The fact that this is even a discussion is crazy. Whats even crazier is people agreeing. Choosing what you eat, choosing when to exercise, and choosing who you surround yourself all encompass the choice of being fat. There’s no excuses. If you feel like you’re being “judged”, then change something. If you don’t care, then so be it. Find it crazy people can’t just own up to their decisions and do a little self introspection

Before I went on my weight loss journey (still on it but I already lost 100 pounds so I’m kinda chilling now) I was 330 pounds. I was WHACKING FOOD DOWN lmao. Like it was nobody business. The moment I felt an INKLING of hunger I was eating. And I wouldn’t just eat one meal or one sandwich. I was eating two meals EASY and sometimes a whole pizza in one sitting. The problem with most ppl when getting into working out and losing weight is, a lot of the times ppl go from one extreme to the other. They go from eating extremely unhealthy to eating extremely clean/healthy and with that approach ur setting urself up for failure. When getting into working out it’s ok to slowly or at whatever pace u want to transition into working out more days and implementing healthier foods and not just jump right into it. Start with working out 3 days then when that becomes manageable go to 4 days, then 5 etc. Working out 3-4 days a week is still good and u can manage a relatively healthy weight. Some ppl do 5-6 a week which is even more awesome. At the end of the day the body is meant to move. There’s so many different types of exercising you can do whether that’s walking, running, weightlifting, swimming, HIIT, Pilates etc.

This is great advice; this also works for a diet. I've never been overweight, but I have had a soda problem. I tried going from drinking like 6 a day to nun for a week and it's pretty impossible. When you get addicted to stuff you go through withdrawals. So what I did was went from 6 to 5 to 4 and so on. Until it became normal for me to drink about 1 day or every other day. Now I'm trying to only drink them on special occasions. I've also tried other drinks to help me not drink so much soda.

@@aydenconner7 exactly, slowing decrease the amount of unhealthy foods in ur diet, that’s the perfect approach/way to do it. And it’s totally ok to have a cheat meal or day too, it’s not going to derail you off ur fitness goal and make you gain a bunch of weight. It’s totally ok to reward urself from time to time. The most sustainable approach to eating healthy in my opinion is the 80/20 diet. Eat healthy 80% of the time and eat unhealthy 20% of the time!

But its ALSO a choice. People don't have medical issues that suddenly cause them to be"fit". So it IS and ISN'T a choice. Also, its more about WHAT you eat not how much. Americans eat too much ULTRA-processed food. I people ate more organic, pasture-raised, grass fed meats and unprocessed fruits and veggies...NO ONE would be fat. (RESEARCH that).

    Hey yall, doctor here
Listening to this, I'm glad the lady in the red shirt was there to explain research to the lady suffering with lupus cuz she's misinformed. Plus, what we put people with lupus on are steroids, they do have a weight gain factor and early onset diabetes as a risk factor, but the alternative is allowing your body to destroy itself. We don't know what the end outcome will be for every specific person when we put them on meds so to blame the doctors shows a severe lack of understanding as to how health care works in general. It's not a doctor's fault if they suggest a medication and it simply just doesn't go well for one way or the other if that is the studied and recommended guideline and all checks and balances were done to make sure it's the right choice. We simply don't have technology that predicts the unique interactions of the individual with a drug that is recommended for your condition. Side effects in a sense ARE unique reactions due to the fact that some are very common, but others are exceedingly rare. So, yeah.
Also my take on obesity, it's unhealthy, there's no argument about that that makes sense otherwise. Medicine is so vast that there are conditions that cause a person to not be able to do better, many of them, but majority of obese people are not suffering from much more than poor habits, denial, enablers and their local Wendy's.

Man knew that he isn't at his best and is responsible for it, while the women always tend to be more blaming someone else and/or saying that they should be fat and enjoy being fat. Maybe something to do with how society treats differently fat men from fat women, as women are called Plus Size Queens, while men are being shamed for it?

Theres a reason gluttony is one of the 7 sins. Its a lack of self-discipline, greedy, and selfish. It’s actually a huge problem to promote obesity under body positivity. Like promoting a sex addiction , materialism, laziness, agression, envy or pride.
Fact is, for the majority of obese people it’s a psychological problem and a health problem. I honestly don’t understand why confirmation bias is not recognized as a prevalent issue by this new generation that’s so well read and advanced in information, when it comes to obesity. I can only hope people wake up at some point to the programming and get the help they need.

Hi I’m someone who was “skinny shamed” when I was younger and let me tell you that being pointed out in health class when your learning about eating disorders is not fun (not that I’ve ever had an eating disorder) or being grabbed at/ picked up is also not fun. It caused me to hate my appearance and I tried to eat more but not healthily and I still couldn’t gain weight. Now I am heavier than I was I’m about 130 lbs, I’m 5’6, and I’m 22. I go to the gym and I eat more food but mainly try to have a higher protein intake and obviously everything is about balance to much of anything is unhealthy. Honestly the amount of times people have asked me why I go to the gym, or why I eat the way that I do is laughable. Many people believe just because I am a healthy weight means that I shouldn’t take care of my body. I am someone who is genetically predisposed to high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and cancer. So yes I do take care of myself and that shouldn’t be an issue.

I'm a dietetics student and we talk about this kind of stuff a lot. Just like that plus size man said, there are absolutely things that can make it harder to lose weight but at the end of the day, it is up to you whether you eat that second hamburger. I also LOVE that you guys said that having a disability is even more of a reason to have a healthy diet. What you put into your body makes an enormous impact on your health so having a disability shouldn't make you exempt from having a healthy diet, that's ridiculous. Finally, set point theory is a valid point but someone needs to bring up the fact that NO ONE'S set point will be 300+ pounds. Some peoples' bodies may be more comfortable at a higher weight, but usually it's 10-20 lbs overweight, never obese. It's more so that YOU'RE (mentally) more comfortable being obese because your lifestyle makes it easier to eat 3500 calories a day than to try and eat healthily.
There are genetics and medications and illnesses that definitely make weight loss harder, but there is NOTHING that makes it IMPOSSIBLE

myself being overweight, i think it really depends on the situation of the matter. I myself have been diagnosed with binge eating disorder which makes weight loss very difficult. i have very easily recovered before and then i relapsed during covid. its a very difficult habit to break and its really heartbreaking to see yourself prove you can do it just to ruin it but its all about mindset. i currently am down from what i was and i will continue working. i guess its a very broad subject but i do believe that overall, it is a choice.

That part of “being skinny gets you bullied” tho. I’ll read comments on social media where NO ONE is bullying plus sized people to where people comment, “finally, a REAL body”, “yay! A real woman!” “Yeah because real men like women, not children” (saying thin women look like children due to smaller hips, not as curvy, and genuinely smaller breasts). If someone comments anything negative, oh boy. “Yeah you like prepubescent girls huh?” “Normal men like actual women with something to hang onto.” It’s gross. Same way with women’s underwear and clothing. Every single ad you see is plus sized women dancing around or in the ad in general. I seen one with all thin women (like size 4-6) and you wouldn’t believe the comments going crazyyyyy. “Oh you aren’t going to represent all bodies?” “Why show unreal bodies? You should advertise real women.” (Like us thin girls aren’t real or women or our bodies are alerted.) keep in mind, all I’ve seen as a woman that’s thin for several years is plus sized women in ads. Sometimes it may show multiple women and ONE thin woman (like a size 12, not thin, but average) but the other 5 women are plus sized. Absolutely no “thin” women.

I really put a lot of respect on the bigger men and women who actually change themselves because they realize it’s a choice and want to look and feel better. You can definitely be behind the ball as a kid when you really may not have the choice of what you eat and how much you work out, but as an adult there’s really not any excuses. Sure there’s the occasional things like not having the ability to work out conventionally, but even then, there are specialists out there that can help you. The only real reason I could see is you not having the money to workout or eat healthy but even at that, running/walking is free, and science proves over and over again that if your calorie in is less than your calorie out, you will loose weight, and eating generally better is just as expensive as eating out/ junk food. Eating really healthy is where is can get expensive.

Being fat is a choice but also not a choice. Some people are poor and can’t afford healthy food, some people have illness where they gain weight non-stop, some people have eating disorders, and some can even move to help themselves lose enough weight. But when you can walk, you have no illness that affects how you gain or lose weight and you’re not disabled in anyway- it becomes a choice because you realize how you look and you don’t really try to get out of the situation and you just continue your path.

i’ve always been skinny, and ive got comments abt it all my life. my metabolism is extremely fast and even when i eat 3 meals a day and eat lots of junk foods, i can barely gain weight. i think its different to be a skinny man rather than be a skinny woman. it is praised to be a skinny woman as a beauty standard, for a man you are considered weak, you don’t come off as a manly figure. and that’s just how our society made us think i guess. now sure maybe i could try to put on muscle and actually go on bulking diets and that’s my choice, but it’s all situational for everyone. i think it is a choice either way, and it can be changed. it just may be a quicker and easier process for some rather than others.

Fat man here 🙋‍♂, let me reassure you that being fat is a choice. I played football all the way to a rookie minicamp in the NFL and played in the UFL. Dealt with plenty of football injuries. After football I stopped working out and ate horrible. Granted I was dealing with depression, life after football... I knew I needed to get the right help to take care of my mentals. Years later I'm the heaviest I have ever been. Things changed when my son was born last year. I knew I needed to hold myself accountable and practice a healthier life style for my wife and son. I definitely want to be able to run around with my son without telling him I'm tired after barely moving. I want to be able to run and compete like I used to but It doesn't have to be football. I have also encountered high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Since I've been more active and more conscious I have been able to eliminate all of medications with an exception of 1. I need to lose a little bit more weight but I will get there so I can be off meds completely! Making life style changes is necessary and definitely beneficial. I have since then joined a mixed martial arts gym for cardio reasons and I must say it's a lot of fun. I can't personally comment on body shaming because it has never happened to me but I have been quite critical of myself and my weight. Definitely extend grace to yourself, You're not going to accomplish everything in one day. Focus on being consistent and have a plan. One step at a time. It's a marathon, not a race. It's worth it, trust me! 💪

From personal experience. I was almost 220 for a a whole year, and the previous 2 years a was between 200 and 220. Went abroad to work for a month in construction, didn't eat any sugar, and lost literally 25 lb. Now I'm 175-185. And it's actually sad to see these people fight so hard to justify the fact that they are not even 1% conscious about what they eat. And, I wasn't obese but still, I wasn't at all conscious of what I put into my body. Therefore my weight The fact is, either you THINK about what you put into your body or you don't THINK. But this is the world we live in today sadly, something so simple as to dedicate a few mere thoughts to what you put in your body and they sit here and make it seem like actual rocket science combined with quantum physics and their research is so complex and they have tried everything under the sun but nothing just works for them. And I literally used to think this exact way. Then I changed my perspective, that's all it took.

That girl that talked about only eating ice, lettuce and "salads" sounds like she either has hypothyroidism or the salad has ranch, sauce and oils which is a huge factor for gaining weight. Sauces and oil can completely destroy your diet by making you consume 2-5x more calories than you think you are consuming.
Adding more extra virgin olive oil is even a tip for bulking/gaining weight since it's a "easy" calorie addition.
And starving yourself is worse as your body creates body fat reserves for survival, which she mentions she would do following her coach's diet.

I've always been "skinny". Back when I was a kid I was called anorexic daily and constantly told to "eat more, eat a burger" etc. Now as a 26 year old women as my body hasn't changed in the past 14 years.. the comments seem more disgusting and/or jealous depending if it's coming from men or women. Women tell me random shit like, "wow your so small, i bet you have to double tie your apron to keep it from falling off you" or "you're a size XS!? Why are you so small, you need to gain weight".. and men (including my boss) have told me "what are you like 80lbs, you wouldn't understand what were talking about" or "you look like a child"... it's constantly demeaning and I'm made to feel like less of a women because I don't have the stereotypical womanly figure. I wouldn't say skinny shaming is WORSE. But it's just as bad. My coworkers have NEVER gone up to someone and said "wow you're so fat you should lose some weight!" but they've told me what I typed up above.. the hypocrisy is real. And i had a binge eating disorder (for 3ish years) when i was younger- ate maybe 3000-3500 calories a day and never gained any weight. So i don't know if the blanket statement is being skinny or fat a choice is valid. I think for MOST people- YES, for others- NO.

The girl in green is right about the set point model. It's why you may have friends who eat a ton and never seem to gain weight. There were two studies about it. One for extreme starvation and the other for extreme overeating and its psychological detriments for both. However, she used it as an excuse to eat whatever she wanted. You can deviate from your set point. But at the end of the day, being fat is a choice. And when being say caloric deficits and stuff, they are right.

Is it a choice? In a way yes. But it’s important to remember that it’s not as simple as "stop eating and you’ll lose weight". Some have eating disorders and a serious lack of willpower from trauma and or depression. Those things are mental. It takes time. As a society we need to be more compassionate. Stop shitting on people just because you don’t find them aesthetically appealing

a serious lack of will power sounds like a good excuse to blame your issues on somebody else. I myself am fat! 187lbs or 85kg at 5'8" tall. IT IS A CHOICE. I choose what I eat and I choose how much I exercise. Hell, it's so much of a choice that I've lost 13lbs in 2 weeks just by going gym every day and CHOOSING to not have breakfast, not have my snacks and just eat a healthy, chicken sandwich for lunch and something like chili con carne for dinner. All about 1500~ calories and I'm full every day. It's all choice my friends.

@@taelorjacobs2538me personally what I’ve been doing is eating within a window of about 10-12 hours everyday and eating lower calorie things. And cardio helps a TON. It’s better to do more cardio than lifting weights but if you are lifting you can do lighter weights and longer sets. Hope that helps!

That’s not even that bad at my heaviest I was 180lbs at like 5’0. Luckily I realized I was killing myself and decided to make a change. I’m now 140lbs
