Thanks sam, depending on what it was went for anything £100 per acre upwards. Good grazing, like the farm down the road, went for upwards of £140 / acre. That’s with no fertiliser applied and not allowed to apply your own either.
Great video James as always .yes fertiliser is gone mad and still going upwards but it is just such an important ingredient in growing grass and crops .I'm delighted you highlighted good prices will have to rise and it's great to make people aware that there is a big cost in producing food which up until recently consumers did not realise or appreciate. Farming needs enough people like yourself to highlight this good on you..
Exactly Gerry, we really can’t be without it no matter how much we would like to be. Rightly or wrongly the industry has been build around the stuff. It’s only right that the cost get passed on to the consumer, we can’t live in a society where arguably the most important part of the chain (the farmer) has to burden all the price increases and everyone else carries on as before. Food is a necessity and people need to understand that.
Nice ti see someone else from Leicestershire on here! Not sure where in Leicestershire you are but just subscribed to you! Great videos. I went through Burton on Trent on Thursday afternoon. The smell from the fire was rather unpleasant! Keep up the good work!
Hi Si! We are based just outside Kirkby Mallory if that’s familiar to you. I can imagine those minerals smell horrible when they get hot 🙈 look after yourself! 👍
Ah great video as always Mate. Yes fertiliser is a ridiculous price alright but we can't grow good crops without it. I just hope that we get good crops and get a decent price for them.
Grass keep is crazy money, we have some next door. No fert, we can't fert. Can't muck, can't mow, sheep only. It's a wonder we r allowed to graze it, and we'll over £100 acre
Thank you for the video James 👍 last Friday and Saturday 7 1/2 due to lending my trusty Defender to my mate to tow a tri axle trailer 13ft for his daughter's garden, and him slagging off my truck in the past, only not once but twice he didn't realize that he over loaded it 4 to 5.4 ton's load's when it's supposed to tow 3500kg !!! Even he was surprised as I was😬 and it still has a gearbox !!! Can't wait for those stupid vegans to complain having to spend even more for their food especially the cost of shipping it over !! Especially when they need a reality check. 🙂👍
Glad you doing well Calum! You can’t beat a trusty defender. Wouldn’t be without ours and pulls like a train, even if it is pretty uncomfortable at times. 😂
I will tell you what's crazy....Farmers paying that price in the first place.. 2nd,,farmers are ment to look after the land environmentally friendly as they always say....However fertiliser is NOT environmentally friendly, far from it.. It's one of the most damaging possible.. Also looking around the farm you have 1000s of tons of concrete, steel etc etc extremely bad for the environmental.. So this goes against everything the farmer is supposed to do/know... Crazy.............
Hi Mark, thanks for your comment. I’m not going to disagree about fertiliser being bad for the environment (which is why we are trying to reduce its use) however it is a fact that 4 billion people on this planet are alive because of fertiliser, so it’s a necessary evil in afraid. The structure of the industry is based upon its use and without it the world slowly fall apart. The food shortages we will see this coming winter will be a drop in the ocean compared to what we happen without fertiliser. As for our sheds they are all well maintained and likely to last for hundred of years. They are also used to house the animals and equipment that helps feed the world, arguably a far better use than if it was an Amazon warehouse or a theme park for example. They also on make up a minuscule percentage of the total farm average so therefore barely making and impact overall. I’m sure your likely to disagree however that’s just the way things are I’m afraid.
@@baldysfarm You play this down, like it doesn't matter...Like every farmer does..As for Amazon, they don't produce the world's food(unless I am mistaken? ) Farmers do!!! Farmers always,ALWAYS go for the cheaper option....There are other options out there,(even if they are more expensive)) but if everyone (not just Farmers)) went for the ""better""option rather than the ""easy"" option we wouldn't be haven't this discussion.... Farming has got worse+worse impacting the environment... Methane,Fertiliser,Concrete,Steel, I can go on+on where Farmers could of+should made improvements..... But they don't,,and say ""they are custodians"" of the land.......
Top Vid! Be interesting to know how much the grazing went for?

Great video ,8 out of 10 good week , great calf ,
Thanks Kevin, glad to here your doing well. 👍
great video once again! Apparently Rumenco have said they will be able to carry on production as two of the buildings havn't been effected by the fire
Thanks mate. I’m glad to hear that. It’s really sad when something like that happens in this industry so it’s nice to know they can keep going. 👍

@@baldysfarm I know Kirby Mallory!
Not too far from me and I get out that way with work quite often so I'll keep my eye out! 👍
Nothing sort high prices like high prices I think things level out just takes time. I maybe been optimistic but got to be. Great vids 👍
I think your right! Sooner or later it all goes bang and hits the bottom again and I’m sometimes I wonder whether that’s for the best.

Great to hear Gerry! We are in such a catch 22 with it, can’t farm without it and can barely afford to buy it.
@@baldysfarm that's it but this year will pass and things will improve again. They always do. I try to look at the positives and keep the head right ✅

Very similar here! It’s complete madness. No young person wanting to have a go has a chance when prices are like that.
