Randy has become my goto person for audiophile reviews. Right now, I just can't afford $1000 dollar speakers. Meanwhile, all these really awesome speakers for a few hundred dollars are grand slamming out of the ballpark!
I appreciate the shout out for people just getting into Hi-Fi and the reassurance that we will like how it sounds. So many UA-cam videos for speakers/systems are geared towards audiophiles and I'm just trying to make an educated purchase as non-audiophile. I've been using a Sony DAV-FR8 for 20 years, so I'm sure these will be fine.
I just picked up a pair of these last week for $126 for my gaming setup. I have had the jamo c93's in my living room for 2yrs. I love those speakers. My wife liked the look of the s803, so I ended up swapping the s803 to the living room and now have the c93's in my gaming room and have no regrets. Sold polk s15s for the s803 and also, no regrets.
Got these for my desk on sale for $139 and while there a little large I love them! Only like $30 more than my wife's edifier! Paired perfect with fosi audio Amp with treble and bass turned up all the way on amp.
Cheap out! Good Stuff! I picked up some Elac Debut B6 first generation. And let me tell you, NOTHING, NOTHING can touch these for $229 a pair (unfortunately, now, $249). Phenomenal bass performance for a smallish two way, super wide sound stage, sound good a lower volumes. Sure, not the flattest response, but WOW they sound BIG and lot BIGGER than they are. For sheer force and volume, I defy any other speaker in that price bracket to compete. Very impressive. I also have the B6.2, a very DIFFERENT speaker. More audiophile, flatter, but doesn't have that FUN factor the cheaper brothers do. I really think Elac should have kept the B6 in their line for folks who like that flavor of sound. Because if that's your taste, these are IT!
They’re cool. I think they’re really being blown out on sales. Really all the Jamo stuff is. I hope that means there’s a new crop of products coming in
I had sold my coworker a pair of these S803's a yr ago, which he really liked, but last week decided to replace them with the higher-end C 93 II's. His only gripe with the 803's were they weren't reaching low enough, so thus wanted an upgrade. So far he's happy with the C93 II's : D
Ohhhh man, just got these for 150 dollars and a sub and some other goodies. Upgrading from bose companion 2 series iii that i snagged for 65$ years ago, basically no experience with super high end audio outside of cars, so im really excited to give it a shot. Its gonna be great.... great review man apreciate the knowledge and opinions from a bonafide audiophile, seems i made a choice, cheers! 👍
I actually would not be surprised if Louie Vuitton made garbage bags. Disappointed? Yes. Surprised? No. Also, I mentioned it before, these are (to me) good-looking speakers. Glad to know they sound good too!
Bought the S803 HCS about a month ago. Already had the S807 towers. Added the center and S801s to the towers in my living room for a 5.2 hooked up to an Onkyo RZ820. Sound and look nice for a basic setup. The S803 I took to my theater room. Dual purpose out there - rear surrounds and occasionally two channel music (definitely need to be careful moving this line of speakers...the ports are not handles). Anyway I really enjoyed the S803 in two channel. I am not a critical listener by any means, so that falls in line with his assessment. I was powering them with a Crown Xli1500 from my X4700h and turned up loud. Not fatiguing at all to me over an hour and a half. Love them.
Hi Randy, I bought these speakers, actually the 5.1 and a Jamo 10 inch subwoofer based on your review and Andrew Robinson's (They don't actually suck). Some before me have suggested that the base is a bit fuzzy and I'd agree and I fixed that by using the 100 Hz cut off on the Onkyo receiver and that worked well as those deep bases got sent to the subwoofer. I think these speakers do a great job of anything with a quiet sound stage like a jazz quartet (Miles Davis "Kind of Blue") or an acoustic set for example (Jerry Douglas, a miced recording of "From Ankara to Izmir", the double bass is amazing and low). They do not handle heavy complex loud music quite as well (Metallica) but orchestral work wasn't bad at all. Where I think they have succeeded is when used as a movie theater sound system in 5.1. which was my main reason for buying them to go with my VAVA 4k UST projector. They do an amazing job IMO. On one episode of Bosch the helicopter was right over my head, center channel was excellent for movie dialog. For a total system under $400 I think this set up was incredible value for money. My main go to system in my living space is always with my 1976 KEF Concertos which I still love. The Jamo's are not KEF's but they do a great job. BTW how do you feel about All Surround Stereo out of your Onkyo on a 5.1. I use it in the main family room and love it, in a room that is not acoustically optimum at all, and it gets stereo separation in all places in the room but it's not confusing, you feel you are in the middle of the band. My audio buddies think I'm crazy enjoying this. What say you?

Front ported so these can actually go in a book shelf. 5 & 1/4" woofer cone is enough for no need for sub. Soft dome tweeter is a surprise when done well. Nice wave guide design proliferates sound further. Rubber surround ensures nice response and durability. Magnetic grilles is just nice. Nice offerring at fair price.
I just tried the Jamo S 803s as a pair, and as part of Jamo's 5.0 system (two S 803s, two s 801s, and the center S 81 CEN). I auditioned them alongside Klipsch R-51m and the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelves. These were driven through 1) a Sony STR-DH590 receiver, and 2) optical out from a computer with a high-quality audio motherboard. The Klipsch sounded muscular, rich, and fun. However, slightly fatiguing. I found myself playing with the volume a lot. I'd want more 'fun' then I'd turn it up... then after 10-30 minutes my ears would start hurting slightly and I'd turn it down. Still, I enjoy them. The Pioneers sounded smooth and balanced but the bass is weaker, probably due to smaller drivers than the R-51Ms. I can listen to them for hours with no problems. The Jamos sounded disappointingly thin. They're dynamic like the Klipsch's but midrange sounded very recessed and the highs too pronounced. I heard almost static at the top end without feeling like I was necessarily hearing more top-end detail. This descriptor is a little harsh but the word 'tinny' came to mind. I really wanted to like the Jamos because they look great and the price of the 5.0 system is so low - but I tried them nearfield on my computer desk, in pairs in a medium room, in the 5.0 config, and as 5.1 with a Klipsch sub. I couldn't bring myself to do much more than tolerate them. Despite being more expensive, I had much more fun listening to the Klipsch, and felt much more content listening to the Pioneers. I ended up returning the Jamos and I've decided to try the JBL Stage A170 towers instead.
I have had these for 3 years. I liked them initially as a work bench speaker with classic rock, but they always felt strained, or forced at louder levels. These were the nail in the coffin of me ever trying less than a 6.5" woofer again. I knew that when I got them, and these confirmed it.
@@trauma50disaster1 Multiple amps, including a 160W Denon AVR and an icepower 200ASC, and my pioneer SA 8500. I just have better/larger speakers than these is all. I'm just not a small speaker guy. My JBL S38 just trounce these in every way. I come from a time when displacement ruled the days. It's hard to go backwards. I have a 12" set I am using for near field monitors along with two 12" subs, FTW.
Randy, this is Randy. I have returned to your channel and I am enjoying the new professional experience. I am currently using a white pair of S803s for the front channels and a BIC DV62CLR for my center channel. My son used a marker on my white Jamo speakers when I was outside working on my car one day and I discovered that an eraser advertised by a bald cartoon gentleman that goes by the first name of Mister removed the dark blue marker without damaging the finish! Please do take a look at the BIC DV84 tower speakers and let us know what you think of them. Thank you for your time.
I use Jamo S803 fronts with S 8 ATM Atmos Modules, an S 83 Center, and S801 Rears driven by my AVR-S950H with dual SVS SB-3000s. Sounds quite good for my bedroom. I chose these speakers because the didn't cost as much as my SVS Primes in my other systems in my family room and basement. I am going to give this system to my daughter (minus the subs) later this year but I am enjoying them until then.

These are fun speakers for younger people....front port means placement anywhere.....boosted bass and treble is what these kids nowadays for their music. Personally I would lower the treble, enhance the midrange and leave the bass as is, but that is an oversimplification. The walnut pair is selling for $99 at "Mamason"
I just ordered the Jamo S801s last night, got them for $90. If they don't sound good, then I'm blaming you. Lol. I actually wanted the Sony SSCS5 speakers but I missed the black Friday deal on those, thinking that the girlfriend ordered them for me.
I have a Music Hall MM 2.2 turntable w/ Jamo S 803's & vintage Jamo Art Deco 510 wall speakers driven by a Onkyo P3150 & M-5150. I think the sound is great with the right amount of bass & treble, in a medium sized room. Connected my tv with a digital to analog adapter as well as a Bluetooth adapter. Movie nights have that theater sound experience, and love listening to my vinyl records while working from home during the pandemic. Is it the best system out there? Probably not. But I argue it's the best system under $500, which is what I paid to put everything together.
Thank you for the excellent review. You have noted what other reviewers have picked up on, the unnatural “U” output curve. This was not a mistake or accident, the designers did this because most people are not critical listeners and most likely they would prefer this on casual listening. But for someone wanting an inexpensive reference speaker, it would be ideal if a crossover guru were to develop an aftermarket replacement crossover to convert these to a poor man’s reference speaker with flat response. Anyone?
I'm getting the white. For a long time , the white was not available in US...I didn't know they they were in stock until watching these videos this week! You can als ovinyl them yourself, pretty cheap and easy and the vinyl these days are soo gud! Vinyl it in Ferrari red?
This may sound odd, but I though about picking up the 5 channel set. My end goal is to go for a 5.2.4 system. So I was thinking about grabbing 2 sets. They are on sale for $147 right now. Use the smaller speakers for the height. My question is, could I wire the 2 center channel speakers together since I would have 2 of them?
Try and review the BIC America Formula series speakers. For example Formula F12 sub, Formula FH-65B and the Formula FH6-LCR. Also the BIC America FH56-BAR, which is like a sound bar but its not powered. There's also the in wall speaker FH8-W and ceiling speaker Formula FH-6C. There is also the tower FT-6T. They also have their Acoustech Platinum series.
The dayton audio mk402x is twice the speaker and half the price. I returned these jamos they look great but i only listen at loud levels ... if only they sound as good as they look. More speaker reviews please , your making other reviewers look like amateurs
Thank you for doing a review on these speakers! Back in december I asked for a review because I liked my old Jamo 68 better than these, but they grew on me and I really like them now. In my opinion you definitely need a sub though, I have the Jamo J10 and while it's not the best sub it still makes these sound a LOT better. Cheers!
Nice review..on point - sharp, like laser sharp, TY.. JAMO game is on. I’m going to buy for my brother.. I have a set of the Elac B.6. Something.: ! the second round engineered by Jones.. The B 2nd Gen are outstanding for my listening needs, pleasure, my ear grooves with the sound. Found them at a Good price from E-America. Good price is nonexistent today so going to gift the JAMO instead.. Thank you for the detailed but super tight A++ best info in a time frame I can honestly say I’ve ever heard. No bs, just good information from the type of guy most Americans would agree wanted at a house party in HS and University.

Randy, what about reviewing active/powered speakers? I own pairs by Audioengine and Kanto but Edifier also makes a number of powered/active speakers too. As the amp is included it would allow for more wiggle room in the price too
@randy would u recommend these for rear surround speakers? I have the Jamo c 93 ii coming and will use for front right and left channels, I have the Jamo c 93 ii center coming for center channel. I happen to have the Jamo S803 already here,.I got them for free through a points award system at work. I have been contemplating selling them and getting the Jamo 93 ii surround speakers as they are diopter (sp?) Style speakers but never had any experience with them. As a matter of fact, I think you should do a review on that style speaker. Your channel is great especially the fake sponsor bit is classic l.
Can you try the vanatoo T1 Encore please! While it is 600 dollars a pair the it has a dac, amp, and has the same feature as the emotiva sub you reviewed. In my opinion it is a very good bang for your buck, and I think you would really enjoy their sound! Edit: I think the crossover for the sub out is 80hz, and stops the speakers from playing bellow 80hz.
i don't trust the quality of spkrs that have such a wide swing in pricing, like Jamo and the Sony bookshelves. it's true i haven't heard neither, just speaking from experience.
I have the Klipsch RP6000f and RP250c center, in your opinion if I bought the 5 speaker combo on amazon and used the bookshelves for surrounds and surround backs would it work great together or would it sound weird? Think of it like my 6000s as bigger 600m's. If so then I will pick that up right way and just sell the center for little to nothing on market place. If not I'll look into the 62ii's or 600m's for surrounds. I just wanted to save some cash for more important things in my system like $5,000 foam drink coasters so the coffee mug is decoupled from the end table. You know, just the usual essentials.

@@cheapaudioman I recently bought the Klipsch R-52C because I already had the R-51M and because of budget reasons. I did consider Jamo but the space saving of the Prime Satellite is appealing. When budget allows me I want to combine the Prime Center with the Prime Satellites.
Keep in mind, the 5 channel system at 229 is the same price as the center channel elac, center channel klipsch, and 70$ more than the sony center channel. This has to be the best value speaker since the pioneer spbs22lr was steadily priced at 80 a set of two and 80 for the center. Making it the same cost as these, all while being a midrange beast.

Looks like Klipsch went after the new Elac Debut speakers. almost the same. I've got the Elacs and the Sony's and the 600m's. And yes...I use a sub with all of them. What you said about the sound for those up top. Yep, you'll get used to them...Do like me and buy at least 3 different sets of speakers and swap em out once a week for a different sound. Kinda like swappin out your wife...cos right now...My wife is chasing me around the house in anger for buying 3 different sets of speakers...It's all his fault...The guy up top...Thanks Cheapaudioman.

They look a lot like my Kanto Tuk's, except they have an AMT tweeter instead of a soft dome

These are fun speakers for younger people....front port means placement anywhere.....boosted bass and treble is what these kids nowadays for their music. Personally I would lower the treble, enhance the midrange and leave the bass as is, but that is an oversimplification. The walnut pair is selling for $99 at "Mamason"

I just ordered the Jamo S801s last night, got them for $90. If they don't sound good, then I'm blaming you. Lol. I actually wanted the Sony SSCS5 speakers but I missed the black Friday deal on those, thinking that the girlfriend ordered them for me.

I have a Music Hall MM 2.2 turntable w/ Jamo S 803's & vintage Jamo Art Deco 510 wall speakers driven by a Onkyo P3150 & M-5150. I think the sound is great with the right amount of bass & treble, in a medium sized room. Connected my tv with a digital to analog adapter as well as a Bluetooth adapter. Movie nights have that theater sound experience, and love listening to my vinyl records while working from home during the pandemic. Is it the best system out there? Probably not. But I argue it's the best system under $500, which is what I paid to put everything together.

prices are crazy, these were being sold for $126 a week ago but the inside quality, not ideal, does not take long for the vinyl to peel.

Thank you for the excellent review. You have noted what other reviewers have picked up on, the unnatural “U” output curve. This was not a mistake or accident, the designers did this because most people are not critical listeners and most likely they would prefer this on casual listening. But for someone wanting an inexpensive reference speaker, it would be ideal if a crossover guru were to develop an aftermarket replacement crossover to convert these to a poor man’s reference speaker with flat response. Anyone?
I'm getting the white. For a long time , the white was not available in US...I didn't know they they were in stock until watching these videos this week! You can als ovinyl them yourself, pretty cheap and easy and the vinyl these days are soo gud! Vinyl it in Ferrari red?

Just picked these up for $115, new, and shipped from adorama.
1 year update: they are STILL my 2 channel/desktop solution. Being driven by a Yamaha natural sound receiver @ 85watts
This may sound odd, but I though about picking up the 5 channel set. My end goal is to go for a 5.2.4 system. So I was thinking about grabbing 2 sets. They are on sale for $147 right now. Use the smaller speakers for the height. My question is, could I wire the 2 center channel speakers together since I would have 2 of them?
Try and review the BIC America Formula series speakers. For example Formula F12 sub, Formula FH-65B and the Formula FH6-LCR. Also the BIC America FH56-BAR, which is like a sound bar but its not powered. There's also the in wall speaker FH8-W and ceiling speaker Formula FH-6C. There is also the tower FT-6T. They also have their Acoustech Platinum series.

The dayton audio mk402x is twice the speaker and half the price. I returned these jamos they look great but i only listen at loud levels ... if only they sound as good as they look. More speaker reviews please , your making other reviewers look like amateurs

And 11 months later the jamo 5 speaker system is $189 I paid $239 still no regrets buy it you can part it out for more if it's not your preference.
Thank you for doing a review on these speakers! Back in december I asked for a review because I liked my old Jamo 68 better than these, but they grew on me and I really like them now. In my opinion you definitely need a sub though, I have the Jamo J10 and while it's not the best sub it still makes these sound a LOT better. Cheers!

I have a set of the Elac B.6. Something.: ! the second round engineered by Jones.. The B 2nd Gen are outstanding for my listening needs, pleasure, my ear grooves with the sound. Found them at a Good price from E-America. Good price is nonexistent today so going to gift the JAMO instead..
Thank you for the detailed but super tight A++ best info in a time frame I can honestly say I’ve ever heard. No bs, just good information from the type of guy most Americans would agree wanted at a house party in HS and University.

Ii just bought them (in S805 Set) in Germany for my Onkyo Tx-SR 444 and they sound very good. I will also buy the Atmos Module for them.
I first preferred the Concert C93, but , in my Case, they became fatiguing after a While.

Randy, what about reviewing active/powered speakers? I own pairs by Audioengine and Kanto but Edifier also makes a number of powered/active speakers too. As the amp is included it would allow for more wiggle room in the price too

@randy would u recommend these for rear surround speakers? I have the Jamo c 93 ii coming and will use for front right and left channels, I have the Jamo c 93 ii center coming for center channel. I happen to have the Jamo S803 already here,.I got them for free through a points award system at work. I have been contemplating selling them and getting the Jamo 93 ii surround speakers as they are diopter (sp?) Style speakers but never had any experience with them. As a matter of fact, I think you should do a review on that style speaker. Your channel is great especially the fake sponsor bit is classic l.
Can't you compensate for the u-shape with the receivers computerized equalizer?
Perhaps this speaker would enjoy a 70s Marantz receiver with midrange tone control.
What's the best priced receiver to get the most out of these speakers?
Can you try the vanatoo T1 Encore please! While it is 600 dollars a pair the it has a dac, amp, and has the same feature as the emotiva sub you reviewed. In my opinion it is a very good bang for your buck, and I think you would really enjoy their sound!
Edit: I think the crossover for the sub out is 80hz, and stops the speakers from playing bellow 80hz.
i don't trust the quality of spkrs that have such a wide swing in pricing, like Jamo and the Sony bookshelves. it's true i haven't heard neither, just speaking from experience.
Good for desktop computer usage or would the 801 be more appropriate?
I have the Klipsch RP6000f and RP250c center, in your opinion if I bought the 5 speaker combo on amazon and used the bookshelves for surrounds and surround backs would it work great together or would it sound weird? Think of it like my 6000s as bigger 600m's. If so then I will pick that up right way and just sell the center for little to nothing on market place. If not I'll look into the 62ii's or 600m's for surrounds. I just wanted to save some cash for more important things in my system like $5,000 foam drink coasters so the coffee mug is decoupled from the end table. You know, just the usual essentials.

How do they compare to the SVS Prime Satellites?

@@cheapaudioman I recently bought the Klipsch R-52C because I already had the R-51M and because of budget reasons. I did consider Jamo but the space saving of the Prime Satellite is appealing. When budget allows me I want to combine the Prime Center with the Prime Satellites.

Keep in mind, the 5 channel system at 229 is the same price as the center channel elac, center channel klipsch, and 70$ more than the sony center channel.
This has to be the best value speaker since the pioneer spbs22lr was steadily priced at 80 a set of two and 80 for the center. Making it the same cost as these, all while being a midrange beast.
what would you use to power the 5 channel system ? any slim / cheap reccomendations?

Buy a Sony, onkyo, or pioneer for best value. They are all pretty much the same size.

Looks like Klipsch went after the new Elac Debut speakers. almost the same. I've got the Elacs and the Sony's and the 600m's. And yes...I use a sub with all of them. What you said about the sound for those up top. Yep, you'll get used to them...Do like me and buy at least 3 different sets of speakers and swap em out once a week for a different sound. Kinda like swappin out your wife...cos right now...My wife is chasing me around the house in anger for buying 3 different sets of speakers...It's all his fault...The guy up top...Thanks Cheapaudioman.
