I work at a hibachi/sushi restaurant owned by a married couple. We will occasionally be short staffed in one area or another due to a chef/server/host position not being filled for that shift for one reason or another or if we get insanely busy with a full house and both of my bosses can work just about every spot. The wife knows how to cover hostess (which also does togo orders), waitress, sushi chef, main kitchen cook, and fry station. The only area she doesn't know how to do is the hibachi. The husband mostly covers for Hibachi if we need another chef, sushi, or kitchen cook/fry area, but he also knows how to manage tables and hosting. It's always good for a restaurant when the owners know how each area operates.
Not just in restaurants, any business where the boss/es can come in and cover is amazing. At my current job both bosses are like this. And I've had one other boss previously be able to come in and cover any position. Much respect from me and am/was happy to work for them
The owners of the hotel I'm working in either don't know shit or just don't care. They had a couple of hotels but sold every one except for ours which is beside their house. If my boss wasn't managing some things against the will of the owners, we would have to close within a year.
