Everyone getting emotional at Kiryu walking away at the end and rightfully so.. But i also teared up a little when Daigo called Kiryu his father. So in a way Kiryu has been raising two step kids.
I cried more tears at Daigo's scene. Totally the picture of a son who's trying to chase his father's back. Man tears.

If you compare the significance of the steps Haruto and Kiryu takes, Haruto is walking to a normal, bright future as Kiryu is taking steps to ACCEPT leaving them. When Haruto fell in the middle I think it's supposed to mirror the reluctancy Kiryu felt to just walk away

This ending kinda proves my theory that Majima and kiryu represent the same character reacting to similar situations in different ways.
Both lost their brother (tho saejima came back)
Both got kicked out of the yakuza at some point
And in the end, both men walked away to let the person they cared about most be happy.
Both have a similar story, it's just both handled it very differently. Just something interesting I thought of.
It also shows how majima deserves to be shown just as much as kiryu in these games, he’s easily my favourite character and it was a shame he barely had any screen time in this game.
@@UKEDNHAT7 yeah, he's my joint first of 3 with kiryu and akiyama. Thing is, I can't see a place for him in 6 without hurting the best parts of the game. I'd much prefer a game set just after this one about him, saejima and daigo have to deal with his 'death' where we switch between the three as they have to solve the endless yakuza power grabs without kiryu. There's surely got to he a game in that.
Funnily enough....Someya kinda reminded me of majima in a sense if he was selfish and wanted to keep both his lifestyle and his love.......didnt happen with makoto.....park on the other hand
They also fell in love with Koreans (Mirei Park and Kaoru), lose their loved ones who died (Mirei Park and Yumi), and others who went goes outside of Japan (Makoto and Kaoru).
it's, that's why Majima had such interest in Kiryu when they met, he saw those ideals he once followed that ended up being hidden behind the mad dog mask, Kiryu kept going even after losing people that were by his side, while Majima couldn't have anyone to count on and ended up creating that entire persona

I noticed something about Kiryu in this scene and at the end of Yakuza 0. In this fight with Iwami and with the Shibusawa, Kiryu was literally going to kill them. He's down right pissed in both scenes. Both Iwami and Shibusawa are both irredeemable and honor-less scumbags who used and stepped on the backs of others to carve their own path, which is why Kiryu went into both fights with murder on his mind. I even took a look at other final bosses like Nishiki, Ryugi, Mine, Daigo and Aizawa and he never showed this level of anger and contempt for them. Nishiki was his best friend who turned evil but he worked his ass off. Ryugi was Kiryu's greatest rival and fought with honor. Mine just wanted a genuine friend and Kiryu sympathized with that. With Daigo, Kiryu realized he failed to teach Daigo how to be a good chairman. Aizawa was just a rookie who dreamed big; Aizawa was an honorable man and he gave Kiryu one of the hardest fights he's ever had, thus earning his respect. Neither one of them crossed that line, except for Iwami and Shibusawa.
To be fair, Kiryu was still young around the time he fought Shibusawa. When Shibusawa even told him to kill him, he was pretty much trying to manipulate him into going down a dark path. So Shibusawa is a scumbag yes. But since this was a very old and wiser Kiryu who had genuine hate for Iwami, that really says something about Iwami.
Shibusawa might be a snake, but he has age and experience and respect. He respected even Kiryu to a degree, considering he was a family head while Kiryu was still a baby at that point. Iwami on the other hand looks down on everyone and believes he can conquer all of Japan after half.a-plan.
Late but fr, iwami is far worse than shibusawa, a dirty trick kid that pull civilians into a Yakuza fight, can't accept their defeat, had to order sugai to shoot a baby and a 19yo.
I agree but shibusawa is more honorable than iwami at least he had balls to face kiryu and accept his defeat and not hold makoto hostage even though he could've

Kiryu started off as a man who couldn't bear to be apart from Haruka or Haruto. Just look at Yakuza 5 - being away from Haruka was enough to throw him into depression. Then you look at Yakuza 6 in which he literally kidnaps Haruto because he's afraid that he won't have him in his life, that he'd be alone if Haruka doesn't wake up from her coma.
At the end of it all, he learns that he has to let them go if he wants to ensure their safety. A+ character development
He did right thing when kidnapped Haruto cause it was the only choice to guaranty his safety at the moment
It was so warm when Daigo called Kiryu father. Ever since in Yakuza 2,i always feared Daigo may turn his back against Kiryu for his Dojima genes like his corrupted father, but Sega proved me wrong
In 0 with the Daigo missions they really built it that Kiryu looked after Daigo more than his parents did, which helped build up this ending with Daigo.
In Yakuza 4 it is kind of what happened
@@ryan-7358 Daigo made a mistake. I remember he gave up Majima and tried to take all the money, but it was an act of desperation because he didn't know what to do. He didn't betray Kiryu personally, but he was still making a bad choice. Kiryu set him straight. I give Daigo a pass, it's not like Majima holds it against him either.

Date and Akiyama already know each other fairly well, plus Akiyama is a people person, plus who tf would be able to kill Kiryu?

Honestly, the fact that the final boss is so easy symbolizes, just how strong Kiryu actually is, 6-7 pipe blows, punched in the gut, yet he still gets back up and destroys Little Baby Iwami. To show exactly why you _Don't Fu*k with Kazuma Kiryu_

Somehow I think why Kazama wants Kiryu and Nishiki get out of Yakuza....Kiryu still want to quit from Yakuza 1 until 6 either...

In my opinion, the most beautiful, and gut wrenching, moment of this ending and game, hell even series as a whole, is the shot of Haruto walking toward Haruka and before we get to see him make it to his mother, it cuts to Kiryu walking away from Haruka. The girl he raised and was the closest thing he had to a daughter.
A sad but fitting end to the legend of the Dragon of Dojima.... and I would have it no other way

They could have made kiryu die, but they actually make it even heartbreaking to have kiryu seperate himself from haruka and haruto.

Just completed the game. The ending was a rollercoaster of emotions. First i was convinced they had actually killed Kiryu off but the scenes kept coming and finally we see him alive.
It hurts more since Kiryu accepts that he has to be away from Haruka and Haruto for their safety

The best video game series I've ever played. Even through all the fighting, blood, loss of friends and family, and betrayals along with taking haruka, daigo and many other kids in the orphanage under his wing. Kiryu kept going. IMO that makes him one of the best characters in a video game series

I didn't expect for the Daigo scene to hit me as hard as it did. Replaying their substory in Y0 will hit so differently now. And then there's the Haruto/Kiryu scene. Oh man. Bravo, Sega! The Kiryu saga truly is a masterpiece, and this game is one of my favorites in the series. Now I'm ready for Ichiban's story.
I think this is the perfect ending (for now) For Kiryu. Having him leave Haruka and Haruko really is something that I struggled with at first but with the rise of Diago, and Haruka being able to live a normal life after everything she went through; Kiryu when its all said and done raised two successful children. One as a civilian and one as a Yakuza. Its the epitome of Kiryu. He wasn't just a heartless killer, he was someone who's heart was too big for the Yakuza. I think Kiryu is one of the best characters ever created in gaming. I hope if SEGA brings him back they finally give us the happy ending for Kiryu we expect and his character deserves. It would be nice if he went to Taiwan to settle down and then is somehow reconnected with Haruka.

I’m sorry but they ruined the ending here with Yakuza 6 I got emotional when they killed kiryu thinking it was a big step they actually took it there but then to find out he’s not dead he faked his death it just comes off as a cop out if you ask me I had when a series do that.
I just realized Kiryu stepping in to protect Yuta and Haruka resembles Yumi protecting him and Haruka

I just realized when i read what you said here.i remember seen something similar before this game,but don't remember where.who knows it was in the 1st game of Yakuza.
The thing that is kinda brilliant about Iwami as a villain is that he resents his father for not allowing him to be his own man. By fighting him, Kiryu learns that if you genuinely love your kid, you eventually have to let them go on their own OHGODTHEWATERWORKS!!!

Ik I'm late but i think that just what he learned, not that he will need it i think. I mean he always let haruka go for what she want, being an idol, a normal wife. He never really stop her from doing anything but even encourage her to go for what she want. The only thing we know for sure that kiryu learned is that as long as he's still around haruka and everyone that are his friends. They will continue to be a bait for the underworld to get him to show himself.

This game definitely did the best job in the series of making me hate the antagonist with my whole being. Hooooly shit, I could feel the power coursing through my arms and into my DualShock 4

A lot of the other final bosses are pretty sad and fight Kiryu because they have nothing left. But this guy, couldn't feel better about beating him down.

You know. I never really thought about how much Haruka's words were meant for Kiryu, in terms of the story. The reassurance that Kiryu can bring himself to walk away from Haruka as Haruto walks towards her. That final "Hang in there," is how Kiryu is feeling while he walks away. That's got me in tears.

Kiryu will always and forever be the OG Yakuza. Even if he's going to be replaced and his storyline has ended, Kiryu will always have a place in my heart. Although it's truly painful that he has to fake his death in order for Haruka and Haruto to be happy, it's still for the best. They will always remember who he was as a person, despite his flaws. The only thing I feel bad besides the painful goodbye with Haruto and Haruka, is the guilt and burden that Date has to carry, as he's the only one (besides the politician) about Kiryu faking his death.

Haruka's father was in Yakuza 1 and his name is Kyohei Jingu
I like that they didn't straight up kill Kiryu off. It gives him an awesome send off, but there's always going to be the chance that they could bring him back in a future game if they decide to. Also, I believe the devs said they were open to making a game set between Yakuza 0 and 1, so hopefully this isn't the last time we see Kiryu. The series just won't be the same without him.

Not to mention this is middle age Kiryu, who's a lot calmer than previous games.
Iwami is like the first guy in a long time that Kiryu would wholeheartedly cross that line.

This ending was perfect, from how badass it was when Kiryu no longer had to worry about Haruka and was free to beat the crap out of that dude to how heartwarming the letter to Daigo was and the sadness in Haruka’s cries. It was an amazing and very emotional.

Yakuza 6 deserved the GOTY 2018 award (with all the respects to great games like god of War and RDR2), instead it even didn't had a nomination for best narrative.... really sad.

Iwawi is a gutless, honorless, and sly fuck that deserved a fate worse than death. All of the things that had happened was because of him, and he didn't even have the balls to fight Kiryu up-front, and went for the low-as-abyss blow of threatening Haruka and Haruto, when he would have done it anyway.
So, of all Yakuza NPCs, Iwami deserves the most to get his comeuppance for his shit.
Can i just say i love the ending part where Kiryu, in the hospital, in a hospital bed, with very dangerous and almost mortal bullet wounds, threatens one of the most influential man in the entirety of japan. A guy who could call an army. And succeeds. Kiryu is the best
The Name "Kiryu" breaking it down to "ki" and "ryu" ,well, in Japanese, "ki" means" Energy " and "ryu" means "Dragon" ... so his name," kiryu" would mean "Energy of a dragon" ...

Nah his name is actually broken down to Kiri - yuu, there's no kanji for dragon in his name but we can interpret it as a pun for ryuu (dragon).
His name "Kiryu" are from 2 characters: "Kiri"= "paulownia" and "u"= "life". It was made to sound like "Dragon Energy".

Check out Kiwami 2. It’s a smoother and more refined Dragon Engine. I loved Yakuza 6, but the DE was still in its infancy. The frame rate drops drive me crazy. In Kiwami 2, there’s 0 frame rate drop.

Who'd have thought Kiryu's final battle as a main character would be against the CEO of a shipbuilding company?
Damn, that last scene was real deep. One step, two step, then fall. The man didn't appear in the whole scene the kid stood up and gave another try, but we could still see clearly his inner struggles, all from a kid learning to walk.
Love how they introduced Iwami as the CEO of iwami shipbuilding instead of the chairman of Yomei alliance at 7:39, even the developer didnt accept Iwami as the next Takeru kurusu
I believe Iwami won't be as great as Kurusu even if he did became the next chairman. He's so lame even Kiryu look down on him and calling him baby.

6:12 best part of the entire franchise. Kiryu see’s his job is done. He did what Yumi wanted of him and protected Haruka and now he knows it’s not his job anymore. Nothing left to lose. Nothing left to hold him back.

Majima's arc ended with him walking away from a loved one to protect her and with the "death of the Grand Cabaret manager" (of course Kiwami 2 tied up those loose ends)

Just finished Yakuza 6 I’ve never felt so empty after playing a game there’s just nothing that would satisfy me like Kuzuma Kiryu’s journey no matter what he did he always ended up being dragged into something so faking his death to protect his family was the best way to end
Damn ill always remember our memories with kiryu singing karaoke, babysitting a little kid, taking down backstabbers, and getting drunk. Ahhhh good times, good times 😢
I rarely get emotional, but now that I am a father, I understand how heartbreaking the last scene is. Taking care of him in the beginning then leaving him forever at the end. Although sad, it is still a perfect ending.

I thought that letter was for Haruka, I was genuinely surprised to see Kiryu referring to Daigo as his son, but looking back into it, makes sense. It completely went over my head all the father/son experiences they had, even back in Yakuza 0.

I REALLY hope Sega will bring him back and the truth will be uncovered at least for Haruka, Daigo and Majima. Maybe as a sidekick character in Shin Yakuza or its sequel, but they MUST do it. Kiryu has been playing martyr since the events of Zero. He DESERVES to be with his loved ones now.
That defeats the point that they are trying to make.
As long as kiryu is around his loved ones he will always drag them into trouble.
Plus after the ending of 6 it would kinda ruin it bringing him back after all that happened
I mean. It wouldn't make sense. Majima was faced with the same problem with Makoto and he never came back. His life has been shit since then but it is what a real hero would choose. Neither he or Kiryu will back down from it.

Tbh with you toward the end of Y5 Kiryu broke down and asked himself “why does this always happen when I get involved?” I think the chances of him returning as a MP is extremely low.

This game surprised me with how good it was. Reminded me of those good old PS2 days.
If you didn't notice, Kiryu "death" is like Yumi.
Yumi died protecting Haruka and Kiryu by taking a gun shot, while Kiryu "died" protecting Haruka, Haruto, and Yuta by taking a gun shot.
I suppose it's poetic that Daigo decides not to go to war with the Yomei after all, and probably also strategic. As the bigger clan and with the grudge that they're forgiving, the 'equals' pact will probably still have the Tojo coming out with the bigger slice of the pie.
That said, it's a bit of a shame we don't get to see Majima and Saejima fucking up some Okinawa goons. If they thought just 1 of Kiryu was tough, they have another thing coming with this problem marching on the Yomei.
I think a lot of people are piling on Iwami and calling him a bad character because he's so loathsome. I'd argue that was deliberate. He is nothing like previous foils, there is no greater moral code, he doesn't redeem himself in any fashion. To the end, even after being beaten he wants Haruka shot, after begging for mercy. He is for me the perfect antithesis of everything Kiryu stands for, in way that Jingu was, but more fleshed out. Even opponents who didn't repent at the end showed a degree of honor, but not Iwami. For me it's powerful because he's the inverse of Kiryu, a monster who wants to be a man, Iwami is a man who wants to be a monster.

Nah he'd be the same as Ryuji and its perfect at how simplistic it is. Maybe more health and another phase but no weapon. (That and the emphasis on weapons is a lot less than other entries so doubt most people would be able to counter a sword with him being that fast and erratic).
The point of the fight was not so it could be a challenge. Though it could be. It was to place it firmly in the story. Iwami had to result to tricks to even attack kiryu without fear. But it all crumpled once Kiryu was unchained. Iwami is nothing to Kiryu as the mission discription says

While Im glad to know haruka and her family will be safe, i HATE it that it came at the price of kiryu never seeing them again. Seriously, the man has been through enough 😥
I absolutely love that Nagumo came alone for the very end, solely because Kiryu fought for the woman he loved. Kiryu was ready to kill or die for the girl his friend loved, and Nagumo was ready to kill or die for Kiryu's daughter. The game ended way more beautifully than it had any right to.

Jeez I’m on the last few chapters of Yakuza Kiwami 2 and I can honestly see how old Kiryu actually looks in Yakuza 6(face texture, tiny wrinkles) compared to the first few Yakuza games, he really been through lot of fights and life problems, what a great game
