Laura: I just want to plant a few shrubs today. I think we have 25 or 30. 😳 That’s a different definition of “few” than I have. 😂🤣. What a fun project. That home is absolutely gorgeous. How often do you get to plant a completely blank landscape? That’s so fun. Your friends are so blessed to have your expertise! This will be a fun project to watch come along.
😂 I was thinking the same thing! 🤣
Me too lol 😂
Yes thinking the same-too fun!
I was chuckling
That's my definition of "a few" lol Sometimes people that live in areas where they have a small yard say "I'm so jealous of Laura's garden! She has so much space and I have this tiny area" but having a smaller space truly is a blessing because 30 plants in a large space is nothing and things can get very expensive quickly AND physically exhausting. This house is so pretty! Reminds me of a mountain house.
You have a very lucky friend! 😊♥️
Hey! This reminds me- maybe we can get an update of all your beautiful plantings around your neighbors pond area you did last year! That would be fun!
Good morning. You have grown my appreciation for all things gardening so much. I deliver part time and I always take notice of what people are growing or mentally design the space as I walk to their door. But yesterday while delivering I noticed this customer received a PW plant delivery prior to me getting there. The driver seem to intentionally set ALL 3 boxes with the "this side up" arrows facing down. I said out loud "they must not know how much the service cost!" and flipped the boxed right side up and away from the wind. The nerve!
Wow!
I have received two orders of PW in the past, one of them coming from Home Depot. Both occasions the boxes were laid on their sides despite "this side up" arrows on every side. Both boxes also received a little damage as well.
I was home when the Fed Ex truck arrived with my small chest freezer. When he opened the back door the box was upside down! I knew that could effect my condenser at some point..and the freon immediately. I knew to let it sit upright for 24 hours before turning it on also. I filed a complaint with Fed Ex and they reimbursed the cost of the freezer. It wasn't expensive but I am a single income household. I try not to order things delivered by Fed Ex (or any other delivery company) in my area..I know every area is different. Big or small packages...some delivery guys just don't care what's inside.
Glad to this this addressed. I had a whole delivery of PW plants destroyed along with the boxes. Didn’t seem like anyone really cared when I inquired about it.
It disheartens me that the other delivery people would treat their customers orders in such a fashion!😢 It doesn't take a minute more to do the job right! Jeez!
Thanks for saving the day!
Very interesting to see the berms in the beds near the house. This must be an idea reserved for dry climates because here in VA with all the rain we get, you’d be sending a lot of water straight to your foundation. Not good!
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Can’t do that in TN either! But right, they don’t get the heavy rains/flash floods that we get.
My very first thought, also!
Yep same in Michigan, our soil needs to be higher at the foundation then on a slight slope downward towards the front. What lucky friends you have.
I was also wondering about the berms. Like, what function do they perform? "Visual interest"? I'm a simple woman and so I cannot "see" the end result and the look they are going for. It just looks like a moat to me. 🤣
They do get a lot of snow. The home and the berms are forming a nice place for the melt to go straight toward the foundation!!!
Oh man, I hope we can get an update at the end of summer of fall of this landscaping and house. What a beautiful house!
Laura: "We're adding just a few." = more than 30. 😂 You go girl!
🤔😂😂😂
Morning all.
This house looks huge. The plants look absolutely gorgeous, you have done a great job with this blank slate.
I can’t wait to follow there garden journey with you as you plant up there property for them. Good job 👏
They stated in the video the layout and design was created by someone else and she’s just doing the planting ☺️ still lovely as always
We need to get a tour of this house
Your doing such a great job on your friends house. It looked amazing for the graduation party. Can’t wait to see what’s to come on our next visit. We love your programs.
It’s amazing to see you auger all those holes and the only obstruction was an underground pipe. No rocks, no tree roots, just dirt. How different it is in my world!
Gorgeous home wishing your friends many blessings there! It is fun to have the opportunity to watch from start to finish and get ideas to take to one's own project. If a tree grows approx 10 to 12 feet tall and wide, it' should at least be 6 feet from the house/structure - would you make it even further for "insurance" just in case it's larger? Also approx average life of a tree? Thanks, looking forward to the rest of this project?👏👍❤️
I was thinking the same thing!
I was wondering about the roots and whether they might damage the foundation!
My mother always wants me to start a UA-cam channel. And I tell her I don’t have the personality for it. Laura is always so nice and positive. Here she is saying this house is so beautiful and I just sip my tea and keep my thoughts to myself.
I immediately thought of the website McMansion Hell. 😏
Those mounds around the house are driving me nuts! 😂 where I am we get too much rain for that. If I could get over my basement flooding anxiety I think it could be cool though
I didn’t even think of flooding, funny how we all see different things! They get really little rainfall there, I think it’s a non-issue on their end.
I agree!! I think they get an average rainfall of 12 inches a year whereas my area gets 40+. I’m conditioned to slope AWAY from the house..
@@kymzyanks rain water filled my pool this year. 😂😂😂
Same!! Lol I can’t imagine having so little rain
I live in the AZ desert, & we wouldn't do that here. Trapping water against the house is not a good idea.
As a Garden Designer, those trees are planted way too, close to the house!
Wow, what an exciting project for you and your friends! Beautiful home. The gardens will be phenomenal when they fill in. What an honor for you to help develop this plan. Have fun and thank your friends for letting you take us along for the ride.
Having a professional come and do the plan around my new construction home was the best money spent! It's taken 4 years to get it all in by myself...with tweaks...but having a plan made it so much easier to plant as I could find the plants and time. Excited to watch you bring the design to life!
@@stewartnelson4800 Why are you asking these questions of women here?
Your friend is very kind to share her garden project with us all.
Good Morning!! 🌞 What fun to have a blank slate to work with! That house is gorgeous & will be beautiful when everything is planted! 😃🏡🌳🌹🌻🌿
Love the house! Wow, so beautiful. The Bihou will be stunning right there, and the Buckhorn sounds like a neat plant...Will have to look for that one...thanks for taking us on this journey!
Careful with the berms. Make sure they are not trapping water up against the home. So interesting to see your choices. Those maples at the door are perfect.
SO much fun watching a new space begin!!!!
I love much gardening most especially the flowers like daliahs and also the vegetables.
Hello Laura 😊So pleased to see you have seen the value in berms through this friend’s project! A while back when that wasn’t the case, I plucked up the courage to suggest the idea in a comment when I think it wasn’t a positive concept for you. Someone jumped on my suggestion SCOLDING that you had ALREADY said you don’t like them. What I knew then, and still believe, is that-things change, ideas morph, and we should all be open to that. That is the fun in gardening. I’m SO glad you have come around to the idea when you’ve actually seen them in a situation where used judiciously. They add that ‘je ne sais quoi’ element that can make a flower bed and many other situations more interesting. But like everything, they should be employed with forethought. 😊
Laura this is very interesting and I'm most definitely enjoy seeing you do from the ground up planting evestment new home with Shrubbery and plants. It's wonderful seeing new ideas in a new home with new new planting from the beginning. Thank you for taking us on this magical ride. It gives us new ideas for our homes as we begin ours!
I think you just solved a problem for me. I am adding a new bed around a magnolia tree, but can't fill in too much dirt over the roots. I am now going to add a berm at the outer portion of the bed and minimal compost around the tree area. Will scatter marigold seeds under the tree and plant annuals in the berm. Thanks Laura for the video! Your friends house is gorgeous and will enjoy seeing the planting progress.
I hope, you will bring us back to see the garden when it is compleated. Thx. Loved it
Good morning, Laura, from Windermere Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸
I love watching you in a new setting and I feel your excitement 👩🌾👍
Happy Gardening Everyone 🌿💚🌿
Laura I appreciate your “can do spirit” -you just go after It and get ‘er done 😃 … I always appreciate your knowledge of plant species with all the stats to help them
“Thrive” 🤓 you AMAZE me 🙏♥️
🙃🕶😎
I love the newness of a newly built home!
many blessings to your friends as they start their life in their new home and garden. May this home and garden give them so much joy! So exciting!
Wow I’m just imagining having Laura overseeing and planting my gardens..talk about gardening dreams coming true!!!
I've never been a fan of berms but with Laura's touch I might change my mind.
🌷Good day to all! This is so great seeing this new-build and Laura in her ‘natural’ element of planting beautiful and beautifying plants. What a lovely home, and having Laura and Aaron help is the frosting on the cake! Can’t wait to see this in its mature years. Enjoy a safe and happy weekend everyone 👏🏻. From dreary Michigan 💚💛🤎💚💛🤎🌸
It is so dreary here.. just praying for some better weather! Southwest Michigan 👋🏼
@@staceyallard2692 I agree Stacey I’m from southwest Michigan too.
Beautiful home and I'm sure the landscaping you're doing is going to look great. For all the guys watching this video we want to know what's going in the garage!? That's a huge garage with one of them with a higher ceiling height and so my mind goes to a camper going in that space.
How exciting to watch this landscape take shape and grow. And what a blessing you are to your friends. Thanks for taking us along.
Amazing interest of all sorts in this video!
Thank you for constantly finding topics of such interest for us all! We love everything Garden Answer, but to spread the opportunity of a new build with interest all around makes your channel even more appealing!
Thank you for interacting your family in your videos, love this so much! Obviously it makes everything real life and shows how your complete life and interest in growing and planting plants are appreciated and used in real life!! Your Mom!! She is a gem!! I can do associate the duo of you and your beautiful mother, your parents and what they have taught you growing up! Great heritage!
So excited to watch the teachings with your own children evolve!!
Is anyone else hoping that Laura reveals the inside of this beautiful home and gorgeous windows with a design and tour of house plants indoors!! The duo of you and your Mom designing the indoor house plants, that couldn’t get any better!!
YES PLEASE!!!
Thank you Garden Answer your channel is Amazing !!🙏🏻♥️🌺✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I love this - I have never seen a garden developed from the beginning - so neat to see the process that you go through to implement a design. What a gorgeous house - and such a HUGE piece of land to play with and develop gardens. Cant wait to see more of Laura's work here.
Wow! A blank slate, let the color begin. Love love the pink chiffon they are gorgeous. What fun to design with color. Love to see the finish results. You do an awesome job, any home owner would love your colorful touch. Many blessings and much love.
Hi Michele.
Oh my, this brought back some really nice memories. After I retired I went back to school to learn landscape design, including blueprints, propagation, leaf structure to identify plants, hardscape, etc. It was fun to help customers design their property for long term interest. Even though it may not be your favorite thing about gardening, with your knowledge you are very good at it and I can hear your excitement. Looking forward to each additional video on this project. Thanks
Good morning, Laura ☕️ How fun! Especially for your friends. Aren’t they lucky! Gorgeous home🤩 Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
Thank you so much for doing a “blank slate” type of video. My home had all creeping grass and no flowerbed so I am essentially starting from scratch and battling the preexisting fauna. This really inspires and provides much needed guidance.
Your friend is the luckiest person alive to have you as their friend! Can't wait to see more! Thanks for sharing. xo
Thank you Laura. You continue to inspire and motivate all of here. Bless you and your family!
That house is so beautiful!! Can’t wait to see what it all looks like at the end when everything is is fool of color and all filled in!! You are such an amazing person Laura!!
Laura you are always enthusiastic about your projects but it seems you are more excited about this one. Thank you for taking us along and showing us the plans. Can’t wait to see all the phases and of corse the final project.
Really beautiful home! I love the tall entrance and back porch. I was wondering why they chose to add the berms up against the house? I know rain might not be an issue like for some of us as others have mentioned. But it just seems odd to have the hills so close to the walls I love that you decided to add the maple in the corner, it really needed height there. But looking at your mom’s gorgeous tree it seems to be planted rather close to the house. It will be great to follow along on their progression.
I just love Garden Answer. I’m learning all the time! Today I planted strawberries. I pruned all my (10) hydrangeas. I love working in my garden. I’m so inspired by you, Aaron and your parents! The children are sweet. Thank you! From Petaluma Ca zone 9b. 😊🌸🌷🦋🌺🌹
@@thstrt90gmailcom11 What’s with all the “hi” to women?
I love watching this from ground zero. It helps me learn the process of plant placement and building beds. Thanks, Laura and Aaron.
It's wonderful that these homeowners went ahead and put in infrastructure for landscaping. I see so many beautiful homes built without any attention paid to landscaping which can elevate your home design to the next level.
Hi, how are you doing??
Perfect timing!! Hubby and I are building a new home and we have just contacted a company to assist us in developing a design...SO exciting. This is great inspiration for me! TY :)
“ whoooeee!!! There’s a hole there!!” Good save, Laura! Glad you didn’t fall in it!
Such a cool project, and nice of you to help your friends with their planting at this beautiful house. And interesting to see a different space on a more structured plan. I tend to do things on a looser method, like you do. ( Decide as you go). So it’s fun to see how there is quite a variety of ways to make things beautiful around garden spaces! Excellent work!!💚💚💚
I think your adjustments are great! They are so lucky to have you work on their landscape!
You’re right Laura that entranceway is incredible definitely don’t want to hide it. They are so lucky to have you help develop their property. Some fruit trees for sure and maybe a couple cats if you have any extra!
This was so fun to watch! I’m excited to watch you do your magic for your friend - thanks to you and them for allowing us to come along. 🌼
Lovely your doing a friends garden it's going to looks so beautiful when you have finished it. But what you have planted so far is just so beautiful. You are such a lovely friend Laura.
This is such a fun project to watch start to finish! I’m curious, when would you bring in pots and instant splashes of color while the landscaping slowly takes shape? Will that begin this year for instant reward or do they want to wait?
Following along for I too have a blank space project breaking ground in just a couple weeks! Addicted to this channel!
I really appreciate how you give us such detailed information about which plant you are planting, why you chose that plant and how the plant should perform. You've helped me so much. I have really developed a whole new level of appreciation for gardening. Thank you Laura
How exciting! Thank you for taking us along. It's already looking beautiful.
Hi 👋 Laura, how are you doing?
Super fun video! It will be fun to watch this project develop and fill in over time! How blessed they are to have your input!
Love your approach to gardening, Laura. I have a question, though. Has the red Japanese maple planted in the inner corner of the house been placed too close to the walls? If its ultimate width is 6-8 ft, wouldn't it look and fit better when it is fully grown if planted farther from the corner? In my neighborhood I see so many mature trees jammed next to houses; hence my question.
I agree it's not a good location for a Japanese Maple, the reflection of the sun off the window & the house will eventually kill it (much like what happened to her Japanese Maple)
Lucky friends a beautiful house and so lucky to have Laura come and do the garden. I would love that she has amazing ideas
So helpful, Laura! I started with a blank slate two years ago, and your videos have really helped me. It is always a work in progress but so much more fun with some expert guidance from you!
Morning! Thank you for sharing this amazing project. Can't wait to see how it unfolds. My house is in a similar style, a new build, and I've been struggling to wrap my head around landscaping a modern farmhouse exterior (so far I've barely done anything but put down grass!). This video comes at the perfect time for me. It's like you read my mind and for that I am so appreciative. Lovely job, as always.
So excited to see a blank slate. So much work going into planning and planting in stages. Love it!! Cannot wait to see the progress throughout the season.
We all have different ideas about our dream landscapes. I would love to see low berms about 30 feet away from house with 3 focal trees, maybe maples, and surrounding shrubs to frame a seating area and a stone firepit. I could imagine so many lovely areas there without hugging the house so closely. Laura is certainly an inspiration !
I’m excited to see how this home turns out!
What a beautiful home. You are such an amazing friend. Seeing everything that needs to be done is overwhelming. I love the idea of a paper plan to start. This makes me feel like there is hope for my yard.
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day
It’s such a hot spot for a dog run, hope they are short turn runs each day
I'd LOVE a video all about the master plan!
That is a beautiful house! You and Aaron are such giving people. That makes me happy.
Really enjoyed this video to se how berms are planted. This landscape is going to be beautiful!
You have done a fantastic job with your plan! It is awesome to see your thought process as you work on this blank slate 🙂
Interesting to see you working on another huge area. I love your changes, it will make it a lot more pleasing to the eye. My neighbor has some of the Buckhorns and I always wondered what they were. I think I need a few. Did anyone else cringe when they saw the temporary kennel in the blazing sun with nothing to protect the dog from the elements? I had to go back and rewatch what you were talking about because I got focused on that kennel. Made me sad for the dog.☹️
Hi 👋 Linda, how are you doing?
And I hope you're enjoying the weekend over there?
My fav when you show us stuff that looks so beautiful, and then tell me it’s a zone 2! I get so excited when I see things I can plant too!!
Awesome to see a new slate plan to creat, as time allows.. You have some great ideas and structure plans with beautiful shrubs. Thank for showing us what your doing it is enjobable to see.
Loved this video, but I can't wait for the recap video. Laura, please answer the questions about the berms, and the placing of some trees! I just love the property, your friends are very fortunate to have you.
How wonderful!! Thanks for Sharing all your great videos with us all!!! 🌷😘💕🌹
Hi Laura. I’m happy to follow along with you and Aaron for this new garden for your friends. It will be exciting to see.
This is my favorite video series that you do. I love seeing your ideas applied in different landscapes. Gorgeous so far!
I was bummed when the tour ended without making the full turn around the house and kept trying to peek... I saw lots of covered landscape... Like for a playground... Or raised garden beds. 😃😃😃
Laura and Aaron, while watching this, I'm thinking what lucky🍀 friends you have! Even though you didn't draw up the planting plan, the area will definitely take on the tweaked Laura signature. I can't wait to see more of this landscape as you continue to plant around your friend's gorgeous home.🍁🐝🦋🌱
Everyone needs a friend like you Laura, that is going to look wonderful xx
Beautiful home. I like seeing videos off sight from your house. It just mixes things up.
Love this. We bought our house 5 years ago and removed 54 (yes 54, not a typo) various shrubs that were in the front of the house. Since then I have been taking my time and with much inspiration and education from you guys, on planning the flowerbed. Its slowing coming together. I bought a bare root David Austin climbing rose last year and just knew my husband had killed it before I could get it in the ground. Much to my delight he didn't and I did get a couple of blooms, I am very excited to see what it does this year. We are in Texas so we deal with the extreme heat and humidity so I am mindful of the perennials I am using for our zone 8 (Dallas). Lately we have been having such crazy winds and I thought to myself, this must be what Laura and Aaron feel like when having to deal with their winds. I can't wait to see the continued series on this landscape but of course I enjoy watching all the videos whether they apply to me or not. :)
Laura, your so amazing! I live in Kuna, Idaho. I have a Corey Barton home and I had put knock out roses in the garden bed, but it just isn't what I want. I'm 60 years old and I really need something beautiful, but easy. I'd love to have that yard that people drive by with envy. I look forward to your videos, I spend every evening going through getting ideas.
I love the idea of they unpruned boxwood. The whispy branches are so freeing to me.
This project is so exciting. Looking forward to this
I would like to see that front door (entry way) all done up for Christmas!
This is so exciting!!! I love watching transformations. You have so much energy! I need that back!
Good morning! What a beautiful home. You will make it so much more beautiful with all the landscaping you will be doing.
Oh my goodness, Laura what FUN! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm so excited to see what you do with this blank slate!
Hi Barb.
I have never seen a house with the garage being larger than the house. LOVE that front door

👋🏼 I have four of the improved fineline buckthorn in containers and I love them. I was watching a video of your tour of PW garden/ Four Star greenhouse in Michigan? About five years ago, I’m not sure, and I fell in love with them. I can’t wait to see them fully grow.💝💖💝💖🤩
Great to see something unfold from start to finish. It will end up gorgeous, I’m sure.
wow, what a gorgeous home! how many people are dying to see the inside, too, lol! what lucky friends they are to have you on the job! it's gonna be fun watching this come together - thank you to your friends for letting us have a peek!! and have fun!! 🙂 ❤ thanks for the video!! 🙂 ❤
We built that exact same style of front porch on our home...we used lighter colour of would for the ceiling and then painted the beams (but not the posts) white. Love this look!
Beautiful home and properties all around...looks like a very WEALTHY area🤩
Laura, the planting looks gorgeous. Why plant the BIHOU and the Japanese Maple so close to the house? Since they get 4 to 6 wide I would think you want to plant at minimum 10-12 feet away from the house. When trees are so close to the house usually the house gets green from the moisture etc. Also the high berms around the foundation of the house aren’t you concerned with the rain water and melting snow falling backwards towards the house?
I love that you’re helping them with the yard. The house is beautiful but with proper landscaping it will be amazing.
