If a traveler skips Metro Manila he skips the heart of the Philippines. Aside from the recent ultra modern areas like BGC, EASTWOOD CITY, ORTIGAS CENTER, the coastal areas of SM MOA in Manila and resorts/hotels and amusement parks in Pasay (including the financial district of Makati city which was the 1st in the Phils. after WW2), there are lots of historical places in Manila that tells the story of the Philippines, how it was, how it came to be. He's missing out on major parts of the country's history🙂

Go to the Philippines in December, not in summer. Even someone that has grown up there finds the heat and humidity uncomfortable, let alone someone who’s from the US. Lovely place to visit, familiarize yourself with, as well as the food and incredibly kind people

4:00 Just for reference: When Filipinos say "Don't come during summer", it means don't come during March to May. These are the hottest and most humid months of the year. Our highest temp recorded so far this year (if I remember correctly) is 40°C (sorry, don't know Fahrenheit 😅), and highest heat index (real feel) so far is 48°C. Classes have been suspended for fear of heat stroke/heat exhaustion among students.

UPDATES: Calling with your cellphone is so expensive than sending via text messages.
Jeepneys are now being phased out to give way to modern and airconditioned jeepneys.

  • @leenmartinez
    @leenmartinez 11 днів тому +5

Philippines is an early adopter of text messaging from late 90s when cellular phone charges for call was so exorbitant. Text messaging was the mode of communication because it only cost 1.00Peso (Piso) per text at the time then the introduction of unlimited text as a cellular networks tried to outrank each other to offer the better text message packages. During christmas or new year, the mobile networks would be congested because Pinoys would be sending greetings at the same time locally and globally.

This made us the SOCIAL MEDIA CAPITAL OF THE WORLD AND NOT ONLY THE TEXTING CAPITAL. That's why vloggers are fully aware not to offend any Filipino or say anything bad about the country in their vlogs otherwise their account will disappear over night. Lol.

The best months to visit the Philippines is Jan to Mid March. These are quiet months and the weather is not too hot but not rainy.
    Do not skip Manila though..
    I recommend visiting t
The world's oldest Chinatown in Binondo , the walled City of Intramuros.
You can make a quick trip to Luneta by taking the Kalesa ( Horse drawn carriage) then go back to Fort Santiago .
Don't forget to reserve your dinner at Barbara's Heritage Restaurant also in Intramuros. It's a cultural restaurant where traditional Filipino dances are performed . You must book your reservation early .
Must have is the ripe Mangoes!
    Guimaras Mangoes are the best!
    Must try
    Fresh Veggie Lumpia
    Kare Kare
    Lumpia Shanghai
Sinigang Pork, or Shrimp or Bangus
    Sizzling Sisig
    Kaldereta

Hello, Ryan and Cindy. Glad to hear you are coming to visit our country the Philippines. May you enjoy and have good and beautiful memories of your stay here. Still planning for places to visit? You might want to check out this video "10 Best Places to Visit in the Philippines - Travel Video" by touropia. Like what I read somewhere in the comments, please include Metro Manila in your itinerary, where the capital Manila, as well as Makati and Quezon City are located.
It's heartwarming seeing Cindy's excitement in finally seeing the Philippines in person. Thumbs up to you both for trying to learn the accepted pronunciation of Tagalog words. Yes, the stress of "Tagalog" is in the middle syllable, "Ta-GAH-log". Same is true with "Salamat", it is "Sa-LAH-mat". Most, if not all Filipinos, can understand and speak English, specifically American English (as opposed to British English), so you will hear us saying "elevator" instead of "lift", "fries" (for French fries) instead of "chips", and so on, so you won't have a hard time conversing with the local folks wherever you may be in these islands.

(2:26) -- U.K. also includes places like wales, scotland and ireland where english isn't spoken like a native english speaker. Native english speakers would probably understand english spoken from india better than they would from ireland for example.
(2:59) -- Sending sms is cheaper, that's is why it is preferred over calling. Not for translation. There are a lot of filipinos who knows at least 3 languages, their own, filipino (or tagalog), and english. Translation isn't really needed.

On the "World's top-speaking English population", I think they based it on population, as India has well over 1 billion people, so they must have like, 250 million English speakers. Same with Pakistan. The Philippines has 115 million people and maybe around 80 million can speak (at least) basic conversational English.

Ryan was like, why would I text you when I can call you rather, but in Filipino "psyche", if it's textable, why call?😂 for most Filipinos unsolicited calls is a no-no😂 unless its urgent and emergency. So if its textable, why call mantra😂 But if we need to call a person even for a conversation, we first text and send message like, "can I call you in 10 minutes"? and so the person can say if she's available to entertain a call or not and he/she would reply, you can call me after my shift and that's it, end of conversation😂 I know that in western part of the world at least 90% opposite and people call rather than text. So if you hang out with Filipinos, you would probably hear them say, just message me, or let's chat or text me when I home, rather than them saying "give me a ring anytime". They would say "I'm just a text away, than I'm just a call away"😂😂😂 Filipinos only call in times of emergency or urgent matters. But in conversations, we text until heavenly kingdom come😂😂😂
