Those are good TIPS. I just got done w/L. VOX & did Triples and PANNED sides slightly wider but not Hard Rt /Lft and true ,the EQ trick or Deeser used more strong on the outside VOX help support the Main Vox up the Middle. Makes it sound Thicker & yes use VocAlign or Dial it in w/ Melodyne manually.

It’s fun to be reminded of pushing an high shelf into (tape) saturation. Essentially, you’re re-creating the pre-phasis of encoding/decoding that was used to reduce noise of analog tape, right?

There's 2 things I struggled with for a long time. A good amount of airyness and vocal to music separation. Or sounding like they belong together rather than being two separate things being played together. The game changing tool for me was Ultravox. It's a compressor made for vocals where you control the air and if used on the mix bus, really helps to blend the music and the vocal together. Really simple to use. Even if not using it on the vocal track, it's my must have for the mix bus.

As for doubling and tripling vocals I had found that if you use a three different takes the vocal sounds too chorusey in the dense mix, even if locked by Vocaline. So I started to use one take for main vocals, and making left and right doubles from the second take by using micropitch and time shifting. Like that vocals sound tighter.
what's the difference of using the high shelf before or after the tape?
It changes the way the saturation works, very similar to how you EQ before a compressor. So if you are boosting top end, it’s going to saturate, or compress the top end more.

When you double or triple the lead vocal are you having the artist record stacks for the vocal (this is what I'm assuming), or are you using a doubler plugin or some other technique to create them?
