I have always felt the same as far as the hierarchy of sims go. Never understood how people would gush over AC's physics. I remember being very excited for AC, because I felt that Netkar Pro was one of the best at the time, but then AC came out and it felt like a sequel to rF1, while rF2 felt like the sequel to Netkar Pro.
Nice video. The weightlessness feel gets a bit better if you increase LFB (which should be called SAT) a bit. Not sure what wheel you are using but a bit of it adds a lot to the ffb. If you increase it to over 60 or so you start to feel wheel lock up and understeer too but I find it makes lateral forces too strong.
The historic car and track content is what appeals to me with Project Cars 2 .I believe this has formula Vees .Oran Park would be a good track to have .
I know very little about them, ironically. They're our domestic motor sport of choice. They're quite hard to drive in this game, but I'd have no reference point towards their realism.
Too much like project cars for me. The wet weather completely destroys the AI. PC2 had this. For me the perfect game is RF2 dynamics with PC2 graphics 👌
The physics need work (that rear end slide that's easy to correct across all cars kills the experience for me, as well as the feel of an always present traction control) the collisions are awful, the ai is far from good, the brake pressure is wrong. But it has a lot of potential and for an early acess it's not the end of the world. Good job on the review.
This is exactly why I hated every other sims taht currently exist. Rear slides ARE easy to correct in the real world : rubber against tarmac not fucking ice lake, I drive IRL and this feels like a proper rear end. Also the brakes feel quite good, especially the spacial audio that tells you exactly which wheel loses grip first so that you can react accordingly (which makes for a more realistic HENCE easier braking). Don't mistake difficulty for realism.
@@ReachRavage maybe the braking problem doesn't apply to all pedals but with my t3pa the brake is not progressive, once you reach a certain zone you always lock your brakes, not realistic. And as far as oversteer, it should be easy to recover from a spin driving a classic or something like that, not the P series, a formula 1, etc. I can drive like a maniac in AMS 2 and still get away with it with somewhat good times... They need to improve a lot.
Interesting review mate. It is nice to know all of that you're saying about AMS2. The ridiculous pendulum effect + terrible ffb were the main factors that finally got me away from PC2. Once I switched to direct drive wheel, I started to feel in amplified way, how bad they were. At the moment I am quite skeptical towards AMS2 because of that frictionless pendulum effect present. Cheers.
Great review as for the gears not changing that type of box that car has in it doesn't have the auto cut out so even though it is a sequential gearbox you still have to use the clutch you can't just jam the gears in
Would you recommend this over Assetto Corsa for a newb? I used to play Forza and Gran Turismo but have been out of gaming for the past 5 years, but looking to get back in
I'm like you, really played a lot of GT sport and F1 2018--similar handling feel. However, AMS 2 still feels closer to Project cars 2 and PC2 was utter shit. AC on the other hand, I love it. So go for AC intead of AMS2 i would say.
@@vira4032 Thanks. I bought AC about a month ago and I'm loving it. The base content was fun. Not nearly as grand as Gran Turismo and Forza which I used to play 10+ years ago, but the online content is amazing. Such a huge community with AC, I feel everyone should have have it on their hard drive. That in mind I haven't played AMS2 or PC2 yet... I'm hoping to start up an iRacing account soon, but now that things are getting more normal, I have less time.
At the moment I still prefer project cars 2, I won't pretend it's the most authentic simulation, but for me it's just been the most fun overall. I have quite a bit of time in ac and rf2 but the vast majority of my time has been in pcars2. I prefer the ffb in it too though it did take me awhile to get it dialed in. Ive liked what I've played in this so far just for the different cars and tracks but the back end sliding out easily like you've mentioned in this video takes some getting used to. I'm not to happy with the ffb though, I use a fanatec clubsport v2 with a few different rims and it just doesn't feel as good to me in this game. I can go back and forth between ac, rf2 and pcars2 and be happy with my ffb settings but I haven't got it dialed in with this game yet. I only tried acc a bit when it first released and didn't care for it at all, probably because I couldn't get it to run very well in vr and I'm not a big fan of gt3 cars. One thing I have to say though is this game seems very well optimized, it runs good in vr with my gtx 1070. Better than pcars2.
10:10 I don't get it. It starts to rain and drops are falling down on the windshield with 170km/h?? Seriously down??? Never have it in my own car. With speed over ~60km/h it always goes up to the roof.
Thank you for the detailed review. Can you share your force feedback settings for the game if possible please? I'm also using a t500rs but I'm struggling to get it feeling good.
Mine felt pretty great at near-default settings. Make sure to put your gain to '60%' in the Thrustmaster Control Panel, as that ensures the highest motor linearity. Set the in-game 'Gain' to ~35 to 40%, depending on how much kick you like, and keep the Low Forces and FX at 50. Because AMS2 currently isn't modeling friction on wheels, you may need to dial in the 'Damper' setting on your Thrustmaster Control Panel too. Just experiment until the wheel feels as heavy as you like!
I did. Neither the chassis flex nor 5-point tyre model got me on board. Speaking of which, try BeamNG if you want an insane physics engine with chassis flex and soft body modelling.
I am also new to your channel and very impressed by the thoughtful, useful and balanced review. My only suggestion is that it would have been fairer to mention that you were reviewing a v0.8 EA at the beginning of the video instead of the end. There are several rough edges, but incredible progress has been made even since alpha. Reiza is a tiny team with next to no money relative to even other indie devs like Kunos. If AMS 2 is successful, that could change. Nevertheless, the basic physics and FFB are there already--though many people are struggling to get their wheels configured properly. Not the never-ending nightmare of PC 2, but a couple of steps more complicated than AMS (1). AI has barely been touched, but is now a major focus. It has a ways to go. Multiplayer is also quite rough at this stage (you didn't mention or try that). But it is EA. Anyone who is not a sim-freak should wait for release version in two months, or maybe even a bit longer. But I have 100% faith, based on the miracles performed to produce AMS (1), that Reiza will sort all the kinks out in favour of the hard-core side of the audience.
I think you just convinced me to buy this game. I am AMS 1 fan but they really annoyed me with the €90 season pass. Do you feel like there is enough content in the game for a base game? Great review btw 👍
Thanks! For me there is. But you've got to understand I gladly paid $20 for just the Nurburgring in rF2. Something done perfectly to me is worth its weight in gold, and I would take the Porsche Cup Car and Sebring in rF2 over all the content in PCars 2. With that said, I think the base game is fairly priced especially with the new content coming.

@@Ermz Ok, I have a better wheel now so I might give it another try. If iracing sell month passes or have a demo I might give that a bash too.. Cheers.
I have confidence it'll click for you. The content is much better now, but you need to buy DlC on top of the base game. I would recommend Sebring, Nurburgring, Le Man's and Monaco (in that order). The Tatuus open wheelers that come with the game are amazing, but you'll want GT cars for Sebring and the Nordschleife.
really? close to rFactor2? that's giving me second thoughts on it. the intial impression from truck and pickup racing seems to be targeting Microsoft truck racer etc group.

Exactly, its a mix of PC2 and RFactor2 in a great way, and I agree on the self centering feel of the wheel feels perfect, most sims seem to get this wrong, its either too strong or too weak and takes lots of fine tuning, this game you just pick up adjust overall FFB gain and have a blast. Sorry but is that VIR!? I didnt see that in game if so!
@@Ermz Is this track an added download? I bought the early release basic $30 version. Yup its amazing, hopefully this means more sims in the future will be just as good feeling
If you've never driven a real race car I can't take your opinion too serious. It's weird hearing people present themselves as experts on race car physics and never actually driven one.
That's a good point. I was thinking about covering Mount & Blade, but then realized I'd never been in a 13th century medieval sword fight in my life either.
Ermin Hamidovic Since your brain needs the obvious spelled out. Covering something and claiming to know how real something is that you don’t have first hand knowledge of is different. Ex. Medieval soldiers didn’t hold the bow like they do in Mount & Blade.
They didn't hold the bow like they do in the game?! It's good to have someone with first hand knowledge, that's lived for several centuries prove that empirically.

I last sim raced about ten years ago iirc? but I really didnt like Rfactor 2. Bought it, spent a few days trying to like it... but ended up never playing it again, it just was very unrewarding for me.
I'm in the process of getting back into sim racing starting this coming weekend. I have Asseto Corsa, Pcars2 and DR2. What other titles should I get?
rFactor 2!
So you're pretty much saying that this sim has higher-level physics than ACC?
Gseric47 it doesnt imo
ACC is much better.
Rolf Berge if you care more about vr, AMS2.
If you care about ffb ACC
really?
close to rFactor2?
that's giving me second thoughts on it.
the intial impression from truck and pickup racing seems to be targeting Microsoft truck racer etc group.
i downloaded a 458 italia on rfactor 2 n it dont seem realistic, car has too much traction on d rear. its very hard to make it drift, unlike in assetto corsa n real life
You drifted a 458 Italia in real life?
@@JustinMintz01 hahahaha no, drove one but did nothin crazy went only 150kph lmao. but iv seen a few videos from 458 488 driftin n many videos of ferraris oversterin in kind of a straight line. 458 should oversteer takin off full throttle
In what world does rain on the windshield at 150kph go DOWN on the windshield? Nah, this isnt something for me.
Awesome!
haha that thang u feel in d back end of d car is realistic, i think u find it strange cuz rfactor doesnt have dat
You bet! Virginia international. The more I play AMS 2, the more I think they're really getting close to matching rF2s FFB. Very impressive.
@@Ermz Is this track an added download? I bought the early release basic $30 version. Yup its amazing, hopefully this means more sims in the future will be just as good feeling
northern suburb mating call sututututu
I'm happy with ACC
it looks fair but the physics.. not so great in my humble opinion. am hoping it progresses like ACC did
Svaka cask ermine bona ih
The physics look only ok. The thing I'm the most disappointed about is the ai. AMS1 had incredible ai in my opinion. Let's see where this goes
agree.. the AI right now is trash
Cheap on Steam. Too bad min specs are off the roof 😩
If you have never made a game you can't comment on the design of a game. Same thing, but you wouldn't say that.
Ermin Hamidovic Since your brain needs the obvious spelled out. Covering something and claiming to know how real something is that you don’t have first hand knowledge of is different. Ex. Medieval soldiers didn’t hold the bow like they do in Mount & Blade.
Ermin Hamidovic Like if I never played soccer and tried to claim me game show realistic ball weight vs another.
They didn't hold the bow like they do in the game?! It's good to have someone with first hand knowledge, that's lived for several centuries prove that empirically.
where is the mclaren?????🤣🤣🤣
V8 supercars
But the shadows are still awful and give me headaches.
I never had ams1. Never interested instead I had pcars1. I like pcars 1. I absolutley hated pcars2. While graphically and engine wise pcars2 was quite good. Drive wise pcars2 was God awful I uninstalled it 2 hours after I got it. Needless to say I was very skeptical when I heard ams2 was using the madness engine. I watched nearly all of the beta videos making sure it didnt drive like pcars2. I took a chance and got the early release. And I will admit I love it! It took awhile to figure out why I kept crashing to desktop with it, but once i got it fixed it is quite fun to drive. I will enjoy this game to its fullest extent.
Get AMS .. probably best overall sim out there for non VR users .. physiscs, FFB, Sound, AI .. all just works nicely together .. If they manage to polish AMS2 the same way, it would be great sim
@@r6201sk I have vr ams2 looks great in vr. I'm going to stick with ams2. I'm sure ams1 is great I'm sorry I never gave it a shot when it came out but if I got it now it would feel like I was going backwards graphics wise. I'm going on faith that ams2 will be as good when all is said and done with the updates.
LOL I have them both and they totally diferent -but fun..Sometimes i drive PC1 sometimes PC2 :)
@@cocosloan3748 pcars1 I enjoyed, pcars2 I hate and because of that I won't get pcars3. Never had ams1 from what I have read that was a bad call on my end. But I love ams2 so far despite the lack of content although the only cars I can have the difficulty turned up with is the formula cars every other car i suck lol
@@OldSchoolgamer49 Codies bought 'Slightly Mad studios' at the end of last year so if Pcars3 is produced, The optimist in me says it could be great... but the realist in me says it will probably be horrendous.... or DLC galore.
If it had content I liked I might be interested and maybe I’d give it a shot.
In my mind AMS2 is pCars2 without the only thing that made PCars2 tolerable for 12 months....The content. I wanna drive a variety of high performance historically significant race cars in their real liveries on the tracks they raced on.
I have no desire but once or twice a year to drive a Catram. Or any car with no HP......unless it’s a racing Datsun 510 or BMW 2002 for example.
OhItsThat once the cars are setup properly PC2 is the most well rounded sim out there. It isn’t a hop in and play game by default.
Great FFB, poor content, half of the cars feel like boats.
