Thank you for watching!
As a writer, I have to say that the concept of "I watch their videos and it motivates me to do x, y, and z" is actually a good thing. Contemporaries motivate each other. Writers are influenced by other writers all the time. Don't shy away from people who inspire you to do stuff. Keeps you moving.
Thanks for the kind words! Thx spiegel
Great vid
Remember, if you have a lame 2 roller mill, you can roll the malt twice.
You will get better malt if it whole and you roll it yourself. Some maltsters put the crap malt in the “already rolled” bin cause you can’t tell things like plump after it’s all crushed. Also malt lasts fresh a long time if it’s whole - not so much after it’s crushed.
True… but as a home distiller with a 26 gallon still.
A 55 pound bag of malt is gone in a month or less.
Hell… a 55 pound bag of both 2 row and malted wheat are gone in less than a month.
And the store lets me mill it for free and leave the mess behind.
All while charging me a whopping $55 per 55# bag of any malt I want.
Of course… the fact that a BSG regional warehouse is 6-7 miles from my house probably helps slightly.🤷♂️🤣👍🥃
I love the DIY aspect of these videos. I'd like to see more of that, it inspires me to tweak my system every time. Also, my mill is my favorite tool I'll never get rid of it! Thanks for making more videos. Cheers.
Yeah mills are huge, last thing you need to conclude your brewhouse. Cheers Jules!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Looking for DIY grain mill and chiller videos brought me here.
I found a great home brew and grain store about 20 minutes from my house.
They sell most grains for $2 a pound.
They’ve ordered me rye and 6 row barley in 55 pound bags for $85 a bag...
And the mill it as part of the purchase.
Great deal.
They sell a 2 roller home mill for $125...
But I figured why buy it if they mill it for me.🤷♂️
But I realize a lot of people don’t have a good shop near them.
Cool video.
Solid advice.💪👍🥃
Update…
That shop went belly up.😵
But I found a new store 15 minutes away selling 55# bags for $55 of any malted grain.
What a difference 2 years can make.
Apparently malted grain is immune to idiot Biden’s price inflation.
Although apparently it help that a BSG distribution warehouse is literally 6-7 miles from my house.🤷♂️🤣👍🥃
Love your videos, we are lucky that the brew shops in Colorado are open, got a good one we buy from and they let us mill on site for free, no matter the quantity or time we take. Eventually we will out grow them, but it's a awesome thing they do for homebrewers
Sounds ideal. Cheers!
Glad to inspire brah!! Definitely recommend your own mill!! Nice tips!! Cheers!!! 👍🍻
Hell yeah brian. Gonna ask you 20 questions in like 5 minutes! Ha jk just playing
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE haha... Bring it!!
Don’t forget to check Home Depot scrap wood pile. Odds and ends from people that have their wood cut down in the store gets tossed on a pile and sold for pennies on the dollar. Just find a piece the size you need.
Got my mill, time to start buying grain in bulk once I use up all my kits!
Derek P yup! 🍻 ❤️
I have one of these Chinese Mills with a motor and it works great (hopefully the motor doesn't burn up). It's a little slow but it does the job. I mounted it to an Ikea cabinet and the Home Depot buckets fits right inside and there's hardly any dust. Also in case you haven't noticed Northern Brewer is charging $3.00 to mill your grains, so it may pay for itself eventually.
solid feedback, cheers MK!
A year on and I'm literally in 7 day quarantine so I'm rewatching as many HB4L videos as my brain/eyes will allow
Cheers Dad!
“Subscribe to our channel if you think Carol Baskin killed her husband” - I think you just earned yourself a loyal subscriber sir
Would love to see a home brew aint dead shirt. That’s the absolute truth braj
Brahj Mahal you have been on a tear... Keep it up!
I think we all have! I'm sincere when i say that homebrewing is on the turnaround. Cheers big John!
Milwaukee for life bro
Thanks for all the great vids, I use RO water too and would like to see how you punch in your water chemistry on Bru’n Water. Definitely favorite brewing channel right now.
Yeah we are gonna have a water and water editions video as soon as i can get the boys back over! Cheers john!
Great Vid! Keep it up...keep on keeping on...brewing on. You get it. I digress.
Brew on Patrick, cheers braj!
Near the end you mentioned some mills dont turn the other rollers, is that because those adjustment knurled knobs are resting on the wood? Should they be in contact with the wood? Id think theyd need to be free and clear hanging in space, to be adjusted...

I learn something new every time! Love the corny workhorse fam.
Cheers matt!!!
Way to go Braj! Cranking some good content!
Solo yolo! #quarentinelife
HB is not dead! cheers!
I gotta hop on that all grain brew bus
yes. yes you do
The Slough Life there are other ways of brewing beer?
The extract kits a great for starting out, especially when you're usually strapped to find time for a brew day. But it's very limiting.
Why do I get the urge to brew beer AND play SNES when I watch your videos? Strange…
my name is Grandpa and i recently retired and i love Beer
Same!
When I saw that Cat lady Kidnapper, I killed myself
I do biab and use a corona mill with a 1/3hp motor mills grain fine which is best for biag
Duly noted cheers Barry!
I've nipped my finger under the rollers and it wasn't pleasant I can tell you. That ale was renamed a "blood red" ale for reasons other than color
Hey guys, love the videos, does it matter what RPM you're running the drill at? Will any corded drill work? Thanks
Yeah any drill works
Seen nearly a year later. Still quarantined.
when you and the crew can get back together for a brew day, you should do a BIAB vid with the MegaManX soundtrack in the back.... k? k
TEEJ DEAL
I knew you were legit when I saw that tool belt
What do you do if your roller keeps getting stuck do you have to oil it or something?
Never clean it with a brush. Clean it with a brush
You should do a video on a DIY jockey box.
Thats a great idea lex!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Thanks bro I like your DIY videos you get straight to the point and don't complicate shit plus you post links.
Liked this video before I watched it
Haha that made me “lol” in real life
HOMEBREW 4 LIFE yeah same, I did that too. Double llol
Year later - yep, still in quarantine!
we are?
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE certainly are in Australia
Haha like that battletoads sound effect! Old school #NES
Nice catch Joe!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE yo dude enjoy the content been watching since 2019. Keep up the good work. Just poured my first hazy that I brewed a few weeks ago. Also just bought a clawhammer 🤙🏽. Excited to get that bad boy. You definitely have to come to Austin at some point to check out the beer scene. Cheers 🍻
Not my first brew just first beer from this batch braj
I’ll be in Austin this summer, cheers!
thank you, sir
Party sity fam!
respect as always bruh... but did u get that new zelda game and so was it worth it?
If anyone knows anything about the engineering behind how these mills work, are adjusted and produce what it is that you are expecting from it....you'd buy the 2 roller mill...the extra roller does absolutely butt nothing except get in the way of one side of the crush....your choice though, cos as it does nothing of value, it also does not do anything fundamentally different or negatively from that of a 2 roller...the true difference between the 2....they both crush grain...that's it
good shit fam
Cheers braj!
I work for a company that does sheet metal fab with cnc cutting machine...would it be okay if I have them fab me a hopper?
absolutely not. Just buy one
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE message received!
I use that hand crank, ALWAYS. You can't get 27" forearms using a drill, brah.
Lol duly noted fam
I can get at least one 27" forearm..
Shout out speed square braj!
Ha!
Good one Fam!
In INDIA if you take grains to mills it would be 10₹ for 2lbs i.e. 0.13$ for 2 pounds
Cheers!
Battletoads pause music represent.
Dude. Thats a phenomenal catch. Great work detective #nes
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Nintendo copyright strike!!! Aaaaaahhhhhh...
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Ha, i made a video of my friends brewery "battlemage" and the $0.66 went to Nintendo of North America for using a zelda song in the background. Capcom and squaresoft are cool about it. Nintendo ain't
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE I know I hear that all the time from creators!!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE That explains a crap ton about why you use Megaman, Chrono Trigger, and SF2 music.
You should sell that wood on craigslist! You could make millions!
Genius!
Beers not dead, no it's not!
When I make it back to the states I'm gonna drive by beer your house! No glass though. That's dangerous.
Lets boogie!
Carol killed her husband. Nice table! Great info on milling the grain.
How would one mill their 50lb bags if they didn't have a mill?
Brutal dude. Buy a mill or be prepared for the worst day ever
I bet, just asking because you said you've got all these things like buying hops by pound and grain by the bag but you mising the mill, just at the point of buying grain by the bag and was thinking 'but then I need a mill' wish I had a buddy with a mill I could borrow for 5 mins a week
Monster Mills are American made. Just throwing that out there.
#respect
If you are willing to spend the big bucks, and want the Bentley of home mills, check out the MillMaster Grain Mill from MashMaster in Australia. It's expensive, like ~$300USD plus shipping and taxes. It's a 2 roller mill, but it uses fluted rollers instead of knurled, and they are both gear driven, so when you apply power to the shaft to power one of the rollers, a connecting gear powers the 2nd roller as well, so you don't get ripping and tearing of grains. I'm still saving up to buy one, stupid expensive, but it is what it is, and like you said, they last forever.

Here is a video of it in action (powered by a motor) > ua-cam.com/video/_31WEkC9l0w/v-deo.html
There is also a new mill from Keg King, also in Australia, but it's only $150, has 3 knurled rollers, the top 2 are gear driven though, so it has the same benefit with the gears as the MillMaster.

you can do it!
Great energy hbfl. Bitchin
I just made sourdough bread
Thumb up for Mega Man
Nice catch bill!
Salmon of capistrano 🤣
Both channels you mentioned are doing a lot of talking. Love the tips but let's make some beer!
Both those channels are awesome. Be glad they are putting out free info. Cheers!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Completely agree! 🍻
I'll start sending Ryan in the back when Tim's brewing more often! Usually the brewing schedules and the video schedules are different though.
Side note- when Covid is over we should put together a UA-camrs WIB
Seriously are there not threaded holes to bolt this to a base? One would be better off using those than resting it on your stops. Also there is a reason why the commercialbase covers the entire bucket....grain dust is absolutely not good for you to enhale. Just cover the bucket yo
Why not just mill your grain at the homebrew store?
wow. more than 100dollars for a used one, i'm stuck in china and buying stuff so i can brew back home in europe... i found a brand new one for 30-35 dollars
Snag it!
A year later...
much love Aleandro!
I want to waste my whole WEEK making sourdough bread!
Haha we are too
I won!
Go to bed!
Also the mill we use in the brewery is the Pro MM-3 that I've had for 10 years now... and it uses a drill (which I got for a sweet deal when I worked at a hardware store)
@@GenusBrewing dude I've worked at commercial breweries where the motor broke and we still ended up using like a $30 ryobi corded drill. And then we had to undo the sides outside the rollers and sweep in the grains that didn't make it with a disgusting foxtail brush. all bad PM
I close my eyes and hear Nicolas Cage
ha, i get that about once a week
In one day? Ur getn more productive than face mask designers..

@@HOMEBREW4LIFE A man has to do what a man has to do.
I was looking up a mil and we have recently got a kitchen aid mixer. there is a 400 watt attachment to mill grain for $99. Think that could be a good version?
i have absolutely no idea
