We used to call this a block off wood in my shop class days
That's exactly what I thought!

Yeah I usually use a block of wood but the problem with that is when the wind blows the door open the wood drops and I’ve been locked out many times
@@rudyramirez9577 welding wire in said block hooks the hinge my friend, up next on underfunded trade school lessons.

"Why is this door being propped open? You know we can see that from our desk, right?"
Literally what I was thinking. I worked security and certain doors were not to be left open, but some highly intelligent individual or group of people, decided that those doors needed to remain open. I got so much flak because I had to do my job and tell them that the doors were to remain closed and locked when no one was around to monitor them. Their response, but we need it open so we can come back in after we leave for several hours. Idiots, just idiots, that made my shifts that much harder.
The worst part was it was always the same people doing it, and they would tell others it's ok to leave the doors open. I'm so glad I'm not in security anymore.
@@narnian19 as a carpenter I'll be in and out the doorway for about 30min-1hr getting materials and equipment then I'd just close it but having to open the door 20times will make it 1-2 hrs
@@LucidDream34 get over it mr carpenter. Your job isn’t to detract from the security of a commercial property. Consult the owner beforehand.
😂😂

I’m sure the owner already knows if a construction crew is coming..
Shout-out to the inevitable event of someone seeing an open door and trying to force it shut without noticing the bright green chock in the hinge, likely damaging the hinge before the chock finally breaks or giving up to get help. Oblivious people that decide "do it harder" instead of "look to see what's obstructing it" are everywhere. An accompanying flag or sign to draw attention to the chock when in use would be quite nice. A magnetic sign or small flag that inserts into the chock itself that pokes out enough for people to see; something like that. Something that displays when in use could be good for simply informing others so they're aware of what's happening at the door and monitor for policy/security reasons if it's in place for a long time.
My door was jammed by the security magnet on top and my wife couldn't figure it out. I had to grab shorts to stand in the doorway. As I was approaching she hauls back and kicks the door slamming the magnet piece into bits like wtf did you think it was Casper the ghost keeping it open? Wtf went through her head in that moment idk. Ffs
They make a rubber, wedge- shaped version of this too! It’s called a door stop… 😂
Ah yes a door stop works perfectly when the bottom of the doors 4 inches from the ground 🤡
@@A_wrecked_isle_Dysfunction boom! Gottem!
Or when maneuvering heavy items through the door and suddenly the door stop lets go and starts sliding.
Door stop is nicer because if someone pushes the door it doesn't do any damage
@@A_wrecked_isle_Dysfunction And it doesn't cause damage to the hinges or frame
Regular door stopper:
*Am I a joke to you?*
Yeah but you have to kick and adjust and then bend over when you are done to pick it up.. so yeah this is a way better idea
Going home on Friday? Well save time Monday morning when you come back! 😂
You wont be back on Monday...
Security personnel hate this one trick.
Terrible idea in today's society in regards to intruder prevention. Hey, do the safe thing, unlock the door.
No, we really don't. We just report it, and next you are going to explain to your boss why your company is removed from our Approved Tenders list.
@@Steelmage99 i put it in my contract that door has be manned the entire time im there doing work or labor is triple charged for time i wait for door to be opened guess you get to be my personal doorman
@@loganrench5680
It seems you have misunderstood my post.
If you, as an external sub-contractor, needs access to some of our facilities, that will of course be included on your access card/ID card.
If the door doesn't have a card-reader, you will be provided with a key.
This wont change that fact that you will not be allowed to leave doors open.
As for what you put in your contract, we really don't care.
All sub-contractors has to undergo a security and safety course before working at our sites.
Sub-contractors refusing to follow our rules will be replaced. Simple as that.
@@Steelmage99 you gonna hold the door open for me to push my toolcart through its not easy holding a door open and pushing a few hundred pound cart with one hand hence why i require the door to be manned while im there doing work
I have carried a wedge in my toolbox for the same purpose for decades...
Tip: Having a door handle in your tool box is also mighty helpfull if working in construction sites where doorhandles havn't been installed yet.
And here I've been using a rock this whole time. I'm such an idiot.
Also can damage your door frame if you try and close it while it's hanging on
Most hollow metal frames are built tough. It would shear the plastic off before one of those tools breaks a frame.
yeah, you have a door frame problem, and not a locking door problem then
@@calebosborn2231 not necessary true. I get damaged door frame all the time that won't close properly because the frame got damaged by placing a screwdriver between the door and the frame just like this. The frame gets bent ever so slightly to cause closing issues after it's done. Not recommended.
It will screw up the door dumb idea
@@El_Diablo_LI something solid would bend the crap out of a HM door, but this tool looks like it’d break after a few pounds of force.
A screwdriver or block of wood? That’ll do it.
How to get fired in 10 seconds from any company thats security conscious.
I charge triple labor rate for time i have to wait for someone to open door for me
And I've been using a piece of 2x4! If I had only known!
which brand do you use? i cant find a good & long lasting 2x4 to hold doors open
@@gameratortylerstein5636 I prefer select cut but ryam or Simpson works just as well
Lol i just put a pen or screwdriver between the 2 doors or frame so it doesnt shut.
That door has seen some stuff
I’ve always used an air shim under the door but this has my interest.
Works great until one of those cars access doors has an alarm on it that you don’t know about if the door is held open too long (sometimes a silent alarm)
Yep. My company has that.
I use these every day. They are great. Much easier then anything else. Compact, fast, and simple.
As someone who installed doors for 20 years I can say this will spring the hinge, basically bending it making the latch side gap smaller. I hated when people did crap like this to my doors, I'd get it all perfect and then someone would stick something in the hinge side. If you used 3 of these it probably wouldn't ruin anything, spread the stress out to all 3 hinges.
Hey! I'm not that big!
They are picking on us bro 😅
Brilliant! I could have used this dozens of times.
I can already hear the power tripping rent-a-cop screaming at me for propping the door open
Blocking a door there causes a lot of stress on the hinges, I prefer a magnet on a bumper in the frame to keep the door open just enough. Management is less likely to catch a door propped open every so slightly as well.
Funny thing I have used everything from a bag to door stops (usually preinstalled on institutional commercial doors), a block of wood or wedge or anything at all I’ve had on hand and it was free because those things were already on me.
Perfect for disabling that expensive lock and security system your workplace has
At my company we have magnet switches, so we'll receive an alarm after 10-30 seconds.
That worker's company will also be removed from our Approved Tenders list.
We make those in the fire service out of a 2-3 inch piece of a broom stick and a nail, there known as cherry bombs
This is what sandals or wallets are for.
Just cram into the doorway. Neither will harm the door or the jam
And it doesn't damage the door or the frame, great idea!
Someone comes along and tries forcing it closed, you bet that door frame is wrecked
Just an FYI. These and similar door chocks were mainly designed for firefighters and emergency personnel rapidly moving in and out of buildings. The off chance that it'll get left or damage a doorframe isn't a critical concern in those use cases. The point is that it reliably works the same in virtually any door and it keeps said door open.
I don't understand why so many people are bashing this. We use them in the fire service, and they're great little tools. They're well built and will last forever if used properly
Because they can destroy the hinges. If you're going to prop a door the best way is a wedge on the bottom.
I really enjoy all your content of your videos. Thank you.
Nice I just got two of these, I usually use a small block of wood but got locked out when the wind blew the door open and the block fell down and locked me out 😅
Liable for any issue to lose the contract, but I still ordered 3 for my guys. Half way thru the day, we get a private door team holding the door us.
😂😂😂 mission failed successfully i suppose
Easy 3d print. I'll make one tomorrow and post the stl online.

Finally, something to replace the free accessible rocks I use to stop a door from closing, or anything that weights 2 lbs.
Bring this to my secured building and your fired. This is actually how people die
How? They have too much money or BS going on, so they need to be protected? Or do you mean Zombies and the door is held open and let's them in?
I see plenty of sticks and rocks outside that can do just that, and they're FREE!
As a commercial remodeler, this would be so much better than the edge blocks. I’ll take 5.
Very useful👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
The cursive graffiti beneath it when he sticks it to the door is priceless.
I know there are plenty of simple solutions to the problem this solves but this looks like a good idea and probably has made quite a bit of money.
I used to have a piece of silicone tube that I used in a similar way, the problem with this one is if I loose it it costs money to replace, my tube was just from the scrap pile so it was a better value 😂
And break the hinge plate on door when someone tries to close it Bad idea I need to put something underneath the door.
You know... a wooden wedge works just as well and if the wind gets out if hand critical failure is the door slams shut... just saying... this one could cause all kinda of hinge based havoc.
Wedges lift the door and damage the hinges.
@iFixJunk perhaps it we are talking about the ones with recessed pins. But if the pin is traditional(i.e has an exposed upward facing head) and has been lubricated you don't have to worry about too much pitch and roll on a hinge, even if you are kicking the wedge under the door with a steel toed boot.
Door with hinges on the outside. Easy.
this would make flash mob robberies that much more simple sweet idea, I'm sure there won't be any law suits over this.
Been around for decades. If it has it’s already happened. Not too many thieves paying $35 for a doorstop in advance lol
Have you ever tried one of the things your carrying in? That's what I do. I open the door prop it with an item that's large enough to hold the door, and nab it last qhen the rest is in. Or use a wooden wedge which if your in and out with a lof of tools all the time is WAY cheaper and probably way more available than whatever that plastic pos is
Old pry bar, piece of wood, a little rock, branch, wadded up breakfast trash, hammer and screw driver wedged underneath, shims, bucket, tool box, your helper, yourself, the list goes on…
That looks like a cool idea BUT I see it either lasting 5mins because someone either forgot it was in there and shut the door or someone who didnt know it was in there tried to shut it. The other is WHEN you forget tot take it out and shut the door it damaged the frame and another one is if the wind catches it. I see it haven’t more issues that it solves.
cool. nice way to defeat security. nice convince that puts other or property at risk.
Spring loaded bottom spring to hold it in place for sure for sure
Literally just received these in the mail two days ago! I do a lot of access control work where I need to hold the door open in order to work on the handles and transfer mechanisms. These are gonna be awesome!!
Let me repeat what others have said here. As someone that works in institutional security, if I or any of my technicians find one of these on our property, it will be destroyed and you will be ask to leave the premises.
Gaaa@aay!!
That’s ridiculous.
I agree with Fah Q. Only difference in my answer was rock or stick.🤣
Tools make the man.
Regardless of what the comments say I can definitely see the value in it. That would have been handy for my years of service work.
there is 0 value. ANYTHING CAN DO THE EXACT SAME JOB
@@Skit7y tell yourself whatever you need to.
@@BlueDart1971 HEY SCAMMERS THIS GUY WILL SPEND MONEY ON ANYTHING
The door is installed with the hinge pins on the exterior side
Most commercial doors are per fire code. Push to open.
Commercial door guy here: most exit/panic bars have a dogging mechanism. Find it, push the bar down, stick an Allen key in and turn. Many entrance lock sets also have a thumb turn, where if it’s set to lock every time it latches push the button in and turn till it pops out.
Or just use a bucket.
As a professional who works on door openings, I BEG YOU to NOT use things like this on the HINGE side of the door to prop it open. It acts as a fulcrum, and the door a lever. One small push in an attempt to close the door without removing it, and the hinge gets bent, or worse, you could break the hinge welds. Then the door will no longer shut properly or secure. Then you call me to fix it. Save yourself money and only prop the door on the Latching side of the door.
Smart idea.
Use of this tool is literally breaking and entering! You are given a KEY so the door can remain locked when you are not actually there!
I clean carpets this would be a lifesaver when cleaning apartments! Usually those exterior doors open over rocks so no doorstop will work
fire marshall must love that
Hmmm I’m wondering how strong it is.. like will the door break first or this?
Watch out for high winds, like on roof tops. the power of leverage will let the wind use the door as a pry bar on its own hinges. . . I heard from a mate
That door is a pristine example of what a perfect door should be
"Have you ever needed to prop a door open?!"
HEY HEY HEY! IM NOT FAT!
Plumber here I use whatever’s in my pocket A 4 in 1. Channel locks. Even used a lighter a few times
Or you could just have a chunk of 2x4
So if you don't have a door like that which you use a lot the tool _doesn't_ have magnets?
That is genius.
Red team laughing to tears right now lmao
these are the reason 9 times out of ten the hinges are racked and the door starts rubbing or hitting the frame.
job security I guess but I do hate these things with a passion
Do they cover the damage to the door and frame ,caused by this wonderful tool ?
Cue all of the Experts in Security, door repair, Building management, cranky old men who don't appreciate young whippersnappers just leaving doors proped open all willy nilly and of course the Junior assistant Fire Marshalls in training.
Hey! This tool could get somebody robbed or destroy the door! I should know; I’ve managed warehouses and I’ve been doing it for 50 years! These young guys always trying to cut corners. My buddy’s the fire marshal, so I’m pretty well read in all these hazards!!
I just grab the nearest fire extinguisher
Incredible
This is great since I hate having to look for something or cut a piece of wood and it’s small enough to carry in work bag, there’s nothing wrong with this no damage causing bs, security team don’t care if they know ur working
"security team don’t care if they know ur working"
You're wrong....
James Holmes would have loved this thing.
I use a 20 Oz Aquafina bottle. Noisy sure but the door stays open and I can have a sip if I want one.
I can't wait for Wrangler Star to show us how to use this accordingly
Lol "This is how the fire service uses a door stop!"
That dude is weird.
I just stick my lighter in the door and it works.
lol, good luck doing that in a hospital or chemical plant
But then how do you light your cigarette on your smoke break, if it is propping the door open?
Cool tool
A good gust of wind, and snap!
This is what we call getting kicked out by security.
I get payed either way go ahead kick me out building owner still has to pay me 😂
Allright allright
The problem with a hinge side door block is that comparatively it can generate a LOT of a rotational force on the hinges of the door slaps it hard.
Nice way to rip the hinge out of the door too 😎
Great product, pretty neat
You could also just take a piece of wood, cut it into a wedge and it'll stop doors when you jam it underneath
I usually would go for the bricks outside
it's for contractors who LITERALLY Cant touch their toes
Crash bars like one on door has been outlawed in my area for over 30 years. Makes it too easy to install a chain thru them and prevent people from exiting say during a fire.
This is actually my personal shop building in the video. Most of my jobsites I’m not permitted to film on so I found a place I could show it 😅
I make those with a piece of 2x4 and a bent nail
Buy a pack of shims or grab some scrap wood from any construction site. You can often find some cut into different triangle pieces. I forget what it's called, but a wood triangle can hold any door open.😅
Great way to hinge bound a door
Woah. Shut up and take my money. I go in&out commercial doors everyday. This would make the life of a maintenance guy a whole lot easier. I'm off to buy one
Thats genius
That’s something will be digging out trying to look for lmao
That's slick. We always had to find big ole chunks of metal or a wire reel to hold open the doors when I was in manufacturing. Hell, I would've bought it to donate to the shop when I was there!
Am I the only one wondering why the hinges on a supposedly secure a door are on the outside of the building?
