A NEW version of OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast is here thanks to modder emoose...giving us a modernized version of OutRun 2 to play on PC! Since OutRun 2 and OutRun 2006 is the best arcade racing game of all time and one of the best sega games of all time...having a modern version with tons of compatibility fixes, visual improvements and quality of life controller improvements...this is just absolutely awesome! Because OutRun 2006 includes the original OutRun 2 as well as OutRun 2 SP and many other options!
Get the patch here: github.com/emo...
OutRun 2006 setup guide is in the video but remember you may want to run the game as administrator on Windows 10 just in case! and change the resolution in the OutRun 2006 INI file (OutRun2006.ini) to whatever resolution you want! I chose 1920x1080 but you can really do anything!
Up next: OutRun 2 SP! I mean it when I say it...OutRun 2 SP is IN MY OPINION the best racing video game ever made...arcade or home console! It's just straight up retro gaming perfection in every way possible; as the sequel to OutRun and Outrunners from Sega...as a stand alone arcade game...or as the Xbox version! I am playing OutRun 2 SP or OutRun 2: Special Tours...as there are variant versions!
But OutRun 2 is Sega GOLD and it's 100% in the same league as Daytona USA, Scud Race or Sega Rally!

If you have issues with bad framerate, and you're using an Xbox controller wirelessly via bluetooth, it's because of the mod adding haptic triggers to the game. If you just use the controller in wired mode, it should fix the problem or turn off vibration entirely when using it in wireless. Should fix all the problems.
But the haptic triggers add so much to the game, I never had a PC game support them before, so it was a real treat to finally experience it!
Pinned this!
Played this a few months ago at my local arcade centre. Proper dual car cabinet with force feedback steering wheel, 65in display and loudspeeak. Cant get any better than that.
No you can not
That's for sure. I'd rather own that machine than an actual ferrari.
Haha I’d take the Ferrari
@@VideoGameEsoterica and then sell it for a nice house and one of those machines lmao hahaha
Between this and the N64 PC Recompiles, its been a good year to start to revisit alot of this.
Gotta love new versions of classics made by fans
Need for Speed III from 1998 also got a 4K/60 upgrade with Widescreen, support for modern controllers etc.
Ooh interesting. Got a link?
@@VideoGameEsoterica Google "Need for speed III hd". There is more than one version. One have new textures too.
The 4K version is from year 2016.
@@VideoGameEsoterica I think my reply got removed. Google Need for Speed III HD. There is at least 2 modern versions of it. 4K version is from 2016.
I've been having a ton of fun playing it on my Steam Deck. Even got some of the other modifications working on it, like 120fps and having the HUD elements during races no longer stretched in widescreen. It's so good!
I gotta try it on deck soon
Any chance of a small tutorial? I got it running in desktop mode, but cant get it to launch in gaming mode. Pretty new to steam deck haha. Thanks if you do!
@@Kairistorm Did you do the "Add a Non-Steam game" option so that it's added to your Steam launch list? Or did you just launch outside of Steam while in desktop mode?
Possibly in the future
@@METR0lD I launched outside of steam(I used lutris to install it) what file do I add to my non-steam game? :)
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve bought Out Run 2006 on Steam way back when it launched. It’s a finicky port, but already runs fine on my OLED Steam Deck.
It’s a bummer it’s been delisted for so long
@@VideoGameEsotericaYup, sucks for everyone who missed out. Maybe SEGA will consider making it available again, if Ferrari was to charge a somewhat reasonable licensing fee.
I’m sure Ferrari would want a giant bag
@@Gryzor88 If Ferrari licensing is the issue, why doesn't SEGA modify the Outrun game taking out Ferrari so licensing wouldn't be an issue? It's pretty dumb to see such a great game not being made available to the public over licensing issue.
@@devincurrie4145They did exactly that in the SEGA AGES version of OutRun for Nintendo Switch =)
Modified the Ferrari logo and slightly changed the shape of the Testarossa.
Always good to see some Outrun 2, old or new.
I have zero issues running this game on my legion go even before the patch
Thanks for the video
Good thing is it brings a lot more features than just stability
It's great that there is an updated version so more people can play it, but it's been playable on Teknoparrot for ages with online races working. We can only hope this brings it to Sega's attention and they finally make Outrun 3.
It’s just good to have more options and yes Outrun 3!
You will get a decent latency upgrade with a native Windows game versus going through an emulation layer, this matters most for an arcade racer like Outrun, everything from video latency, motion response and input response is improved on the native PC port, not that this will matter as much if you are using an LCD, but will matter for OLED and CRT users, especially @ 120 FPS.
Yes reaction time really matters
I wish they would just get over the whole "Ferrari" thing and throw in some throw away cars. Like, sure, it's cool to have a ferrari but I could care less if it was generic car brand C. Then we could get these games released.
Teknoparrot doesn’t have optimized gamepad controls, because it’s not native to analog stick it’s emulating arcade wheel input/programming. Same problem with MAME racers.
Oh, nice. I only just discovered this recently, when I was fooling around with old PSP games in an emulator. And immediately fell in love. I'm gonna have to check this out, especially since PPSSPP has some choppiness issues I never managed to fix.
Oh yeah def a better version than PSP
Tested the patch on the LEGION GO and it is working fantastic! I set the Outrun ini to 2560x1600 and what a beauty
Thank you :)
Glad it worked :)
Didn't know you can run it at 16:10, that's awsome news, can be even better than 4:3 for some games, racers suit a wider aspect imo, if only I had a Sony W900 or FW900 CRT, this update would be incredible on that set.
@@Wobble2007 oh yes I'm having a blast playing this game again, so smooth and such great racing action :)
This is an excellent patch. More demanding on hardware - as expected. In exchange you get sharper, crisper visuals and reduced annoyances - especially CONTROLS!
Now your controls 'Just Work' if you're using an Xbox pad or other that uses 'X-Input'.
I've seen a few minor issues, but I'm used to running OutRun on an old laptop with other applications running.
I'll have to close everything to see if the stuttering and data streaming issues that I found, were due to other applications hogging network and CPU/GPU time, as I was running it over GbE from a NAS.
Can’t wait to try it on a gaming PC & projector with the texture and UI packs installed.
I’ll have to get the OutRunners and other soundtracks set up as well.
A real winner upgrade
This finally got the game working for me properly in Linux via WINE. Been having a blast with it the last couple of days. Just got over a million points on a run in Outrun Mode via the Outrun2SP mode in fact and then I see your video about it is up so perfect timing I guess!
It’s just such an awesome update and one that was sorely needed
It’s legit just one of the best games ever made
What issues were you having with it on Linux? On Steam Deck, I'd find the game freeze at complete random. Could be on boot at the Sega logo, could be a menu, middle of a race, it just freezes, and I'd have to force close. Hoping this patch resolves such things.
@@WedgeStratos I had random crashes as well as the game running too fast at times. Also, I had to set the ini file to Accurate frame limiting instead of Efficient and turned off the increased frame rates for loading screens but once I did those two things, I was good to go.
I've had this running on Batocera Linux and PC for AGES now. The old FXT patch works just fine as well. I was able to upscale to 1080p with no problems before. This new patch does give a little performance, but nothing special. I actually prefer the old FXT patch, because it gave us "uncensored/nude" Clarissa, lol.
your channel covers such hype topics, definitely one of my very favorites on youtube. you had me hooked on 3do and m2 content and i just kept on coming back for more
Aww thanks. Appreciate that
Same.
The first way I played outrun 2 was on my old pc. After playing it that way I was so bummed I didn’t play the arcade when I saw it a few years before
Missed out. Def play it the next time you see it
Wow! Today is a happy day! Thanks for the video, and thanks to emoose for the excellent work.
Happy to do the vid
Forgotten about this game since I had played it on the OG XBOX. Been a treat to play this game again with modern resolutions and controller feedback on my Win 11 PC. Thanks for the heads up. Your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Aww thanks. Appreciate that! Plenty more fun coming
hot dang! I didn’t even know there is an outrun 2.
this looks dope!
What?? Welcome to the party! Enjoy it
This news made me very happy as I loved this game on the PSP and had missed it since my son left it on a plane 😢. Runs fab on our modern PC and also really well on an old laptop with 5th gen i5 and Intel graphics. PvP over LAN also working well 😁
Oof left it on a plane? The worst
Thank you emoose and thank you VGE for the info!!! Love the original OutRun and I'll be checking this out
Happy to do the vid
I’ve downloaded this game many times over the years, and I never had trouble booting it up or changing resolutions in the config file. The only thing that ever slightly bugged me is that sometimes there seemed to be a slight jitter when turning. I couldn’t remember if it seemed tied to the cars or the camera. But I agree that this is one of the very best racers of all time. This, Ridge Racer 6, and Burnout 3 are still the best racers.
Some people have tons of issues and others not many. I’m in the tons camp
amazing news! thank you for the update, I never would have heard of this
Happy to tell everyone
I've never had issues running Outrun 2006 in Win 10 or 11. This mod is obviously cool, but i'm surprised people have issues running the original game.
Me neither, it just ran for me in Win 10 with no issues.
Lot of people have. Oddly
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah, I'm admittedly an Outrun junkie, have been since 1986. I've had 2006 since it released and if it didn't run on my PC, I wouldn't have slept until it did. 🤣
I think the gamepad support and the low resolution are some of the main issues. I got around a lot of those issues with the tricks from PCGamingWiki, but on Steam Deck, I would have the game randomly freeze. Sometimes it froze at the Sega logo, sometimes the menu, sometimes in-game. I wonder if this new patch will fix such issues for me.
Sega logo is a common freeze point before this new patch system

So nice! I'm playing a lots of Sega Rally Revo recently, you covered this hidden gem on your channel before
That one is a ton of fun
I can't believe it, the game has been fixed. I had this game the first day I got my steam deck, but uninstalled it, without having a saved score system, it felt pointless to keep playing it.
Also, this game can run in 3d using reshade, and it's easily a highlight for 3d gaming. Looks and plays great.
Glad you are enjoying it. 10/10 good game
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yes and it's runs great, and looks great on Steam Deck. Before that I played it on PsP, which itself was really good for the time. Glad that they got the scores fixed along with some of the other issues with the PC port.
My jaw dropped once I got it to work. I made sure to play a normal game before I put the patch on and it was like night and day. Just wish I could run this game in a real arcade cab with all the bells and whistles. Still the greatest driving game!
With a lot of modding you def could
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It's everything I wanted in the PC version.
That’s what I’m here for
This video maker shows excellent taste as usual.
Not much else can compare to any news about Outrun 2. (That or Daytona 2 & 3 news.)
I’ll always do videos on Sega arcade racing game news
Dude, thanks so much for flagging this. Works a treat!
Happy to do it :)
This the first time that I have watched a racing game and actually felt car sick. But I still want to play it.
Def gotta play it
I'm hoping OutRun2006Tweaks can become the open source evolution/successor to FXT Edition, which did helped fix things and enabled rumble support for controllers and steering wheels, but it also has some issues and doesn't fix everything or have the features the former has brought to the table. We can finally have higher quality music, texture mods, and much more fixes and quality-of-life improvements thanks to OR2K6Tweaks and it still has room to improve even further to give us possibly the definitive version of OutRun 2006 on PC.
I’m sure it’ll be a jumping off point for more in the future
11 out of 10, so true, as racing games don't get any better than this, I think I might play some tonight, as it's been awhile.
The time is now!
Thanks! if you want an even better image create a 1707x960 custom resolution since the xbox did 480p
Looks great if you do it on a CRT too
Been running the psp version with upscaled resolution on my emulator box, looks and runs great. Will definitely check this version out.
All versions are good versions
Except the PSP version is locked at 30fps..Enough said' 🙄
I always forget which way is Easy/Hard when selecting the next portion of the track, but no matter what I know its going to be absolute FUN.
Easy is always left. But after the first left right is harder but not hard? Now that I think about it it is confusing
This is one of the first games I wanted to play on Steam Deck back when it first launched.
The only issue I had was, that the water was missing in some levels.
But, that was an easy fix by using lutris.
Yes that’s a driver issue that a lot of people had
This would be perfect if it had OR2 Arcade mode (without slipstream) and the tweaked handling that the Japanese OR2 on OGXB has plus SCUD Racer and Daytona USA 2 tracks, not to mention Outrun 2 has a straight port of "Outrun Arcade" plus two other modes: OutRun Challenge, which includes 101 missions distributed over the 15 stages, and OutRun Xbox Live, featuring online play. I kind of consider OR2 and OR2006 two different games because of the different gameplay, both a brilliant in their own right, this is now the best version of OR2006 though imo.
It’s wild how many versions of OutRun 2 exist. Near limitless variations
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah OR2SP (arcade original version of OR2006) on PS2 is really good too, might well be the definitive console version of OR2006, the PS2 also has the Sega Ages 2500 Outrun Arcade Arrange "remaster", which is fantastic, Sega should make Outrun Remix or Outrun DX that includes Outrun 2500 Arrange mode, Outrunners, OR2, OR2006, complete with all the best SCUD Racing and Daytona USA, Sega GT racetracks and online leader boards and online mode that lets you race other peoples track ghosts.
Should tide us over till OR3, Sega are going through a renaissance at last, what with them rekindling all their best IP, inc Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe et cetera, so ORDX & OR3 would fit right in me thinks.
Yes let’s hope Sega remembers we all want a new OutRun game
You’ve inspired me to download the PC version which I’ve never tried….hardly ever play PC games I have of course played it heaps on Xbox and PS2 though (and the arcade back in the day)
Glad you did it :)
I merged this with Special K and Outrun FXT mods. Its Lovely.
Outrun FXT has no apparent conflicts with Outrun2006Tweaks? Will have to give this a try. Also, may I ask what you are using Special K for in this context?
@@JonnyTenebrous it's been so long since I did my FXT and special K mods all I know is that I popped them in with a restore to something that got changed from arcade to home release. Then I slapped it into steam for the overlay fps counter.
Yes they should work together
Good to know
This was such a nice surprise. So glad they fixed the Pegasus bug.
A very nice surprise indeed
Wow, this runs incredibly smoothly and responsively at 1440p/144hz, Gsync, Vsync Off. I've been playing the arcade version prior to this, which is amazing also, but the fluidity of this version is next level.
It’s nice to have more modifiers than the arcade version in the ini
First Outrun I know and play, good game just me suck playing it
Just keep practicing :)
Even better than my all time favorite Ridge Racer franchise!? 👀
IMO yes but if you like Ridge Racer stay tuned to the channel 😉
Well, I have been playing it for a long time, with different patches and so on.
It's been running well, on multiscreen and now on my 49" Samsung ultrawide.
But I'll be definitely checking this one out.
It's best of it's kind...
It’s an amazing patch
I just did this an hour ago 😂
The game looks amazing!
10/10 amazing
@@VideoGameEsoterica I set it up up on my Windows 10 pc, now to transfer all the files over to my Steam Deck
I’ll def be doing steam deck soon
Looks like a nice update to a great arcade racer. Small gripe, they should’ve saved the starry sky for a country section and not had it so visible in the city with all the light pollution
Logic checks out lol
Great content Esoterica. There’s also modded texture support. I downloaded a UI texture pack and it makes it look even better
I saw that. Figured I’d just leave it stock for the vid
Yeah I got the HUD, Xbox buttons + flags, environments, and Clarissa sprite replacements dropped in the textures/load folder and it looks amazing. I'd like to replace the title screen with a higher resolution one with Press Start instead of Press Enter as that is annoying me now 😂
Haha yeah enter is funny when start on a controller also works
Geez the install wizard was a nostalgia hit lol!
Haha yep don’t see that any more
3:06 I thought the cobblestones rumble was something silly only i cared about, you don't know how I feel knowing someone else also noticed the rumble nuances missing and actually fixed it
Nope def something I care about :)
The PSP version runs pretty well on the Trimui Smart Pro, For playing this on the go.
Good to know!
Great videos, you should consider showing the name of each game you show on videos with gameplay from multiple games, as should other creators, in case someone is interested in a game they may not know.
This just made my day 😁
Yay!
I never had issues running the game on all sorts of PCs so i'm happy for you
I did enjoy this version but now that OutRun Online Arcade (Xbox360) runs great on Xenia I'm not touching it much, this patch might still be worth a try 👍
Per comments people either seemed to have no issues or all the issues
No waaaaaay! One of my all time favorite games!
Same! It’s a classic
Literally my favourite game of all time
Top 10 for me but number 1 arcade racing game
ini isn't an acronym, it's short for initialisation. Much like exe is short for executable.
FYI there is a v0.4.1 version available in the last 4 hours.
Sega needed to re-release this last gen on XBOne and PS4, such an awesome game to play.
I think Sega lost the license
It would be so cool if they could port over the daytona 2 & scudrace tracks into this version of the game. Tall order, but one can dream!
And a good dream it is
At least you can have the music 😂
Daytona 2 power edge can run on any PC i5 and above
It's already on PC via PC DVD, I got the OG on Xbox, but Coast 2 Coast on PC for a tenner, best arcade racer hands down.
I gotta say though, mine worked on Windows 10 no issues, even SEGA Rally Championship and Metal Gear Solid on their PC CD versions work flawlessly for me.
Maybe it's the Intel Arc GPU over the modern AMD and NVidia offerings that does it for me, but I've had no issues with the disc versions on Windows 10.
Didn't try 11, Windows 11 kept crashing for me whenever I open file explorer(Didn't the first time I used it in 2022, dunno what changed) so I rolled back to 10.
People either seem to have zero issues or ALL the issues
I was super hyped when I found out about this patch the other day, OutRun 2 is one of my favorite games for the original XBOX and I've always wanted to play the PC version with all of the extra bells and whistles. It works great just like your said, I just gotta check out if it can run without issue on the Steam Deck.
It can :) so enjoy some Deck play
I have the unmodded version on my Steam Deck for a long time, it works great. I just have to transfer over the new exe, ini, and textures from my PC tonight
I need to set up an SDX arcade setup for my game room

@@reviewingmoviesi play the game docked on a 4k 65" tv in 16:9 aspect ratio and it looks stunning.
If you have a racing machine setup I would use the "Feel The Road" mod. Seems the same but with more features for wheel users
I’ll take a peek
I love OutRun 2, almost as much as I love OutRun 1.
It's not a great game, but it's a fun game, and that's great!
I'm interested in this update especially because I just recently got this up and running with other patches/mods so I'm not sure what advantages it has over what I was just recently using.
I have the game for both XBOX and PSP and it's totally worth picking up and play.
And yes, I know the licensed cars made the series iconic but SEGA just should re-release it in a modernized version on their own on current platforms without the Ferrari license.
At this rate people would be fine with Sega doing that if it meant we got it back out
@@VideoGameEsoterica I mean can we blame them? Only thing they would have to change anyway is to remove the Ferrari logo and maybe change the car models here and there, so it should be possible.
In traditional SEGA fashion, we probably could easily mod at least the PC version anyway (see Crazy Taxi for instance where the second game also has no PC port).
I’m sure Sega has plenty of car models hanging out from other games they could pop in
I've had good luck with the Magipack version - but I'll try this on another mini PC
Enjoy it
Owned this on OG Xbox for near on 20 years I guess and never played it. I think it's time I do.
Long past due lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah I'm hearing you. Brother I still have OG xbox games and PS2 games that are still sealed. Couple of years ago I probably had around 100 360 games in the same boat and I only opened them to install them with any updates they needed for the future. ALL these systems and more have games I need to play right back to SNES, Genesis ect. Crazy but true.
@alexinanalogue2645 haha same. I couldn’t finish my shame pile in this lifetime. I’d need a second
I like the PSP version on Native.
All versions are good versions
now, if only I could buy it
of Afterburner Climax
or Sega Rally
Maybe one day
I have afterburner 3 on my ps3, it’s awesome
@reifhand99 another classic game
Awesome. This is a must play.
100%
This is probably my favorite game to run on my XP/crt rig (this and hydro thunder feel better than arcade). I don't think I can make any use of these enhancements on that rig, since it pushes the graphics card really hard already, but maybe I'll try it on the big pc.
Honestly standard game running at 1600x1200 on a crt is pretty spiffy stock. The pc version always rocked.
It really does shine on a CRT even if it also looks great on a modern monitor
I hope Sega rereleases some version of the base game on newer consoles. It isn’t on PSN and I’m not buying a super expensive 360 disc off eBay and an entire Xbox console just to play it. For the amount of work it would take to port over to PS5 and some minimal upres’ing, it would be well worth it financially I would think.
It’s all down to licensing now
Works GREAT on Ultrawide!!!
I'm going to see if a 90 fps limit and 1280 x 800 will work on steam deck.
Should work fine :)
Think I played this back in a day on PS2 and you could play it on an emulator avoiding all these PC issues completely for a decade now. Can't imagine wasting time anymore on messing around on PCs just to get a halfbaked game anyways even with fixes ...
Half baked?
Love this game so much - I have it on PS2, XBox, 360 and PSP. Read about the patch on the way home from work, got in downloaded the game from a certain archival website, applied the patch, and spent several happy hours playing at 4K! This patch is awesome - just do it people!
Also, why are people pronouncing ini files weirdly? They're inny files, not aye-n-aye files: unless you're a Jamaican Rastafarian. In which case: Babylon and ting, sayin'? Aye n Aye.

I still emulate psp version. Have to bad phone for ps2 version but psp run smoothly with big resolutions 😀

Man we really need a new high res intro video on this game. The one that plays in the attract mode looks like it's 144p
Probably 240p
@@VideoGameEsoterica is it possible to replace this? I am looking online and can't find anything. I was sure someone would have made a new video that we could swap, same for the TitleScreen.bik file I found in the folders.

@@VideoGameEsoterica yeah, I just can't find replacements for the intro screen or attract mode, surely someone has made these I thought.
As nice as it is, I will continue to play to the arcade version on Teknoparrot, for the proper wheel support alone. Plus I think the PC version look worse, darker, less sunny, more dull, It loses a lot of the blue blue sky Sega vibe.
It’s a bit toned down but it’s a very comprehensive version that’s much better now
damn, i can finally play with my controller lol. btw this was the first game i ever bought on steam haha.

Yes. This is a fan made update for stability and extra features
Odd one maybe there's different region variations out there the standard disc here offers HD/WS resolutions and runs with no problems out of the box.
Others have had issues with that Vers
Oh its on the steam deck too ohhhh yeAh babyyy🥴
Great platform for it
Emoose did God's job
The Sega deity
This version is inferior to the FXT version, strange that people haven't heard of FXT mod.
FXT has wheel support with force feedback also
I've had this game for like 15 years and never had any issues getting it running or while playing. It must be a Windows 10/11 thing. Also it doesn't seem like there are any upgrades from the version I have.
People either have zero issues or ALL the issues
I was excited but disappointed it doesn't give any wheel ffb
Yeah that would be extra nice. Maybe one day
Much better to backup to original exe file just in case.
True
I wish somebody made 4K textures for this. The text on the HUD and the main menu look really blurry on my 1440p monitor and 4K TV.
There are texture packs available
It's great, but not on the same level as sega rally 1, daytona 1 and 2, and scud racer, or even indy 500.
Also good driving, I'd suggest using manual. No need to use the brake in this game.
Remember you have to be over 230 kmh to drift in the highest gear if you gear down gear up (236 iirc).
Edit: nvm, just saw you using manual if i'm not mistaken.
Got this on ps3 still. Need to plug it in again, same for my ps4, lol.
IMO it’s def on the same level of slightly higher :)
I missed out on the Steam release, but I do have a physical copy. So maybe I should try this patch out sometime. Maybe see if I can get it working on the Steam Deck, rather than just emulating the PS2 version.
Patches just as well as the steam version
Ia played the f out of this game on psp. Probably the best time i ever had on a handheld.
One of the best PSP games
This game hasn't been that hard to run at all for years. I personally ran beening running it on various pc hardwares, including some very low end intel setups without issues for over ten plus years.
Actually, it's been the same files on a flashdrive for years, at first running a no cd crack. Then upgraded to the FXT patch years ago which added better config and force feedback with xinput support. Xinput was supported before, but just didn't have rumble support.
New patch is pretty great at least, especially with the 4:3 for non-streched menus.
I’ve never had luck with that. But that’s me
@@VideoGameEsoterica Admittedly, I still don't know how my installation of the game works portably without DRM or on so pc's and operating systems.
It was gotten on a now-dead website ten-plus years ago.
The port is pretty good coming from the Dark Age of pc ports. It's only missing some lighting effects from the arcade and Xbox versions.
It’s a V good port. Second only from the SPW SDX version IMO

>not actually a new version
>not actually a new release either
>just a mod
