Hi! Just wanted to add my thanks to you for creating this set of videos. Many years ago I successfully built a relatively challenging kit but haven't tried another in decades. I suddenly got the urge and picked the Amati Bounty as it isn't too large and is relatively affordable. I find it strange that Amati have not addressed the obvious mistakes in the instructions etc, your videos are several years old but the kit I bought just before Christmas still has the exact same issues! Anyway, without your videos I would be lost so thank you. I note that there are a few other builders showing their approach to this kit but your help is the most comprehensive so I will stick with you!
I am really glad I can help. Well unfortunately Amati is working very slow when it comes to changes , that's why I believe they send me all the Models to point out the Issues ! LOL . Anyway I am sure you will enjoy this Kit and you will have a lot of Fun once completed
Hi John, your fantastic series of detailed instructional videos regarding this beautiful model are out of this world. Thank you for that, Your videos inspired me to order this kit which arrived today. I can't hardly wait to get startet. Before this, I completed a model of the Artesania Latina Sopwith Camel which I thought was challenging but not out of this world. However, this seems to be a real challenge, which requires a lot of common sense to get it completed since the instructions (in italian, with a little booklet in english) leave a lot of guess work and gaps open for ones imagination but thanks to your videos, John, it should be an enjoyable "piece of cake". Also, big compliments to your inventive jigs and alternative options you created to get certain tasks sucessfully done with beauty (for example: instead of using the plastic pieces for the rear position lamps, you used colored epoxy filling them with instead, phenomenal idea). Again, thank you and greeting from Houston, Texas.
Thank you very much for your kind Words and I am sure that you will enjoy that Kit . My Videos might help you overcome some of the Issues this Kit have and maybe inspire you to do some additional Detail work . In Case you need Help, feel free to contact me . Happy modelling , John
Hello John, I don't know your Skill Level but, the Issues this Kit have can be solved from a advanced beginner and I think that my Video are also a Help and give Solutions for those Problems
Hi great video. The manual on the kit suggests to do planking on the deck before installing on the frame . What you think of this? Is any reason for doing this later on? Thanks
Thank you . Yes almost all Instructions tell you to plank the deck before installing , well I don't like it because as you see in my Videos , I do a kind of "Framing" around the straight Planks and that is easier for me to do when already installed . Sometimes you have a small Gap between Deck and inner Bulwarks and with my technique you can cover that up. Nevertheless , it's all a personal preference and based on personal experience , everybody has to find out what works best for him . Happy modelling, John
Ok, that can't be answered in general ! Please set first the Siding temporarily in Place, in a Way that both Cannon Loop Holes are parallel to the Deck. If done so, you will also get the height of the Transom. What I did later was cutting down the height of the Sidings and Transom until it was parallel to the Deck. I don't know if this is the correct Way, but for me it was the most logic Way to do it, since this Kit has so many fitting Issues.
Thanks for the great video. Without this, I think I would have given up before I started! I do have a few questions, in case you have the chance to reply: -First of all, how critical is the alignment of the frames? I found them really difficult to insert into the false keel, so I slightly widened the slots, but still they are not completely perpendicular to the false keel. Is that a problem? -Secondly, I managed to reshape the reinforcements at the front by following your instructions and widening and slanting the slots, but am not sure about the reinforcements at the back; it looks like these also need some minor reshaping in order to fit, is that right? -Thirdly and finally, it looked as though you sanded the reinforcements down to make a single smooth surface before adding the first layer of planking, is that correct? Thank you so much!
You are welcome and I am glad that my Video encourage your Spirit . The Answer to your Questions , #1 well alignment of the frames are always important but the Level of Quality is up on you , I think if you don't built a Museum Piece , slightly misalignment are acceptable . #2 as far as I remember the rear Reinforcements are correct .#3 Yes all the Reinforcements has to be sanded down , so that the Planks always lay flat on the Bulkheads . If you have any more Problems or Question, please let me know . Merry Christmas John
@@davaoshipmodeller Thanks so much for the quick and helpful reply. One followup question so far. I tried putting some cotton between the planks as caulking also on the false decks (for practice). How do you avoid the cotton from getting all fluffy and messy when you sand the deck?

At around 9:32, you have some marks on the transom, how far from the bottom are they marked?
