I wouldn’t say the original is happy, but certainly hopeful. This version is no doubt mournful. Damn, goose bumps!
The chorus of the original is actually in minor key (Near Far part). Only that it ends in the major key.
Major: Rose survives the Titanic and laments her love for Jack.
Minor: Jack survives the Titanic and gets haunted by Rose's ghost.
Minor: Despite all efforts, Rose still dies

Janika c: there was a tv show called stalker a while back. In most episodes there’s was a song they’d put in a minor key for that reason. It was very effective.

This went from “Romantic” to straight “Depression” I LOVE IT Lol
Jack is a killer who murdered many passengers in the Titanic. During that, he meets Rose and, with her status, he manipulates her to really believe that he's an innocent person. Jack "falls in love" with Rose and becomes obsessive. Learning about the marriage, he decided to kill her fiance. He was caught in the act but Rose is still convinced that he is a good man, going along with his plans though completely oblivious of them. Jack knew he was going to be taken away and locked up after the ship ride, separating him and Rose. So, he decided that, if he can't have Rose, no one can. Nobody knew how or when his plan started, but it worked and the ship sank. He was gonna kill Rose in the end rather than he die and she be with another man but Rose realizes everything and lets him go.

Agreed. Unfortunately, this is the only version of the song I can listen to without laughing, because the very first time I ever properly heard 'My Heart Will Go On', it was the recorder version. This is the only one that's different enough for my brain to put it in a different box and not overlay the recorder audio while I listen, which does have its perks, bc this version's much better as mood music for writing than the original is for me, recorder memes aside
