Louis Rugg guides you through the nostalgia-inducing, gritty and cinematic sounds of LABS Cassette Synth. Made from recordings of an iconic Yamaha CS-80 played through 100 cassette players, these unstable, lush pads will bring instant depth to your scores.
LABS Cassette Synth was made using the same production setup as Spitfire Audio’s Aperture Cassette Symphony. Learn more about the project here: www.spitfireaudio.com/pages/a...
The Labs team is doing an amazing job. Thank you guys for offering this to us for free 🙏❤
"Cassette Synth is a CS-80 played through hundreds of cassette players"

I really like the direction LABS is going. Thank you SPITFIRE AUDIO & LABS team!
I'm gonna name my first born child "Spitfire López"...love you guys!
i truly cannot believe what this company provides for free. unique, inspiring, and USABLE sounds in a simple and elegant interface. just incredible. want to give you all a big ol KISS
The free stuff is awesome. Spitfire is everything.
Brilliant little brother to the Aperture Cassette Symphony!!
Every member of the LAB team should be awarded an MBE.
It was an interesting challenge creating the hardware for this project. Great to see such fantastic results!
This will be my go-to if I'm ever asked to score a film in 1985.
Staggering concept, gorgeous sounds. You guys ROCK.
Thank you Louis from such a great walkthrough.
Always an amazing work! Can't wait to start exploring.
this is also a phantastic instrument to ad subtil layers with fine texture under a piece. I just re-opened a project of a music-track for a little film project, that i had thought already finished, now i just added some very quiet, constant notes of cassette deck, while turning the variant-settings up and down... and , if you listen to the track, you don't realy realise it is there, but when i turn it of, it suddenly leaves a big gap.... phantastic.
Lovely textures. I love my BBC Orchestra and LABS. Thank you Spitfire for such amazing products.
Thank you for this video. Loved seeing behind the scenes. Very easy to watch this video.
Fantastic, just downloaded and auditioned it - fabulous, such rich textures and analog vibe to it, beautiful!👌👍
Wow. This plugin sounds amazing!!! Thank you for this incredible work as always. ❤
Thank you Spitfire, that sounds amazing!
Thank you for all that wonderful work you guys have been doing for years, I love all Spitfire products and the way you introduce them. You guys are real artist, congratulations to all your wonderful team!
Yet another awesome LABS release, you guys never disappoint, thank you so much. As a horror composer, I can see a lot of potential there for sure.
IIO ❤ Thank Labs for the unbelievable generosity and amazing quality.
Thank you Labs and Spitfire ! I actually havent tried it but thanks for all the work anyway, you breath life into the world
I love it! Just downloaded. Thank you 🙏 keep ‘em coming!🎉
It never ceases to amaze me how much y'all give us. Thank you this is brilliant stuff! Betting it pairs well with Polaris too. Going to find out!
Another absolute banger. Fantastic!
Great synths, definitely adding those.
I too want to thank you for these. Awesome stuff!!!
Wow, just awesome can't wait to compose some great scores
This is a fantastic addition to the LABS family.
And I admit that I am really slow, because it was only while watching this video that I *finally* deciphered the new LABS logo.
D'oh!
Keep up the good work!
That looks like A LOT of work! Thanks yall
This is really good and it blends amazingly well with Cassette Symphony, I wish there was more of it. Please consider making a premium version of Cassette Synth.
Free, good quality and just simply inspiring stuff !
Thank you so much Labs for giving us for free.. You guys are great!
not sure why your office is so cold that you have to wear a jacket, but - after being in a music project which relied heavily on the CS-80, I'm really enjoying this video......
Can I convey my sincerest gratitude to the Spitfire team for taking on board and, implementing what I have been hoping for, and suggesting for some years, to providing an incentive programme that allows people at all (economic) levels to benefit from these highly payment incentivised marketing drives. I think it is these gestures that differentiate Spitfire Audio from almost all other companies in their overall philosophies towards delivering their products in an equitable manner that benefits all in the manner for which they are worth. My highest respects and endorsement for your current, and past, philosophies and approaches into the future. It's a current of fresh air in an incredibly stifled and impersonal (modern) environment.
Sounds great! Thanks.
Thank you! It's awesome! Love it!
great as always
The Aperture Producitions, collaborating with LABS, on top of the new pianobook level... Amazing stuff!
Thank you Spitfire, you never disappoint.
My jaw just kept drppoing until it was below my belt line - and then you go like "well, that's everything that LABS cassette synth has to offer " 🤣
THanks for your walkthru and to Spitfire for making this available FREE!! As you played "Slow and Steady", I mumbled to myself that it sounds like Blade Runner. You stopped and noted that its very "Blade Runner-esque". 🙂 I'm headed over to the download page!
Beutiful sounds!
I wish the Labs instruments I download would show up in the LABS vst instead of randomly disappearing. Or at least I wish that repairing the library would actually repair it.
Got this today. It’s super.
Love it, gonna use it on my next single
You folks are doing amazing stuff, thank you tons. BTW, @ 3:50 I'm pretty sure you unlocked an achievement for the SNES Super Mario World ghost-castle-level synth.
The cool thing about the particular tape noise in this library is that it almost emulates the timbre of human breath (say blowing a woodwind) or the noise of a bow dragging across strings. It instantly makes the synth feel more analog and “real” 😁
Thank you!
Thank you Louis and thank you to everyone at Spitfire that makes this amazing collection available to the world. It is a gift.
Louis, thanks to you for this great demonstration and of course to Spitfire for providing us with another free terrific plugin. I am curious as I'm sure are other subscribers as to what controller and keyboard you are using during the video presentation?
Thank you Spitfire Audio for providing high quality libraries for free to everyone. Labs is too high quality to be free
Flat Battery is my favourite. The gritty high end worked nicely with the multiple tape smoothing, and the large room reverb. After the first two chords, I was expecting you to play Prodigy - Out of Space. Similar tones, but a bit richer in timbre and chord. I seem to remember Liam Howlett used the pretty lo-fi 12-bit Roland W-30 sampler and filters lot. Spool stabs is pretty too. I like it better with the mod wheel down, then it has a sound similar to the Noise Engineering models on Arturia's Freaks. The Bass model can make beautiful thin dusty fragile sounds like that.
Proper dope!
Sounds amazing! wanna try this stuff and create something cool! thank you very much labs team!
Very nice. 👍
Look. I have to say this from the bottom of my heart. I am a super happy Spitfire customer. And the fact that you keep releasing this kind of extremely interesting sound design stuff FOR FREE is amazing! I just can't say how awesome this is!
LUSHLY ORGANIC
This is dope
Wow, I wish all my m final mixes sounded like this!
Hail Spitfire!
Cassette season I see...updating my Logic Pro LABS template shortly! Stay tuned everyone! :)
This is the reason I have hope for the future. It is as timeless as I feel inside. Spitfire is the reason I never feel limited anymore.
🧡LABS 🧡 All anyone needs.
LABS 🙌✨
Looks interesting, just one, really pedantic observation. The promo artwork for this LAB shows a Jupiter 6 not a Yamaha CS80, Spitfire test? :D
How is this free?!! Amazing sounds.
Hi, thanks for the video! What USB controller are you using?
great great great
Anyone know what that midi keyboard controller behind Louis is? Thanks
I’m curious what expression controller that is?
Question for Louie .. do you use that Korg NanoKontrol 2 for orchestral libraries? Thanks for the demos 👍
what chords does he play at 4:40 they sound so majestic
Where do you get the manual faders, and how do they set up with an interface?
Great library as usual! My only gripe with the LABS instrument is not having a dark mode... which is saying a lot :) But seriously, I know it's free but all that white background... come on.
Agree. Very grateful for the LABS releases, but the white UI is a bit harsh on the eyes.
@@damo5791 exactly! My diamond eyes are hurting. Let’s hope they fix that. I imagine it’s not a very complex thing to do.
That’s a great idea! Definitely doable for the ‘vanilla’ UI, but probably too much extra work for the more branded labs releases.
Does anyone know what that midi controller is that he’s using for the modulation?
4:42 big up and charge 'Flat battery'
What is the controller you are using Louis? I would like that versatility while playing, thanks
Thanks , but what device is needed to use this plugin?
Whats the Fader controller you're using
Very Bladerunner!
Wow
5:27 CelloTron
I love everything you guys make, really high quality and it's going up every time. I really wish youcould look into redesigning the LABS UI though, it's an effort to go through sounds and parameters. Would be nice considering how nice the sounds are.
This dude explains the constructive criticism in detail.

W O W
Aperture labs? Am I hearing this right? Is Black Mesa making plug-ins now too?
Why does this sound like a killer alternative to the Mellatron?
What is that fader device you're using?
It looks like a Korg nanokontrol2
@@grahamtruckel Just couldn't get mine to work right with my Windows10 machine and my DAW. Too glitchy. Returned it and went with Monogram. Christian Henson did a great review of it last year! So easy to set up and use. Very happy with it!
I get a 404 message when clicking on the last url.
pages link broken
Enrich the impoverished with sonic textures.
The truth is out there.
This does not run on my systems.
why would anybody who has omnisphere buy labs ever ??? why can't you create plugins with huge number of instruments like omnisphere and nexus.
Thank you!
Thank you!
