This is such a fun and beautiful version of this song! Geoff's voice takes me right back to watching the Grinch cartoon at Christmas time as a kid. And I love what they did with the arrangement and the updates they made to it. Really fun reaction to get us in the Christmas spirit! ❤🎄⛄
One of Geoff’s favorite singers it’s Thurl Ravenscroft who did the song in the cartoon version of Grinch. Boris Karloff narrated but Mr. Ravenscroft was the singing voice. Geoff channeled Thurl Ravenscroft in this one. The vocals are surprisingly similar. I always have to stop and remember just how young Adriana was at this time. She had done their Frozen tTwo medley the year before. They asked her to do that as her 15th birthday present. So she was roughly 16 at this time and has some pretty serious pipes for a person that young. Since you remarked specifically about Jay’s voice, you really should check out their current seasonal special: Zat you Santa Claus? J is featured quite a bit and gets to do a little improv. And while you have your headphones out, you really should check out Geoff’s thunderous Carol of the (big big) Bells. I didn’t check to see if you did any reactions last year, but if you’ve ever watched the movie Mean Girls, you should really watch their cover of Jingle Bell Rock. I haven’t seen the movie and even I laughed.
I think Geoff must be getting some revenge on Layne for all of the low notes and stresses he puts Geoff through on all of his (Layne's) arrangements by making him into Max the dog, since Geoff arranged the song and so has pretty much total control of the video.
In the Chuck Jones animated version, this song was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft ("Tony the Tiger"). He had such a wonderful name, that name-dropping him is almost obligatory.
Thanks for this reaction to an older VoicePlay Christmas tune from 2020. I enjoy your analysis. They are always awesome and loads of fun! I'll always be here for VoicePlay or Geoff solo reactions/analyses. VoicePlay released their Christmas tune for this year a little over a week ago. Hope that you have time to check it out. "Carol of the Bells," Geoff's solo Christmas release dropped the same day and is awesome; averaged nearly 100K views per day in its first few days. Judging from his album art, the Geoffquakes did some damage! LOL
Layne 100% likely volunteered for that I didn't see the behind the scenes of this one cuz I wasn't a patreon member yet, but knowing Layne it's was definitely his idea.
Voiceplay is my personal favorite a cappella group, and this cover is awesome. If you want to hear a different groups version, try Home Free. They just (as in, yesterday) released their cover of this song.
I wasn’t excited at all for the HomeFree version. Because we have this VP version. But on stage, HomeFree’s was lots of fun. Definitely it’s closer to the original, and a Tim focus.
To this day they haven't revealed who acts the Grinch and they probably never will. But they kill this cover. Layne as a french waiter here is a forerunner to his performance as a french chef in their Little Mermaid Medley. Two other great Grinch versions can be provided by: 1 Tommy Johansson, who with a couple of bandmates from Majestica provides a metal version. 2 Elliott Robinson a gorgeous bass singer who wrote a rebuttal version Not So Mean A Grinch.
Check out Sharon den Adel & Anneke van Giersbergen - Somewhere. Those voices are awesome. I love Floor Jansen and those two are up there as well. Sharon is from Within temptation and Anneke is from The Gathering.
I think it would be awesome if you would check out Ayreon. Arjen Lucassen, the mastermind behind Ayreon, is Dutch like Floor and has worked with her on numerous albums. He writes these highly complex concept albums a bit like musicals with a story and people singing roles like in opera. His specialty is recruiting the best singers (mostly metal and rock) for his music. Floor Jansen sings in the following albums, The Dream Sequencer, 01011001 and The Source. Her sister, Irene, sings in another three.
I love when you react to VoicePlay! Would love to see you react to some Voctave Christmas music, especially Mary Did You Know with the writer and O Come All Ye Faithful ❤
Hello Nick This is totally off the subject, but maybe you should checkout a live video from 1984 by a group called Queensryche name live in tokyo. The particular reason of informing you about this live video is because the Vocalist Geoff Tate is responsible for creating a legion of upcoming singers and a movement known now some 40 yrs later as prog metal,i think you would be impressed by his almost operatic approach to the music that they made, regards Stacy
Could you do a video reaction to singer Dan Vasc? Amazing Grace, The Sound of Silence, and our National Anthem are pretty incredible renditions by him! New subscriber here and I'd really enjoy your take on Dan Vasc!!!
I would be very much interested in a vocal coach's / singer's opinion on MayTree's Master of Puppets (Metallica cover). They are a Korean a capella group. In this cover, they sing the guitar solo. There are two other (mostly) a capella groups I would recommend: Van Canto and Hellscore.
For their Videos they always lipsync. Their music we hear is finished by Ed Boyer and cannot be performed in exactely that way. It's studio quality... and first class great all the time. You would like their newest one - have a look. And also go listen to what Geoff has done to "Carol of the bells"... 😮😅❤
Send me your video recommendations via Buy Me A Coffee: buymeacoffee.com/nickhiggssinger
If we purchased and made a suggestion would you be able to do it before Christmas?
Please do a reaction video to Geoff Castellucci's newest cover of " Carol Of The Bells."
This is such a fun and beautiful version of this song!

Want another side of J None's voice? They dropped Louis Armstrong Christmas tune a week ago, Zat U Santa Claus?
Loved your reaction to this one!!

I don’t doubt for a moment that Layne decided to be Max. He and Geoff seem to take turns being the Chief Goof. 🙂

The fact that Adriana Arellano was 16 here! Such a great voice! Always great to hear she’s going to be ft again.

Great Premier! Thanks for the notification 😋. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 🎄
Thank you! This is a great version of this song! Love it!
One of my favorite Grinch's! And though he's not a bass, Jordan Smith's version is wonderful, too!
Marc Martel's is pretty great as well.
Check out Geoffs carol of the bells and Voiceplays zat you santa clause or their thriller or be prepared

Home free just released mr grinch. They did great job on it
Different feel but just as great.
Have you seen Geoff's latest Christmas Carol? I would love to see your reaction.
I thought you were about to miss the ending -- lol -- but you got it. It's hilarious.
Love it!

I wonder if it's the same actor who was in the video with Layne's family for his daughter's birthday?😊💚♥
@DravenGal I have always wondered that too.
I think it's their friend who was in Drunken Sailor. His silly movements made me think of him
@BetsySchiller-sj2sm Hmmmm...interesting, Detective Becky! I could see Bucky doing that! ♥💚
For a very traditional version, I really like Bobby Bass. 💚
And Elliot Robinson’s take off is very cool. As in ‘Shaft’ kinda cool. 😊
Check out Sharon den Adel & Anneke van Giersbergen - Somewhere. Those voices are awesome. I love Floor Jansen and those two are up there as well. Sharon is from Within temptation and Anneke is from The Gathering.
Yup, that was my first reaction to the makeup too XD
You should check out Small Town Titans version.

You should check out Emma Kok, she is a very young singer. But sings very well.
Woof. :P

Have you listened to Pentatonix's version. Very different, Matt does not go as low as Geoff but still a great pereformance 😊

Van Canto certainly has an interesting sound.
