Just saved me a ton of money… thank you very much for ur review and experience
From some one who farms and sells some tractor equipment do not buy tractor attachments from Nothern tool.
The complete lack of shear-bolt or trip-implementation for those shanks is concerning all on its own. One does not simply throw some shanks into some square tubing and then call it a proper ripper.
As for the shanks themselves... Don't even get me started. If they were made of proper steel, and were properly hardened, they would snap, not bend. I imagine you could have fabricobbled something up that would have worked 10x better, and cheaper, too
wow, just wow, you have more patience than I do, I would have sent that attachment back. No way would I have kept messing with it. But you did, and now it seems like you will have a good implement for future use.
Great video very educational, I learn a lot with your videos
Thank you! I try to help others with my limited knowledge lol Thanks for watching 🙂
Offshore "hardened steel". I know, I've been there more than once. I hope those new teeth work out well for ya!
Hope the ripper tool does a lot better once you put on new scarifier teeth. Northern Tools seemed to have quality products but now it seems they are an upgraded Harbor Freight outlet. Best to you Chris and thanks much for this video. Full-watch (twice).👍🏽🙂.
I hope so too. I didn't think their stuff was that bad, but you may be right about them!
Sometimes those "Off Name Brand" things just aren't as good as we hoped after we get them. Things probably would've even gotten bent if it was hooked up to Lil' Blue too. I did like your idea of putting the ripper & rock rake together for working up an area. 👍 It's just aggravating to get something only to find yourself modifying or completely rebuilding it to work for your purpose. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for it. Thanks for sharing.
I completely agree! I've already added it to the over the winter to do list lol
I feel your pain Chris, a couple years ago I bought a new J.D.3025 compact with a loader and Frontier Box Blade, first time i used i bent 2 shanks. Seems we pay premium price for China junk.
That's a lot of rocks! Might consider buying a rock picker and selling landscaping stones! We had a Vermeer rock picker as a kid ,we had to work the ground almost to powder for it to work properly
I wish I could, but stones are plentiful for everyone in this area lol
Well... For some reason, I have no audio at my end. Volume up, checked settings.. still nothing. But reading the comments helps.
Too much new knock off stuff is junk.. there is a lot of stuff built in smaller shops that is less expensive and good quality.
Lots of overseas junk out there too.
I know you will get it all worked over and get it to do the job!!
Thanks for the video Chris! Best of luck!!
Well at least you didn't have to hear me ramble on for 20 minutes about how much I was disappointed in the attachment 🤣 I actually did try to buy something similar from a small company here in pa, but they were way behind on orders and it would have been months before I got it. I should be able to get it fixed up 🙂
@@dehavenfamilyfarm lol.. I tried a few times, never got audio 🤔 but got the gist of it 👍
You are capable of making it work 👍
I've looked through alot of the northern tool stuff abd always wondered about the stuff they have
Hello
I just noticed something is the ear on ya rake BENT
The pin looks to be on a angle from the bottom
May need to straighten that first
Hope this helped
I'm almost done building my boxblade but wanted to build me one of these attachments. Not all attachments are built the same and I see alot of cheaply made junk. I hope my boxblade holds up now.
I had same experience with northern tool tractor parts..i have bought some things from VEVOR and all of them have been heavy duty..got a 16 inch 4000 lb set of forks with stabilizor bar for 140 free ship..also bought 2 cutting edges,,both are very heavy ..not the cheap stuff some places sell..
Well I don’t imagine the phones are ringing off the hook at Northern tool with people ordering those rippers now after this video lol. I think a small hydraulic cylinder instead of a top link strap between the 2 tools would be handy then you can adjust the pitch of the 2nd implement.
Probably not 🤣 That is an excellent idea about using the hydraulic cylinder- I will definitely remember that when I modify it!
Try putting the scarfires on the box blae behind it .
Cannot find this implement on the NT website. Gee, I wonder why?/?
That's a shame the quality is not better. You can't be the first person to have this problem with that ripper. I know you could have built one cheaper and better your self if you had the time. thanks for sharing.
I was quite disappointed! I think you're right, I should have just built one lol
So what do you use to grade driveways with
Depends on the condition of the driveway. Sometimes all I need is the skidsteer with the bucket and sometimes I use a box blade 🙂
I would get all my money back!! All you have is a piece of 4" square tube basically. The chisels are junk, the 3 point hitch is junk! And the frame is probably crap also. Cut your losses and buy one somewhere else! :)
Did You try moving an OUTTER RIPPER to the CENTER location?
Better empty at an end rather in the center
Thats too bad it didn't work out the way you were hoping. Those newer shanks look stronger and hopefully will hold up for you
Thanks Mike- I sure hope they hold up better, though I don't think they could be any worse! LOL
@@dehavenfamilyfarm Haha thats true, they can only get better!
Chinese steel, I bought a cheap box blade once with the same issue.
I'm on UA-cam...you're about to go on blast lol
Definitely hasn't been a good year for anything lol
he should have told them who he was before buying it.
@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 i do over the phone and then i hear the keyboard clicking to check my sub count and im presented with an instant attitude adjustment. They have everything to lose and i don't 😀
Does one from the boxblade work?
Yes it did!
I've never seen one of those made so badly
Man, that stinks. I just bought a grapple rake. I hope I don't have the same problem.
It sure does. I certainly hope you have better success with your purchase!!
After 3 years how's everything going with it did you park in the back 40 and forget about it or are you still using it
Its hard being a hobby farmer.
sorry that you are having bad luck. i gave up on northern tool and some other companies. they are just getting to cheap , dont work or dont fit.
That sure seems to be the case, and it's a shame... Thanks Jon!
That's disappointing, you'd expect better from a new piece of equipment. You sure do have some rocky ground!
I was extremely disappointed to say the least! That field is one of our worst- we can always count on it to give us a big pile of rocks lol
Very nice video but disappointed in the product you received, I believe you will make it work
Me too- thank you my friend!!
By the time you buy new rippers your a few pieces of square tube away from building the thing your selfm
If he had the skill to do that, he wouldn't be complaining about the 3pt hitch on the back, he would have just moved the blocks out an inch.
Ship it back and get one from tractor supply
man, that really stinks it didn't work out for you. Would have been great if it did. Also, you need some kind of rock picker. LOL!
Sure does, but I should be able to modify it to my liking. Yes, that field is terribly loaded with rocks, which was another reason I was disappointed the rock rake wouldn't work hooked to the scarifier attachment lol
you get what you pay for, cheap online implements
Those must not be hardened steel! I dont think the hardened steel would bend like that.
No. it would snap.
Sorry about your experience… CHEAP CHINESE GARBAGE. I was thinking of this one but I’ll just go with the EA ripper instead!
That thing is junk.
your tractor is just too strong
It would almost have been simpler to Buy a CHEAP 3 point Quick Hitch from Harbor Freight and cutoff and weld it to Your Ripper
Then All 3 Point Equipment Should fit
Northern tool is usually Chinese junk. 1 step better than Harbor freight.
Too harmed and too stupid. Too many big rocks still in the ground that straight shanks will not raise rocks up and out; there are decades old rippers that are better than this. That crap isn't good enough for pretty much anything that isn't already under ideal conditions.
Is it made out of Chinesium ?
