Kirk and Spock are transported through the portal to the 1930s Great Depression era, where they steal clothes to better blend in (The City on the Edge of Forever)
What about the scene in The Trouble With Tribbles when Kirk opened that overhead bin door and got buried under that avalanche of Tribbles! ua-cam.com/video/Bprgl_4z6gY/v-deo.html
Watch it again but only watch Nimoy's face. The amount of subtle expressions he uses are wonderful. Most actors today when they play vulcans come across as either cold, bitchy, robotic or vapid. Nobody comes close to giving this character the depth that old Lenny did.
I think started when Nimoy stepped away after the movies. Saavak, Cybock, or Spock's dad all showed the same skill Nimoy first had to figure out himself.
We were watching a ground breaking show about space and exploring new worlds , yet the few shows when they returned to Earth were some of the best of shows . I my mind anyway ? Fascinating Captain . Dan from Canada out .
I'm glad they didn't go with Harlon Ellison's script about the murderer, he said he hated this scene with the rice picker joke but Ellison was more into extreme drama and tragedy whereas Star Trek as a whole was a mix of drama, comedy and adventure.
Ellison is a talented writer, but he isn't a television writer and his script reminds me of his Outer Limits episodes. Strong ideas, but not such effective TV. The filmed 'City On The Edge Of Forever' is a more focused story.
Must be 18 or older to view this clip. What?!? One of the best episodes of TOS. Time travel and a young Joan Collins. Kirk always got the prettiest women, from any planet.
the timeline adjusts. it is only certain major points you don't want to change. some homeless guy being vaporized 99.99999999999% of the time will not have any change to the timeline
Second season episode A Piece Of The Action to in which actor John Harmon who was also in as he also was in this episode, City On The Edge Of Forever. You may recall, he was the one who said you expect to eat for free or something? Ya gotta listen to goodie two shoes there. In the second season episode, he was on the phone with Oxsmiths and was transported saying, Tell ya what I'm gonna do, me and my boys, were gonna hit ya! Realizing whare is now at, he said MOTHER!
Perhaps it is explained but how is it the Guardian of Forever provides them with the ability to travel through time to the planet Earth? I don't know what planet the Guardian is on but surely it's nowhere near Earth and this magic robotic doorway would not know the first thing about Earth. Again maybe it's explained but probably not.
Watched this episode on MeTV the other night. I believe they cut out this whole chunk of dialogue involving Kirk's "Chinese" claim and the "rice picker comment". I suppose not considered acceptable in our "woke" age.
I’m Asian and this scene was so racist but it was also hilarious. I don’t think they meant it to be offensive or racist. The culture was very different back then. But still… they’d never get away with that today lol. 😅
They wouldn’t get away with it today because of racists like you. Why is this racist? Because Kirk, needing to explain the alien standing next to him, chose a race of people who would be the most unfamiliar to the police officer? Is it racist when Data explains “I’m French.” to the people suspicious of him? Or is he claiming to be a part of a culture the person he’s speaking to doesn’t understand, and therefore would blame his oddities on being French, or Chinese, rather than being odd. The only people being insulted in these scenes are the Americans who aren’t smart enough to realize “he’s not Chinese, and that’s not a Frenchman.” Read a book you uneducated zoomer, your parents must be ashamed of you; we all know asian parents demand excellence from their kids and you’re a straight up failure. “WAAAAH RACISISIST!! HIS JOKE HURT MY FEEFEES!!!” Yeah, I don’t care if I hurt your worthless feelings. They don’t matter you racist trash.
Well, that’s because they’re not smart enough to understand nuances and think everything is racism because they’re all uneducated, heterophobic, racist, bigots.
The Chinese rice picker line has been conveniently removed from televised reruns. Big Brother is watching and changing history, making you think their way. Not racism, just TV for Gods sake.
I just watched it on Heroes and Icons last night, glad to say full scene. Me Tv cut it out a few weeks ago. These days I feel like we are all living in a Twilight Zone episode, I hope it ends well.
Kirk and Spock were a comedy team and didn't even know it......
"Oh yes, it's quite untidy. Here, let me help you"
LOL I love how he delivers that line
And, then, BOOOOM
Spock really studied human linguistics more after Dr. McCoy said "hoochie coochie coo" on Talis 9.
He got his head caught in a mechanical rice picker.....LMAO.
"He's *obviously* Chinese"
Anne R. Tremblay always knew Spock was asian
A mechanical rice-picker
Was Kirk hoping that old fashioned racism would explain away Vulcan ears! LOL
elnombredelarosa I always knew Spock was Jewish
Spock does look like he’s Asian
This was the funniest scene in the entire series. They should have done more stuff like this.
I love Kirks reaction in "Patterns of Force" when Spock tells him "You should make a convincing Nazi."
What about the scene in The Trouble With Tribbles when Kirk opened that overhead bin door and got buried under that avalanche of Tribbles!
ua-cam.com/video/Bprgl_4z6gY/v-deo.html
the music accompanying this scene is priceless. LOL!
Did the Star Trek music in 1930s style
Originally used in The 1st season 's "Shore Leave ", where Captain Kirk and his old Strarfleet nemesis were fighting.
There's just something about 1960s sets and their designs. So unique looking.
Watch it again but only watch Nimoy's face. The amount of subtle expressions he uses are wonderful. Most actors today when they play vulcans come across as either cold, bitchy, robotic or vapid. Nobody comes close to giving this character the depth that old Lenny did.
EXACTLY my observation... I agree!!!
You forget. Spock is half human too.
I think started when Nimoy stepped away after the movies. Saavak, Cybock, or Spock's dad all showed the same skill Nimoy first had to figure out himself.
No other vulcan beats Spock!
Couldn't say it better myself
"perhaps the unfortunate accident I had as a child...", "THE UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT HE HAD AS A CHILD" 🤣 dead, I'm dead🤣🤣
Lol! I lost it at mechanical rice picker
MagicalHannah12 i wish they made more star treks ..way more than more honey mooners
I love how the composer rearranged the Alexander Courage theme in a whimsical way.
At 1:18, Spock realizes: We're going to jail......
From the first season City On The Edge Of Forever, everybody's favorite episode.
Not my favorite episode but it was very good.
Except Harlan Ellison. Lol.
My favorite is the Doomsday Machine, lol
This scene is a Star Trek classic 😂. First time i watched it I was in stitches 😅
"My friend is obviously Chinese! ... He caught his head in a mechanical rice picker." So is Kirk. Look how narrow his eyes are!
Mechanical rice picker.............cracks me up every time. 🙃
We were watching a ground breaking show about space and exploring new worlds , yet the few shows when they returned to Earth were some of the best of shows . I my mind anyway ? Fascinating Captain . Dan from Canada out .
Apparently there is at least one Vulcan who is capable of fibbing.
Vulcans lie all the time, they just figure everyone will buy that they don't.
onday'tay entionmay ulcansvay ielay
For those who can't read the above, it says: Don't mention Vulcans lie.
Spock didn't fib. He was just coaching Kirk on what might be a plausible explanation.
Spock would reason it was “logical “ to fib at that time.
Love the curious onlookers
This clip is troublesome on so many levels and should be edited for today's sensibilities. Just kidding , what a great scene. I love it.
Dont. Give. Them. Ideas...
I'm glad they didn't go with Harlon Ellison's script about the murderer, he said he hated this scene with the rice picker joke but Ellison was more into extreme drama and tragedy whereas Star Trek as a whole was a mix of drama, comedy and adventure.
Joey Lock ellisons original script simply wasnt star trek. wouldnt have worked.what we seen broadcast was a truly beautiful story.
Ellisons script was garbage. The shooting script was far superior.
It was changed to fit an hour long tv show. Ellison was upset sbout thrm changing the script.
Ellison is a talented writer, but he isn't a television writer and his script reminds me of his Outer Limits episodes. Strong ideas, but not such effective TV. The filmed 'City On The Edge Of Forever' is a more focused story.
@@herbpetrillo163 Wasn't star trek? In that case it would've fit perfectly as an episode for Discovery. hahahahahaha
Definitely not Kirk's finest hour.
I love it when on this, or any show, if they steal clothes or take clothes off someone else, they always fit perfectly.
" Got his head caught in a mechanical rice picker " . LOL
I laugh in the part where Spock tells the police officer here let me Help u more here let me help u go to sleep
And he’s so smooth pulling off the neck pinch that a lot of people don’t see it coming, like this guy.
Captain kirk.🤩😍
1:58 “well darn we ran out of places to hide in the set Batman”
This is a really good scene.
Must be 18 or older to view this clip. What?!? One of the best episodes of TOS. Time travel and a young Joan Collins. Kirk always got the prettiest women, from any planet.
My favorite episode from TOS.
" ... a mechanical rice-picker ... " 🤣
They just ran right around the block to where they started.
The outdoor street (backlot) sets they used at the time.... weren't that expansive. ;)
Theft and assault in the space of a couple of minutes. A fine, upstanding bunch, the Star Fleet officer corps.
love this
When TOS suddenly becomes a comedy sitcom
Spock was being a complete smart ass here.
I love how he makes the smartass comments and doesn’t even come across as a smartass.
best god damn part in season 1
Or as Mel from Mel's Diner would say: "Who's your friend with the ears?"
Vic Tayback as Jojo Kracko from "A Piece of the Action"
I remember this, the only episode I've ever seen truly.
Spock stealing? Awesome.
In this episode, the thing Bones and then Kirk and Spock jumped through looked like a Statgate. Perhaps one used by SG1,? haha
Just another Saturday night out with my drinking buddies in the 1980's!
Watching this on MeTV and the rice picker line was cut.
Yes i noticed that too, however it's not cut out on the "Heroes & Icons" channel. 🖖
😂forgot about this scene. So funny.
"The unfortunate accident he had as a child...He caught his genitals in a mechanical rice picker....."
Dah di dah, dah dah dah di dahhhhhh.. .Di DAHHHH!!
You realize the ditches to the circle around the set right they went right back to the same two cans
Accoutrements. 😊
Spock and Kirk running around Mayberry.
How many times did the Enterprise visit 20th century Earth or aliens imitating 20th century Earth?
How coincidental!
0:05 I was gonna say how that sounded kinda like the Star Trek theme but then I realized how stupid that would be.
What if stealing those clothes changes the future?
the timeline adjusts. it is only certain major points you don't want to change. some homeless guy being vaporized 99.99999999999% of the time will not have any change to the timeline
The timeline has Super Writer Convenience Plot Armor.
It is always impenetrable...until a future writer gets writers block. 😂
They don't even broadcast this anymore without cutting it from "obviously Chinese" to grabbing the cop.
And then what happened?? (Actually, I know.)
So um, where did the full episodes go?
I watched this episode on METV awhile back and this scene was omitted......I wonder why??!!!
Because the children are uneducated and can’t understand nuance.
Wasn’t Kirk raised on a farm in Iowa? Surely he knew that there were no mechanical rice pickers in the early 20th century other than Chinese peasants.
Well, his companion there IS from China...
Oh, yes: SO simple...with NO problems...! (HaHa)
I love how rather than say Spock's ears are a costume or a medical condition, Kirk came up with the most racist excuse he could use.
Which is the episode where all the gangsters have Tommy guns and run everything ? Like here now. You know!
Second season episode A Piece Of The Action to in which actor John Harmon who was also in as he also was in this episode, City On The Edge Of Forever. Details... details!! haha
Hollywood magic
Watched this episode on MeTV the other night. I believe they cut out this whole chunk of dialogue involving Kirk's "Chinese" claim and the "rice picker comment". I suppose not considered acceptable in our "woke" age.
how is this inappropriate? I am open to a conversation.
I’m Asian and this scene was so racist but it was also hilarious. I don’t think they meant it to be offensive or racist. The culture was very different back then. But still… they’d never get away with that today lol. 😅

Yeah, I don’t care if I hurt your worthless feelings. They don’t matter you racist trash.
Kirk alwayz was a con man hehe
vkucan nerve [pinch!
Loved this episode. One of my favorites.
The PC crowd would get so upset over the Chinese and rice picker reference
Well, that’s because they’re not smart enough to understand nuances and think everything is racism because they’re all uneducated, heterophobic, racist, bigots.
What's funny is that people back in the day thought that Kirk and Uhura kissing was "PC". Ah...a moving target.
In a hilarious manner, it was a painful to watch! 😅
mechanical rice picker.. 😂
Don't link Jeremy Lin to this!
5 fingers of death!! Obviously Chinese!
Iment Stargate
watch an ad.....get 2 minutes of video. pretty much sucks
"A mechanical... rice picker!" Lol! It's sooo funny but at the same time, racist? Maybe I don't know. Is it?
well there are rice picking machines. they are called combine harvesters.
These 2 Jewish actors
This clip has a warning??? Pathetic
This clip was so freaking racist but The predicament they were in was funny
Obviously a BS story
The Chinese rice picker line has been conveniently removed from televised reruns. Big Brother is watching and changing history, making you think their way. Not racism, just TV for Gods sake.
just heard the full exchange on H&I's All Star Trek marathon
I recorded this on my DVR from BBC America, they left the whole rice-picker conversation in.
Just watched it on Netflix, no removal
I just watched it on Heroes and Icons last night, glad to say full scene. Me Tv cut it out a few weeks ago. These days I feel like we are all living in a Twilight Zone episode, I hope it ends well.
Think of saying someone is obviously Chinese today. How sad this world has become.
Lamest explanation EVER!!
🤦🏾♂️😑
The modern cancel culture is at it again....thus the scene between the 30's cop, Spock and Kirk is cut....oh brother! 😜
But it's right here, and it's been here up on youtube for 13 years. This canceling crap sure seems to be taking its sweet time.
