I use older spices for dry meat rubs or in marinades. Even if the flavor is a bit diminished, just use more, it still ups your cooking game. I think ppl are too hung up on optimal quality and finances are still tight for many. After major life altering events, many stocked up on seasonings & spices, so put them to good use. CrockPot or InstaPot meals are another good use. 😊
I mention this because I struggle with the idea of waste. So in case it helps anyone feel better about getting rid of them, you can always donate those toiletry samples to womens & homeless shelters. Also, the spices are compostable so add them to your compost bin or simply sprinkle them on the ground if you don't have access to one.
@Sarah Spitzfaden Thank you kindly! I have that problem of declutter paralysis if/when I don't have a positive plan for things leaving the house, so I've cultivated options for most things. Two more of my favorite options are for magazines (our library has a little store I donate older issues to since they're great for collage art, but recent ones are also appreciated at nursing homes) and old linens/towels (animal shelters need them desperately, but they'll also take things like laundry detergents, etc.). Just don't let finding the "perfect" place keep you from getting rid of stuff if life doesn't currently allow for extra effort!

The timing of this video makes me smile. 😊 It's been a very productive rainy day.🌧️ Great video I have already made it through 2 of those areas today and my cabinets are much emptier now.😊 Kallie on a side note I have to say thank you for your video on the zip lock bag organizers. Mine arrived yesterday and I absolutely love how much more organized and accessible they are now.💛
Well the travel size sample stuff is great to add in a gift bag for people on the street! And also great to add in a prepping kit for natural disaster etc
As a senior who has accidental leaks, I keep a large supply of underwear. I need to wear Jockey brand for the high rise. Super expensive. Also the elastic is covered so doesn't irritate skin tags. Can't understand why a whole shirt is less money than a scrap of fabric in my undies!?!?
I am happy to get rid of ill-fitting clothes, but I'll be damned if I simplify my wardrobe. Look, I can either get dopamine from rediscovering old clothes, making new outfits from things I didn't know what to do with before, or shopping for new clothes. The first two are essentially free and the last one isn't. Great video, though! I didn't think about decluttering spices!
As a ceramic artist! I agree! Coffee mugs bring me so much joy. I do have too much paper clutter I don't know what to do with. Old statements, receipts, etc. I'm not sure how long to save things for. 😂
I go through my spices a few times a year, so they get a full overhaul way before they go out of date. Mugs...we have some that came with the house we bought, and they have just been sold as part if the furniture when we sold our house. We use our own regular cups, they aren't mugs though.
Trial size things can be used! And so can "expired" spices. A better mind set is this: don't buy anything UNTIL you use up some of what you already have. I have been working on that this year. Move that trial size bottle to your bathroom and USE IT UP. "USE IT UP, WEAR IT OUT, MAKE IT DO, OR DO WITHOUT "
Yes I went through all my spices this weekend and replaced them with new ones. Also went through my skincare and makeup. Mondays garbage will be pretty full with expired stuff
Going through the bathroom closet today and getting rid of stuff. If I need a vaporizer or a nebulizer again, I’ll buy them. Almost empty containers that aren’t likely to be used are going in the trash!
Don't get rid of your vaporizer. It comes in handy in the winter time to put moisture back into the dry air from the furnace. You will find you will need less lotions for dry skin. Just make sure to clean that vaporizer out weekly.
Omg, coffee mugs. Told my husband I don't want a bunch of random mugs.... Guess what I have? A bunch of random mugs from all his trips and when I brought it up, he claims I never said that. I definitely did, its an actual pet peeve to not have matching dishes/cups/mugs.
You can use old spices to combine in groupings like Italian, Mexican, Indian, etc. Use for rubs or sauces for example. Also may put out as room air freshener, mix small amounts with baking soda for carpet odor, just be careful about staining the carpet. Google spices for pest control too.
I only have 4 coffee mugs in use but my excess I keep aside because when I entertain family staying over we all drink coffee/tea so we can use those at that time. In case anyone doesn't want to throw them out just yet
But I actually use that stuff. Just cuz the spice is expired doesn't mean its BAD. So you have to use 2x as much in your recipe. That's cheaper than buying new spices. I use the samples, and I wear the holey underwear that time of the month or when I'm working outside. If they holes get too big they get thrown out.
The spices we have get used quickly. I up-cycle old mugs that haven't been used into gifts for others by pairing it with other coffee items or srarbucks gift cards. You never know when you need a gift. The undies go the the boyfriend for grease rags. Clothes get sent to either a donation center or one of the many schools we have around. Travel sizes get used by my the kids all the time. And they're great when we run out and we use them camping also.
I’ve read and believe that as long as spices don’t have bugs they’re safe to use after expiration date..since they’re not as potent u just have to use more of the spice..I’ve had spices that r perfectly fine for years, lol
All true. As someone who decluttered my spice cabinet last month -prepare to spend upwards of $100-120 for replacements- less if you’re not buying organic
Oh yes….the travel size bottles from hotels from beautiful vacations and why so we keep them? To remind us of that vacay. That’s why we take pictures!!! 😂
One thing I've never heard mentioned to declutter is keys on my key chain. I was carrying around this big wad of keys and key chains. I never removed any keys or the rings that the cute decor had broken. One day I looked at my keys and realized I had about five keys I didn't know what they unlocked, and several rings. When I got rid of these, my key chain was so much smaller and easier to use.
I used up my spices...They still work only add more and use em up quicker... make something to use em up.. chili used up a lot ..then only re buy refill pouches for refilling the few i actually use most. onion powder garlic powder ginger and cinnamon i have older ground cloves. recipes only call for 1/8 tsp...cuz its atrong ..even less potent still works once mixed into cookie dough.
Don't throw away all kind of spices just because they have expired. Roast them on medium flame for a few seconds to bring back their flavor. Roasted spices taste even better.
Hahaha the mugs my hubby and i have a thing for cups and mugs lol especially mugs we tell each other no more but yet still buy them or buy them for each other lol.
Underwear with holes equals cleaning rags for the really dirty jobs or painting jobs. Old mugs equals mosaic art projects. But overwhelmed with "pandemic stock" and really need a good organization and declutter!
You can’t check the date on spice bottles if you decant all your spices. I love the look of decanted spices but I’m too lazy to date them each time I decant a new spice. Props to all of you who do so.
If you have an extra travel size deodorant, place in your purse for 2 weeks. Can be used for pre and post workout, etc After 2 weeks you still didn't use, toss it.
I think I just left you a message regarding praise music but I couldnt find it. I am only sharing the truth, I did not mean to make you feel condemned regarding it. ❤
Lol the one thing I do use and won’t declutter because I use them before they become clutter is travel size items 😂 but I have a clutter of large size items -go figure 😂
I have a tendency to hang onto clothes that dont fit and I dont like for "maybe someday " When going through my closet, I ask myself "If I was in the hospital and asked a relative to go get me a change of clothes, would I want them to grab THIS?" It works everytime for me.
Declutter them "if you haven't used your travel items in six months". Ok, Princess Privilege. Throw away less potent spices. So wasteful and taking multiple vacations a year. Hard pass.
I collect unused toiletries from hotel visits and drop them off at a women’s domestic violence shelter or homeless shelter.
Thank you! I was just going to ask what to do with toiletries I no longer use or want
My mother and I do the same; smart cookie you are lol❤
idk why the word smart cookie feels so adprable @@TheThora17

Such good ideas, especially those spices!

Supposedly: cinnamon helps keep squirrels and small animals away from gardens, bay leaves, mint leave and extracts help repel bugs.

Kallie on a side note I have to say thank you for your video on the zip lock bag organizers. Mine arrived yesterday and I absolutely love how much more organized and accessible they are now.💛
The timing on this is great! I just ordered - literally 15 minutes ago - new underwear so I can throw out the old ones, LOL!
Well the travel size sample stuff is great to add in a gift bag for people on the street! And also great to add in a prepping kit for natural disaster etc
Expired spices aren't harmful, just less potent
What’s the line…? “throw away anything you’d be embarrassed by in a car accident”, Rory Gilmore 😂
@serenakoleno9338 Have you tried the new absorbent underwear? They are mostly advertising them as Period underwear but they should help.
I refuse to throw out my underwear just because there are holes! I’m wearing them until they disintegrate! 😂😂
Haha i use them for my time of the month
Same!!! 😂
If I threw out the ones with holes, there would be none left. 😊
You could always double them up in the colder months, extra insulation and hopefully the pairing helps to cover the holes. 🙂👍
hopefully they dont disintergrate while you are wearing them . that would be real akward. lol.
You can also use old spices for sachets and pot pourri as well as using cinnamon as rooting compound when starting new plants.
I am happy to get rid of ill-fitting clothes, but I'll be damned if I simplify my wardrobe.

Random coffee mugs are definitely not cluttering my cabinets. My problem is paper clutter.
Samee. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for that?
As a ceramic artist! I agree! Coffee mugs bring me so much joy. I do have too much paper clutter I don't know what to do with. Old statements, receipts, etc. I'm not sure how long to save things for. 😂
Can totally relate to this, lol

After the best by date of spices, they last one year.
My shirt that no longer fit, that have a design on them, just turn them into a blanket.

Underwear with holes resonated with me 😂
I needed these reminders! 😮
But.I use my mugs! Ok...
I’ve recently lost some of the baby weight so I’m decluttering all my too-big clothes 😍
I always refer to those as Holy underwear!
Yes I went through all my spices this weekend and replaced them with new ones. Also went through my skincare and makeup. Mondays garbage will be pretty full with expired stuff
Tip, put all those samples in big one. Like small shampoos put them in big bottle in ur bathroom.

Aint no way im getting rid of my mugs.. they’re collectibles

Glad to say I am on top of all these things 😊😊😊

I think another major “clutter-er” is dried up pens, markers, highlighters etc! Grab a piece of paper and sit your butt down lol… it’s gratifying lol
I must be really unusual, as I don’t own most of these items.

OMG We traveled a lot I didn’t realize my husband kept ALL of those! (Separate bathrooms) until he died, 1000s, not kidding
I found a spice mix that had bugs in it… this is your sign. Go check them! 😂

If you throw out spices you use often make a list to replace them. I learned the hard way
Thx bro!
Great video and so accurate
How are you so on point? 🤔😂 ( underwear with holes)?😂
The clothes is my hard one. I’ve tried and i can’t get it out of my head that i may want to wear it again some day

can you do a video of another 5 ?
Disagree with the clothes one. Weight fluctuates and I don’t like buying new clothes every time it does.
I have a tendency to hang onto clothes that dont fit and I dont like for "maybe someday "
When going through my closet, I ask myself "If I was in the hospital and asked a relative to go get me a change of clothes, would I want them to grab THIS?"

I don’t actually have any of these things.
❤👍
Also medicine that is expired and food cans/crackers/protein powder haha
Why would undies end up with holes … never happened to me
I say keep the mugs. They have this tendency to break 😂😂😂
Old undies = the reserves. 😂
Why the holy underwear??
After a ton of comedy shorts in my suggestions, I was disappointed that "romantic relationships of convenience", or the like wasn't on this list.
The hardest one for me is clothes 😢
