Agreed. Was fortunate to see him both electric & acoustic. Absolutely one the best guitarists I have seen live & I've seen 'em all from Chuck Berry to Mark Knopfler. Like I said in another post, he should be named the Poet Laureate of California.
I had the good fortune of seeing you and Phil perform a couple of years ago but after seeing that and this rendition, I'm awonderin how you aren't any top 100 guitarist list.
This recording was instigated and produced by "UNCUT" Magazine, as part of the free Dylan tribute album, "Highway 61 Revisted REVISITED" in 2005. All who bought the magazine got the album for free. It remains a treasured possession of mine. Every track is great, but Dave's cover of this song is probably the standout. Other artists performing include Drive-By-Truckers, Paul Westerberg and Willard Grant Conspiracy.

Tom Aless glad people remember Johnny Winter. He was a talent. Saw him, he fell on some hard times with the dope for a while, but, when he was on, he was on fire.
Excellent cover of this Dylan classic. Dave Alvin is so good. PEACE

A great cover ! Dave, I met you in Ratoath (Ireland) in 2012, one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Have you in my heart ❤️
I came across this incredibly cool version on an Uncut Magazine comp with the coolest cover compilation name ever "Highway 61 Revisited Revisited".

Yeah a different take on Bob's original. I still think nothing compares to the Johnny Winter cover.
