This feels to me like a villain song: a misunderstood villain explaining why he is the way he is... and it's really effective. The major key in the original makes it actually sadder because you can hear her hope. This version turns it badass.
Is it just me, or does the Minor key make the song feel more uplifting? Like, the original version has no hope, just straight up despair, but this version seems to have an air of determination.
Love how something as simple as a major/minor changeover can turn a depressing spiral-of-despair kind of song and turn it into a determined, almost psychotic feel? Sounds like he's willing to hunt this girl down to get his "perfect life" back..
I humbly suggest either "Music of the Night" or "Angel of Music". A third idea is "The Point of No Return". Also, I really think you could do an amazing job with "Memory" from "Cats".
Am I the only person who find songs in minor to stimulate a euphoric experience that makes me feel REALLY good and gives me a lot of much needed motivation? This song doesn't do so well, but it's an interesting experience and experiment that has some interesting results. It looks like you had some inspiration from Queen and had a lot of fun with it.
You didn't make it sound more sad, you made it sound way more epic! I love the style mixes. This sounds way more like you're taking revenge than wallowing in sadness...
Before watching: ?? Hmm...didn't know it was a major key. During: Woah. Woah woah woah. This is actually creepy. Good creepy, but creepy... After: (on the floor) It's like if Fantine became the villain. But all throughout the song, the villain gets more and more evil.
I see it as a battle cry. The original was so sad. this is like a rally to arms. it's amazing how people hear things. I read your comment and now I see a misunderstood villian rallying to battle XD

a very bad break up. like he was a virgin before and now hes not type of bad break up. like this dude spent a shit ton of money on her and now shes gone type of bad break up. a very bad sad break up.
Some people love pop or metal music and that's great. Me? I love music that moves me, that let's me feel the emotion of the singer, music that can pull me out of my world-weariness and force me to experience the song with the artist. You not only have a beautiful voice Chase Holfelder, you have an alluring style that drags the audience in and holds us, bound in our joys and sorrows, as well those of the song and artist. Keep up the good work, you've got a sub from me. :)
Drake Waters I think people like genres because they do feel sth, personally, believe it or not, I don't like music much, but sometimes you're just drawn to a song or beat and I really do believe it's for the same reason
You have an amazing vocal range being able to hit the high notes with such ease. Not sure if you've ever done anything by Darren Hayes (Savage Garden) and later solo...but I'm sure you could do an awesome cover of "Insatiable" by Darren Hayes with the vocal strength you have. Would love to hear that from you and I'm sure it would also set you forward with the same appreciation as the great Cyndi Lauper cover you did of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."
For clarification, I don't mean the whole thing. Obviously it's really different. But some of the vocals when he gets really angsty is like 100 percent Muse.
I listened to I Will Always Love You first, and thought that same thing! So many of Muse's songs are in a minor key with electronic orchestration. The tone of his voice is very similar, too, so even though the songs are completely different, they have a parallel feel to them.
Wow! I love these minor renditions, because they completely alter the tone and emotion of the singer and what they want the listener to hear and feel. In the original, it seemed that the singer was saddened that her hopes and dreams were dashed because of circumstances and choices. This one, the singer seems angry that someone stole their dream. Just my thoughts☺
+Mike Custalow I just now ordered his first album, the CD from Amazon. I'm 67 years in age, so....old school. No experience with itunes, me---hard copy needed. Reading the reviews for Chase, for the most part ALL of us believe he is 'amazing'. We will have to come up with some variations of that adjective!
This feels much more melancholy to me. It shows the happiness and then the immense pain and the dispair so poignantly, that I can feel the tears in my eyes.
Every time I see a video from you, and see the title says Major To Minor. I get so excited and you have yet to disappoint. You have talent, (I am sure you already know this) but I just had to say it.
I can't even begin to explain the impact your music has on me. I grew up a musician-still am- music just runs in my blood, and as a fellow musician I'm sure you'll understand the feeling I'm about to explain: When I listen to your songs, it just hits a part of me... kind of makes my chest a little tight, I feel warm, a little flutter in my stomach... It's a feeling I can't really put into words, but in short I love your music, and could listen to it endlessly! Please keep making your videos!
First song I've heard: "Kiss the Girl". Second song was: "All I want for Christmas" And now I am here and ... wow ... you are really amazing. I like that you make every song to your own one ... and damn, I love them all ... Please don't stop singing :-)
My chorus director told us that most people tend to gravitate towards songs in major keys rather than minor and we did a test....and I was the only one in my entire class who preferred minor over minor. It's just so right to me. So satisfying. I love all your songs especially the star spangled banner. You have really learned how to throw your voice at the top notes which is amazing. I love your works. Thank you for sticking up for us minor key people.
I just discovered your music today and must I say, you are by far one of the most talented singers I've ever heard. And you like Freddie Mercury?! I am the biggest Queen fan around and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw you liked Freddie :) keep up the good work and you WILL make it big. You are a one of a kind :)
I love these major to minor covers, it gives a whole new emotion to the song! I could listen to this song over and over and over again they are so interesting to listen to. I actually first found out about you from my Chorus teacher at school! She showed us your major to minor cover of "all i want for Christmas is you" and it just amazed me how you could make a well known christmas song so different, but a good differnent. And after i heard that i needed to hear more from you. Now I been kind of obsessed with your covers because they are EXCELLENT!!!!! plus this is one of my favorite songs and you put a reallly awesome twist on it!!!
A "real" instrument is anything you use to make music. Digital instruments are real as well, and this sounded amazing. I'm curious what more you come up with!
No instruments were needed to make this masterpiece! I especially liked the brass part at 1:16, and the vocal part at 3:30 !!! Chase, again you did an excellent job! Every new episode completely changes my personal favorites list. Thank you!
You are a true conduit for the emotions created by your music to pass through to us. These incredible arrangements you have put together for our senses to consume and savour, deserve high praise. I love your voice. I love the way you interpret the underlying message in each of the songs you have performed for us. Please never stop.
Can we request?! Do a Phantom of the Opera song please please please! More musicals this is freaking amazing! I've listened to it like 5+ times. Amazing!!
Holy Crap! I am completely blown away. There are so many things that give me chills in this video. Your use of Garage Band, the quality of your voice, the intensity of the Minor Key, and so on... Damn. You just blew my mind.
So I am a music nerd and I have to know: how do you convert them? Do you do parallel or relative minors to the major key, and do you do natural, harmonic, or melodic minors?
I love how, instead of becoming sadder like the others tend to do, this becomes almost a rock song of sorts! Just another M2m to add to the favorites! Great job!
The construction of the new Titanic has angered the spirits. Hear them singing like sirens, calling the next ship to its destruction. Those who board the new ship will join them in the deep. This is the song of the cursed voyage.
I can't believe that it's taken over 4 years to find you and quite by accident. It was a Facebook post that exposed me to your "I'll Always Love You." And now I'm exploring your vids. You are awesome!
Not gonna lie, this sounds like the angry lover out to get revenge on the world and those who wronged them. It's an amazing cover though!! :) Great work!
This is by far the most amazing song you have sung. Out of all the ones I heard I find myself replaying this one over and over again. I found you off a reblog of a twitter that I was watching. I heard the voice and was so moved. I hope to buy your album when I get some extra spending money. But I love the stuff you do ever since I watched that first song I say thru a twitter reblog. Never stop singing your amazing!
Your music is amazing and I find myself feeling as if I'm discovering you for the first time again every time I hear one of your songs. Thank you for making music!
This feels to me like a villain song: a misunderstood villain explaining why he is the way he is... and it's really effective. The major key in the original makes it actually sadder because you can hear her hope. This version turns it badass.
Holy shit you’re right, this sounds like it could totally be a depressing villain song
True🐶
You were 2 years ahead. Perfect song for the new 'Joker' movie.
Kinda does sound like something you'd hear in Wicked
666 nice 👍🏻
Is it just me, or does the Minor key make the song feel more uplifting? Like, the original version has no hope, just straight up despair, but this version seems to have an air of determination.
+Pyrolion09 Yeah, I agree--for me the original actually sounds sadder. Interesting!
I actually agree.
+Pyrolion09 This one to me sounds like he's taking revenge and this is his call to arms.
I could see that
+Pyrolion09 Maybe if you're tone deaf.
I don't know what I love more, the song itself, or the fact that you've got Freddy Mercury holding a cat on your desktop.
Same though
Love how something as simple as a major/minor changeover can turn a depressing spiral-of-despair kind of song and turn it into a determined, almost psychotic feel? Sounds like he's willing to hunt this girl down to get his "perfect life" back..
Most minor key songs turn psychotic and it's beautiful. ❤👌🏼
Would serve a great use in the show You
Please do Phantom of the Opera - it would be so spectacular
+Sarah Marshall D-Did you just go there?...?
You have read my mind!
Yes, I was just thinking that while listening to this one. Please please please do some Phantom!!
Yes! Phantom please. was never a big fan of Les Miz or this was a fantastic rendition.
+Sarah Marshall
but the phantom of the opera is already in a minor key.
C.L. The Raccoon
I meant any of the songs! Like Music of the Night. Or Masquerade would be really cool
Please remake a piece from Phantom of the Opera! Some of these pieces become downright creepy when sung in Minor Key.
Omg! That's a FANTASTIC idea!
YES O.o
Phantom yes!
YES
I humbly suggest either "Music of the Night" or "Angel of Music". A third idea is "The Point of No Return". Also, I really think you could do an amazing job with "Memory" from "Cats".

I get the same charge from songs in minor key... and I'm now obsessed with this channel!
:D
Remrie Arrie to me i feel melancholic but i love listening to songs like this anyway
I get ASMR like tingles from songs that are sang well in minor key.
I believe it's called frisson
sounds amazing dude!!!!
+Chase Holfelder oh wow, fast reply!! and hit me up on my email calebhylesmusicinfo @gmail.com :) let's see what we can do!
+Caleb Hyles Me likey like to see this ;)
CALEB HYLES! I LOVE YOU!
CALEB!
What the--? Caleb Hyles? What're YOU doing here?!
But seriously though, I'd LOVE to see you guys collab!
You didn't make it sound more sad, you made it sound way more epic! I love the style mixes. This sounds way more like you're taking revenge than wallowing in sadness...
It's like Evanescence covered Les Mis.
YES
Fr fr
Omg u couldn’t be more right
definitely because Evannescence uses minor chords always in their epic metal music
Before watching: ?? Hmm...didn't know it was a major key.
During: Woah. Woah woah woah. This is actually creepy. Good creepy, but creepy...
After: (on the floor)
It's like if Fantine became the villain. But all throughout the song, the villain gets more and more evil.

i like ur profile gorl😳
This guy is honestly blessed with this voice.
He blesses my ears with his voice 😂
Lyrics:
I dreamed a dream in times gone by...
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed, that love would never die!
I dreamed that God would be forgiving...
TRUMPET
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid!
No song unsung, no wine untasted
...
But the tigers come at night...
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart...
As they turn your dream to shaaaaa-aaa-aaaaaaaame!!
She slept a summer by my side!
She filled my days with endless wonder
She took my childhood in her stride!
But she was gone when autumn came...
And still I dream she'll come to me!...
That we will live the years together!
But there are dreams that cannot be...
And there are storms we cannot weather...!
La lalalala
I had a dream my life would be!
La lalalala
So different from this hell I'm living!
So different now from what it seemed!
Now life has killed the dream... I
...dreamed;
I like how the piano is named "creepy piano" 😂 it just makes me laugh but the video is amazing 😊👍🏼
i relate to the original but like this, i feel less sad about the injustice against me and more angry. so its just as remarkable
Yeah. That's the vibe I get, too. The original is sad, but this one is angry, almost like the character is vowing revenge.
How about "500 miles" by The Proclaimers! I can imagine it as having a deeper meaning if sung in a minor key.
It sounds so sinister like this... instead of sounding like a song of defeat it sounds like he's going to take revenge and fuck shit up. I love it :D
I feel like this belongs in Repo the Genetic Opera and I am loving every second of this.
+Salem Novak Fkin love Repo
+Salem Novak YAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS!
repo!!!!
+Salem Novak YES, SOMEBODY ELSE KNOWS ABOUT REPO! who's waiting for a sequel? i know it's funded by the fans, so i'm still holding out hope!
***** I'm more holding out hope that some day I'll be able to see a live show!
Chase Holfelder makes sad songs even sadder. That's a special kind of talent.
MUSIC OF THE NIGHT from Phantom of the Opera, PLEASEEEEEE DO IT!!!
YES.
Yessss please!
It's a long song, but it would sound fantastic, I'm sure. That'd be really cool
ikr?
yes!!!
His covers always puts images in people's heads...
What do you see, when you listen to this song?
Queen Curry Tastic The girl with the dragon tattoo. Somehow..
Curry I see Fantine absolutely DESTROYING her ex & anyone who ever crossed her
I see Minecraft.... xD
a very bad break up. like he was a virgin before and now hes not type of bad break up. like this dude spent a shit ton of money on her and now shes gone type of bad break up. a very bad sad break up.
Curry Justin/Anarky from TheFamousFilms' Crafting Dead series

+Gary Myers I was going to say the exact same thing, mate!
Spooky. The change does affect the emotional impact. How long did it take you to put that together? Amazing.
Love the Freddie desktop.
+TheCharliePS He's just the best
+Chase Holfelder legendary! Queen cover soon? Crazy little thing called love could be interesting in minor!
+Chase Holfeder Just out of curiosity, do you listen to a lot of Queen's music?
I wonder what Chase could do for a song that was already in a minor like Queen's "The Show Must Go On"??
MrDavidr86 I would love to hear him sing that in a minor key! Or somebody to love!
AMAZING!!!!!! Jesus christ, dude, you're a genius.
I agree... We should marry him :D
Speechless.!
Jeremai Yo-Antoine Burke He's already married
Holy shit, this sounds a lot like Muse's earlier songs.
Oh my god, you're right,, makes me love this cover even more!
Spiral static amirite
For clarification, I don't mean the whole thing. Obviously it's really different. But some of the vocals when he gets really angsty is like 100 percent Muse.
Yeah, that actually nails what I was thinking of. Seriously though this cover could be in Showbiz I feel.
I listened to I Will Always Love You first, and thought that same thing! So many of Muse's songs are in a minor key with electronic orchestration. The tone of his voice is very similar, too, so even though the songs are completely different, they have a parallel feel to them.
Didn't think I could possibly love this song any more than I already did. Jeez, man. I'm fangirling. The talent here is awe-inspiring.

I didn't expect such an emotional difference!
Wow. Came here from the "All I want for Christmas" video. You have an amazing voice, subbed. Do you have an album out?
Yes you need to do a Christmas album that was gorgeous. (All I want)
+Chase Holfelder just bought it! looking forward to volume 2.
+Mike Custalow I just now ordered his first album, the CD from Amazon. I'm 67 years in age, so....old school. No experience with itunes, me---hard copy needed. Mike Custalow I
The fact that you converted this all to minor key and composed all of the instruments digitally demonstrates your musical talent. Amazing.
you are amazing!!!
also that wallpaper gives me life
This is the most chilling song I have ever heard. I got chills down my spine from the very first note and lyric. Amazing job on this one Chase!
0:33 i'm already in love with you, thanks. 3:19 - omg 3:31 :O - literally my face. you're amazing.
I literally sobbed, this song was already beautiful and now I can't imagine listening to any other version.
I still maintain that if a studio does not pick you up to score for a major motion picture they are just missing the train.
This song gives me the feel of the sad backstory of a villain which made them like that
So freaking talented😍
+Abylin Watkins
This feels much more melancholy to me. It shows the happiness and then the immense pain and the dispair so poignantly, that I can feel the tears in my eyes.

I love the part when he says: And there are storms we cannot weather
I kind of wish that that was said with the rage , like that would give me goosebumps
Truly astounding. I would have never thought that taking the song from major to minor would have such am impact making the song your own.
I just discovered your music today and must I say, you are by far one of the most talented singers I've ever heard. And you like Freddie Mercury?! +Chase Holfelder I understand, keep up the great work!
this man is a superstar!! perfect pitch & what a range!! not 2 mention his creativity!!!!!'
I just became fan - amazing stuff you are doing and I love that you have Freddie Mercury for your background!
No instruments were needed to make this masterpiece! I especially liked the brass part at 1:16, and the vocal part at 3:30 !!! Chase, again you did an excellent job! Every new episode completely changes my personal favorites list. Thank you!
I love the growl. Great job man,new subscriber.
You should be world famous. Your talent is dazzling, and the tone of your voice is unique.
more like 'I Dreamed A Nightmare'
You have the ability to make sad or happy songs somehow creepy. That's perfect.
man your vocals are insane... such a good job
+Chase Holfelder ah thanks so much man!! I appreciate it.
You are a true conduit for the emotions created by your music to pass through to us. These incredible arrangements you have put together for our senses to consume and savour, deserve high praise. I love your voice. I love the way you interpret the underlying message in each of the songs you have performed for us. Please never stop.
More melancholy in major. One of those songs that pulls that off.
I love listening to your covers and trying to do different harmonies that aren't already in it. It's fun and challenging
goosies at *but the tigers come at night* ahhhhhhhhhhh I just love this and every. single. video of yours!!!!
I freakin cried!! I haven't heard this kind of passion and talent in a really, really long time! Good on you!! You won my heart!
Love your work! Suggestion: Hotel California in Minor!
+eeyore499atlee Hotel California already is in minor.
the way he spat out "forgiving" so bitterly in the beginning gives me life.
So I am a music nerd and I have to know: how do you convert them? Do you do parallel or relative minors to the major key, and do you do natural, harmonic, or melodic minors?
And now I'm crying on the inside. Excellent cover.
in a minor key if feels a lot more like a jazz/blues song.
I love this. I did a Le Mis concert in choir a few years back, and have been obsessed with it ever since. You rocked this.
Gotta love that "creepy piano" haha
I cried.....you are so talented!
Wow, suddenly this song makes a LOT more sense. Ha ha, Thanks!
I love how, instead of becoming sadder like the others tend to do, this becomes almost a rock song of sorts! Just another M2m to add to the favorites! Great job!

Holy shit dude,
I can't believe that it's taken over 4 years to find you and quite by accident. It was a Facebook post that exposed me to your "I'll Always Love You." And now I'm exploring your vids. You are awesome!
Not gonna lie, this sounds like the angry lover out to get revenge on the world and those who wronged them. It's an amazing cover though!! :) Great work!
I love this. This is probably one of my favourite songs from the musical and now it sounds like a rock song. Just wow. That is talent
wow, this is actually amazing considering the fact you only used Garage Band. Vocals on point as always. Great job
you are an awesome musician. you are musically inclined and just born with the talent and I love you and all your covers!
You don't happen to have sheet music for this, do you? I think that this would be cool to do for an audition!!!
Sarah Noyes if you mean the singing part then you literally just have to take the minor key version of this song
Wow.... Just wow....
It doesn't just add melancholy, it makes the experience song downright eery!!!
You should do 'Happy' in a minor key. XD
Thank you Chase!! I recommended this song on one of your other major to minor songs and you did not disappoint!!
do phantom of the opera or something from a tim burton film :)
Les Miserables is my favorite musical...and this version literally moved me to tears. AMAZING job.
You have Freddie Mercury hugging a cat as your screen saver too?
I just love that you do this. you have an amazing voice and understanding of theory to change the keys and make the music so dramatic
This is an Evanescence song and no one can tell me otherwise
This is by far the most amazing song you have sung. Out of all the ones I heard I find myself replaying this one over and over again. I found you off a reblog of a twitter that I was watching. I heard the voice and was so moved. I hope to buy your album when I get some extra spending money. But I love the stuff you do ever since I watched that first song I say thru a twitter reblog. Never stop singing your amazing!
I have no idea why the major version actually sounds sadder.... very weird.
Your music is amazing and I find myself feeling as if I'm discovering you for the first time again every time I hear one of your songs. Thank you for making music!
so who else thinks that this guy would be great on Avenged Sevenfold cover?
My god I love this man and his music. And Jesus this is good, I mean all his music is good
It went from melancholy to emo...
*mind blown* Amazing arrangement. Reminds me of some of the theatrical-type rock bands of the 70's and 80's. Yeah, I'm old.
So impressively done--but why hetero-swap the pronouns. Literally why.
OMFG the minor key really did give the song another emotion... WOW! Keep up the epic work, Chase!
really cool. kinda wish he hadn't changed the pronouns, but whatever.
Katie Scarlett I agree but it’s his choice but it’s still really good
Oh Jesus Christ he can change every other thing about the song except hes and she's? He sang it from his perspective
