ive been having nightmares of something like that when i was 3 of the toilet flooding with nothing in it and flooding the house it it always scared me.
I am remembering something kind of like this happened and I think it was back in 2008 when me and my family used to live in these ghetto apartments that were kind of rundown and not on a very good side of town and it was one day when me, my parents and my brothers were just sitting down in our small living room watching TV and then all of a sudden we started hearing the toilet in the bathroom that was down the hall making a loud bubbling sound because while living there we had a lot of problems with the sewage system backing up and the waterlines and I remember getting so freaked out by the toilet doing that and what was happening and I'm surprised that my younger brothers weren't as scared as I was, the whole toilet bowl filled up with nasty dark brown water but thank goodness it didn't flood the bathroom, but it kind of went into the bathtub and I also remember later on that same day, two plumbers came to unclog all of the backed up drains that were outside the apartments and they found out and told us it was tree roots that got wrapped around the pipes and it was causing all of the toilets in this area to clog up and overflow, and they worked on it for awhile till the sewage drains were unclogged, and I'm never going to forget that day, the minute I heard that toilet, I literally did not want to go in the bathroom after that or walk past it, that's how terrified I was, and even after the plumbing and everything was fixed, whenever I had to go to the restroom, I didn't flush because I was afraid that if I did, it might make that gurgling bubbly noise again, and I never told anyone but when we still lived in this apartment, I would sometimes have very creepy nightmares of being in that bathroom and the toilet flushing by itself and splashing disgusting poop water everywhere and gurgling really loud and the rest of the apartment would be flooded in the dream and I would wake up scared So that's my story of the backed up bubbling toilet. And ever since this happened it really made me have the biggest fear of toilets and the strange noises they make when they are clogged

i never understand why in the US you have this weird setup of the two caps, am guessing that its some sort or ubend/trap but it seems to cause more issues than its worth, we in the UK don't have anything that like, ours goes straight out to the sewer line

NOW you have the stink at the sink! That's why code started calling for a whole house trap, which also kept sewer rats from crawling back into homes.

What's the point of the trap in the sewer line? It seems most of the time it's the cause of the clogs.
It prevents gas, rodents, bugs from getting into the house and stops the clog from getting deeper. Makes my lob a bit easier sometimes 😉

The whole house trap is a leftover in the code from when each fixture did not have its own trap. Most of these are older buildings.
