I think it looks amazing. What do you think?
Looks like a game with potential, I wouldn't want to get underwhelmed by a poor launch. That fate has ruined many games for me, and I hope this doesn't end up like that as well.
I’ve had this game on my wishlist for… 2 years? Very interesting & shows a lot of promise!
If it plays as advertised, we have a very good game on our hands. I just want good gameplay, but it looks pretty and sounds amazing
Looks amazing. Will it have 3D maneuvering (as in Nebulous: Fleet Command) or is it limited to a 2D plane?
@@MusicforNik it's a 2D plane only. No third dimension for movement.
Man, this is absolutely my dream RTS. Love the Homeworld/Expanse vibes. Hope to see some co-op elements. This could be an RTS for the ages if executed correctly.
I was so looking forward to Homeworld 3, but they put in Denuvo. so now Falling Frontier is my last hope for a good space RTS
if you're looking for homeworld/expanse vibes you should look at Nebulous: Fleet Command, its still in early access tho but a campaign is coming
When that orbital bombardment got going, all I thought was "Kharak is burning"
it's realliy realistic for how hard sci fi the ships look
anyone calling it "vaporware" or mad it hasn't come out yet needs to pounce sand. Indie games may take longer but this one is worth the wait.
So I spend a lot of time on the FF community. What Todd is doing is amazing. Especially for his first ever game hes worked on. Ever, let alone made. Hes learnt this all from scratch. Also the sound track from Scott Buckley is amazing.
Completely forgot to mention Scott. I first found his music through FF. It creates such atmosphere and really helps the game.
10:37 my main concern is that having too many systems means a lot of planets and a lot of micro managing, unless it has the option to automate certain actions so the player doesn't need to micro manage everything
I'm very curious how the balance between micro and macro management will be. The scale is great but takes away from the beautiful animations and unit models. Difficult balancing act to get right.
I'd say it might very well be this game is aimed folk that *do* want to micro manage everything, and that might be the point, much to the chagrin of those would don't want to get bogged down like that. (I personally don't mind.) But I could be very wrong and it could be balanced quite nicely too! I do agree automation systems that function at least as good as your competing AI opponents for things you don't want to manage would be smart, but would be the last feature I'd expect worked on if at all.
There is only one system. It's set in SOL our solar system. No other systems exist
The good news is, it's only taking place in a single star system. There's no multi-system empires you have to handle in game, you're focused on what's happening in your system and your system alone. That's not to say you can't make a star system with a hundred planets in the scenario editor though.
i'm pretty sure automated supply routes will be a thing but the dev has tried to make it easier by making it so ships only consume fuel when using their warp drive, however for the rest i think it might be quite micromanaging however i'm sure that ships could possibly have the option to automate on their own when in combat, but it seems the largest ship combat you could get is like an 8v8 ship battle (based off what i've seen) and i think balancing issues like these are probably why the dev isn't gonna release until 2025 despite the game looking this good a whole year before planned release
Exciting! The Expanse is only my all-time favorite Sci-Fi series
remember the Cant
This game and nebulous fleet command are both very expanse esc another expanse game it's a bit old children of a dead earth both nebulous and children of a dead earth are very fun
@@dandafan I would say its understandable, that is an excellent TV show and a phenomenal book series, no wonder it had an effect on people. :)
@@neutchain7838 yea it's understandable but not really I think children of a dead earth is more expanse than nebulos because nebulos doesnt feel the same it's more slow so you can think
@@dandafan
Well if you think about it from a realism standpoint I think the action in the Expanse was artificially sped up. I dont mean the speed, I meant the ranges were rather short. In space you can literally see your enemy coming at you days before they get there lol I was surprised nobody came up with the space equalivent of grapeshot in that universe. Imagine a missile that act like a cluster bomb, you shoot it at your target and it releases a couple thousand ball bearing at those speeds. They had no shields, they would've annihilated those ships with it. There is no friction in space, you could fire railgun slugs at light seconds distances it would not loose energy.
Names like Coventry, Berwick and York suggests the developers are fans of Royal Navy history
he is an aussie
@@TheBrenene True, but we also don't have much of a navy. Nor much of naval history for that matter. I myself, find myself looking towards the British Royal Navy when admiring history. With some respectable nods to the American Navy to boot.
I can already see huge potential for a halo mod if this will get mod support
Good point!
or star wars or just any sci fi space franchise
BSG and The Expanse are the two ones the Discord is hyping
Please bsg
The Expanse: Modern naval warfare in space
FF: WW2-era naval warfare in space
not exactly irl warships like this in hard sci fi would have guns like that mounted and such.
as a hard sci fi nerd I love the guns and turrets it's realistic and doesn't cover every single part of the ships I would say these ships irl could be made and are very realistic to how you can mount guns on the top, sides, aft, and bow sections which i love and would irl happen this is like a more realistic look of what the expanse could look like then again it's not a hard sci fi or realistic game but the ships mostly do in the regard.
@@koiyujo1543 Everything used to be lasers then we got kinetic pushed in a lot of franchises and it got popular, people jumped on that bandwagon that lasers were stupid and made no sense. Now we're slowly drifting back to hurr durr they'd have fusion power so lasers are the only things that make sense, kinetics are primitive and would never get used. These shifting trends are so stupid though, no one bothers to stop and think. It would more likely be a combination of laser, kinetic/flak and guided missiles. Lasers still make the most sense for close-in point defense and missiles will probably always make the most sense for the longest stand-off engagements, the only thing that would really vary much is the kinetic mid-layer between.
Lasers would actually probably be the best long-range weapons in space combat (assuming no FTL exists), as the shot will have no warning that it’s coming. The warning is coming at the speed of light… but so is the laser itself.
@@zanaduz2018 It's not about how fast the laser travels. It has virtually no mass and bleeds energy in *literally* all directions by lieu of the fact they widen in all directions. Laser weapons are cones. Missiles don't care how far they've travelled, their payloads are the same. This is what The Expanse realizes, it's why missiles are the default because they have for all practical terms infinite range. The next layer is railguns because they essentially can't be dodged or out-maneuvered under 1000km, then the third layer is point-defenses which are limited to about 5km. Lasers would be within the point-defense domain.
Looks like an amazing game if it ever gets finished. Been burned a few times on early access titles, leaving me to only look and wait these days. Fantastic job showcasing the game's strong points and very wise assessment regarding some of the shortcomings. You're born to do this. Nice job.
I smell another spectacular failure, hehe. You better start putting asbestos on your chairs, fanboys.
@@vladcrow4225 what the fuck is wrong with you?
I have wanted an rts on this area of sci-fi for a while. Nebulous was my only option at the time and now we have this
Was going to see who else brought up nebulous, an excellent game
Starsector ?
ohhhh I cannot wait for this one, thanks for the heads up.. This one is right up my alley
Falling Frontier + Nebulous: Fleet Command + Nexus: The Jupiter Incident are like the Hard Sci-Fi Triad.
Wow that looks amazing, added to wishlist!
I dont belive this game. I will believe once i play it. I am tired of been scammed by space sim games.
You don’t believe in proper English either by the looks of it
The game looks awesome. Show some support to the devs.
@@alexanderginader3770 guess you only learnt how to be a douchebag at school. Good for you bud.
Yeah man f space games and those greedy corporations fooling the little guy. Power to the people
Look at that neck beard
Id love to finally see a space game where everything doesn't automatically share the same frame of reference.
I've always loved Homeworld and I'm getting the exact same vibe from this. But I hope it goes above and beyond.
Oh man, that's superbe and intriguing.
Always wanted a "RTS-spaceships battle" game based on the Expanse style (i loved that show).
I will keep an eye on that one ! 👍
I have been so freaking excited for this to come out for so long now. I'm glad the dev is taking their time with it though!
You know, this gives me Freelancer (2001) vibes. Looks nice.
I also love they postponed it. It's done when it's done. I don't want a title rushed under pressure.
Cyberpunk and Mass Effect Andromeda showed that overcoming a bad launch is harder than postponing the game.
Aaaah ok, I thought it was in the universe of The Expanse, but it's actually a vibe ! Not that I complain, I love space RTS (regularly replaying Homeworld)
Oooh this looks fun!!
so a homeworld feel
game looks great, i will def keep my eye on it
Ship customization options is good, which drew some of us to your channel. Where you make ships and you go into explaining your thought process while doing so.
That's why, right now, Starfield is THE KING (and Queen!!!) of all space-games in the last 30 years... Are thousands of mods at Nexus for ships customization, the game itself comes with ships customization, DLC is on the way, the game is update constantly, has a NG+, great content... I only wish they could use the Elite Dangerous flight engine, cuz their own is miserable...
But, all for all, Starfield is, arguably, THE best Sci-Fi space game out there, in line with the "golden era" of Mass Effect...
Maybe because the game designers were not illiterate kids, woke, and members of a #diversity# team, all with 5 mums...
Ok lets have a sweepstake on a bet as to how many people will name some of their ships Rocinante
Can't wait for this game!!
So excited for this! I've been waiting for this before the mediocre launch of Homeworld 3!
The back ground character of the intro is perfectly synced to what he said lol
Nice looking game can't wait for it to come out. Bring back memory of Nexus: The Jupiter Incident 👍✨
There is a game similar to this, it's called Haegemonia: Legion of Iron, and was made by the same devs who made Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
this looks good. if it is good, im going to upgrade my pc to play it. ill wait for the lauch and reviews, tho.
Looks amazing. The mechanics being varied isn’t an issue as long as it’s meaningful.
Probably one of the closest game to Sword of the stars. Can't wait to play demo.
Hoping it pans out! Been looking at the development from time to time and it's nice seeing him creep towards his vision.
Crazy how solo devs are making these levels of games while AAA struggle
I'm so excited for this game.
It's not about details but overral feeling/experience you build from those details. Sometimes for the sake of gameplay it's wise to cut them (so many things can go wrong). Sometimes they blend perfectly and organicly.
Resupplying and unloading will ABSOLUTELY MATTER. Not just through gameplay but also through viewer engagemwnt and social media shares. With the amount of detail in this game, cinematic player experiences will help promote it to the moon.
This looks trully great.
i found this game just recently but it looks really good
This game is the announcement simulator, the trailer simulator, the delay simulator
yessss i want this
Ship design is pretty exciting
With all the details it will make the game more immersive and lesss boring. Think of that !
5:40 This is why most of the times I play on easy, and I don't play multiplayer, simply because I just want to stare at the small stuff that usually stays on the background when you have to worry about not losing the game
Ive said it before and i will say it again, This is what games should be. I have waited sooooo long for this, and i know i have to wait another year atleast, possible more, but my god am i willing to wait. Need this game in my life, hopefully the dev can get some sort of MP from it as well. Maybe just a 1v1, but that would be so cool.
The UI is chef's kiss.
This really looks like it will scratch my space game itch.
A number of great-looking games are coming out early this year.
Starting to remind me of The Crust and Homeworld.
Was hoping for new info, saw this months ago.
If the game's focus is on scienece and guides it towards a great story, gameplay, and the complexity of operating in space, I'm interested.
Mh, I dont know. I really had hoped that they would have done something similar to "Ephemeris" (but maybe not as colourfull) and "Nebulous: Fleet Command". Bit more realistic fighting, realistic scale... Single ships matter a lot... Will wait for more infos on this one.
The level of micro-management in this game is similar to the intricate mechanics found in complex games like X4: Foundations.
The trailer had a strong homage to the opening scene of the old Microsoft game Freelancer, still my favorite game ever.
Check out Privateer, old 90’s game. Pre freelancer.
In the words of the great Philip J. Fry: Shut up and take my money!
Seems a lot like Nebulous Fleet Command, but with sleeker, longer looking ships.
So yeah the game looks super good and realistic. However, I found myself asking, "what exactly is going on? What exactly am I looking at? What was the purpose of the decisions made and actions taken?"
lets just hope it's not indicative of a problem by the fact they added that sound to the rocket launch on a moon so small that Usain Bolt can reach within 1 mph of it's escape velocity, so it obviously can't hold an atmosphere to transfer sound.
at 14:25, the invisible hitboxes hitting each other and the ships just instantly stopping and bounching looks very bad, i hope they fix that for release
I believe a previously released trailer showed ships actually colliding (with the appropriate results), so there's a good chance this here was just more alpha version weirdness.
These guys need to do a crowdfund so they can hire more devs, SpaceNerds from StarCitzen will make it so... Let's Go
as a hard sci fi nerd I love the guns and turrets it's realistic and doesn't cover every single part of the ships I would say these ships irl could be made and are very realistic to how you can mount guns on the top, sides, aft, and bow sections which i love and would irl happen this is like a more realistic look of what the expanse could look like then again it's not a hard sci fi or realistic game but the ships mostly do in the regard.
So in essence a Terra Invicta without the Earth stuff, but more options in space and easier to control ships?
No I wouldn't say Terra. Terra has a lot of infighting on earth first. From what I gather you get a planet (Earth or Mars) and go from there
you don't always have to win a game. you CAN in fact smell the roses for a bit.
"We've seen so many times that a game gets rushed out the door and then it falls flat!" R.I.P. KSP2
Yes with KSP2 it's very sad. Didn't know this was going to apply to KSP2. It deserves so much better
Weeee. Traveller the RTS
3 Game got me hyped, Falling Frontier, Frostpunk 2 and Manor lords...and hopefully they wont screw up Homeworld 3
The music fits perfectly, gave me goosebumps. I'm so excited about this, but 2025. Good things come to those that wait, I guess 🇦🇺
I hope this game will be out . Still , is it a game that could be more easy in term of manipulation but complex on his gameplay level . An example is that Nebulous Fleet command is a great game but it"s complex who required to play the training mode before attempting to play the different mode . My own personal opinion it's going to be a mix of Sins of a solar empire , Nebulous Fleet command and a bit of Battlefleet gothic armada . I have question that may angered many but do we have the mods ?
Wishlisted.
Breachway is being made by a completely different development team. We share the same publisher, Hooded Horse. Publishers always are publishing multiple games at a time. It's like book publishers. They may publish many books from different authors.
Oh my this looks AMAZING. And I totally agree with you--take as long as you need to release the game as it should be...we don't need more NMS's.
also they said STL in the game trailer travel not FTL it means slower than light so I haven't heard of a ftl drive yet
homeworld vibes
Remember the Cant
First time hearing about this
it's realliy realistic for how hard sci fi the ships look I could see these being a thing irl and the ships aren't covered in guns all over like those in ww2 I mean the guns are for close range or medium range combat which irl you would have gun turrets for railguns and such that would look like those or similar to those in FF even if many says this is WW2 in space I highly digress sense they have PDC's or CIWS and Anti missile launchers for PD and we also have VLS launchers and side mounted guns and such and many options for these ships and as a hard sci fi space nerd myself I could definitly see these being in the expanse for how realistic they look even if this game wasn't made to be hard sci fi the ships indeed do look that way even if this is a sci fi RTS.
Hoping for a slightly sillier 4x light rts which is more between 40k and battletech in aesthetic.
With UAD style starship and mech buiding.
You've already played the Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 game? and similar?
A new entry to the niche only Nebulous, and Avorion could only scratch, nice
If you go back further, to another hardcore hard sci-fi game, that is an influence, it is Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
The only other game that is similar to this is Homeworld 3, which is more classic rts, with your economy being local resource collection rather than supply line across the galaxy.
What? This looks like a Home World reboot!
gostei pra caramba!
I don't believe in rushing a game to release, but is anyone else just tired of waiting on this one ;-; I want it so darn badly!
when is it coming out tho?
Omg I wonder I'll like this more then ixiom!
Imagine a game where there is a significant chance your character will die if you juice too much in flight...
FTL - Warp Travel hopefully without travelling through Hell.
There's FTL in this? Thought it was just one star system.
@@janremongalura5713 Inter system travel itself could take years if not months if there was no ftl
Will it have Belters?
Is this based on the Expanse TV-series? It does look good.
no but people constantly bring up The Expanse because it's a clear example of a HARD Sci-Fi based show/movie versus SOFT sci-fi like (Star Wars).
When I think about Scifi RTS, the first two names that come to mind are the Homeworld series and Sins of a Solar Empire. Stellaris is a great game, but not an RTS. This game seems to share some DNA with Homeworld.
I hope this game is co-op
My guess is that the bombardment might count as a war crime 🤣
As pretty as these trailers look at first glance, any comparisons with The Expanse or KSP are out of place here, as it is quite hard to find any physics that are being depicted correctly here. If you are looking for "The Expanse - The Game" go for Terra Invicta.
I'll reserve my hype until we get to see any any actual Falling Frontier gameplay.
somehow, we have 1 RTS (Achron), that properly implements time travel and grandfather paradoxes, but we still lack any game, that gamifies time dilation and the problems that come from very-long-ping-times, that make things suddenly age a lot while they approach you, while they cease to age while accelerating away from you.
Acron already has ALL the necessary mechanics to deal with the relativistic effects of time dilation, and it is not really "time traveling into the past or future, creating changes in the past that slowly overwrite the present".
BUT as soon as you wormhole-teleport, this is essentially identical to time travel, which is why its not a real thing.
That sounds interesting but is it actually FUN? Or is it one of those things that people think they want, think is cool but doesn't make any of the gameplay more fun and better? It's like when I see comments on the Nebulous: Fleet Command forum and people complain about the ship speeds, how everything should be faster. Yes, to be more realistic, they could be going faster and ships should keep momentum when dead. But gameplay wise, would it really make it better? People already quit because they find the gameplay "hard". Making everyone zoom past each other and firing weapons from tens of thousands of miles away from each other would make it less fun and more people would quit in an already niche community.
Wow! Looks as if "Hegemonia: Legions of Iron" and "Nexus - The Jupiter Incident" married and had a child.
My only fear is that the single Dev is lossing focus of the game and "wastes" time on features like this bring container down to the planets animation and mechanic. This is stuff that you can patch in later.
At some point he needs to have a "finished" game and not get sidetracked by stuff like this. Yes there games that gets released way to early and completely broken. But there is also an equal amount of games that never gets released and the Devs simply get lost in all the nice stuff they wanna add.
I don't have an answer whats gonna happen. I am following this game for years now and i really really hope that it actually gets out in 2025.
when releasing ?
Looks like a high budget Nebulous fleet command
I'd say Nebulous is more about small ship action. It's much more micro than Falling Frontier. If you'd zoom in and take manual control of a battle in Falling Frontier you might end up with Nebulous.
Nebulous is also making Conquest mode which basically made it a Space Foxhole
as Stealth said, how combat plays out is WAAAAY different. Nebulous is way more methodical. It plays out more like a Cold War Submarine hunting game but in space and using radar. There's more detail to how you move, why you move, when you move, what weapons you use and why, ammo, angles, etc. Not saying Falling Frontier won't have that depth but it clearly will feel different from the 2D playing field aspect. It will likely play out more like Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2.
the FTL looks like the worp, form 40k
Will you actually play it?
Yes, when it comes out.
