You gotta use two of these. I used 2 of the 15" versions and it blew my expectations away. I used one EV 18 powered sub at an event and should have brought my 15's
That thing sounded amazing! One thing that kind of bugged me was the thin wire going from the woofer itself to the terminal plate. Thin wire tends to cause subs to underperform but it might not matter with the short distance. I dunno.
Nice Video, most high dollar well known pa speakers need some type of modification, from time to time, you managed to save some money purchasing this cheap sub, good video and demo!!!!
As far as bang for the buck you could buy 10 of them and fix the box issues for the price of a reasonable subwoofer. Not worth the real estate if you want as loud as possible in a limited vehicle size, but a cheap permanent install with a wall of them would be quite formidable. They do seem better than the Skytec and QTX offerings, though I'm not sure about the driver's BL, Xmax or power handling. You could always try corner loading it, like I do with my two Eminence Kappalite 3012lf subwoofers.
I'd seen that sub and had been curious about it. Cool to stumble upon this review and find out the performance. I picked up a Yamaha 18" PA sub at the Peoria, IL Hamfest for about $100, so I think my bass needs are covered now!
Ohhh it gets better. I have a few of these and I had a Mackie Thump on top of one via Pole mount and it went RIGHT THRU the pole mount on the subwoofer. Luckily theybe been replaced with some iQ18Bs :)
Great review! I don't mind (and even rather enjoy) modifying cheap gear to make it more usable, so these subs seem to fit that bill perfectly. I wish I had known about these prior to buying my much more expensive subs!
How well 2 of these will do for a home cinema and playing music with a bherenger nx 6000, maybe fix the box or make a new more sturdy one?I have a low budget after a few mistakes
Maybe QC is hit and miss, because mine has been pretty bad. Any prolonged use at any reasonable volume and it starts snapping and popping until you give it time to cool down. I'm not even trying to fill a club with bass: I only use it in my ~300 square foot living room. Time for a driver upgrade I guess.
Can u show us how we should brase ours up? I have had one for about 7 years now as a subwoofer for my home theatre and i hate the box residence but been afraid id make it worse.
Thanks for this! I'm trying to find a "passable" sub for small dance parties (30 people room capacity), to pair with a Yamaha 300watt (150 RMS) 2 x 8" speaker PA system. Looking at the 15" / 700 watt MCM sorta fits the bill and budget... could you share more about how to braced it? I"m a noob but I'll know to look for speaker glue fixes now lol.
I brought these in 2023, same plastic parts but new bracing and backplate.... I added my own feet, steel recessed handles, new corners, new steel top hat/ pole cup, added screws to the front. They surprised me so much I have 4 (18")... plan on getting 4 more. REMEMBER People, you could always buy new woofers for this box.
@@nattralblaze Seems like a good box to buy just to throw different drivers into, experiement with different setups, port tunings and such without blowing the bank.
The sub probably took the power because the Crown XTI series aren't capable of outputting their rated power continuously it's a burst RMS rating. You say it cost $85 but to be honest you're better off buying a $200 sub used because there's way better subs.
What are the external dimensions of that cabinet. Newarks website lists three different dimensions for the 18 inch and two different dimensions for the 15 and 12..?
well what if someone built a custom enclosure from better wood and added a 1000watt plate amp to this Subwoofer i believe it would Kill for the price then or am i wrong?
@@FOHFILMS I just bought a new Mackie mix12fx mixer and a pair of used Behr. @@reggiew5639 of course! Yeah, those speakers won't really do the trick, especially if you are running bass guitar DI through them. A subwoofer like the one I listed would be perfect for your needs!
PA drivers don't move much at all. They have short magnets and thin surrounds, so probably a 2-3 out of 10. They're made to throw the sound as far as possible and not for bass.
for the price it was great! but in reality it sounds like crap extremely peaky and not very musical at all.. hard to distinguish different bass notes in some songs its so bad... but i think i might get one or 2 for in home.. at low levels i can probably flatten out the response with an EQ and make it sound good
I bought two of this 2 years ago and still have them they sound amazing and love them

Yeah the short distance would make up for that, you wouldn't want to run that for more than a couple meters i'd imagine lmao

Quite a thorough analysis my friend! Thank you for the review. I'm considering picking up a few of these for "emergency" backup speakers.
First time watching and I see a clip of my local pool. This is trippy haha. (Assuming it’s in Fairfax lol)

Okay
Could you please explain or draw out the bracing and how you did it because I’m considering buying this!

Fair test bro😊
wish you would have shown the bracing! im thinking of adding some bracing to my subs, should i just cross brace with dowels?
Did you add the reinforcements
Well he didn't have time
for 100$ I think it did great, from the video it sounded good. some drivers cost way more than that

Do these have built in crossovers or is a rack crossover recommended?
I had a propound one similar to that, after 2 weeks of abuse hardly any bass come out and it was mostly rattle
Nice work
How do these compare to say a Behringer b1800x pro? just curious, if i moded like you did would t be similar to a Behringer b1800x sub?
what are the sub brand?
Maybe you could lower resonant frequency by extending port tubes and get more low frequency. But I don't know how that driver would handle that.

seems to be better than skytec, but that's not surprising either

the baffle rattled because you played phil collins

From 1 to 10, what is the cone/driver excursion, with 10 being high? If there is a high number. do you hear port noise?
