Patrice was one of the few women at the time that did it all. A master jazz musician. She fused jazz, r&b and funk into a signature sound.
Jazz fans hated when it seemed as though Patrice Rushen had abandoned the genre a few years prior.

@@AEMoreira81 I have no time for jazz snobs. I love jazz, and I also love it when someone crosses over across genres to connect jazz to rock and r and b and hip hop and metal. I've always had a heavy jazz influence and I've played metal, rock, prog, etc. Music is music. If it's good I dig it.
Patrice is a genius for sure. Another brilliant female artist around the time this came out was Lesette Wilson, also a jazz pianist and still producing music today.

She is a phenomenal musician and didn’t want to be part of Prince’s trophy case. I totally respect her.

This gem just got a reboot by a chap named Alan Fitzpatrick, UK techno producer, but he just gave it a bit of 2020's uptempo beat and kept most of the original. Great rework, and does wonders on the dancefloor!

The strings (violins, cello's) in the intro are just gorgeous! Sadly by 1981 or so, stringed instruments fell by the wayside in most pop music.

The musicians and singers of the 50s through the 80s were truly multi-talented. It didn't matter whether they were black, white latino, whatever. The talent was revealed in the quality of their output. You didn't have to look hard at all to find good music in the past, because it was all over place.

I've bought and sold a lot of records over the years, the 12" with this as the B side of Forget Me Nots is in the "stone cold classic, never sell" pile forever.
Come in the club, everybody is up on the floor to the long version, and didn't sit down until it was over. Dancing by myself now, and still aint sitting down til it's over! Thanks for posting!

Sitting reminiscing about my uncles and aunties, extended family, the record player, laughter and fun times. This was the late 70s, everything and everyone was cohesive and full of love. Some of those loved ones are gone, or advanced in age now. The memories and the soundtracks are still here. If you weren't a kid in the 1970s you wouldn't understand. #LoveMyGeneration
