    New homebrewer here(about 10 brews) I have found in my country extract brewing is about double the price of grain brewing! I have however done exclusively kits so far to decide the styles of beers I want to brew. For the most part kits are decent(definitely better than store bought) but the control and quality is far better with all grain. I've actually just ordered my first bag and grain bill so I guess wish me luck on the next step! Also I had an incredible beer called Kirin Ichiban(Japanese) they use exclusively extract and it was one of the most beautiful and complex beers I've ever had! I guess I'm saying don't hate on extracts they have their place! 😂😂😂😂 love the channel keep it up!

    Pro tip, if you go to a propane exchange, the tanks they give you are only filled to 3/4 capacity. It's cheaper and you get more gas if you go to a place that fills the tanks for you.

      Even the place that refills they refill to 3/4. Propane tanks aren’t supposed to be fully filled

      @@punjab1captain that's not true. A partially filled tank is more dangerous than a fully filled tank, because there is room for the liquid fuel to turn into explosive gas. Also, when you refill, you pay by the gallon only for the fuel you get . When you exchange, you're paying much more than the price it would cost to refill a tank to full.

    15:00 Electric is quite a bit faster if you use a 5500W water heater element in the tank. And you never have to wonder if you have enough propane for the brew day.

    Like the recommendation to skip straight to biab over beginning with extract, but it seems like your only reason is affordability. My take is that you can start with extract so you can save on time and expense, and get used to the workflow on the front end but the downside is that you don't really learn much. Taking that smaller step to experiencing a full brew day is so much more gratifying on the tail end when you know that you ran it the full way from grain to tap/grain to bottle.

    When I first got into Homebrewing I started AG with BIAB and was the first and only guy in my home brew club that made beer that way. It’s a fantastic way to make beer.

    I've only brewed 1 beer (Extract Cream Ale). Don't have a chiller and it came out a lot more bitter than I'd hoped, but this is simple enough I might actually get a bag and do this. Thanks Braj

    Not sure if anyone has said already you can also check your gas bottle by running a small kettle of fresh boiled water down the side and you will be able to see the amount of gas is left in the propane tank.

    Doing the lords work as usual! BIAB is great… the only plus for starting with 5 gallon extract is you can likely brew your first batches with a pot in your cabinet and top up in the fermenter and you’re not paying for a 10 gallon kettle. I know that’s what i did when $100 for a pot seemed extravagant. A bunch of extract kits are formulated that way.

    BIAB in a modified Tea Urn is how I made the jump to all grain 10 plus years ago, we used net curtain for our bags. Just bought on of your shirts. Cheers lads

    Good video! That's awesome you're getting into biab, definitely the easiest way to brew. Id be interested in one of those hoppy hour stickers, and a hb4l sticker also.
    I've been using a whirlpool adapter when cooling the wort, works great to help drop the temp fast. Might be worth looking into

    In memory the best beer I ever tasted was a wheat beer at Tulsa Brewing Company in Tulsa in like 1996 or 1997. I had a slice of orange in it. It just tasted fresh.

    I did exactly what you suggested - jumped into all-grain by doing BIAB. Best way to go. I think a lot of beginners feel like they have to test the waters by doing extract first. You don't - with BIAB the process is so easy and affordable, and you get fantastic results.

    Aussie here. We used to get big eye ipa here. My first favourite ipa. Sculpin was the be all... 10 years later, we don't even see imports. Aussie beers are world class.

    One thing to keep in mind with propane in CA is it's legal to fill by volume here instead of by weight like most states. SO, if you go by weight, don't count on all of your fills weighing the same.

    When I replaced my propane tanks - I went to U-Haul. Tanks cost the same as big box stores, comes with a gas gauge - shows you how much is left - and, as commented below - when they fill, they fill it up, and they threw in the first fill! Done BIAB 4ever...I do recirculate, and I use a sous vide machine to do the mash - saves a ton of gas, but takes a while, so I turn it on in the morning when I wanna brew and come back to it later - good to go! Using the pump to recirc, I get good mash efficiency and no hot spots. By the way, was that Dexter's (Dexter's Lab) HOT MOM on your kegerator door? Braj On!

    Around here there are few nano-style breweries that only do small batches on their own for few bars. But then they also do contract brewing at larger breweries and sell bottles in supermarkets and those beers are not even close to those on tap.

    Thanks for the video guys, I really enjoyed it. Just a question though, if you already have the false bottom cooler mashtun, could you do the same thing with that? To me its easier to clean the cooler than it is to try and get every little bit of stuck piece of grain clinging to the bag.

    Two quick questions, I've always heard that squeezing the bag was bad. That you would squeeze out tannins. I take it this is false.

    Thanks for all your great videos! Really wanna start all grain brews and get away from LME. Would like to know details since I am on a retired budget as well. Like.. Brew Bag? Where to get cheap? What size is it considered? Cheap alternatives like maybe Net Laundry Bag? Some dude told me to use Paint Strainers, which is cool for Hop Pellets.. but not grain bags. Insight and some tips would be super more awesomer bro! Stuck with 5 gallon batches for now. THANKS!

      I brew with 15g kettles and Im also not sure how much grains they can hold, I will say I usually use around 11 gallons of water and have used 20 pounds of grains with room to spare.

      @@tman9338 You're welcome. You could always work your way up, 20lbs, 25lbs, etc and see if it looks like 30lbs will fit. Keep in mind water loss too, both from steam and from the grains soaking up water. Good luck!

    I was a little confused about the part at the end of the 30 minute boil when he pulled out the bag and said something about getting it to 170F for "mash out". But I'm a BEGINNER beginner, so this is probably standard shit?

    Mash out step not necessary for full volume BIAB. Conversion stops when you pull the bag. Use the minutes I just saved you wisely, mon ami.

    There wasn't any mention of the bag touching the bottom and melting when the flame is on. What did you do to mitigate that possibility?

      We killed the heat at 160F, added grains and bag, and then pulled the bag out when we fired the gas back on

      @@HOMEBREW4LIFE Sorry, I'll clarify. The BruShow guy said that if the temp drops too far he just turns the heat back on to raise it, but didn't mention anything about possibly melting the bag which could happen.

      @@FoScoJo you could lift the bag and secure with a clamp if your worried about burning it. But should only need to turn the heat on for a minute or two to get back temp

    If it wasn't for BIAB I'd be doing extract still. Too lazy for traditional all grain.
    Shoutout to the coffee braj (forgot his name) who you did a podcast with a while ago for introducing it to me. I switched over to BIAB after that video.

    I like the idea of BIAG, but I'm too cheap to buy the bags and extra grain for every batch!! Plus skipping a sparge feels like a crime to me. Yea yea I know....you pour hot water over the bag, but we all know that's not doing much extraction, just makes you feel a little better about wasting grain. Combo's ultra was the shit by the way.... fucking loved killer instinct SNES. ULTRA, ULTRA ULTRA.......

    Video idea. Put the Foundry to the "all in one system" test. One I wanted to do but never have time. After chilling wort. Just use it as a fermenter.

      Yeah you can definetely BIAB with the foundry. I'd just start it with all 7 gallons of water at strike. Cheers Maso!

      I know BIAB with the foundry. I'm saying after chilling wort. No transfer to fermenter . Put airlock where the circulating arm goes. Clamp it down. Ferment.
