Pretty sure not. We have similar rules here in Montreal but afaik they enforce them just in parks where there are lot of pedestrians and I hope the fines aren't as high. The day they are going to enforce that everywhere all cyclists will just avoid cycle paths. Like in the old days when we cycled between cars
10 Km/hr… that’s basically a walking pace. This even goes against the Alberta Governments mandate to increase physical activity to prevent chronic diseases.
This is nuts. I can easily reach 40 on flat. Please just don't complain after when we're on the streets instead of the bike paths. I see careless cyclists every day, and I wouldn't mind some enforcement, not just based on the rules but also the context (ticketing me for turning right at a red light when there's no one AND after a full stop isn't going to save anyone). And most importantly we need more enforcement against the cars. They're much deadlier than a speeding cyclist yet I *also* see so many of them EVERY DAY not using their signal nor checking their mirrors. If I'd rely only on road rules for safety I would be dead already.
@@garrybassi9338 is not always practical... Even in places where I'm going slightly above the car's speed limit I often get honked if I'm not on the dedicated bike path. E-Bike's are made to go a maximum 32km/hr according to Canada and Alberta laws, and that should be the limit. Reducing speed limit under 32 km/hr is difficult to do consistently for an e-bike and shortens their life span, by trying to match a lower consistent speed. Manual road bikes can easily go 40-50 km/hr and they can use other bikes to gauge their speed. 32 km/hr when everyone is abiding by path rules is not a dangerous speed. Typical speed on bike paths/shared trails in Edmonton is 30-35km/hr and Edmonton has fewer accidents on bike/shared paths than Calgary.
@@carlose6010 Everyone slows on bends that's natural. Everyone including road bikes that go 40-50km/hr slows for bends. That's not what's being discussed.

This is just another way for them to make money, as per photo radar. Since I dont have a spedometer on my bike, back to driving my car it is. So much for the bike paths they spent all that money on.
I'm not so sure the general speed is as important. But cyclists that refuse to use their brakes are absolute hazards. Was standing right near this bridge in East Village a week ago when one blew right by within 2 ft of my dog and another went by, "yelled the path was for bikes only" (in clearly a mixed use area) and then flipped us off. So I'm not sure you need to go under 20km/hr but you do have to use your brakes and give pedestrians space the same you'd expect a car to give you on the road. On another note, the reporter biking and filming himself definitely violates distracted driving laws lol. Those apply to bikes too.

Can we address actual issues in this country? Like the inherent lack of democracy in the workplace in this neoliberal economic system? Poverty and homelessness?
If you want democracy in the workplace, you should start a business and implement that. I'm sure hiring a bunch of strangers and giving them collective control over your financial investment won't end in disaster at all.
The funny part is, how do you enforce payment from cyclists that don't have a license or own a vehicle? See, if you get a traffic ticket with a motor vehicle and refuse to pay, you cannot renew your license or registration. And since you don't require a license or registration to ride a bike, how will the city collect their pound of flesh?
@@Stings2pee And $150 for within 10km of the speed limit, $400 for 10km or over. That's insane. It means cyclists will need to go 15 kmph at all times to be safe from hills. Of course Calgary is enforcing this law. The city is run by oil barons.
