    Nice video, I subscribed. But I will disagree, you don’t have to full auto on the Minolta x700. You can expose for what ever you want and lock the exposure with the front button, or you can under/overexpose -+2 stops, or you can go fully manual. It’s better to have these options than guestimate each time. And the lighmeter in the Minolta is top notch.

      Thanks! I do agree with you, with pretty much all of your points. I didn’t utilize the ael, just did a run and gun comparison. The meter is one of the best that I’ve used next to the Nikon f4. Thanks for the sub!

    Thank you for the awesome video, brother! My mom passed away last September, and today I began the process of sorting through some of her stuff. I found an old camera bag in her bedroom closet, immediately opened it up, and found a mint condition Minolta x-700, along with a motor drive 1 attachment and a Minolta tele zoom 70-210mm lens, owner's manuals for everything, and even the original sales receipt from 1985 with her maiden name printed on it lol. Needless to say, I can't wait to get some fresh film and give this thing the life it deserves!
    also, if someone is wearing a sweater that doesn't have at least a couple dog hairs on it, can they really be trusted? ;)

      Sorry to hear that your mother passed.
      That’s amazing! Shooting with that camera will be amazing. Not only is it a great camera to use, but it has sentimental value and history to it! I’d personally like to see how the photos turn out.
      P.s. dog hair is a must 😂

    Great video. I agree with another comment about running the X700 in manual mode. From what I’ve shot, the UltraMax 400 is my fave, followed by Cinestill800T. About to roll through my first Ilford, then Psychedelic Blue.
    Since starting film a couple of months ago, I started developing and scanning at home and am going to start my channel up again. Something about analog just can’t be replaced!!

    Nice comparison! Would definitely go for the canon if I had a little more experience. The Minolta killed it in that pizza shop photo

    Sorry to be late to the video. I have been a digital photographer for the last 10 years or so. I sold my Nikon F3 35mm system about that same time, and now I'm looking for a 35mm film system for black and white work. The Canon F1-n and the Minolta X-700 are the two I'm interested so this was useful. I'm still on the fence, I think exposing manually with the X-700 may have given results closer to the F1. Maybe you highlighted the weakness of the X-700 Auto mode. Although, other photographers tell me that the Minolta X-700's meter is second to none. Hearing the opinion of a photographer with both platforms was helpful, thanks.

    Fun fact. The minolta has an AE lock so you can expose for light/shade area's. The button for self time instead of pulling up you push it down

    How do you avoid grain?is it because of the auto exposure?if i do it manually will it be a sharper image and no grain?

    • @Rez1k
      @Rez1k  2 роки тому

      Grain is determined by two things!
      1. The type of film that’s used. 800 iso film will have more grain than 100 iso film.
      2. How it’s developed. If you push your film, more grain is introduced. By pulling in development, you can reduce your grain!

    Nice vid ..... seems like manually you are more or less spot metering and auto is relying on center weighted metering by the camera .... I’ll take spot metering every time

    • @Rez1k
      @Rez1k  3 роки тому

      Thank you! That is correct, the X700 and AE1P both relies on CW. Spot is definitely the way to go!

    Hello! I shot on minolta x-700 P mode and my subject was blur but the background was clear. Any tips how to avoid that? I just devaloped my first film and realised this

    • @Rez1k
      @Rez1k  2 роки тому +1

      Your image was out of focus! Before taking the photo, manually adjust the lens to have your subject as in focus as you can. It can be tough sometimes on a slr! If the subject is clear while focusing and appear blurry on the film, then something with the camera may not be aligned.

    You are aware that you can shoot the Minolta as manual as you can with the Canon? Seems a little strange that you choose the F-1, when you like the weight and overall handling of the x-700 🤣
