A guy who survived the Argentinian collapse said make sure your house looks like every other house. If your house looks like a bunker people will assume there are lots of goodies inside and it will be a big target
Absolutely. Blending in can be just as crucial as having the right gear. Thanks for sharing that insight from Argentina-it’s a lesson we should all keep in mind!
Good vid. After 10 yrs PO and 4 yrs CO, I got to talk to lots of bad guys and work break-ins. One of the main ways of entering a house when folks are at work, etc, is the garage. Garages are easily breached and then, either A: door into house is just flat unlocked (many, many times!), or B: there's an attic entry in garage. Simply enter attic and drop down through the flimsy sheet rock in the adjacent room, usually kitchen. On a lighter note, I have the following sign on my off-grid cabin that I'm not at all the time (yet!). It states: Booby Traps: 1-highly illegal; 2-highly effective; 3-FAFO. So far, after a few years, we've not had even so much as a shovel or five-gallon bucket go missing. Can't say that, sadly, for others. Got some scroungers up here. Deputy sheriff isn't too impressed with the sign, but oh well...
Great point about the garage-those are often overlooked but can be real weak spots. Love the sign idea, too! Sounds like it’s doing its job, and hey, sometimes a little humor keeps things in check. Stay safe out there!
Hi Dustin! Hope you are doing well!! 🙂 Up late, so I'm going to watch this video now. Looks informative and educational as always! We're supposed to get a few inches of snow ❄️ on Sunday! ☃️ Then arctic blast; from Siberia I think.🤔 We shall see. Thanks a bunch and have a great weekend!! 🌺
Hey Mary, great to see you! Hope you made it through that snowfall okay How much did you end up getting? We've gotten 11 inches since Friday. I was -4 this morning. brrrr.
@reliableprepper Hi there Dustin! Just saw your note. We only got a dusting of snow ❄️ Not much at all. But temperatures are really cold! Single digits for the next few nights! Brrrr! ☃️ Hope you're keeping warm and safe!! Have a great evening!! 🌹 Talk to you soon!! 🙂
Hi. I appreciate this page of yours very much. I am old, and live in an apartment building full of old and disabled people in a very small town in Montana. Both doors to the outside have combination locks, but the lower floor has windows at half height, like a daylight basement. Being tenants, we have little freedom to make many changes. I have plenty of stocks put aside (thanks to you), but I wonder what other advice you might offer for people in my circumstances.
Hi Luella, thank you for your kind words-it means a lot! Living in a shared space can definitely be tricky, but it sounds like you’ve done a fantastic job prepping so far. Since changes to the building are limited, maybe focus on adding portable, temporary security measures, like window security film or even wooden dowels in the tracks of sliding windows for extra strength. It’s also a great idea to work with neighbors to create a mutual aid plan for emergencies, so everyone knows how to support each other. Let me know if you’d like more specific ideas!
@@reliableprepper Wife and I are prepped and ready. Have implemented many of the hacks you mentioned in vids. Many "Freedom Seeds" and plenty of planters. Fuel, nutrients, water, meds, all tidied up. God willing we meet one day soon. You are one of the good people.
This is the first video that I have seen in awhile my friend. I don't believe I'm getting notifications. But as usual another great video. I have steel L brackers 1/4 inich thick with a 2x4 for my doors. And a big mean dog. So hows the family?
@reliableprepper So far, we are. How about you and yours. For all I know, you live in the south. Lol. I pray you guys are warm. I'm going to keep preparing for my family.
Thank you, brother, for sharing great video as usual and you had some really good information in this one and it is information that is useful. And it is easy to forget those things. And this year i need to go over my own strategies and i might need to improve them but it is hard when you have a lot of other things to do but it is necessary. One thing especially when you live in an apartment especially when it comes to you and your family´s security and to live in an apartment you have most of the time one way in and one way out. So, have a fire extinguisher are necessary a fire would be devastating in an apartment and also have a fire blanket or a wool blanket you can use for that purpose. I have shared this one out as usual and a 👍
Thanks for always sharing and for the thoughtful comment! You’re absolutely right-apartment living has its own challenges, and fire safety is so important. Sounds like you’ve got a solid plan, but improving strategies is always worth the time. Keep up the great work, brother!
Cameras on battery backup might be good if the electricity is intermittent. Someone outside watching the property may be necessary depending on the situation and if there is enough manpower
You’re absolutely right-battery backup for cameras is a must if the power situation is unstable. And if you can spare the manpower, having someone keeping watch outside can be a huge help. Great tip!
Negativity comes from various perspectives. In today's world there should be no limit to what one can do to ensure any future. YT limits what one can publish. Anything that could be construed as life threatening could cause censure of the channel. While 'pungi stake pits' or spike strips are very effective, they can be life threatening. We know what they are but do not need to discuss them in this environment. The overall reporting in this session is top notch and educational. Thanks, Mr D, from Idaho. Stay positive.
I appreciate that Gary. You are very correct about about YT. I've always done my best to avoid trouble on here. i've been looking into it, I think I could get a little more gritty in the members section. Even more so on Rumble. This coming week I'm putting out quite a bit of member content. I always have some thing i'm going to do you Top Dawgs
There is the issue of "reasonable force" which can vary according to ethics, law and circumstances. [And across jurisdictions]. For example, outside the USA, there may not be such thing as a 2nd Amendment. And even in the US, legal and lay opinions about what the 2nd actually means is open to interpretation. "Self-defense" can be at the personal, community, national or international level. For example, if an enemy or perceived enemy of the USA vastly increased its military capability relative to the USA, would you feel more of less secure. The logical answer is "yes". So you would want the USA to increase its defensive capability. It makes sense, right? But that usually ends up in an arms race and is no long term solution. Increased capability can be interpreted as bad intentions. So international tensions rise. The same is true at the local level. If everyone has guns, the overall sense of security goes DOWN. But few people want to remain unarmed in a society that has so many guns. These are example's of Hardin's "Tragedy Of The Commons". What might be good for individuals might turn out to be very bad for society. The harsh fact is that unless you live on a planet alone, you somehow have to get on with others. So freedoms and rights have to be structured in such a way as to be balanced, and not neglect or favor one group or individual over another. Rightly or wrongly, a heavily armed civilian population can turn the population into thinking they are in a siege or warfare scenario, which feeds on itself and escalates.
But when the people were locked in there safe room. You need to talk about what to do if the bad guys set their house on fire. A safe room I think is a good for normal society but not so much in an SHTF society.
Great point! In a serious SHTF event, a safe room can become a trap if you don’t have a plan for worst-case scenarios like fire. Always good to think a few steps ahead.
It's snowed about 4 inches in the past couple hours. This weekend will be pretty brutal for alot of us. Looks like you might have gotten kinda lucky up in your neck of the woods?

We must be proactive and not reactive, plan ahead and don't say or think it won't happen in my neighborhood.
Exactly-being proactive is always better than trying to scramble last minute. Thanks for emphasizing that point!
