Spackling/drywall is awful. If you are going to do it, at least do it right.
Use Durham's rock hard putty, or Bondo to fill the holes and gaps. Yes, it takes longer, but there is nothing worse than doing a half-assed job. By using the right products you'll have a superior finish.
I'm getting ready to strip the carpet off of a pair of large speaker cabinets and put DuraTex on them.
I may just make a video of the process.

Nice demo of the DuraTex Product..... I'll be ordering some for refinishing some QSC Speakers to start. And folks, this carpet looks like it was attached using spray adhesive. As for the case quality, not every case is built from 3/4 inch Baltic Birch Plywood with half-blind dovetail joints and such. Quality Materials Cost $$$, and so does Precision Tooling & Manufacturing, Plus the use of Skilled Labor ...OK?
Now let's see carpet pulled off with crap tons of fur and glue left on it.

Yikes. Spackle? That WILL chip off. I would use maybe bondo or a wood filler at least.

Someone gave me an idea for a cheaper alternative. Gallon size tile glue. Dump some flat black paint into it. Stir and then apply to the wood.

Yeah. This must have been a mock up for the video. Carpet is WAY harder to get off a cabinet.

those have to be the cheapest most crappy made case I have ever seen damn the carpets were not even glued to the cabinet even when it was done it looked like it couldn't even hold up my sound processor unit let a lone any amp

If you are simply able to "peel" the carpet off.... Your roadcase is built like shit...
Whoever is doing the prep has no idea whatsoever how to hold a filler knife and apply it.
