you Grandma!
I’ve enjoyed every single one of your videos, keep doing whatever you feel like working on!
I had a pretty strong suspicion the bus wasn't gonna be finished when the roof came off. You cant fundamentally alter the structure of a vehicle like that without having a real actionable plan in place to rebuild it immediately, the more time passes the more you start wondering things like "why the hell did i do this" and the harder it is to finish that project. Running out of steam/getting burned out becomes a real risk.
Same here. Personally, I never found a utility for him having such a BEHEMOTH.
impractical from the start for sure but i hate when youtubers get us all into projects then don't finish them ... leave that laziness for people like me 😂😂
As someone who start stuff and know that the more it's put aside, the less you're likely to finish it, this was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Especially on such a MASSIVE project.
Ideally this project should have been made in at least two part :
- making the bus electric
- making the bus a RV+car platform.
Even with those split project, it would have been hard to complete, but it could have given Robert more room to breathe.
I'm still a bit sad that it won't be made but ultimately, I come to see AW being AW with odd vehicles and silly project, not to see a 1960's bus being turned into some crazy EV car hauling machine.
WITH ADHD the transition from the most exciting greatest project in the known universe to the realisation you have already put way too much time into an idiotic and dum6 project...
... Its brutal.
The herky-jerky Fiat is likely because of a plugged fuel filter. It may have more than one.
I had a Subaru that did that, and it turned out to have three fuel filters. Changing all three of them stopped that problem .
Hade a fiat that the fueltank had some dirt in it and it did the same then.
Could also be the petrol tank either full of crud or rusting from the inside out (or both) which clogs the filter/carb jets. Had a couple of old VWs that happened on.
Interesting that the car ran OK for a short while after swapping the pump and carb. I agree with some of the other likely causes. Dirty tank/fuel starvation issue most likely. Try a remote boat tank for a test drive and fit an inline clear filter too. Check for air leaks as well on the inlet side. Those rubber hoses look a little fragile. 😃😃😎😎
I second this. Or there is some junk in the tank.
If one changes a fuel filter or all the fuel filters and immediately finds more crud in the new filter(s), there is definitely crud in the tank, or if one is not putting off the extra labor, yes, start by removing, inspecting, & cleaning the tank and fuel lines, since they too are likely to have the same crud. You have a smart viewer base, they concur with my point and added valuable information and suggestion.
I will miss the bus project, but I will have it's memory forever as a shirt. I found your channel (as well as Under Dunn) via the bus project, but that ended up just leading me into enjoying all of your content. I can't wait to see what project(s) takes up the right bay of your garage in the future!
i hope you keep working on the bus i really want to see it done cause i m building something similar to it and seeing this kinda helps me see how long my project is going to take so please keep working on the bus its a really cool project
While I was looking forward to more Bus Project videos, I think it's best to keep doing things that you are motivated to do, both for yourself and for your viewers.
Well said. The videos will be better if he is fully invested in the project.
Agree completely. The bus is why i first found this channel but i would hate for someone to felt forced to do projects eventhough they don't like it.
There's more then plenty of other stuff to do, why spend time it on something you don't enjoy....
Robert, I just wanted to say that beyond the actual content within your videos, one of the reasons that you're one of my favorite channels is because you keep everything so real and genuine. Your honesty with your feelings about the bus project or the clear respect and appreciate you shared towards your grandmother giving you the truck are just a couple examples of this. Ultimately, as cool as it would have been to see the bus comepleted one day, it's your time, your life and your project in the first place. Whatever makes you happy and fulfilled is most important. I think I speak for most of us when I say that we'll keep watching happily no matter what you do. Keep up the great work!
the turkey is being a turkey🤣
Thanks for answering my question about the bus. I enjoy your show. Keep up the good work.
I understand how you feel with the truck.
Do what you need to with the bus. I enjoy watching what you make. your process shows the learning and troubleshooting. If I were to leap into something similar, it gives me some idea of what to watch for and what not to do.
One thing I don't see anyone mentioning-- check for distributor rotor burn-through. To be that violent, it certainly has to be ignition related. Spark Voltage demand increases with throttle input, a burnt-through rotors under higher voltage arcs out to the centre-shaft of the distributor.
Re: Bus. Yep. Life changes, and sometimes projects are no longer valid. Personally, I usually let my dead projects sit until my ambivalence turns to hate. Obviously, I don't have to nuke a dead project publicly, but it is strangely satisfying to watch the rage generating project leave on a tow-truck/scrap hauler, etc. :)
If I recall correctly, I found your channel because of the bus project.
It would be sad for me to see it gone, especially since I love buses for some bizarre reason.
But, if giving up the bus is what you need to do, then there's no stopping that.
I drove a school bus for 5.5 years and drove a bus when I was in the Guard.
I love buses.
However, I hear good things about mental health.
I guess it reminds him of his ex and the journeys they would have taken in it that no longer will happen. Well that's my guess at least. Would definitely demotivate me to finish it or even be around it tbh.
I found his channel way back when he did the destruction review on the lancer. It's been years and I still want him to go back and do another destruction review.
@@Dan-Athemai assume he's long since gotten over that, and the bus is probably more a case of "times change" and he doesn't want a bus if he doesn't need one, whereas before he wanted one because it was cool.
This is why I like old radios, record players, and such. They're cheaper and smaller than cars, so the ones I never get to or never finish don't take up much space! I'm hoping there's another maker out on UA-cam that would take the whole bus from you and take it to completion. I always look forward to your videos, no matter what you're working on or what you want to show us. I wish I had the skills and shop that you have!
I would be happy with whatever you decided to do with the bus project. I am doing some project/mental de-cluttering myself and BOY does it make me feel so much better. You have a lot of projects going on and bouncing from one to another has to be difficult.
For the bus: Try getting a hold of Edison Motors. They are working on a retrofit kit specifically for Semi trucks and 2 ton pickups. That would be your best bet on getting something that is close to a plug and play solution (as much as that can be with Early access test kits) But i could see that especially in a Camper-style vehicle being a Great partnership between you and them. 1. Prove how easy their Retrofit is, how capable it is and 2. Have incredible support from a team that wants the project to succeed as much as you do
Oh yes! He needs to reach out to Edison Motors!
Was just coming to make the same comment, Edison diesel hybrid would be a cool project
Problem is that the propulsion isn't the time bandit, it is the rest of it.
Would be fun though.
My first thought on the FIAT is a dirty fuel filter. My second is a plugged vacuum vent on the gas cap. The vacuum vent makes more sense due to how long it takes for the problem to show up. Next time it happens, just crack the fuel cap open a bit. If you hear air rushing in, you've found the problem.
Good idle with stalling under acceleration is a fuel filter flow symptom.
I agree. I had a 1984 Nissan pickup (only truck I ever hated) that would do the same thing every 2 years or so. Changing the fuel filter made magic, and it would be fine for a couple years.
This…
Thank you for the update. I can empathise with how you feel about the bus project, I'm facing something similar myself at the moment.
I'll support whatever decision you make but it needs to be the right decision for you.
It would be sad to see the bus project go, but of course priority here is your feelings on it. If the bus is hindering you on taking on new projects or finishing others then it's best to end it here, and if you don't really want the finished project either way then it's just gonna be a pain to keep working on it. We watch the videos for you and your way of showing cool and different car stuff, so one project less won't make us go away ❤❤
For the Polski Fiat, my old Volvo had a similar issue. On that it turned out to be the engine and gearbox mount rubbers that where totally shot. And when the engine revved under load it moved way too much and yanked on the throttle cable, causing it to rev up and down violently. It only did this while driving too.
😮
Ooooh! That is an even simpler solution than the fuel filter or pickup! Brilliant!
You could also watch Garbage time by Dankpods as he's got one too (and has put the thing through hell - including feeding it all sorts of random stuff)
while he was showing the issue, my first thought was "that has to be hard on the mounts". you might be exactly right!
I had a vw do the same thing, except it was the carb twisting backwards under load because my center section had nothing keeping it in place
Just because a project ends, doesn't mean it was a failure. I've watched your bus videos 10 times over and I see in each one the ways you improve on your work and skills. Now, The bus has served it's purpose, It was your big long term project that you would attack until you reached a skill cap, then go do other things to improve, then come back and tackle the next part; but now you don't have to use the bus for that. You have many other projects that more align with the interests and desires you have cultivated since starting the bus project. No shame in knowing when to let go and embrace what makes you happy now, instead of clinging to what made you happy 5 years ago just because you've had it for 5 years.
Hi! Your videos and in diverse have been keeping me entertained en some vat informed. Start it out watching your bus videos. Giving up on the Bus projects is a mixed bag of feelings but you have to do what you have to do. Just don't give up on making more content, please and thank you.
thank you for making these videos, good to see after all this time the robin and the trabant are still in the collection and getting used!
When I don't know what to do or watch, I usually rewatch all the bus parts from the start, for some reason, it's very special thing for me and it's the main reason I found your channel in the first place.
We are happy when you are happy and if you don't find enjoyment in the bus project anymore, it's okay. I would watch you mow your property for 48 minutes while talking, I love everything you put up mate.
Same for me. The bus videos were the first ones I watched. I think the bus would still be a great project.
The regulation about matrix headlights was repealed in February 2022 IIRC, but no one has tried selling it in the US market yet. Your Polestar probably has it so they can reduce manufacturing costs by using the same headlights they use in Europe.
Came here to say this and will add it will almost certainly be available in the US first on luxury European vehicles. I can see BWM and Volkswagen adding a hefty upcharge for it since they can. And of course Saab and Volvo will just give it to you for free most likely.
I would love to see the bus project get completed, but fully understand and accept giving up on it.
Thanks for the update. Too many projects and i love it 😂
About the bus: if the project doesn't bring you joy and don't keep you up at night anymore it's the right thing to just drop it
I'll share you a trick I learned from dealing with my '89 Renault 5. It's probably pulling a vacuum in the fuel tank and is unable to draw enough fuel. A fuel tank breather (or the breather in the cap if it has one) may be the culprit. To test it, take off the fuel cap, rev it and see if the problem remains. Worth a try because it's SUCH an easy fix, so worth checking!
Super mega amazing kudos to you on your BetterHelp advert. Your sincerity and honesty were very appreciated. You're far from the only person who has been turned off of therapy because of bad therapists, which can be tragic.
On the topic of the bus, do what will make you happiest when looking back. I love the idea of it, but it is a gargantuan undertaking for ONE PERSON. You're a smart enough man to know if you'll regret killing the project. Or if the mental (and physical) decluttering is precisely the step you need to take.
I’ve been anxiously waiting for more bus progress, but the escape was the trial run for the drive train. That’s stalled for the moment, so I can see how finishing the bus seems far away or impossible. Also if there’s no more bus and you could post more on the Under Dunn page, it’d make me happier. Good luck on whatever decision you make, we’ll support you either way!
Have you heard the news about BetterHelp?
No, so I googled it, and they sold sensitive personal information obtained from clients. OMG how worse can it get? No one should advertise for this company.
Money was louder, I guess.
@@youdonegoofedbetter help also helped robert personally during his break up if i recall, so that probably also speaks loudly so to say
re: the bus, there's absolutely no shame about dropping projects that you don't feel the same drive for as you once did. It's actually great that you recognized this and were able to (maybe) act on it in time before you took an even bigger step!
that being said, maybe I need a motor or trans for a new project. ;)
I think over-reach was the problem with this project.
Great update! I'm a huge fan of the Escape project more than the bus project. Bus project was so 2021 and COVID years.
I love this channel, and all these great projects. I'm invested. Can't wait to see what's next
As someone who’s been very overwhelmed recently, I feel ya. There’s no shame in cutting out something that you’re no longer interested in/can’t handle at the moment. I did that too just two weeks ago and it was amazing.
I think the bus project was what made me subscribe in the first place and it's disappointing to not see it finished but if it's no longer where your passions lie then it's okay to give up and move on.
I'm here for the Escape from day one and still waiting!!!
I have really enjoyed the Escape project and REALLY can't wait to see it finished! I love electric/battery powered anything. Always had a fascination towards that stuff and watching this channel fuels the "want" for more!
I subscribed due to the bus project as it was more interesting than the cars. I appreciate your passion for the oddball vehicles out there, my interest in them is few and far between. So I would love to see you get the bus buttoned back together enough that it's a "WIP project car" for the next owner to continue it's conversion rather than it being parted out and scrapped.
That would be good.
I like the image of a rusted jack stand under someones To Do project. Had a friend that had an old 38 Ford in bits for 30+ yrs, he was working on the motor 20yrs ago but has finally conceded it will never get finished.
It's like the car in the field with a tree growing through the engine bay. "It's not for sale, I'm going to fix it up."
I'm more in support of your confidence with moving forward. Do what you like with the bus, for sure. It's been enjoyable to share~
I really enjoyed the bus project and have been waiting for more updates. However, I won't be angry if you drop it!
Aging Wheels videos are absolutely great. There's an honesty to it. The pace is perfect, the content is totally engaging and Robert is hilarious.
You say there's an honesty to his videos, yet he accepted the bag from BetterHelp. Funny.
I'm cool with you dropping the bus project. It's a huge huge timesink and while you can do individual small projects to completion, the overall project may take more time than you have patience and energy for. Also I want more Under Dunn episodes :)
I'm in the middle of an Under Dunn project! I've had to stop it in the middle because other things, but it's at least happening
@@agingwheels I'm not a car guy. I came here because of Steve Ramsay and Under Dunn... but I stayed because it's a fun place.
I like seeing the variety of projects being worked on and would like to see the fruition, albeit sometimes slow acting, but I think focusing on other projects first and putting others on "until further notice" holds, is a better way to unoverwhelm yourself. Taking your time to think about these things and basically taking your time to decide things is what I think the best strategy to take.
I wanna also add that I love your videos, they are well edited with your own goofy way and I love it. The topics are generally genuinely interesting and its a pleasure to see. For projects I like to see finished, the bus is definitely one but I understand if you need to take a long break or just give it up entirely. And even if you do complete the bus and still not want it, you could sell it and help fund more of the projects you do want to keep and work on. But as you said you could scrap it too.
Either way, love your content, treat yourself well and do whats best for you!
I would like to see the bus finished and would totally watch more videos with the bus being worked on. That said I wouldn't hold it against you if you drop the project and focus on things you find interesting. I just love the energy you bring to your videos. Keep up the excellent work!
Love the bus videos but don't think they'd be the same if you haven't got the passion for the project you once had, the main reason I love watching your videos is your enthusiasm and joy in what you're doing, would rather you focus on something you want to do than trudge through the bus to "complete it"
Hi Robert, as others have touched on, YOU are the reason we subscribe to the channel. The bus is an ambitious project for a single person to undertake, and frankly the segments that you produced will continue to provide valuable lessons for those who require them. If the final product no longer fits it's original intent, I say please don't spend any more time/effort/energy in the project. At least you can see that this one has no need or reason to continue. Many others would not before sinking thousands of hours, and for that I say cut it loose.
MAn I would LOVE to see the Bus finished. It has such a cool factor! Having a converted bus is one of my personal dreams and I would love to see you tackle the process.
That said, if you dont want to work on it, then it would feel kinda hollow to see you trudge through it knowing that you werent happy. Im fine either way, but I am in favor of it sticking around to be completed in the future.
Robert, I mean this with the utmost respect.
STOP TAKING BETTERHELP SPONSERSHIPS.
It's not worth taking their money anymore.
As a long time subscriber, I have never felt that the bus project really had the spirit of the channel. I would be more than happy to see it go bye bye.
The Trabant and Polski Fiat are great projects, with a large dose of comedic value attached to them, along with the 3 wheelers. I like your Nana's F150, even though it's 2006 it's a nice truck.
You had me until "Better Help." Please ditch them as a sponsor; it shouldn't take much research to see just how terrible they are.
In fairness, Rob actually used them as a client ages ago and found them helpful, I agree that in general they should be avoided but of all the sponsor spots run by them this one is the least grating
Absolutely rancid company; shame to see AW endorse them
@@bosstowndynamics5488That's fine, and I'm happy that he was able to get the support needed, but the company's privacy practices were the cause of the uproar, and that would have potentially included Rob's personal information, so I'm a bit surprised.

Great channel man, keep it up.
The bus is such a big and ambitious project! I think it is completely reasonable to assume a one man operation couldn't do it on anything but a long timeline. And, frankly, I think it's inspiring to drop something you don't have heart in anymore.
My back yard _is_ my some day project.
It's my apartment for me. 😆🥲
About the Polski, I had the same exact same symptoms in my old Subaru wagons (84 and 86), replacing the fuel filter was the solution in that case.
Watching your videos is like hanging out with a buddy in the garage; it doesn't matter what we work on, it's that we're working on it together.
I am a wood worker and tinkerer and found your channel through your other channel, Under Dunn. I may not be the right person to ask about this but I really enjoy watching you trouble-shoot, build and fix things. If I'm honest, I get more out of a bus or explorer video than a tiny car show and tell video, but having said that I enjoy seeing you excited/happy, so just do that. Do things that make you happy and the people you want watching will keep watching you. Thanks for taking your time to produce content for us.
Needing a camper was a smart idea...but now you don't need it any more. Just de-clutter a garage, sell it for what you can, scrap it.
I like bus stuff as much as the next guy, but totally understand needing to mentally declutter...and a 45 foot bus sure takes up a lot of space!
You might have spent a long time on that wall, but from the brief glimpse you gave us it looked to be of amazing quality! Do with the bus whatever feels best for YOU... whatever you decide you'll have learned so much from it.
I love the bus project and would be sad to see it go...but you've got to follow your head and your heart
Bus needs to be put on hold for the escape project. The custom electric platform is very intriguing. Perhaps consider the bus as just a platform to develop the one you now know you want. It also should be a practice for skills to develop for that platform.
The bus is on hold for the escape project. The escape only exists as a proof of concept for the bus.
Yep, projectception. This is physical manifestation of the ADHD, I know it all too well.
Fellow ADHDer here! I'm midway through a mechanical overhaul on my 1990 Trabant 1.1 and it's been tough so I totally get you dude. Keep plowing through and you'll get there.
I enjoy all your content, so you do what's best for you.
the look of the solo makes me really happy. it's like you had a custom car maker in a video game and put the sliders for the read end dimensions into the negative.
it's just so silly looking but also good looking at the same time
I'll always have a piece of the bus with our names to remember it by on my shelf. I remember listening to why you wanted to do the conversion to it in the first place and if that reason and passion isn't there anymore, best to just cut your losses and move on to something else you are passionate about.
At the end of the day, I enjoy watching your videos, regardless of what it is. Your personality, humor and video style is unique. I loved the quirky projects like the alternator driven cart, and the lithium lawnmover conversion and I would love to see some more woodworking projects on the Under Dunn channel if you ever want to share any projects you have going on in the workshop.
I think it's more than reasonable to put the bus to rest. It's served its purpose as entertaining and educational videos and has been a fun prospect to follow. The end result would be satisfying, but ultimately only if it served a good purpose for you (which it appears is slipping away).
I honestly have had more interest in the EV conversion aspect than anything, which is why the Escape series is so hugely entertaining to me. I think it's incredibly resourceful and inspiring to see old cars souped up to the modern electric era, and I'm learning a ton about motors and BMS and more along the way. I hope that project continues to be good to you, even if it's becoming a bitch and a half with roadblocks. It's immensely cool to see where it goes, and by golly if there's a working product at the end I'll lose my mind alongside you.
Take it easy!
Love the Escape project. Please don't give up.
came here when you were building the bus, stayed because of your amazing personality.
The Turkey is my favourite character.
Angry about you dropping the bus project? I would be angry if you feel obliged to consider other people’s opinion. Personally I watch your videos because I like to share the enthusiasm you bring to whatever project you are working on. So if you’re not enthusiastic and have fun, then dump it for another one that interests you. Whatever you like and brings you joy to work on. That’s what I tune in for. Good luck and have fun.
I won't lie, I subscribed at the beginning of the bus project. BUT, I've been totally invested with everything else since! If you need to part ways with the bus, so be it! All of your content is entertaining, regardless of which vehicle it is.
Take ur time on projects. We like watching the progress. Don't matter if its done now or in years
I'm following the bus project since day one. It pains me a little to see it may never be finished, but I always watched the bus project not for the bus, but for you and your passion. Keep being awesome. Best wishes from country of origin of maluch.
Reclaiming that massive space would make me happy. You can move most of the fleet over to that area and have so much more room in your proper workshop. Having the open space and freedom of movement does wonders for my motivation, so I can imagine it would for you as well.
I admit I'm not a patron, so my opinion does not weigh the same, but I have not been desperately wanting for bus content. Your best stuff is because you're excited and animated, and while it's amusing to watch you slog through stuff from time to time, they are always in service of a passion. Without that spark I can't imagine the product would be nearly as entertaining or satisfying for us, and certainly not for you.
I started a homebuilt trailer project a few years back. Like you i lost motivation for it, it didnt help that the way it was turning out was aweful, and i wound up giving it to my brother in law. Some projects are best discarded.
“I’m overwhelmed” what a good name for this year for everyone
I did think the bus project was really neat and enjoyed watching the segments and seeing how you solved problems to progress toward your goal. HOWEVER it's your life and your mental real estate it takes up, and if the end goal is something you no longer want or need, I understand dropping it. I do think that you should try to sell the big stuff rather than give them away to try to recoup your costs.
Best of luck. Thank you for showing (some of) what you do.
Robert, I'm with you on the bus project... We rebuilt an RV years ago put a huge amount of work into it and I hated driving it. I'd concentrate on the Escape too! Cheers!
You do you, but I would love to see the finished bus! I'm going to keep watching whatever you do though, so no worries!^^
I understand that last sentence. You Inspire me...❤
