    I can't begin to describe these. I have owned them for two years and I just am done upgrading. They are perfect for me. They bring their magic when I sit down to listen. I have been thrilled since the day I set them up. They will fill a decent-sized space without issue. Their only shortcoming is that they do loud and low bass, Just not both at the same time, but it has never been an issue for me though. They just sound right to my ears :)

    I have these on my desk on Kanto SP-9 stands. I felt having the tweeters at ear level made them sound a bit better. Also, the Kanto stands are phenomenal. Also have these paired with a PSB SubSonic 6i subwoofer (because bass) driven by a Lepai 2020A. Loud, crisp and very enjoyable.

    I have had a pair of these on my desktop for two years now. I think you really brought a great analysis here. Somebody designed these and it shows. They deliver a rich, engineered sound from a small form factor that's just right for a small space. I agree that the detail is not fully present in the higher frequencies. These speakers do like power. When driven hard, the detail in the upper frequencies improves. These are very enjoyable for near field listening at the desk. I like how you really describe the sound characteristics of the speakers that you review, pointing out it can be pleasing to acquire a few pair of affordable bookshelf speakers, putting them into a listening rotation to enjoy the sound signature of each pair. Thanks for your review.

    It was a treat to see you review these... You did an excellent job describing how they sound, great job Randy! I have fronts and a matching center in my home theater (medium sized room), also a pair on my desk in my bedroom. They really shine with a sub. I was able to turn the LFE crossover waaaaaaaay down (like 40-50htz) with these, and after playing with the EQ ended up with extremely clean, robust low-end bass that added an incredible amount of depth and clarity to their sound. Great little speakers, I love them. Now if they'd just come out with a 5.25" or 6.5" version... that could be really interesting.

    Spot on review- thank you! I got a pair of these one week ago for my living room TV because, for spousal approval, they HAD to be small. We don’t listen loud, either- usually conversation level- so, even though these are in a big room, they still sound fantastic for our needs. It took some playing around with the EQ but I did get the higher frequencies to sound more balanced.
    I was convinced I would need to find a small subwoofer but these have really impressed me- the bass output is remarkable for day to day listening. For home theater, though, you’re right- these are capable but I don’t think they’d quite cut it. I prefer my SS-CS5’s for home theater.

    So wonderful to hear your take on these RandALL! : ) You definitely added nuances that others have not touched on UA-cam. :) IMO, I think you are spot on but I will add I use a pair of these in one of my rooms that is approx. 18' X 15' and I think they still do a very good job; even with movies. You absolutely nailed it on the head when mentioning how these little tanks can suprise you out of nowhere when casually listening. There have been many a time when watching a movie through my 2.0 set-up that these things gave my seating position some tight "rumble". Even though they are a pretty even sounding speaker, I think their bass and rolled off highs qualifies them as a fun speaker too; especially at loud levels. If I may suggest, try these speakers up on high stands; it seems to bring more detail and authority out of them in larger rooms for me.

    Was up, Randy? Always enjoyed your relative audio naievity, as I've watched you grow and learn. Doing good work, now for lots of interested audiophiles. Thank You. I bought a pr of Micca RB-42 two months ago. My set-up is all digital from cell-phone TIDAL stream. Through Audioquest 'Tower' interco nnect, to an Emotiva BasX-100 amplifier, out to a pair of DaytonAudio 8", 80 watt self powered subs, then through Audioquest cable to the Miccas. They are mounted on sand-filled 32" metal stands. I have a Hidiz S-9 Pro DAC, inserted between cell source and amp, using Audioquest Tower interconnect. Small room, 10 x 15 extended into a hallway. After a short breakin, I was really impressed with the overall sound. You will need power though, efficient they aren't. My system at around 100 watts gets it done . . . Very pleased, for 140 bucks.

    • @kozmiczian
      @kozmiczian 10 місяців тому

      btw . . . I added a high pass filter, x-over at 100hz, between powered subs and Miccas, cleans up mids, when cranking . . . mid-bass on Miccas doesn't have to shake so hard to reproduce under 100hz . . . as subs low pass is 140hz blending well. Next, replacing some x-over elements w/ audio grade.

They were amazing little speakers. If I sat on my couch I wouldn't have believed these little speakers could put out that much sound and bass. I'd recommend these to anyone as a high end starter speaker, probably the best speaker at twice the money. If you already have the Micca RB42's, then there is no upgrade near this price range that will fit a normal desk setup, and give you a flat response that reaches down to 40Hz (30Hz at -6db is rare outside of 8" woofers). I streamed. a lot of differences between streaming and cd's are due to the dac that is used. I used two different dacs and streamers. there were some differences but not enough that it affected the overall sound of the speakers. amps are actually going to have more of an impact on the sound than the dacs but they both contribute.

      @cheapaudioman  3 роки тому +2

      Hey, Vishal! Thanks so much for watching. I really like the Jamo 801's as well. The Micca's have a flatter frequency response and not as much "excitement" on top as the Jamos. Jamos are more emphasized on the top and the bottom where the miccas are popped up on the bottom some more. They're both great. The mids are better on the miccas but the jamos soundstage and image better. ultimately, up to what you're looking for. they're both great and I think the jamos go on sale or as part of their 5 channel setup.

    You mention a lot of generally good things about the bass of the speaker, if you were to throw down a bass oriented rap album would you feel like a subwoofer is missing? or that its just not worth even turning on? I am curious because it is hard to imagine well pronouncing well staging decent hz bass from a 4"woofer.

    I saw some of your recommendations on other speakers in other price ranges. My problem is size, my wife has an almost filled up entertainment center that she will never change. I just acquired a vintage Marantz receiver Model 22. I want some small speakers that I can hook up to for radio and some TV. The speaker will be pushed about 6" so the front will be even with the shelf but most of the speaker will be tucked in. When I say small speakers I mean about the same size as the RB's, like about 9" H and about 5" W. Any suggestions that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

    I realize you posted this video 3 years ago but I'm curious, do you have a recommendation for an AMP that will do 5.1 with 5 of these RB42s and push 150-200w /channel with 2 sub outs? Any ideas on how to do a setup like that? Actually, the center channel is the double RB to match the 42s, but yeah, 4ohm with power? I'm currently running them off a Yamaha RX-V667 and they go loud but not loud enough all the time if you have parties and want more power and then the amp clips cause the speakers are sucking everything out of it that it can provide.
    I think for gaming these speakers have the most natural sounding environments, they just feel so good and natural.
    Do you have any solutions for a 150W+ 5 channel setup without using pre-outs and discreet and upping the cost.
