      Considering that Disney went and ruined 3 Star Wars movies and several characters from the original trilogy and sequel trilogy in the span of less than 10 years, that's way worse than anything EA did. They published 2 Battlefront games with the second one being much better in every way even with it's rough launch, they also published one of the best single player games of 2019 so I'm not gonna complain.

The sorry state of companies like EA and Ubisoft is one thing, but thankfully their collapse has coincided with a real golden age - the rise of dozens of excellent "indie" developers.
      There's never been a better time for gaming in many ways imo, we just have to look a bit harder sometimes, and less at familiar old franchises. Seeing Battlefield faceplant so hard was tough for me, but I had the good sense not to buy it, there are other worthy games out there old and new.

      here's what happens: a game is horrible and it's no longer worth investing resources into it as it's not going to be profitable so they cut any mechanic that is still in the oven, run the press releases to convince casuals to buy it (In Hogwarts Legacy's case, they brought up some old JK Rowling tweets and manufactured a boycott that never existed. Point in case: sold nearly as well as CDPR that was hyped through the roof but had a press embargo), release it broken enough to not burn the company down, crossing their fingers that CrowBCat doesn't care enough to remind you of all the promises they made, then do bug fixes enough to "restore the company's reputation", then abandon it. After the 6 months patch, CDPR showed their resources graph: only 10% of the company was still on Cyberpunk, rest had already moved on even though it took nearly 2 years to finish fully fixing it.

    The main issue with Fallout 76 is the level of microtransactions there, especially after Bethesda broke their promise of having only cosmetic microtransactions. The worst point was Fallout First, which included multiple extras that should’ve been in the game at launch, but said extras were locked behind a highly priced subscription paywall.

    • @Stinkyremy
      @Stinkyremy Рік тому +1

      What they did with Fo76 is smart, because they did exactly what zenimax did with ESO.
      So for a bit of back story ESO (elder scrolls online) launched with a subscription, which if you know MMOs it is the perfect model simply as it dissuaded botting, hacking etc.
      The game was marketed as "no pay gates ever, that is why we are going with a subscription model"
      Shortly after that lootboxes became common, ESO dropped the sub, let the cancer in, added lootbox gambling and did paid cosmetics etc and major and minor DLCs, which they had eventually ramped up to 3 a year.
      Or you can sub and get all DLC for free except the new years chapter (larger DLC)
      Anyway here is the caveat, ESO plus, the sub has 1 thing that any serious ESO player "needs" to have a good time. A crafting bag where you can infinitely hold crafting materials.
      Seeing you get so much materials and always need materials, without this crafting bag you will be havomg to be doing inventory management every 10 mins, horde materials for gear and to sell etc.
      the crafting bag is locked to the subscription, no way to buy it without the sub.
      So with FO76 they basically did the same but doubled down where you can barely store any crafting materials unless you have fallout firsts version of teh crafting bag where you can store infinite amount, so without it if you needed to craft stuff you would have to go out and grind to find stuff.
      It is sneaky, they dont even let you hold much money in FO76 either so you cannot just buy your way out of this issue with in game money.

      Fallout First was $100, like WHAT!? I was one of the few the only played the free version of the game JUST to see and experience the bugs and glitched and laugh at it and make my own fun. I did have fun and also there WERE times the game literally fucked me because of the stuff around it. Spawning enemies on top of you, levels ahead because your friend is also a free version player, but they are a grinder, unlike you (me). Emptying whole mags into radroaches and they just soak it up, wasting ammo (well pipe weapons but you get the point). I'm not exactly a fan of the VATS but it's alright for a new take on the idea. F the NV one jeeze louise. The DLC was pretty fun, it added a bow and arrow, like hell yes hunter/killer mode activated. THAT'S All I did was play with the bow and arrow, I got to pretty high level, like 30-40's range and then I just straight up quit, I got bored and tired of the survival aspects like the eating and drinking and I had ALL of the perk cards and stackable ones that reduced them, as much as possible. I did my research into that, so I never had to deal with it, that was the idea at least. Well, it ended up becoming too much a problem to deal with all the time so I quit playing, I can't remember if I deleted my character or not, but still, I don't think I'm ever coming back to that game ever again. I've had my fun and experienced the game for what it has to offer and then some, and it was still quite not enough Fallout for me. Thanks anyways Todd, I guess you did try, that's what counts, it was just not good enough for your Fallout "Masterpiece" game. What a load of schlock AND the economy is terrible in game, AS IS the player vendors are a gouging business. They are supposed to be there the mitigate the loss of caps at robot highwaymen, Todd put into the game. F that noise I'd rather do make stims or find them, that's easier because there is scrounger perks and crap like that and then the reduction of weight of certain items and what not. I played it on and off for like two years and when it got to the "game board" thing, I knew that was the end of the line for me on continuing and further in the future. Bessy is best Moo-bot.

      The game now is pretty solid.
      The problem is that people just want to take and keep everything piece of junk and weapon. What you have to do is, You have to sell or only collect stuff you need and then not collect stuff you won’t need. It’s a hard concept to rap your head around as a fallout player if you don’t already have an idea of what you are doing.
      The current state of fallout 76 is pretty good. The events ingame offers enough of the rarer resources so that you don’t really have to go out of your way to “grind” resources that much.
      The hardest part to the grind is getting the perfect set of legendary effects on all weapons and gear. The player has to accept that it’s likely not 100% possible. And I think ppl have trouble distinguishing what their greedy mind wants and then what is feasible to work towards.
      Ever seen one of those people that measures their food and tracks how much protein and carbs they take in with a weight scale? Well, this is kinda how you have to play without a subscription. It’s kinda similar to No Man Sky in that you make your own resource limits. You’d have to manage how much of a particular resource you need (in NMS you wouldn’t want to fill up on too much of a resource you don’t need because it would take a inventory slot you can’t afford to spare). (But resources are definitely not used and consumed in the way NMS does).
      And then a subscription is being able to eat anything you want as much as you want… lol.

    Just noticed that pretty much any release of a big MMO had controversy. Anyway good video!

    • @standard7272
      @standard7272 Рік тому +1

      MMOs are, and we have to be honest about this, somewhat a niche in the gaming world. Most gamers will be found in the FPS or eSports sector.
      So you have to work with a small part of the gamer base, most of which have already found their "forever" MMO, and convince them to play your MMO over the others, and invest time and money ( base price + potential subscription). It needs to keep you engaged with the world or aspects of the world.
      The best way to do that, would be to innovate and offer something unique, which is very risky, and difficult to accomplish. If they were to do the same thing the existing MMOs are doing, why should you choose their game over the established ones?
      Combined with the costs of maintaining an on-going MMO, it's easy to separate passion projects and projects that aim to make a quick buck.
      New World tried to innovate, when they initially wanted to release it as full PvP MMO (which is somewhat of a niche within the niche). But after the first play testing and feedback, they added the PvE contents, which had to be implemented on short notice. And you see that when you play it. Copy/paste enemies, boring quests, bare-bone story etc.
      Final Fantasy XIV on the other hand is often called a single-player MMO, which focuses more on the story of the world, most of which can be experienced while playing alone. It takes a more relaxed approach, and that's something that affects the community as well. Most of the players are chilling or relaxing when playing it. Sure, there are some that take a more hardcore approach to things, but Square is quite strict with managing the community. And players that show toxic behaviour can be banned quite quickly.

    One of the issues for Fallout 76 that I don't think gets talked about a lot is the timing of its release. When Fallout 4 came out it had bugs too, and it started a discussion about the state Bethesda released their games in. The engine hadn't changed in over a decade and there was a debate over how heavily involved the modding community was when it came to fixing the game for the devs. It was a quiet discussion that was slowly picking up steam, but it hadn't reached a fever pitch yet. there wasn't a concrete consensus one way or the other. When 76 dropped, all of the Bethesda flaws were put on full display for everyone to see. And because it was multiplayer, the modding community had very limited ability to do anything about it. Bethesda basically shot themselves in the foot by making it multiplayer. If it had been single player, it would have just been another Fallout game.

I 100% my 1st playthrough and I remembered going in saying to myself and my brother "it's a different game with a different perspective trust me if you think about it like that it'll be a much better experience" maybe that helped?

      Tbh, as a huge ME fan, I still don’t understand the disappointment people had with Andromeda. Maybe I was lucky not to encounter any glitches (played it on PC as soon as it released), but setting the technical issues aside, I really enjoyed the story and exploration of an unknown galaxy. What the exact issue for most people there was, I don’t know. The vibe they wanted to set for Andromeda is that the galaxy is much more mundane and much more eventless than Milky Way. And that is fine. I didn’t expect nir want another story about the fate of the galaxy. That would just be the same as the 1st trilogy. The more trivial issues needing to be solved in Andromeda were, in my opinion, a breath of fresh air the franchise needed.

      @@Littleview23 Imo, I think most people just hated it because Shepard wasn't there. I have seen so many comments on videos about Andromeda where people are mostly just bitching about Shepard not appearing. They just can't accept the fact that he died at the end of ME3

    A controversial one that actually worked out great would be Hitman (2016). People were NOT jazzed about the "levels released over time" shtick, but you know what? It worked out great for them in the end, and now the whole trilogy is condensed into one game that's some serious bang for your buck.

      I enjoyed it too on PS4, the only issue for me was a somewhat empty world, but the voice acting and mocap and vastness of the world made me enjoy it though i did eventually just skip most sidequests to go straight for a bad ending haha, but i do wanan replay it on PS5

    No Man's Sky is a great example of a good company continuing to support not jus the game but the fans. Who else has done this much in a game for free? I am now proud to have given Hello Games my money. I do wish there could be more diversity in the planets. They all feel the same after 'discovering' 20 or so. Still, great effort by HG! ☺

    I made the mistake of playing cyberpunk on an Xbox one. Grinded through the bugs and beat it. Haven't picked it up since and don't plan on it. Been playing no man's sky for 4 years, and wow it's changed a lot. Would recommend picking that up if you like space games and unending exploration. on top of that, all the updates and content added is free.

    I bought NMS knowing basically nothing about it besides 'you can fly a ship from space and land it on a planet without a loading screen' and since you could do that right off the bat, I was happy. All the stuff they've added since is just icing on the cake for me.

    • @wellurban
      @wellurban Рік тому +1

      I had seen all the hype about NMS, but I was also among those that were pretty happy with it on launch. I didn’t really need a lot of stuff to “do”: I was essentially hoping for an endless walking simulator in space, and that was enough to grab me for a few hundred hours. Eventually the lack of procedural variation started to drag, which is where the updates helped to keep bringing me back, but even so if you pay attention to details there were always small things to keep it interesting as a quiet, lonely, meditative experience.

    Ironically, I bought No Man's Sky on release and quite enjoyed it. No game ever lives up to hype, and if you go into playing expecting that, you're always going to be disappointed.
    I have bought the game twice and have gotten hundreds of hours playtime out of it because they just keep going and making it even better.
