Allen Collins in all red shredding, he created that solo while still in high school. Ronnie Van Zant the vocalist, Steve Gaines guitarist in blue and white, and his sister Cassie who was one of the 3 female backup vocals, were killed in the crash in 1977. The bands road manager Dean Kilpatrick and both pilots died as well. Thanks for the reaction ✌️
This is my favorite live performance of Free Bird. The camera focused more on the band here, vs. the girls in Oakland. The back story on this performance was the Rolling Stones were following LS. The Stones was promoting a new album called Hot Licks that featured a tongue in the graphic so Mick had a tongue shaped catwalk added to the stage and he then ordered the other bands to not use it. Well, when the solo started on Free Bird, Ronnie got his 3 man guitar army out on the tongue for the rest of the song. Mick was livid! Because of the tongue and because LS whipped the crowd into a frenzy and the Stones refused to come out for hours, waiting for the crowd to settle down.
The tall guitarist in red killing the solo is Allen Collins. The bearded guitarist with the shortest hair is Steve Gaines. His sister is one of the Honkettes, the backup singers. Both he and his sister and the lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, were killed in a plane crash on 10/20/1977, along with both pilots and stage manager of the band's.
I understand the sentiment, but I disagree. The Oakland performance video is better quality, they actually include Billy Powel and his piano solo, not ignore him while panning over the other members while he plays, and the crowd, including the girls the camera guy seemed infatuated with are more into the entire song. I think that Oakland crowd were true Skynyrd fans while the crowd in this video was treating them like an unwanted opener for the Rolling Stones!
I went to a comedy club where Jon Lovitz from Saturday Night Live was appearing. He actually is an accomplished piano player, so while he was warming up he asked if anyone had any requests. Being a smarta$$ I yelled “Free Bird”, so he started picking it out on his piano. Someone else yelled another song name and he says “be quiet, I’m playing Free Bird” and he proceeded to play the beginning on piano and sing it to me. I remind my wife often that Jon Lovitz serenaded me with “Free Bird”….so whenever I hear it I remember that night.
@@paulmellette8925Which is hilarious because the 2 times I’ve seen the Stones the openers were actually better. 😂 It shocked me because I’d loved them for decades & expected them to be much better than they were live. I saw Keith Richards at a solo show & that was amazing. He didn’t have any “VIP” seating, insisting that paying fans get the good seats & didn’t have any crazy upcharged prices. I stood in line for maybe a couple hours before ticket outlets opened & got 5th row center stage. Good times.
The lead singer, and two other members died in a plane crash when the band 's private charter went down. I think the manager bought it in that accident too. Everyone was injured though. Tragic. You need to watch the live recording of this song from Oakland. It was the best performance of Freebird, which they always played last in the set because the vocalist had blown chops by the end of the set and this song was least demanding, and it was the last recording of them playing in the original lineup before the plane crash. Also, that solo is actually 3 guitars playing in such good synchronization that it sounds like a single guitar.
I wasn't afan, and,I was still horrified. After they regrouped, and, played the concert that the band had been heading to,they let in free the people who still had their old tickets.
Ronnie Van Zant lead singer and general of the band, Steve Gains guitar in blue jeans vest, Cassie Gains Steves sister and back up singer, Dean Kilpatrick tour manager and the two pilots died, Everyone else severe in juries except Artimus the drummer walk away from it.
One of the injured band members who couldn’t move due to debris on him said Steve Gains (I believe) came over and got everything off the top of him. When he told that story at the hospital or wherever he was told no way because Steve died instantly.
@@Tncowboy22 No worries, When I first started watching it I thought it was the Oakland one. But taped from a different person. I was noticing somethings different. And thought wait a minute. LOL
I had the great pleasure of Lynard Skynard being my first concert on August 25th, 1977, at the Big A in Anaheim, California. The lineup was TRex, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Ted Nugent, and Lynard Skynard. To this day it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.

I’m 51 and when I was about 19, 3 of our friend were killed in a car accident and they played this song at the funeral home and while they were being buried. Now every time I hear this song I think of them😢
Oct 1977 plane crashed killing Ronnie (lead singer), Steve Gaines (guitarist), Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister and backup singer), road manager and 2 pilots. 20 others survived but had serious injuries.
Artimus Pyle is still alive. He was technically their third drummer, but he was the best drummer they had and he was with them when they really started to hit it big, and he was with them when the plane crashed in '77.
Gary got fat, lazy (nothing wrong with that) but he was very rude. About 20 years ago, was backstage with him. He was an egotistical meanie. Treated the crew so bad. I helped him carry his guitar to the stage, and on the walk, I asked him who he was. LOL. He got pissed. I laughed at his ego. Then I went and gave the crew all of his stash. True story. Small show just outside of Dallas. ☮️❤️🎼

Krizz, I hope you have recognized what true fans of the 60's & 70's you have here and truly just how knowledgeable they are of those bands they dearly love. Man, it was a great time to grow up!
The Guitar player in the red is Allen Collins. The one in the white is Steve Gaines. The one in the Black shirt is Gary Rossington. And the bird sounds are played on a guitar.
Freebird was one of the biggest hits of the mid 70s, and got all kinds of air play on radio (although usually a shortened version). Lynyrd Skynyrd was HUGE until the fateful day when their plane went down. And THAT made this song even more popular!
I love this song. I blasted it when I was discharged from the Navy. I was leaving NAS Lenoore in Cali and driving back cross country. I love how you are reacting to the music I grew up on. It was a special time in history. RIP Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and the others who perished. People are mellow cuz we were all stoned and then they drop the bomb.
Krizz I'm 54 and I have loved hip hop since the 80s. My first album was RUN DMC. I love your art. I was introduced to you through Tech and can say you have been one of my favorites on Strange Music. I just have to say I'm digging you doing the rock classics. It's been fun. Your love for art is infectious.
Bro. Weed was just about legal back then. 15 to 20 dollar ounces. 150 dollar pounds. 300 dollars for a kilo, 35 ounces. Yeah i am that old. Now 69 year old Black man
They were a band that practiced a shit ton and when they went to record the producer said they had even the leads written down and played note for note.
And Krizz you're awesome love your energy. Since you liked this. 4 other Lynyrd Skynard must hear classics That Smell, Tuesdays Gone, Simpe Man, Saturday Night Special.
Leon Wilkinson was the bass player aka The Mad Hatter. He always wore different hats on and off stage. This particular one was an English Bobby(police officer)hat. Leon survived the plane crash and played with the band after their reunion in 87. Leon suffered from addiction demons that were caused by his injuries from the crash and sadly passed away in 2001.
Fun random thing. There is a picture of Dusty Hill from ZZ Top sitting front row at a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert holding up a sign that says Play FREE BIRD.
Yeah, I think there were a bunch of celebs at this show, as it was part of a music festival (the Rolling Stones headlined). Paul McCartney was there.. Artimus Pyle (Skynyrd drummer) talks about sitting with Paul and his wife on top of the scaffolding. I think I also read that Jack Nicholson invited himself into a backstage joint-smoking session with some of the boys in the band.
My high school english teacher in 11th grade was married to a cousin of Ronnie's (Lead Singer) He told me that the band used to come over to their (my teacher and his wife's) house and smoke crack in the living room while he and his wife would hang out in the kitchen until they were done partaking. Then his wofe would go hang out with them until they were about half sober and then they would disappear. He was also at one time a bodyguard/security detail for Cher.
The group originally formed as My Backyard and comprised Ronnie Van Zant (vocals), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass), and Bob Burns (drums).
The song was about Allen Collins ( man shredding solo at end) His girlfriend asked him would you remember me if I leave here tomorrow. That was in high school. All Skynyrd songs are about everyday life lessons.
The ones who weren't killed they were badly injured, except for the drummer. He had broken ribs but he ran through the woods till he saw a farm house and the farmer came out with a rifle and ordered him to stop but dude kept coming and bang he shot him. Artemis spun around and went down. The farmer felt terrible when he realized their plane crashed and they needed help. He got them ambulances. He got hit in the shoulder but survived. Ronnie the (lead) was always saying I won't live to see 30 yrs old and he was right, he died 80 days before his 30th birthday. I was 17 back then and I remember hearing the news the day they crashed. RIP🙏

Saw them when they reassembled a. and as a tribute they asked us to sing freebird while they played. 😢 We didnt miss a beat, note or pause. Had to be the sadest moment ive had at a concert(tearing as i write) ever. The bics were waving back and forth which caused the temp to rise by alot before it was over and ill never forget it for as long as i live. Thanks
Just about everyone was GONE at concerts during the 70's and 80's 😂 When I went to them back then all i had to do was breath the air and the fun began 😂😂 Great reaction i loved the look on your face when you paused the clip, hilarious ❤
I saw this show the winter before in St. Louis. The person I was dating at the time knew someone and got us 2nd row center tickets. The Outlaws opened. Great show.
Hey Krizz! Steve Gaines is the lead guitarist and his sister Cassie is a backup singer. They both passed in the plane crash sadly. I had just bought their album the night before the crash. I was 16. They were our religion up here in the Appalachian mountains. Lol.
1 of 3 songs I played many times while part-toming as a dj in a rock-and-roll in Bamberg, Germany ('87) for short timers headed back to the land of round door knobs!🎶🎸
Watch the series Muscle Shoals about the studio I’m Alabama that Leonard Skynard recorded in as well as other classic acts. You learn a lot about what happened when they recorded.
Allen Collins wrote and played the Free Bird solo, great writing in their music to have 4 guitars, Ronnies little brother Johnny, a few years after the plane crash got with the guys that survived, left his band "Van Zant" and has stood in his brother's place in Skynyrd for the last 40yrs
Still so bittersweet to watch this song at concert with his brother Johnny now singing it with Ronnie up on the big screen singing it...and Ronnies hat sitting high up on the mic stand!!...Thanks to Johnny and Ricky for keeping this music alive over the decades....definately NOT a tribute band!!!!!
I've only been a subscriber for a few months. Love your stuff and have commented. I'm going on a limb here. I am curious, and I have two questions. How much weed did you smoke growing up? What was the purpose of pointing out those people that were probably stoned in the concert... rather often? You got your guitar question answered...Allen Collins. Oh, we all love air guitar too. 😊
Krizz Kaliko you chose the 2nd best live version of the live versions on You Tub, but thank you for bringing back my memories The song came out in 1974 while i was a 8th grader, Saw the band at what i considered the most dope performance at Day on the Green July 4th weekend. The band had 60,000 plus young people Rocking the HOUSE and they were not even the headliners for that show Peter Frampton was with his Frampton come alive tour. About 1/3 of the crowd left after Skynard. Yes we lost Ronnie about 3 months later we lost the lead sing Ronnie Vanandt Guitarist Steve Gains and the lead back up sing Cassie Gains Steve's big sister. So
That would be Allen Collins, killing it You should check this band out pre 77 before the crash. There is a cover band with the lead singers brother that call themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd. RVZ was a lyrical genus and a master story teller. They paid their dues doing bar tours and got a gig opening for the Who and like they say the rest is history. Remember pre 77 there are five albums and a double live done at the Fox theater in Atlanta Jun 7,8,9 1976. This show Knebworth was in Aug 1976. They were at the top of their game then.
This was an anthem during our days, the full history of the song had yet to be written as months later Freebird would make their final flight! The song as many of the day, started slow and built up all the way to the end. Several members lead singer Ronnie van zant Chrissy and Steve Gaines plus other supporting staff died in a plane crash, in October 1977
They must have pumped the bong fog into the crowd! That’s the most subdued and layed back crowd I’ve ever seen! I’ve literally been to almost 100 concerts. This is crazy laid back(except maybe a few). I would’ve been losing my mind if I was there.
Love you and this video 🤘! Keep this thing rolling! Everyone really should look Lynyrd Skynyrd up! They are absolutely incredible!!! ... for their short time here with us... 🙏 Thank you for your take on them and what you do! Kali Baby🤘
Pink Floyd-Comfily Numb-Pulse consort. Great guitar solo. One of the band members got the idea for this song when his girl friend ask him that question "If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me"
LOVE Your channel and definitely subbing! Thank you for bringing this music to the younger generation! This was recorded live without auto tuners, just supremely talented musicians. Looking forward to seeing more content! On a side note, the guitarist Steve Gaines, was so talented that Ronnie Van Zant had said that Gaines was going to leave Lynryd Skynryd in his wake
December 28, 1998 I saw Skynyrd at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Not with Ronnie, of course, but his brother Johnnie. Charlie Daniels Band opened for them. I remember standing in the lobby waiting to get in and people were yelling "Freebird", but my buddies and I were yelling "Reverb". You should look up the relationship between the band and the Fox Theater. Ronnie saved it from demolition and raised a ton of money including some of his own to restore it.
@KrizzKalikoOfficial Google Mayor Maynard Jackson of Atlanta and Lynyrd Skynyrd for pics of them presenting additional $25k checks and gold records. Maynard made them citizens of Atlanta. LS had Allman Brothers also do benefit to save the Fox Theatre.
I know for YEARS you couldn't go into a southern bar without SOMEBODY hollerin' from the back of the bar, "FREEBIRD!!!" These words are written on their memorial in Magnolia, Mississippi. The first line is so iconic ..... If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me! Those words are at the top of the first marble marker!!!!!!!!! It's beautiful and only 1/4 mile from the actual crash! Glad I got to see them in concert before the plane crash! Yes, the lead singer and 2 (that I know of) other bandmates, brother and sister, passed away in the accident too! Just for kicks and giggles, you need to listen to Wildwood Weed by Jim Stafford. It's hilarious!!!! The video from Oakland was wild and extremely long!!!!!
They weren`t even headliners yet! at this concert they were the worm up band for the rolling stones! They were told not to walk out onto the tongue but they did anyway and Mick Jagger was pissed! as he was screaming at them from the sides of the stage. Haha
I was a bartender when that plane crashed. Several of their songs were played on the Jukebox so many times I hope I never hear them again. This is one, Gimme 3 Steps, What's Your Name Little Girl, Oooh That Smell and Free Bird. I can bear Sweet Home Alabama. Theses songs each played about 10 times every night. I Feel Love by Donna Summer. I'm sure there are songs you hope don't get requested. I can change that channel in 3 notes.
My brother told me a story of how he was in a bar one night, and the cover band was like, "What song is it you wanna hear?" My brother shouts out, "SURE AS HELL AIN'T FREEBIRD!!!" *melee*
My mom was a bartender in the 80s when i was a child. I pretty much grew up in bars. Every song you named was on HEAVY rotation on the juke boxes all the time and have stuck with me ever since. Still to this day if i go to a bar where i live, i will hear 3 or 4 of those songs while im there at least once.
I have to check someone those other ones out. I worked in the strip club before and I felt like that about certain songs that would come on all of the time as well.
hey Krizz, @ScottLovenberg is correct, the Lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, a backup singer, Cassie Gaines, and “the third lead” guitar, and sometimes singer, Steve Gaines. three key members, one of them, Ronnie, the founding member of the band; as well as the pilot; and a band mgr., all perished in the plane crash that day. Someone may have already said that, but I scrolled a little, and was unable to find it if they did. apparently because someone didn’t check the fuel level, and the plane ran out of gas. that’s what really hit hard; a totally preventable crash. RIP… to the whole band! great vid selection, and commentary @Krizz!!
You had me at music and comedy. Music was my first true love and has always been faithful from my happiest moments to my darkest days. Comedy is a much needed respite in these day's I don’t know you, I have little experience in the hip hop community. I am learning. Weed, herb, devils lettuce yeah and it’s therapeutic Yeah they are baked back in the day when simple possession was a felony. There are probably 20,000 plus violators in that concert and I am probably low balling it. Great reaction!
All of the original group has passed away. I personally went to one of the last concerts Ronnie Van Zant the singer passed in a small plane crash shortly after. His brother Johnny joined to fill in and still does the vocals as the group remains.
@@JaquelineGoodspeed he actually joined ten years after the band formed. I first seen them in a two story beach bar in Jacksonville Beach. I knew then they were special. Ronnie was a perfectionist.
I got to see them 2x before the plane crash of Oct 77 in where Ronnie VanZant lead singer Steve Gaines guitar his sister back up singer Cassie and their manager Fitzpatrick along with the 2 pilots died I still got to see them about 8 more times after

This the 1976 version from the Knebworh festival. Great performance , but you should check the Oakland collusium version from 1977 . It is a more epic performance . Also in HDTV hi-res.
The best version of this song is the one on July 2, 1977 I think this one is when they opened for The Rolling Stones and they was told not to go out on the tongue that sticks out from the stage but the lead singer Ronnie is not going to be told what to do and if you noticed they walk out on it during the long solo at the end
FANTABULOUS SONG. I love the BANG BANG ON THE DRUMS during the Fantastic guitar solo. We had big BOSE speakers & we were ALWAYS Improving our stereos. Negative on unalive.
Krizz, I first ran into you with BP and thought you had some great insight on the vids y'all watched. This is the first one I've seen of you on your own. Let's just say you got a new sub my brother. Side note: When I was in high school, we would build a huge bonfire in the middle of a field, circle it with trucks and cars and pull the speakers and jam the night away. I don't know about you and your crowd, but we drank what we could get, MD 20/20, Boonsfarm, Budweiser, yes the devil's lettuce, Jack D, all the faves. But songs like this you see what you saw at the beginning. People just huggin up on their ol' ladies, layin back in the truck beds, walkin around the bonfire drinkin and talkin. But at a certain point, you knew things were going to change, people sat up, talking turned into huge smiles, the air guitars (and drums) came out and the crowd came alive for that solo. Just like you saw there. Great job on the reaction bruh, I hope you keep growin and doing great things. Hello from Waco, Tx and yes, you would have been most welcome at the bonfires. Stay up.
They dedicated this song to Duane Allman (guitarist of the Allman Brothers band) when he died in a motorcycle wreck. He had to leave. He couldn’t stay. He died and became a free bird.

Hopefully, good memories. God bless. It’s a beautiful sendoff song.
Oct 1977 plane crashed killing Ronnie (lead singer), Steve Gaines (guitarist), Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister and backup singer), road manager and 2 pilots. 20 others survived but had serious injuries.
Yea that rivals the day the music died. The worst rivalry.
Saddest day .
Oh wow. Yeah, I heard something about a plane crash. That’s right.
I always yell out - Freebiridddddd!!!
Not about suicide, just about being a free range rocker
Lynard Skynyrd was so awesome! All of them are gone now. RIP! Love your reaction!
Artimus Pyle is still alive. He was technically their third drummer, but he was the best drummer they had and he was with them when they really started to hit it big, and he was with them when the plane crashed in '77.
Gary Rossington the last original member left us March 5 2023 he the one who plays the guitar at the start of freebird 😢
Artimus Pyle (drummer) is still with us.

@@dopeghost96 I DEFINITELY FUCK WITH THIS COMMENT!!! I agree TOTALLY!!!!!
Thank you for showcasing Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Free Bird. That song is special.
Freebird was one of the biggest hits of the mid 70s, and got all kinds of air play on radio (although usually a shortened version). Lynyrd Skynyrd was HUGE until the fateful day when their plane went down. And THAT made this song even more popular!
Yeah, tragic story about these guys from what I’ve heard in the comments. Such a beautiful song.
Skynyrd is in England here you want to see the crowd crazy check out the video from Oakland 1977
Yeah, much love to all of the guys from this band. Thank you for your comment.
Me too My first hip hop/ rap was LL’s Radio and RUN DMC raising hell
Thank you so much for being a longtime fan. Yeah I’m having a ball doing this.
Bro. Weed was just about legal back then. 15 to 20 dollar ounces. 150 dollar pounds. 300 dollars for a kilo, 35 ounces. Yeah i am that old. Now 69 year old Black man
"The Devil's Lettuce"????? Krizz...that's hysterical!! I love it!!🤘🤘🎵🎼🎶
Oh yeah, lol
So many musicians gone too soon, and here we are 50 yrs later still listening.
Thank you Krizz, great youtube channel.
Thank you for checking my channel out. Let’s keep going.
They were a band that practiced a shit ton and when they went to record the producer said they had even the leads written down and played note for note.
Wow, what history behind this band. It’s beautiful.
Skynyrd used 3 lead guitars Allen Collins , Gary Rossington, Steve Gaines, Ed King all of them were elite guitarists
These guys were boss on the guitar
Fun random thing. There is a picture of Dusty Hill from ZZ Top sitting front row at a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert holding up a sign that says Play FREE BIRD.
Is that where that joke came from?
And ironically ZZ Top is just winding down their Sharp dressed Simple Man concert tour...
Guitars are incredible but that drumming is a different level as well. One of the greatest songs ever made.
The group originally formed as My Backyard and comprised Ronnie Van Zant (vocals), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass), and Bob Burns (drums).
NOW TRY THE LIVE OAKLAND VIDEO AROUND THE SAME TIME
“Gone.” LOL! Thanks for the fun reaction with some laughs tossed in.
I grew up in the 70's, and this is one of my all time favorite songs of my life!
Mine too!
It’s absolutely beautiful
The song was about Allen Collins ( man shredding solo at end) His girlfriend asked him would you remember me if I leave here tomorrow. That was in high school. All Skynyrd songs are about everyday life lessons.
Yeah, it’s very relatable.
RIP🙏
Have to say I've turned 63 this past September and while I have always loved it and been moved by this song there is a longing and sadness to it....
I would for y’all to listen to The Ballad of Curtis Lowe. Nobody remembers it and it’s hands down a favorite right after Simple Man
The other guitar player is Allen Collins
Thanks for the info. Bless.
No autotune. No vulgar language. Best solos ever.
What makes a word vulgar?
@@ThePelagicHermit referring to a woman as a b... , a man a d, describing sexual acts. There were songs in my day that alluded to sexuality, but it was more innuendo that the perverse language. I don't actually care for when blacks refer to one another with the n word. But, I m a Christian and that bible says that you will be judged by every word you speak. There are 300 scriptures that talk about the importance of your words.
@@robinbeerman4726 thank you. I am not a Christian and have often wondered where this concept comes from. These words you reference did not exist in Biblical times. How is it decided what sounds are newly vulgar? For example there is no problem with smoking a fag of you are in London but in NY that is "vulgar".
And if you believe you will be judged on what you say why is what you hear a concern?
@@robinbeerman4726thank you, I am not a Christian and often wondered where the concept of sounds being wrong comes from.
Why is hearing vulgarity an issue if you are not speaking these words?
There are words that have become vulgar. Like the B and D you refer to. Both were considered non-vulgar until the last few decades. Does the church provide a list of words that have become vulgar?
@@ThePelagicHermit it have always been important. You can actually kill a person's spirit by the words you speak. If you read the bible, you would know that the world was created by speaking it into being. Jesus is THEVWORD That became flesh and walked among us. Hasn't anyone ever hurt you to your core by the words they spoke out of their mouths. It is written life and death is in the power of the tongue. How do you lie? By speaking falsehoods. I have never known anyone who disagreed that the words you speak are important. The world judges you on your intelligence by your Grammer and eloquence of how you speak. I say this not to offend you but as an older adult with some wisdom.
I tend to just lurk, I try to always thank the new reactors I start following though. I thank you for the content you do as it helps me not always feel so alone. I want you to know you matter in this world and I am glad for you.
Yeah, this was awesome. Thank you.
I saw this show the winter before in St. Louis. The person I was dating at the time knew someone and got us 2nd row center tickets. The Outlaws opened. Great show.
Sounds awesome. Thank you so much.
This was my dads favorite song. He absolutely was a free bird in everything he did. I got a tat of a eagke feather, after he passed, in his memory.
That Crowd 💥💥💥
This is when music was what it was meant to be
😍
Oh yeah, and absolute classic
Hey Krizz! Steve Gaines is the lead guitarist and his sister Cassie is a backup singer. They both passed in the plane crash sadly. I had just bought their album the night before the crash. I was 16. They were our religion up here in the Appalachian mountains. Lol.
Awesome to have those memories to hold onto, right? Thank you for your comment.
SAW that and it was interesting and educational. 😂😂
Right on, thank you
The way dude stomps his foot during that solo lets you know how much emotion is flowing through his fingers man 🤘🏿🔥🤘🏿
Allen Collins wrote and played the Free Bird solo, great writing in their music to have 4 guitars, Ronnies little brother Johnny, a few years after the plane crash got with the guys that survived, left his band "Van Zant" and has stood in his brother's place in Skynyrd for the last 40yrs
Wrong band, his brother was actually from 38 Special.
@@stoned-soup Wrong Brother...Donnie was 38 Special - Johnny was Van Zant - And of course Ronnie Skynyrd
The Oakland concert performance of this song would have blown you away. 🔥
There is so much history behind this band, I’m learning
Love your channel! Keep up the good work!
That song is GOLD, legendary, that band was famous when I was in high school
They must have pumped the bong fog into the crowd! That’s the most subdued and layed back crowd I’ve ever seen! I’ve literally been to almost 100 concerts. This is crazy laid back(except maybe a few). I would’ve been losing my mind if I was there.
Love you and this video 🤘! Keep this thing rolling! Everyone really should look Lynyrd Skynyrd up! They are absolutely incredible!!! ... for their short time here with us... 🙏 Thank you for your take on them and what you do! Kali Baby🤘
You are cracking me up watching them and saying "gone!" It's so true and funny. Great fun reaction!!
Allen Collins, playing lead solo, he was amazing, wrote some of the songs with Ronnie, made alot of the riffs
You are looking at a Classic straight in the face. I am a southern lady who loves this
You kept talking about the guitar but you didn’t mention the piano and drums that piano is fk beautiful work. ❤
Yeah, the piano and drums were absolutely beautiful
Another good, live, version is at the Oakland Colosseum 7/3/1977 🙂
I’ll check it out. Thank you so much.
The Devil’s lettuce BAHAHAHAHA! I haven’t heard that term for a few decades lol!
Had to bring that one back
December 28, 1998 I saw Skynyrd at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.
Yeah, I’ll have to look that up. Thank you.
I was wondering where that joke came from, play free Bird!
All the years I've been listening to this song and the intro still has the power to give me goosebumps.
They weren`t even headliners yet! at this concert they were the worm up band for the rolling stones! They were told not to walk out onto the tongue but they did anyway and Mick Jagger was pissed! as he was screaming at them from the sides of the stage. Haha
So glad they did!!!!
I remember being an opener and thinking we were definitely supposed to be a headliner
My brother told me a story of how he was in a bar one night, and the cover band was like, "What song is it you wanna hear?" My brother shouts out, "SURE AS HELL AIN'T FREEBIRD!!!"
*melee*
My mom was a bartender in the 80s when i was a child. I pretty much grew up in bars. Every song you named was on HEAVY rotation on the juke boxes all the time and have stuck with me ever since. Still to this day if i go to a bar where i live, i will hear 3 or 4 of those songs while im there at least once.
I have to check someone those other ones out. I worked in the strip club before and I felt like that about certain songs that would come on all of the time as well.
hey Krizz,
@ScottLovenberg is correct, the Lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, a backup singer, Cassie Gaines, and “the third lead” guitar, and sometimes singer, Steve Gaines. three key members, one of them, Ronnie, the founding member of the band; as well as the pilot; and a band mgr., all perished in the plane crash that day.
It was the 70's - almost *everybody* alive was baked hard most of the time!! 😉😂👍🏻🚬
You had me at music and comedy.
Music was my first true love and has always been faithful from my happiest moments to my darkest days.
Comedy is a much needed respite in these day's
I don’t know you, I have little experience in the hip hop community. I am learning.
Weed, herb, devils lettuce yeah and it’s therapeutic
Yeah they are baked back in the day when simple possession was a felony.
Except artimus
@@JaquelineGoodspeed he actually joined ten years after the band formed. I first seen them in a two story beach bar in Jacksonville Beach. I knew then they were special. Ronnie was a perfectionist.
I’m learning a lot from the comments. Thank you for participating.
I got to see them 2x before the plane crash of Oct 77 in where Ronnie VanZant lead singer Steve Gaines guitar his sister back up singer Cassie and their manager Fitzpatrick along with the 2 pilots died I still got to see them about 8 more times after
Dope production big luv g 🙌
I am 60 and originally from Alabama so loving LS was requisite 😂😂 I love Ronnie Van Zant’s voice and Sweet Home Alabama is the ringtone! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻

Allman Bros founded Southern Rock. LS perfected it.
Lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant was lost in the plane crash. You would enjoy his songwriting of true life events.
This is awesome. Thank you.

Soooo fucking gassed to see Krizz doing reaction videos!!!! So fucking fire 🔥🔥🔥
My favorite band of all time.
This song will be played at my funeral
Stay up.
Met my husband in 76
I was 16 . Beautiful time to be alive.
65 now . Times have changed. It was a simpler time.
They dedicated this song to Duane Allman (guitarist of the Allman Brothers band) when he died in a motorcycle wreck. He had to leave. He couldn’t stay. He died and became a free bird.
Wow, what a great tribute though
I saw skynard in Denver in 76 one of the best concerts ive been to.
This was just one of the Greatest performances at Woodstock. There were many Incredible talented artist performing at Woodstock. & Yes most of the audience was Gone (so to speak) . I really enjoy yours & Black Pegasus's reactions. Very Cool. 19:22
Every time I hear this I think about my oldest son that passed in 2021 he loved it and played it alot❤🙁 I love it too
Enjoyed your reaction a lot. I got to see Skynyrd 4 times. All with the same guitarist. They always closed their show with Free Bird.
Steve Ganes is the guitarist. Original lead singer Ronnie Vansant ,Steve Ganes, his sister Casey Ganes were amongst those who lost their lives when the Lynard Skynard private jet crashed in October of 77. I had the great pleasure of the Original Lynard Skynard being my fist concert on August 25th 1977 at the big A in Anaheim California. The line up was TRex, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Ted Nugent, and Lynard Skynard . I have seen Lynard Skynard in one form or another 3 more times over the years. Simple Man and Tuesdays Gone are 2 songs in my top five of all time. I'm enjoying watching watching you react to the classics. I still have to check out your music. I really like Black Pegasus and is where I picked up on your channel.
OK right on. Thank you.
Love your reaction & guitar ! LoL great song ty for doing this . . .
When it speeds up the bird flies free, most people do not understand the true genius of this song, yet it's so simple.
