(Info)
"Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean" is an American patriotic song which was popular in the United States during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Composed c. 1843, it was long used as an unofficial national anthem of the United States, in competition with other songs. Under the title "Three Cheers for the Red, White, and Blue," the song is mentioned in Chapter IX of MacKinlay Kantor's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Andersonville (1955). It was also featured in the 1957 musical The Music Man. In 1969, "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean" was the music performed by a U.S. Navy Band embarked aboard USS Hornet as one of the ship's helicopters recovered the Apollo 11 astronauts from their capsule named Columbia after a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.
The melody of "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean" is identical to that of the British patriotic song "Britannia, the Pride of the Ocean" and there is disagreement as to which song was adapted from the other."
Last time I was this early the United States of America just declared war on the British Empire in 1812
Sorry about the White House.
Last time I was this late, The South seceded from the Union.
Death to the British imperials!
Long live the Republic!
Now US kinda indirectly owns UK it feels so good as an Indian that UK got owned and also that most of British Empire is allied to US so is India
*FDR:* Last time I was this late, Japan had just bombed Pearl Harbor.
Fun fact
The picture is of the White Fleet that sailed all over the world. The president that ordered it was Teddy Roosevelt.
Good old big stick diplomacy

The Great White Fleet. Even Battleships could be beautiful. Ships are called "She" for a reason!

I have been trying to find this song for 2 and half years. No one knew it as I am not from the US. Finally found it.
congratulations on completing your long journey!
It's also made an appearance on the yet another American piece called "American patrol"
Don’t feel bad, most Americans have forgotten or even have never heard this beautiful piece. The lyrics are fantastic as well, “Thy banners make tyranny tremble, when Bourne by the red, white, and blue”
One of my favourites, without doubt. Absolutely beautiful
Agreement.
This is the anthem that should have been made official.
"Columbia, the gem of the land and the see […] When Liberty’s form is in view, thy banner makes tyranny tremble! When born by the red white and blue!"
This was one of thee songs under consideration for U.S.A. National Anthem. We used to sing it in grade school in the early 1960s.
What was the third song?
@@dust195 Hail Columbia, I think.
The last time I was this early it was still the Thirteen Colonies
I let a pigeon listen to this, now he's a bald eagle.
This is the best version of Columbia, The Gem of The Ocean
God Bless America
I could see this as a better anthem than the current one
The current anthem needs to be the entire national anthem of all five verses
My version of the Star Spangled Banner
1
O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
2
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
3
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
4
When our land is illumined with Liberty's smile,
If a foe from within strike a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that dares to defile
The flag of her stars and the page of her story!
By the millions unchained, who our birthright have gained,
We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained!
And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
While the land of the free is the home of the brave.
5
O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto in God is our trust.
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
No, not at all.
I thought you said Hail Colombia was better
Although this one isn't terrible either
absolutely no
Lyrics to the first verse (from memory, at least)
O Columbia, the gem of the Ocean!
The home of the Brave, and the Free,
The shrine of each patriot's devotion,
A world offers homage to thee.
Thy Mandates make heroes assemble,
When Liberty's form stands in view!
Thy Banners make tyranny Trimble,
When Borne by the Red White and Blue!
When Borne by the Red White and Blue!
When Borne by the Red White and Blue!
Thy Banners make tyranny Trimble,
When Borne by the Red White and Blue!
Do you mean “Tremble”?

One of the best patriotic American songs
Love these patriotic anthems! This and "Marching Through Georgia" especially.
Sounds lovely and patriotic
Sounds terrible and imperialistic

Ah yes, the best US anthem.
This is the one that should have been made official. This or My Country Tis of Thee. Even Hail, Columbia!. The Star Spangled Banner in my mind is 4th with Yankee Doodle being #5 among our de facto anthems.
Battle Hymn of the Republic would be a good choice as well, tho it has lots of religious references in it.
@@morganv7895 Separation of Church and state man, in my opinion we should follow it. Sure we can make references to god since America is a Christian nation, but to have parts of it in the national anthem? Eh.., the song is more fitted for war-time because all America truly needs in hard times is hope.
My favorites are this one, battle hymn of the republic and the battle cry of freedom
@@GigaChadlovesandcares Well the last verse of "The Star-Spangled Banner" mentions God, so there.
I think "America the Beautiful" would've been by far the best choice, but it may be too long since "The Star-Spangled Banner" was adopted by Congress for us to change it now.
Do Battle Hymn of the Republic next, please
Amazing one I tell ya
Long Live USA!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
very nice and lovely
Last time I listened this George Washington was attacking Boston.
Boston was voluntarily surrendered by British troops and never had to be attacked by Washington’s continental army
More like "Gem of the World"
This is a good battle song !
Should be the National Anthem

I am working on a version of this song, to honor not only my favorite Character from Harry Potter, but also my Beloved One! His Name is Sirius Black III! But, so far, I have only got “Here’s to my brave, sweet Sirius! Here’s to my brave, sweet Sirius! He’s a sweet and smooth as Butterbeer!
