    As a plumbing contractor I would never flood out a finished basement like that just for the fun of it. Sewer water gets under the ceramic tile via grooved trowels and in about 4 months the smell of mold and mildew will be brutal. I have been called back for a sewer smell and when all plumbing was in good order I got permission to pop a tile off and it was black with mold. The insurance company came back and replaced all ceramic tiles.

      @ Kimberly McCreary. Yeah it often annoys me when I have to do work and people don’t move their stuff that is blatantly in my way. So what do I do? I move it. I instantly saw the dehumidifier sitting right there knowing that it was going to be a geyser of poo water spraying all over it. I was kind of shocked that this drain clearing guy didn’t move it. So if the homeowner doesn’t do it you should do it. This is my first video that I’ve watchedOf his so I’m taken back by the lack of respect for the house. But I don’t know if there was no other way to enter the main drain maybe by an outside clean out? I don’t know.

    So I’m guessing that there was no outside clean out? And left you no choice but to knock off the clean out cap inside the house. Otherwise why would you flood the basement with poo water? Also it seems like you should have moved the dehumidifier. I know it’s annoying when homeowners don’t move their stuff but they don’t know what’s about to happen. So when I’m faced Customers crap in my way, I move it. And if I had to do that in a house I would call for large shop vac’s and set up a water perimeter to contain it and then suck it all out with the vacs. But hey that’s just me. But if I made that mess all over the floor I would feel obligated to clean it up no question.

    In UK our access points are outside in a small chamber, which if it overflows at least only damages the yard and can be washed away back into the chamber using water and disinfectant after clearing the blockage. Can't understand why in US (or only NY??) you have this system where the basement (or wherever these points are in the building) have to get flooded with sewage just to access the blockage. Can't they be outside ? Discharging any amount of sewage within any part of the building with no way to avoid it, seems unnecessary. Would be interested to know why systems are designed this way.

    • @NYDRAINS
      @NYDRAINS  2 місяці тому

      The location of a sewer cleanout depends on the climate and style of the home, but it's usually located along the lateral sewer line that connects the home to the main public sewer system. There are some homes that do have the access points outside 😉

    Fun to watch these videos but he should've moved the dehumidifier. If he didn't want to he should've called the homeowner and asked him to move it. Have the courtesy to communicate with the client. He may not of had a clue that sh!t water was going to explode out of the trap there.

      The homeowner was warned of such a potential disaster and to remove all items from that area before i started.. For whatever reason, they left the dehumidifier and anything else 🤷‍♂️

    I understand the purpose of the trap to block gases from the mains but this seems like a problem that really doesn’t need to happen

    • @cheeeseinacann

      Especially since all the fixtures are already trapped

    • @5Dale65

      Here the blockage was actually downstream the main trap

      @stevenolsen6360 Рік тому

      the trap was designed to stop rats,- as I understand it, vent pipes deal with the gases

    Why didnt u pull the toilet upstairs and drop the snake in up there to reduce the flooding of sewage?

    • @NYDRAINS
      @NYDRAINS  2 роки тому

      The clog was outside towards the street, the snake would never jump the trap from so far away.
