I don’t rage but nothing kills my mood more than my internet deciding to leap into the Grand Canyon. But I know some people that get so angry it blows my mind after lag.
Mine was out for a week it sucked but I usually just play single player anyways.

90 GB download with 300 kb/s is pure torture. Heck, i let my PC download on friday morning, going on a trip until Sunday evening and it still wasnt finished haha
I always have one thing I've always said about "Games making kids violent": GAMES THAT ARE VIOLENT have an ESRB rating for a reason!! If YOUR KID is playing a VIOLENT VIDEOGAME it's because the PARENT is at fault for buying their children VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES. That 12 year old didn't walk into the store and say "Yeah I'd like the new playboy Murderthon Game with the Uncensored DLC and Triple Blood Bonus Item" and then purchase it. Or at least shouldn't have.
@@Unknown_Genius It's a parent's job to know what their kid is doing. That doesn't mean they have to be controlling, but they should know. Kids make stupid decisions, even more so than adults, and no parent can protect their child from a threat they don't know exists
I posted a comment after you posted this explaining that it wasnt even the kid who did the crime who owned the game, it was the parents of the victim who bought it and the victim who owned it.
U know you can't control everything ur kid sees.
And saying games cause violence completely ignores other media, books and movies. It's reductive and shifts blame from the things that might have actually contributed, mental health, poverty, education, gangs, easy access to guns, etc. Things politicians don't want to talk about.
Ive been buying games since I can ride a bicycle, back then I went to GameStop... Granted I'm not a mental patient and the games don't affect my thinking... But store clerks don't care how old you are when they sell a game.

2. The question is whether violence is made by media or if violent people seek out violent media.
3. The *only* causal link to violence and video game that's been remotely proven is a small rise after playing a violent video game *right after playing it* that recedes after a short period.
4. Violent crime has largely decreased decade over decade, even after the rise of violence in media aka video games, metal, techno, etc

What's really ironic is that we talk about people not knowing the past being doomed to repeat it then we have controversies popping up that have been a thing forever cuz people like finger pointing towards irrelevant things for a problem instead of actually solving the problem (or realizing there is no problem).

Good idea. Bhutan experienced a wave of crime, violence and corruption in the early 2000's right after they had introduced TV in 1999 (the last country in the world to do so).
All forms of media influence the way people think, feel and act, and video games are definitely no exception. Way too many gamers live in outright denial, because they can't fathom that their favorite form of entertainment could have real, negative side effects on people's lives.
@@goldbullet50 There was also a large number of migrants around that time to the area which probably has a larger hand in that than the introduction of TV. Personally I think media has some influence but it's not the amount that some people think it is.

I will say with that GTA 6 leak it was really nice for other developers to disprove the haters by showing their critically acclaimed games in development footage to prove that the gta 6 leak is nowhere near a final product. Really nice to see something wholesome out of it
As gamer when I saw the leaks, I was amazed how good was it looking. I didnt get people who complained, because it was very obviously for internal eyes only. Some people are just dumb.

The weirdest part was somebody saying that graphics are ready first for a video game and are ready at this early stage.
One of the silly things about Plague Inc is how when your virus evolves, it's a universal mutation. You'll have people already infected in America and Asia, and then when you give the virus a new feature, everyone already infected around the world simultaneously gets the new symptoms. In the real world, a new variant has to start all over, and in fact the people who were previously infected by the old version have a higher resistance to the new one. That alone makes the game a cartoonish take on viral spread and the apocalyptic end scenarios.

But none of that matters, because politics.
And you can't talk about that virus... particularly, if you're mentioning natural immunity.
Hence, why it was a dumb controversy lol.
But had anyone actually played it, and paid attention; you're right, no one could claim there was anything "realistic" about it.
Exploiting that was exactly how I beat the Bacteria level. I got every single person infected without having any symptoms, saved up DNA (or w/e it was called) points, then put a metric boatload of symptoms all at once, and watched Humanity collapse in like a week...
And that's before we get into curing prions, mind-controlling worms, zombies and vampires...

I very specifically remember loving how Wind Waker was presented. My only issue I had was fixed in the HD Remaster which was waaaay to much sailing and having to constantly change wind direction. The new sail was a huge game changer.

It's ridiculous that censorship is still such a huge problem in the gaming industry. If a game is banned because of Chinese censorship, I'm probably more inclined on playing it. That's just me though.
@@Unknown_Genius And the reason is pretty ridiculous, too. Apparently swastikas are allowed in art depicting the era, but they don't consider games "art" (must not have played too many games, then), so games can't have them even if it's period-accurate and not pro-Nazi.
@@Unknown_Genius I never understood censoring the swastika or blood. Anyone playing Wolfenstein, or any WWII game, will know what to expect beforehand. War is brutal and gore is part of it. Some are just looking for excuses to get offended over everything. It shouldn't be normalized to cater to them. They aren't even the ones that would purchase the game in the first place.

I remember the wind waker backlash i was 12 when it came out and i remember fans gettin big mad at the graphics while i was like, im really lovin this art style cartoony feel. Wind waker was an amazing game.
My very first therapist told me, totally seriously, that there were numerous studies that prove that violence in video games causes violence IRL. I didn't believe him at the time, which was about 2002. Years later I learned that not only are there no studies that prove that, but there are studies that suggest that there's no link. Suffice it to say, but I never really liked that therapist
Number One: Since they like to use ridiculous accusations about GTA glamorizing car theft, I'd like to use my own ridiculous counter argument. In GTA, you get penalized through the police star system if spotted stealing a car. So if the game actively punishes you for carjacking, it isn't glamorizing car theft but depicting it as a crime in an attempt to educate the youth.
And it's only there to solve the problem of easily getting a car... And you can buy cars.
Besides carjacking, you literally can do any other crime like murdering civilians, robbing stores or people, drug deals. Those are other ways of getting money, especially in the game's missions. Carjacking is not the MAIN source of income for GTA players, sure some may get the idea, but that isn't the major contribution, there are other factors that may be at play there in Chicago besides GTA.
GTA also teaches kids that police will shoot first and ask questions never.

Kojima spent decades taking credit for other people's work. What goes around comes around.

And the main stream media is garbage, all of it. Fox, cnn, msnbc, and their "newspaper" counterparts are all constant liers, and i cant wait for their inevitable deaths as companies. As boomers start to pass away, so will these garbage outlets. By the times gen X starts to die from old age, they will hopefully be relegated to the history books.

I have a couple of coworkers who puppet the "games cause school shootings" crap (along with other ridiculous things, like apparently game addiction is the reason so many millennials struggled with homeownership...) And hardly this many people would be blaming video games if they didn't hear it from dumb politicians and news outlets.

I lived in Chicago for two years and saw what goes on. Gangsters and jackers don't have time to sit around playing GTA and this is true for other major cities as well. To ban GTA would make a lot of people that don't do those things angry. Everyone always wants to blame someone or something else for something bad happening and it sounds a lot like those people think gamers are stupid.
Ya, it's more of getting praised for doing crime in Chicago. If they actually used that thing called jail or a way to actually prevent criminals from doing it again, might work.

No matter how many people you jailed or executed someone is going to still commit crimes.. I don't know why people get this idea that things like Jail and being executed scare certain people cause it doesn't.. Some people just have a blood thirst that they can't control for some reason..
P.S. Chicago not even top 20 in cities that has the most crimes.. The Main Stream Media is saying Fake News on that one.. Yes crime happens in every city and every rural town I know but to say that one city is where all the crime at is some fake news type bullsh_t..
@Kenrick Eason if someone is violent, then they should be on the streets hurting innocent people. So jail or somewhere that protects the innocent from them. I get you can't stop crime, but when they are released too soon and keep killing people something needs to change.
@@The-Rhino411 I'm talking specifically about people blaming video games for crime when crime has been around longer than video games and politicians like to use things as a scapegoat rather than actually addressing the issue, such as instead of just throwing people in prison which does a terrible job of reforming people, maybe help them out of the life of crime and give them the resource needed to do so. It's easy to blame things on others or other things.
That comment about nostalgia and remembering the games as looking realistic is sooooo true.
I can remember doing The Silent Cartographer on the original Halo and being blown away by the opening.
I was initially put off by Wind Waker, but as soon as I saw the gameplay and got my hands on it I realized just how wrong I was. It's a fantastic game, and I played countless hours of that, Pikmin, and Paper Mario, and Metroid Prime games. With Pikmin 3 (and soon 4) for the Switch, I'm really hoping we get a remaster of the first two games and that we get Metroid Prime 2 and 3.

Wind waker was great one of my favourite zelda games...graphics are secondary to gameplay and the gameplay of wind waker was perfect :-)
@Luke Dudley I was the opposite, I hated it when they revealed it and continued to not like it after playing it. I was like 13 when Wind Waker was released and had grown up on OoT. Majora's Mask and LttP, and after Nintendo baited me with that Gamecube demo that shows the mature Link fighting Ganondorf I couldn't believe the cartoon Zelda game they revealed later. The art style never grew on me and I absolutely hated the stupid ocean stuff and I felt like it was padding to make the game seem bigger than it actually was. The dungeons were cool, and the Hyrule back in time part, but it wasn't enough for me to like it. To this day it's my least favorite entry of my favorite franchise. I was so fucking excited when they announced Twilight Princess only for them to blow that as well lol. At least they're killing it now with BotW and TotK.
@@zackphy Agree almost completely. Wind Waker is among the lowest of the 3D Zelda games in my personal rankings. I grew up playing all Zelda games from the original Zelda launch. Wind Waker stylistically is one I don't like. I am not a fan of cel shading at all and never will be. The gameplay was fine and there was good music and an ok storyline.
As for the rest, I like what they did with Twilight Princess. It is almost tied at the top with OoT for me. Personally I hate what they're doing with BotW and TotK as far as fitting into a cohesive story outside of those two games. BotW was almost tolerable for being so far in the future, but TotK is unforgivable for trying to modify established lore in such ways. Love the games themselves in a vacuum though. As long as both of them are actually so far in the future that the back in time portion of TotK is far after all the other games, I have zero complaints.

Number 8: Konami was also going ham on the pachinko market. They decided to devote their resources to pachinko and mobile games, to be exact.
Also Kojima was always behind schedule and over budget
Number 8 is also just factually wrong, Kojima financially hurt them. He was VP and the stock prices reflected many of his decisions. Kojima is why Lords of Shadow exist, and given the current (dead) state of the Castlevania franchise its safe to say his head should be solely on the chopping block for that fact. This also isn't even including how all the reports of employee abuse came after Kojima left, which many will blame Konami but typically you don't rat on someone until you are no longer beholden to them. It makes it curious that Kojima's departure marks when this started, it also doesn't help that when you look at the fact of the matter even if Kojima never once contributed to the bad working conditions his tenure as VP would have made him aware of the fact the working conditions were ass which at minimum makes him of equal guilt.
It also doesn't help that Kojima always went way over budget while also never being able to meet basic deadlines. He literally did the thing that is currently killing Square Enix, which is reflected in the fact that despite selling all their far lower cost western studios and having the best MMO on the market they are somehow managing to turn massive losses. This stuff kills companies in ways that aren't apparent from just looking at sales, and had Kojima continued working at Konami as VP it is safe to say Konami wouldn't exist.
With number 6 I would say, when you talk about how we saw games on any new console, every new console, and we thought they looked so realistic. They looked MORE realistic than the previous gen’s tech AND the jump from previous to next gen was significant. Think about the jump from SNES to N64 then to GameCube. The jump from sega genesis to sega Dreamcast. The tech was evolving so rapidly that those improvements were shocking. We thought the water in that wave runner game looked so realistic because it was the closest to realistic that a game had ever achieved and it was amazing at the time.
I was in Chicago with my parents back in 1997 or 98 to see Sue the T-Rex Skeleton on exhibit when I was little. My mom owned a truck with a spare tire under the bed and she had it parked against a small hill at the hotel where the truck bed and spare tire were basically kissing the grass and thus cannot be reached. SOMEHOW… SOME FREAKING HOW during the night someone managed to steal the spare tire from under the truck parked against a hill! Yeah no Chicago has had a carjacking or something close to it problem WAY BEFORE grand theft auto was even a real big thing.
yeah, Robocop was too busy in Detroit to assess that case in the 90's lol!

They were school friends and played it together, the claim was the game gave him the idea due to him placing a carrier bag over his head and then hitting him with a hammer

Blaming video games for violence is an insult, when you consider how much violence is caused by alcohol.
I believe that the issue with Wind Waker was that the game series had improved their graphics in a certain way from game to game and when this one came out, it was viewed as a step backwards in relation to the direction the ones before had gone.
Me and my brother both massive Zeld fans since the beginning, saw WW in Walmart once and we looked at each other and said simultaneously “this looks stupid.”
We were promised something that looked like like what would eventually become TP but still…
The irony is that Wind Waker has aged remarkably while Twilight Princess (the edgy game everyone wanted) aged like milk.
Really, you can't talk about Wind Waker controversy without talking about Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask at some point. Those two improved the realism over the cartoony Link to the Past, so people were expecting a rendition of that. Then we got Wind Waker that was aggressively cartoony stylized on purpose. It was a slap in the face.

I liked Wind Waker, it was nice seeing Link looking cute again. Plus he had nice facial expressions instead of that cold stare from Zelda 64.
As someone who has been watching graphic violent horror movies since I was a baby and playing violent video games since like 3 or 4 I can confirm that violence in media does not play a role in real world violence.
Saying GTA6 looks bad is like going up to a house, where they've barely built the frame, and going "oh it's ugly." People are stupid.
I'm surprised the Mass Effect controversy wasn't on here back when the first Mass Effect launched a news team basically attacked Bioware accusing them of making a ****** game and didn't really let the representative from Bioware explain the game

I’ve made this comment before, but I think my favourite gaming moment is still “Do you guys not have phones?”
Imagine working for one of the the most influential pc videogame developers in the world, and having your head stuck up your ass so bad you're completely unaware that hardcore gamers who attend gaming conventions and @%#@% look down on phone games. Dude is probably cube-crawling and harassing women then patting himself on the back for redesigning an in-game portrait of a woman into a fruitbasket.
IIRC in the case of the "Manhunt Murder" it came out that it was actually the victim who played the game, not the perp. And this info was reported even while the controversy was ongoing, but for some weeeeird reason the narrative was not affected.

As a resident of Connecticut, allow me to once again apologize for Joe Lieberman.
I, for one, am glad I bought Devotion on release because I really liked the studio's (Red Candle) previous game Detention. Good thing steam doesn't remove games already purchased from accounts even after unlisting them from the store.
By the way, Red Candle is planning a new game, Nine Sols. So look forward to that !
I forgot they made Detention, too! Glad to hear they're still making games. Hope they've got a better publisher now, or are still self publishing (after the Steam removal)
On number 6. You see the reason why devs don't go for realism in their games is simply because....its boring. Ask any dev. imagine playing COD and you break you're leg in the Prologue, now you have a broken leg throughout the whole game because you want "realism"
More so then realism in gameplay people waver between realism in style.
The issue is realism in style is something people keep pushing for, but its doomed to obsolesce itself. Because more realistic stuff will come. When we get 1 to 1 perfect realism in games...it will probably be boring...cause...like..I can go outside to see this... What people want is a magical experience they can't have in real life. And stylized games offer that a lot of the time in a timeless way, because...that style 100% hits what its aiming for. But realism rarely hits the mark.
Fry & Laurie's sketch "Don't break into my car" explains the last one very well.
I remember loving the art style of Zelda Windwaker when it released. Beautiful game. I only wish dungeons were still referenced in new titles.

They need to bring back more Cell Shaded games. They look awesome and it doesn't require a beefy system to run. I love Void Bastards just because it looks like an old comic.

I kind of feel like being "blacklisted" by a big company and as well having worked alongside with Kojima would kind of make you seem more valuable in my eyes. Like I would want to know what they are scared of...
This list could just be all the time gamers got upset that the protagonist in the game didn't look act exactly like them.
With the games being blamed for violence and murder, I think you'll find that the people who committed those crimes had serious mental issues way before touching a video game.
The ironic thing about the olympic contreversy is that the Ancient Greece Olympics competition were ALL based on the skills necessary to warfare. The competitors were all warriors.

The other day I was replaying Dmc 5 and now I'm fighting the urge to become a half demon with giant sword and guns, running around, pulling sick SSS combos on my neighbours while dancing like Michael Jackson, then running them over with a motorcycle I can split into 2 sawblades.
The struggle is real.
I'd suggest you stop playing those games and try NBA 2K22. Then tell me, do you have the urge to lay up?

OMG i instantly thought about that, i freaking love the humorous videos explaining that phenomena!
All I remember with Wind Waker was that when it came out, it was right next to Twilight Princess, a very celebrated and "mature" toned entry for the series. Now enter Wind Waker and it looks completely different in almost all aspects and yeah I'll admit I was surprised and a little upset because I couldn't, at the time, grasp what Nintendo what doing with the franchise but I got over it. I think it was more of a "shock" to gamers more than anything but I could be wrong.
Wind Waker was a few years prior to TP. Are you comparing going from Ocarina to WW? WW came out in US in 2003, while TP was released in the US in 2006. TP was delayed to allow it to release for the Wii while mirroring Link to be right-handed for the Wii controller scheme.
A great thing you didn't mention about the Devotion controversy was GOG deciding not to release the game mere hours before it was supposed to due to "many messages from gamers".
He left out most of the story, very callously I might add. Peoples lives were ruined by an accidental art asset inclusion! It was no different than the accidental religious chant left in a Zelda game that was taken out of the remaster. Censored Gaming and China Uncensored did a way better report.

No, the thing he didn't mention is that there's literally no need for such a meme in such a game. It has no relation to the game at all, the devs should have known it 100% but yet it was still included.

I'm from Chicago. And yeah #1 is just one of the many dumb things in our city. Like a guy riding a horse on our highway (yes that happened).
There was an episode of Black Market on Vice where the carjackers blamed the car manufactures. He said; with the new key fobs, it make so they can't just hothire anymore. I found that to be very interesting 🤷♂
One I'll always remember because of how stupid it is, is some complained that there were black Zombies in Resident Evil 5

Any political candidate going after video games should be immediately removed because they are not doing any good
The real joke with the IOC, IMO, is they say they don't want violent games for an Olympic esports event, yet they have no problem with boxing, wrestling, and martial arts, which themselves are violent. Let's not forget archery and shooting, also sports from violent roots and with violent connotations.
The level of disrespect konami went to in order to disown not only their best creative director but also their best selling IP just shows the lack of awareness they have for a company.
Manhunt is one of my favorite games and its dumb that they blame games for violence.
Crazy enough, I played the board game "pandemic" at least 100 times in just a few years before the actual pandemic. Not much since then. I learned from playing that game that "winning" in a pandemic scenario is nearly impossible.
Olympics: We won't have any games that involve violence in them, this include games with hand to hand martial arts.
Also the Olympics: Has multiple Martial Arts Based Combat Sports such as Boxing, Karate, and Fencing.
The "SeXbox" targeting Mass Effect. We may as well toss Hot Coffee in there with all the other GTA stuff. The person needs to be aware of it and download a file to unlock it. I think the only to do that is to have a cheat device too. Very difficult for very little. Better options were available for such material..

The Wind Waker controversy is so funny in hindsight because we're 20 years on and the original GameCube version has aged like a fine wine. It still looks great.
Remember this one time way back when me and my friend went to a store to rent games for the weekend/sleepover and my friends dad was with us.

Wind Waker proved itself when it played similarly to the N64 Zelda’s. Even if it looked different, the gameplay was totally there.

I do want to say that plague inc was a general simulator for how the countries would react to the types of spread that we saw with C-19 it again was not as the dev team stated an accurate scientific model for what to expect.
Look, I might get hate for this but I don’t think the official Olympics should have an esports category at all. The Olympics are specifically about physical feats and skill. If they want to set up an Olympic Esports event on their own I’m all for that, but it shouldn’t be part of “The Olympics”.

Great list. You guys do such awesome work! Wasn't a huge or long lasting controversy, but all the criticism Microsoft took when they showed off Xbox one and the concept of diskless gaming. They were panned and made fun of (I remember Playstation getting in on that) only to eventually find Microsoft was right, and diskless for the most part became the future of gaming.

Crazy, I remember that conversation with my friends saying that Microsoft were "trying to keep us from borrowing each other's games". Now it's totally different. I still greatly prefer buying games on disc, but if there's a great sale on the virtual store I end up buying a bunch of games.

Meanwhile, the reason why people were upset about The Wind Waker's art style at the time was because there had been footage of a fight between Link and Ganondorf released, using an art style closer to Ocarina of Time (though obviously higher-quality, higher-resolution). Due to this, people expected the next Zelda game to use that, or at least a similar, art style to the leaked video...only to get "Toon Link" (as SSB would dub him) instead.
I can kind of understand why people were confused and upset, to a degree.
I'm actually happy people got all upset about Windwaker. Seeing that nonsense online is what got me to play the game and fall in love with it.
Surprised we also didn't see the Hogwarts big controversy, being reviewed bombed by certain groups bec a certain author made unsavoury comments in relation to certain groups. Although had nothing to do with the development of the game and most likely said those comments after development on the game even started.
Funny thing is when you ask these blue haired creeps to show you what she said that was so "violent" they point to other tweets or videos of someone else saying what she said, never her own tweets or actual words.

I never understood the hate towards The Windwaker when it came out. It is still one of my favorite video games of all time. The game is still gorgeous to this day.

I havne't had a non-portable nintendo console since the SNES. But when OOT got its 3ds remake I finally gave it a shot and...Well I just didn't enjoy it, and this isn't why, but one thing I found off-putting was how both OOT and Mario 64 became overly childish (IMO), not because of the art style (though I hate early blocky 3d art styles too), but how link always goes 'yaaa!' every time he swings his sword instead of just a swish sound, and mario, instead of just hearing 'boing', he's like 'woo hoo hoo! yahoo!!'.. so effing annoying.
I mean if you can block/ignore it, that's fine, I wont judge anyone for that. But I don't see how people can overlook THAT change, and then goo 'rheee' at a style-change that's pretty true to form from previous zelda games to begin with (even the less classic ones like minish cap).

The thing about devotion is that you can only see that talsman in the Pirate Version of the game! The version to steam NEVER had that content. So you Chinese players played Pirated game and review bombed the game on steam and resulted the game delisted from steam.
With Wind Waker, I only had a magazine photograph to look at and my dumb teenage self wanted that "realistic" Zelda demo from SpaceWorld 2000, I got annoyed for a bit and moved on. I didn't knew how to use the internet at the time, so nothing came of it. A few months later and a high school buddy starts raving about Wind Waker, he's like "dude, I know it looks cartoonish, but it's actually pretty awesome and even Ganondorf himself looks kinda scary!", I got the game and it's now one of my all time favorites.
Also, I kinda get the feeling that Twilight Princess was born from those complaints and while I also love that game as well, visually speaking Wind Waker has aged MUCH better than Twilight Princess.
LOL, I remember the playground talk on stuff from the SNES era. I specifically remember words like "it's like REAL LIFE" being attributed to Super Mario World. SUPER MARIO WORLD WAS CALLED LIKE REAL LIFE(together with Sonic 2, Vector Man, and Mortal Kombat)
