TESTIFIED ALL STARS: Leah Charles-King learned she had Bipolar after watching Eastenders

Hi there, my name’s Leah!
I’m a TV and radio presenter and I’ve been in the public eye for over 20 years. 7 years ago my world changed when I had my first “manic episode” and subsequently learned I had bipolar.
Prior to that I’d been misdiagnosed for several years as suffering depression.
Nobody believed I could have a mental illness, not even my doctor believed me when I said I “didn’t feel right” and fobbed me off on several occasions.
But then I recalled an episode of Eastenders where the character Stacey Slater begun to act differently. Her behaviour radically changed. In the storyline, Stacey was eventually diagnosed as Bipolar and I identified with this.
It was at this moment I realised I had bipolar. Now I just had to convince my family, friends and GP, that I needed help and fast!!
This is just a snippet of my journey. I’m out of my comfort zone speaking about this in public due to fear of stigma.
