One of the best TOS episodes; but nearly all of them were good. Trelane's character is clearly the seed of the idea for what would become Q in TNG. If TOS had stayed on, it's possible Trelane would have appeared again, as well as Koloth, For, and/or Kang and Mara. Too bad we couldn't have seen Harry Judd, Cyrano Jones, and Pike's Number One again.
What a great episode! This actor also played a Klingon Captain name of Koloff I think the character was very well known in Klingon history and he later played on a DS-9 episode as that character "and did you really believe that was the only medium of instrumentality at my command?" great stuff
Trelane is 100% a child Q. Limited area playpen, a device to help him with powers, and parents scold him. Like he is in a nursery. He just doesn't know how to play nice with his pets & toys.
@@hannahmadden3573 Well, TNGs Q was a sociopath and was kicked out more than once. Its possible Trelane's parents were a "good" Q just like there are good and bad humans.
Im no a Star Trek fan, but I think this is a perfect villain antagonist example. A god like being who is just playing with you? That's pure horror there!
RavenRyy yeah you should check out the Q episodes of the Next Generation on Netflix if you have it. Q Is fantastic, similar to this character but much older and somewhat more serious in comparison.
He played the part of a Celestial child that bullied his specimens I did the same thing when I was a child You know get two big ants to fight each other it's common practice for kids
Always depends on the books in question. I once read one that explained that Q and Trelane were, at most, "childhood friends" at one point, but clearly distinguishable.
He's just a kid, for another. He's not a Q. He's just some adolescence from an alien race that is very different from what we're used to. There's a lot of these kind of species in The Original Series. They're not all inter-related. It's supposed to be a big universe. When you tie everything together it becomes smaller and smaller and smaller... The writers on TOS were often considering bringing Kor back whenever they did another Klingon episode, but they chose not to specifically because they felt it made the universe seem smaller.
In all of sci-fi, the TOS phaser is THE most badass. It makes your target just _go away._ No mess... no body to dispose... just gone. Of all the fictional weapons in all TV and movies, this is the one I want. Some might choose something flashier like a light saber or Alien pulse rifle. Gimme a good old fashioned 1968 phaser.
You all should look up Trelane (William Campbell) interview about playing the roll of Trelane. He plays the part excellent making it one of my favorite episodes. Says he wanted to play the part as "an English flop - you can't go wrong in that roll". Otherwise have seen him in Westerns with Kirk Douglas.
The perfect plot twist is one where the audience says, I didn't see that coming BUT now that I see it it makes perfect sense. This episode is a case study
I wonder if this supernatural entity has any connection to Q from Star Trek TNG, Like he said he had control of matter, energy and the ability to convert things into matter. Q continuum was a powerful entity as well that had access to make matter and even other lesser entities, could be a possible correlation between them.
1:411:451:501:521:54 This part got me 😂😂😂😂😂 and at 1:521:54 that sound like my uncles laughing and coughing 😂😂😂 All these part had me laughing in 2016, 2022, and now 2024 but in 2022 I got it on camera and showing this to my dad at 1:41 and also I did refaces on it
"Oh how absolutely typical of your species: you don't understand something so you become fearful." Trelane is a crazed fancifist, but he's quite right. We humans when we don't understand something tend to percieve what we don't understand in a negative way and often fool ourselves into thinking we do understand it in the process.
I loved ST. I can't believe I had to sign into YT to watch it because they said it's inappropriate for anyone under 18 years old. It's a shame that those at UA-cam have become a bunch of Snow Flakes ready to melt at the moment something is offensive to some politically correct weak minded folks. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya
anyone here ever read the book Q Squared? i don't think it's canon but in it they spell out Trelane as a Q and explain why he is called Trelane, it's a GREAAAATTTT book written by the same author who gave us Imzadi, Peter David.
Actually that gentleman transported Kirk to the outside of his protective domains onto the planet’s toxic and gassy surface. Kirk was starting to suffocate from the gas....
Or Kirk might have remained where he was, but Trelane just removed his influence from Kirk's perspective. He would certainly have the ability to hide Kirk's form from the others, and still allow them to hear Kirk.
The planet Trelane is on is 900 light years from Earth. In TOS, it is the 23rd century. Trelane would only be able to see the 14th century on Earth, yet he mentions Napoleon? WTF?
Maybe "Quantum Leap" was right. Maybe time is bendable and not a straight line. Maybe the 23rd century touched another century or centuries and knowledge was transferred.
Trelane was absolutely demented and DeSalle should have known better than to attempt to use the phaser taser on Trelane behind him in his reflection in the mirror 🤦♂
Excellent episode here, The Squire Of Gothos, however this IS The Original Star Trek series, not that silly, cheessy next generation stuff garbage everybody keeps refering to here.
Ahhh yess. Long before the pedophiles of entertainment exposed more of themselves for their flocks of Sheeppeople who so greatly support them all, there was the original Star Trek. Nicceeeee.
Trelane's occasional American pronunciations sound quite jarring to my English ears; e.g. "ex-zample", "inqurees". I was disappointed by the anti-climactic frankness and puerility of "[...] very, very, angry."

You meant Harry Mudd.
In one of the video games he does come back and recreates world war 2

RIP William Campbell.. A really good bad guy actor!
"Hmmm. I see. This won't kill... and this will. Why this is DELIGHTFUL! This could kill millions!"
Brilliant character, played brilliantly.
Yes I agree.
Just realised that the other Q in Voyager [Quinn, as he's calls himself] does the same hand gestures as this guy.
I suspect that's deliberate. Since it's clear Trelane is most likely a Q.
@@kettch777 Except we saw that Trelane's parents were mature adults, not unruly children showing ruthless cruelty.
@@hannahmadden3573 Well, TNGs Q was a sociopath and was kicked out more than once. Its possible Trelane's parents were a "good" Q just like there are good and bad humans.
Similar, but not quite.
So did the other Q in Deja Q...
Doesn't make them the same character.
Great episode. In all the episodes in the history of TOS, this planet was actually one of the few that lacked oxygen on its surface.
Im no a Star Trek fan, but I think this is a perfect villain antagonist example. A god like being who is just playing with you? That's pure horror there!
Coincidentally this idea was applied to a recurring antagonist in The Next Generation called, Q.
RavenRyy yeah you should check out the Q episodes of the Next Generation on Netflix if you have it. Q Is fantastic, similar to this character but much older and somewhat more serious in comparison.
Just like Q!
He played the part of a Celestial child that bullied his specimens I did the same thing when I was a child You know get two big ants to fight each other it's common practice for kids
I can see Trelane as being part of the Q Continuum.
No, he isn't. That's nonsense from the books.
Always depends on the books in question. I once read one that explained that Q and Trelane were, at most, "childhood friends" at one point, but clearly distinguishable.
LBF522 - I can see him as Liberace
As q was based on him, it is never stated on the show but implied to be so.

"fop" is the word you want here, not "flop".
For I shall be very, very angry 😠 love it 😊
- Darling, stop playing with lesser life forms, now !
- ... Yes mom...
Wish we could had another episode with Trelane.
Trelane, that is not a toy!
Another classic TOS episode 👌
The martian in bugs bunny cartoons: oh that makes me angry, that makes me very angry indeed!
Everyone's comparing this guy to Q. I keep thinking of Robbie Rotten and this guy performing We Are Number One.
Catherine McBride Robbie Rotten + Q = Trelane.
Trelane would have had a blast with Klingons.
In one of the Star Trek Books, Trelane is part of the Q Continuum.
This guy played a Klingon later on. His role here suits him more haha
He's an impatient toddler version of Q.
So... Q
This actor played Elvis’s brother in the film Love Me Tender & even sang on We’re gonna move.
He reminds me of Liberace
You took the words out of my mouth! I read that was deliberate on Campbell's part.
Wow! You spelled his name correctly.
I wonder if there are any recordings of Liberace playing a harpsichord?
That's what I thought as a kid watching this for the first time.
What a totally talented musician Liberace was.
Too bad he chose to live as a homosexual.
That stuffed M-113 creature was probably worth a fortune. They're extinct.
william campbell's great performance (general trelane).
He also played Koloth in The Trouble with Tribbles and DS9's second season episode, Blood Oath
Retired.

Trelane is very useful in Star Trek Timelines
That sound effect is the same as the one used with the Eymorg technology.
I like pulling out a good trek quote when appropriate. Doubt if I could pull off, "Tut Tut Tut."
Completely awesome

Me too. My fav Q ep is the one where he tested Riker.
"Q Who" has Q and the Borg. Doesn't get better than that.

Classic Trek has no homosexual propaganda... hence, not appropiate for young people.

you can still hear him coughing when the camera is on the crew, so i guess that suggests he is indeed very near or in the same place still.

Q-Squared!
I wanna speak exactly like Trulane when I grow up. Isn't that intriguing?
I liked Majel Barrett-Roddenberry she was a classy tall long haired queen of beauty!
Looks like Lt. Cdr. Finney was part of the landing party, in a blue shirt.
Where in the studio Wardrobe Department did they find that coat?
In what other films was it used?
I always thought this guy's character was fashioned after Liberace...
Was Trelane a type of Q for it time! Just wondering here! lol
In a Star Trek novel it's revealed that Trlane is a Q!😊
Was he modelled on Liberace?
That's totally a Q predecessor and only a little less awesome.

How is it no matter where they go in the universe, everyone looks human
They had no budget for makeup.
not only that, they all speak perfect English.
Trelane was absolutely demented and DeSalle should have known better than to attempt to use the phaser taser on Trelane behind him in his reflection in the mirror 🤦♂
He did fine in this episode but he makes a weird Klingon.
we,i mean I,quite interesting
Yup he’s a Q alright 👍
A lot of people think Liberace was a guest star on Star Trek. Apparently that is not quite accurate?
❤
Anyone else think Jonathon Majors based his recent performance as Kang on Trelane?
Suchness
Anderson who never grew up.
I'm sorry but I got blind sided at 0.05 and forgot what I was doing!
Roddy McDowall was originally wanted for the role of Trelane but it was feared the character might appear too "effeminate".

Donald Trump's first appearance on TOS!
