- Watch our overview video on the book of Nahum, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In this book, Nahum portrays the downfall of Nineveh and Assyria as an image of how God will confront and bring down all violent human empires.

Thats exactly what i do lol
Me to. Just started
Right the o the duo yg😮
Every time I finish a book in the bible, I watch one of these videos to let it sink in. Great work guys!
Lol. Me too.
I’m doing that before I read a book in the Bible
I watch before and after, lol
Same 👍🏻✝️❤🏴
Same 💫🥰
Time spent in God's word is NEVER time wasted!
This, like all your other videos is excellent. Thanks Bible Project team!
Others: We neither have the time nor the crayons to explain it to you...
The Bible Project: We can do that for you!
😆👍👏👆❤
Thanks so much! Praise God!
No way is it wasted time! It’s the smartest and most important way to spend our time. If we want to know Him, we need to read and understand His Word.
He called me to read The Book of Nahum last night. I do a daily devotional read in the morning which consists of one word and scriptures and preachings around that word. I got COMFORT! Fast forward to the end of my day, I grab my bible and open to which section called to me, and it was Nahum. I’ve NEVER even seen this word before let alone known about the section in the Bible. I open it and it describes that in Hebrew NAHUM means COMFORT…… The Lord is here and he works in beautiful ways. Thank you for this ❤
He is WONDERFUL
That's beautiful
I'm almost 12 years old and I learned about the rise and fall of all the Mesopatamian empires and this kind of connects, except that my teacher says they fell because they had too much land to rule. This is really nice to listen to when I do my oversplits.
Well done champ! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️❤️❤️
Always look at history and at the modern world through a biblical and spiritual lens, young one! You are the future, continue to seek The Lord in all that you do and He will lift you up and use you in mighty ways! Matthew 6:33
One of my favorite verses. “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.”
Nahum 1:3 ESV
that's exactly the one I was thinking of
Praise God... I am from India , Taminadu , Chennai .. I really love seeing this video's this are soooo usefull to understand the book.... Before reading the book... Watching this video gives an Idea how to read it... Love jesus who has raised u up.... Keep going. GOD BLESS YOU...
Listening to this reminds me of all of the violence quickly escalating in the US right now, and in many other countries. It's so sad to see how quickly we are becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah: Violent, without self control, evil, hateful, etc.
Sav3dbyGrace you said it!
Sav3dbyGrace I thought the same thing. 🙁

Look at what they've done to the middle east too. Killing Gadaffi, creating Isis. And it looks like we're starting to see the consequences from massive shootings and riots. I doubt America will make it past the 21th century, but let's be hopeful for now
You said it shame on all of us
And Americans bow down to the god of sex
Its September 30, 2023 and I want to share this. the night before, I had a dream about a prophet appearing in a town that was filled with hurting people. I heard the name Nahum. Every time I would hear his name mentioned, the people rejoiced because he was here. Not saying that he was God but he was sent to bring relief. I wish I knew what this dream meant and why I dreamt it. This story is good and I pray that I get a clear understanding about it.
TMH didn’t forget about His chosen people who have been scattered and oppressed to this day by all these nations. Just like the prophecy that Nahum gave Nineveh so is TMH saying to these nations around the world. Destruction and judgement is coming. Repent and get your life right with TMH. Seek His truth and it shall set you free. Shalom ❤
Yours are some of the best Bible videos on UA-cam. May God bless you all.
Again, I so LOVE and appreciate how Tim & John bring ancient messages from The World's best seller to life and contemporary relevance in our day!!!
Today in Church we had a reading from Nahum. As a result, I came back to listen to this video again. As you were speaking about oppressive nations I couldn’t help but think about the approximately 40,000 Palestinians who have been and are being ruthlessly oppressed by many nations. The Lord is watching this injustice and I sure hope I’m part of the faithful remnant when he exacts his punishment on the perpetrators of this grave injustice.🙏
As I was listening to this overview as I prepare to read the Book of Nahum I could not help but think about the many wars going on today where there are oppressive and arrogant countries killing innocent people. May the Lord have mercy on us!
These videos really help me know where to start when I read a new book of the Bible. Thank you Bible Project for enhancing understanding in other’s walk with Christ.
Love the Bible Project! It gives a wonderful overview of the book before reading. When reading the chapters it gives you a greater in-depth study and understanding.
Humble suggestion. Read a book first before watching. Then watch the video.
Capernaum means "Nahum's Village." Just a little tidbit!
+Chris Sims ...thought it meant "She Knows"
Maybe Tim and Jonathan know?!
+Chris Sims It means Nahum's town. You were correct.

Your comment at 1:57 caught me off guard since the very first sentence of chapter 1 states that this is an “oracle of Nineveh” (I read the NASB translation).
That aside, I have been using these overviews to help me gain a clearer understanding of the Old Testament and have found them extremely helpful! Thank you for these. As a visual learner, the animations are IMMENSELY helpful in putting it all together in my head. God bless!
Yeah, it included Nineveh in the ESV and KJV as well… that is a bit weird!
Thank you for these OVERVIEW of Scriptures...it's a blessing indeed. YaHWeH bless and keep you in the wonderful name of Yahshua our Messiah...Shalom
This has blessed me in so many ways .. God bless the team behind this
Thanks for pointing out that "Nineveh" and "Assyria" are not mentioned in ch. 1 (that is after the opening introductory statement 1:1) because the version I am reading has "Nineveh" in v. 8 and Assyria in v. 13. However, looking at the footnotes I see, "her" and "his". I would have completely missed your consideration from ch. 1.
My NIV version actually mentions Nineveh in verse 8 and 11 chapter 1 too
I was wondering about that ..
@@pri1114 the translations I read, mentions them too, I am a bit confused
@@pri1114 niv has many verses missing. Becareful
It's not just NIV. NLT, NKJV and many other translations also mention Nineveh in the first verse of chapter 1 of Nahum
Hey! Could you do a video about the word "humble." Like what is it and how can we become humble?
Just behave the opposite of the current president of the US
Maggie C , on youtube go to: how to humble yourself by derek prince. His teachings are awesome, you will really enjoy his teachings, true man of God, God bless.
Maggie C , sorry, it is : how to humble ourselves, by derek prince.
Maggie C yeah I would like to see that as well
I believe that humble means to not be proud, know your ability and strength well.
Really you all are doing a great things for students who is learning God's word I also so much blessed with this videos . Please continue doing this for God's Glory. I pray for your team every day
Than you using your gifting to serve the christian community. Just brilliant!
Thank you so much for this Bible project! What a blessing!
Wow!
It’s really amazing and maybe eye opening how we repeatedly make the same mistakes over and over and over.
Even when we THINK we have done something good.
As a filmmaker, I truly appreciate the excellence of your work in all of your videos.
This video leaves me with a question: You say at 1:59 that Nahum, “nowhere mentions Nineveh…in chapter 1”
But when I read, ““The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.” Nahum 1:1 NKJV” Nineveh is mentioned right there. What am I missing?
Love these Bible projects!
Thank you.
This is such a blessing. Thank you!
I come to Nahum at a very appropriate time; Russia just invaded Ukraine. God be with the innocent.
Thank you. It's so true. He's a refudge for those who are oppressed. I've experienced. It's something man cannot conjure up. It is REAL!
Dear Brother,
May The LORD bless and keep you.
You are presenting exquisite pearls of great Wisdom in your brief but pithy summaries/“redactionettes” of each Book of the Holy Bible.
I am an elder of 75 years of age all of them hopefully being of Service to the Will of the Kingdom of Heaven. Your redactions with brilliant drawings are an EXCELLENT preview or a good review of each book. You waste no words nor do you loose time. Who can’t afford six mutes while waiting for a bus or waiting for a spouse to come out of the grocery store. Your voice indicates a man of less than 35 years, but your knowledge trebles that age. Are you just the narrator of a script-writing team, or is this all your own work.
I myself have been called to open three different levels of Biblical exegesis for the world via UA-cam, but every time I try to start something prevents me from proceeding. It is either the LORD or it is the adversary. But I have three to four thousand hours of talks all outlined and memorized in my head.
I would ask you and all fellow true CHRISTians to pray for me that this attack will end and that HIS Will be done; on earth as it is in Heaven

Brilliant Biblical explanation. Wished I’d seen these when young.
The old testament is so hard to read. You and your team is a blessing yo people like me. This makes it easier to understand and “paint a picture” lol god bless brothers and sisters
Thank you for the great work you're doing in God's vineyard. God bless you abundantly in Jesus' name!!!
Now that wrapped up my reading of Nahum so wonderfully!
The first chapter as I read it sounded really hopeful for God's people and I said to myself "Man, to be on that other side of God's wrath 👀😬"
And then came the rest of the chapter and how horrific it came to an end, and as expected of God's goodness, justice was served... but it was written in such a dark way... (?) especially the last verse "...all who hear news of you will clap their hands over you, for upon whom had not your wickedness passed continually?"
sounded to me like a dramatic version of "serves you right! you got what you deserved!" haha
Again, thank you BibleProject for this! I am hopeful and certain that God is working through our times right now ❤️
It's good to be part of God's faithful remnant. Also, this video is very well illustrated.
This books also reveals that God's mercy has a limit, seeing how this nation was the same that God forgave in Jonah's time.
Because they show too much Sins. Like in Genesis God give Pharaoh many chances and ignore it and his own evil trike him back.
, he inore it*
@@brauliodiaz7657 I believe you mean Exodus.
@@brauliodiaz7657 but didn't God harden Pharaoh's heart?
💯
And now they've found more scrolls with the same message. NOTHING is coincidental with Holy Spirits timing.
Really blessed by your labour. God's favour and Jesus blood on you and all pertaining to you.
Amazing how this book today gives us new hope.
You guys are amazing! Your editor is insane!
Sad to say, I learn so much by viewing and hearing from you guys. Thank you 🙏
Exactly what I needed! I've never been very good at understanding any type of poetry! Thank you for making Nahum clear!
Same. I hate poetry
Every Empire history was corrupted with blasphemous sinners, paganism, immoral societies etc. before falling. It is still happening today.
Yes, we all are sinners BuT God always gave us a plan of redemption to get right with him. Redemption was always something of great value. A blood sacrifice. There is life in the blood.
The Old Testament the redemption was a pure animal sacrifice.
The New Testament Jesus became that blood sacrifice that cleanses us from our sin. He took our punishment upon himself. So we could be declared clean.
Ch 1:1 mentions that the whole prophecy is concerning Nineveh?
Thanks for all your hard work, I love them all but I especially enjoy the old testament overviews, as some of the old testament books confuse me in what is going on and who certain people are, these videos help tremendously.
Okay, I know this is such a stupid thing to get hung up on. But the images you guys drew of all the following nations after Rome; I know what all of them are (I think), except for the one right after Rome- the one with "etc." beneath it. I know the guy is holding a Dane axe and a kite shield, but I can't tell if that's a Frank, or a Visigoth, or a Byzantine Varangian guard, etc. If you guys see this, I'd like an answer, but it won't kill me if I don't get an answer- I promise. Lol love the channel, and keep up the good work!
Guys, we really need you to qualify your statement about Nineveh not mentioned in Ch. 1. Otherwise, great work!
So, I just read further down the comments and came across one that stated that in footnotes, another translation used "him" and "her" where I read "Nineveh" in the NIV. Now I want to check the NASB and several other translations. It behooves us to be like the Bereans, examining scripture carefully.
You should do this for every chapter of every book of the Bible. It is great!!! Thanks !
Your Biblical and spiritual analysis are spot on.
Just a thought about Assyrians as "one of the World's first great empires". That kinda ignores the Empires in China that predated this by up to a millennium, and other Empires in the Western Hemisphere such as the Olmec which also predated this by up to a millennium.
Thanks for your great scriptural animation/analysis!
Thank you for these illustrations. This is a great teaching tool help convey what God is teaching us!
Thanks Bible Project for all you do! God Bless you and your ministry!
I'm enjoying watching these after I read the chapter in the Most Holy Bible.... Thank you so much....
I’m Assyrian… Nahum is buried in my village called “Alqosh”
Wow. These guys are pumping them out FAST!
Yes
For one of the minor prophets thats often overlooked, Nahum has a wonderful message of the LORDs stedfast love and care for those that trust in him! In fact, Nahum 1:7, the verse mentioned at the end, is my life verse and I have it tattooed on my chest as my only tat! Every time I look into the mirror I am reminded of Gods faithfulness and that in return I need to be faithful to him.
Reading the books and the. Watching these videos is helping me understand to whom it was written, why it was written and who wrote it.
A thousand times thank you for all of these. The time and effort is greatly appreciated. God bless you fam
I love this video. It was concise yet very very thorough, meaningfully hitting on many major points.
Thanks bible project!
So useful! Grateful for your work!!
I love your videos, because I get a sense of the bigger picture. That said, I found 3-4 mentions of Nineveh in chapter 1, in different Bible translations (the video says there are none). That means that even if the hebrew words are not "Nineveh" literally, the allusion to Nineveh is strong enough to have convinced several translators to write "Nineveh". I understand a video like this can't go into this discussion, but I'm left with a sense that one of the big points of the video is made on a shaky ground.
In my footnotes is is mentioned as 'his' and 'her'. Maybe the translators assumed it ment Nineveh
All of the major translations that are known for their strict fidelity to the wording of the Hebrew text (NRSV, ESV, NASB, NKJV) do not mention Nineveh in chapter 1 outside of verse 1.
What a blessing it is to watch these videos. Thanks a lot 'The Bible Project' for making these videos. Helped me a lot. May the Lord Bless you more for being a blessing to many. Love from India.
Thank you so much for this summery. It gave me a much better understanding after reading.
Who else just saw Nope in theaters and is trying to figure out how the opening scripture related to the movie?
Excellent overview to the book of Nahum. Thank you Bible Project! 🙏🙏🙏
And All The Time God Is Good
i watch these after i read the book theyre so good keep us the good werk
I do the same!
Thank you so much. God bless you one and all.
Could Nahum also be for spiritual warfare in that the enemy comes to destroy. But well will be delivered from the enemy and we cheer as Christ destroys the enemy.
Nineveh is mentioned a couple of times in chapter 1.
Brilliant little overviews, but enough content to know what it's all about!
Just started chapter one today. Praise the Most High.
Thank you brother for your content. Well put together.
Love you Saints
Amen Glory2God
Lord, please forgive all our enemies because no one can withstand your wrath. Show us all mercy.
The Bible videos are very good and informative makes Bible study a pleasure
Absolutely LOVE your work! What an amazing and important ministry. God bless you and thank you! 🙏🏼
Love these vids!!!
Thank you for posting this.
❤ thank you Bible project ! praise God for he is awesome!
I think in the video said that there was no mentioning of the name Nineveh in Nahum:
Nahum 1:1 (KJV)
The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Nahum 2:8 (KJV)
But Nineveh [is] of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, [shall they cry]; but none shall look back.
Nahum 3:7 (KJV)
And it shall come to pass, [that] all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
I love ❤ 😍 your overviews of each story of the Biblical stories cause you do an excellent job explaining each story of the Bible Thank you 😀. The art 🎨 😀 work is fantastic too thanks. 😇 👼 😇 👼 🙏 🤲 ⛪ 💒 ☦ May everyone watching 👀 and listening 🎶 ♥ be blessed take care.
Lord God bless you
Just a question for anyone out there, I just read Jonah and saw how Nineveh repented before God. Did they really go back to their violent, sinful ways within the 80 year time difference of these books being written? Or was their repentance not sincere? I honestly thought the repentance of Nineveh was how their story ended. This king who fell isn’t the same king who humbled himself and repented is it?
Excellent overview, thank you
I love this.... receive more grace
AMEN GOD IS AWESOME
1:07 God’s Coming Justice
3:02 Woe 4:22 Downfall of Evil
God Is Good
You all do such a wonderful job illustrating for us visual folks!!
I love the way you put it together.
Always great to listen. 👍👍
Here after watching nope
Who is here after Jordan Peels movie "Nope"????
What is the connection?
1:56 Nineveh is mention in ch1 v1 of almost all the translations I looked at in biblehub, strongs concordance 5210 defines it as Nineveh. Doesn't really change anything as its clear from the entire book it's Nineveh.
I hear this... I am here to humble myself before my Father in Heaven.
Sooo good! Thank you guys so much! This helped me understand it so much better!
The Book of NAHUM DOES MENTION NINIVEH AT THE BEGINNING of the book, but it's true that the poem is a warning against all powerfull arrogant cities.
it's mentioned only in some versions of the bible actually. other versions its mentioned as 'her' and 'his'.
Thank you Bible Project team
