- Playing Portal 2 backwards doesn't mean just flipping the order you play the levels in. That's boring. Instead, I made a full, playable mod that lets you get from the final boss fight all the way to the start.

Suggestions:
the jump at 7:56 could be made more casual-friendly if you add those repulsion gel panels in the acid. Make sure that strafing is still faster.
make ladders more easy to climb, and make the gel bounce at 7:15 more fluid
add a metal bar in the orange portal platform at 12:22
Add red arrows and other scribbles in the style of Doug Rattman to help guide the way through
In the part where you have just put down the portal gun, add some bars on the walls in a diagonal staircase style so people who put down the gun too early can recover, or just set their blue portal location to above the pit a second after they put down the gun.

Seconded that the 7:56 jump should be more casual-friendly. I couldn't pass it without noclip.
Could you imagine if the plot was reversed too: Wheatley tries his best to repair the facility, but the power bills are too much for him, so he tasks Chell to go down to Old Aperture and shut down everything. Chell makes her way down to the old test chambers, unsolving the tests and shutting down the gel machines. Chell leaves PotatOS behind, and makes her way back to the wreckage, where Wheatley conveniently left an elevator down for Chell to take up to his room. Wheatley decides to retire from being in charge, so he gives control to GlaDOS, who then states that the turret production needs to be repaired, so Chell proceeds to the factory, replacing a broken turret with a functional one, Chell then resets some more test chambers until she makes her way to the incinerator room, where she leaves the dual portal device behind. GLaDOS then reaches down the shaft, grabbing Chell and pulling her back to the surface. GlaDOS decides that everyone should take a nap, so she shuts down. Chell and Wheatley make their way back through some abandoned test chambers, putting everything back. Chell finally returns to her relaxation room, taking a quick bathroom break, before returning to her bed, resting for an unpreceded amount of time.

Meanwhile Wheatley gets busted by the IRS and Aperture gets foreclosed

@@channelwithnotopic Sooo, when Chell thought she could finally sleep, the Party Escort Bot drags her to the surface, she's unhappy about that, so she smashes the cake grabs GLaDOS's module, drops down, slams her back into the Central AI Chamber, gets the Weighted Companion Cube from the Emergency Intelligence Incinerator, cleans it, goes through the testing track again, before finally returning to the Relaxation Vault once again.
Whee. Now I wanna see something like this for Portal 1 as well.

Y'know how you're so tired you give up on escaping a nearly abandoned facility that could fall apart at any moment just to use your portal gun and long fall boots to get back to the bed the employees at said facility that are probably dead gave to you when you probably signed up to be a test subject?
So at the very end, Chell decided she had enough of this testing shit and went back to bed.

Every time you beat Portal 2, someone at valve has to complete this to restore aperture for someone else to be able to play again.

I love the idea of turning the lights off in the old aperture levels, it's like you're the last person to leave with the keys making sure everything's safe.
I love how GLaDOS's chamber goes from overgrown and destroyed to perfectly functional to blowing up to functional to destroyed in the span of an afternoon.

I love how you didn't just put the start position at the end, and go through the game being like "this chamber isn't possible!"

I think the very beginning of the mod should be changed. I feel like having it take place after glados is in power would be cooler. Having one of the robots ordered around and fixing everything chell did would be awesome
and the end cutscene being just reversed (the one where chell leaves)

It's made in vscript, which only really allows modification to maps and adding mechanics like the magnets video. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to make a cutscene, correct me if I'm wrong.

I love how Wheatley has no problem with this, and how it’s canon here that there are three main rooms where GLaDOS/Wheatley can be situated.
Theres the one at the end of the game, the one at the end of chapter 5, and the end of chapter 1.

the entire game just being one big documentary film reminds me of the 'bloopers' found in the end credits of toy story 2. i think there was also something similar in a bug's life? either way that's pretty funny to think about lol.

Here's the thing about Portal 2. Canonically, at the end of the game, Wheatley has pushed the facility to it's devastating collapse. What Chell did is:
Woke up
Forced an intellegent robot made to be in charge out of their place
Forced an arrogant maniac into charge instead
Caused the facility to collapse under lack of maintenance and knowledge of the facility
Went back to bed
Honestly same

9:34 - Honestly - considering you were willing to add additional test elements/features to make the game beatable casually - I think you could've gotten away with adding portalable surfaces to reach those inaccessible ledges.
That would’ve pretty much removed that entire section, the entire climb. Sure, the ladders aren’t great, but it’s a whole lot better than skipping that whole room.
Can't wait for reverse% speedrunning to become a thing!

There was a deadline? Was there a Portal mod contest or something like a gamejam for mods a while ago?
I prepare these mods for my livestreams. Every stream, I do some unique challenge, kind of like this one. By "deadline" I really just meant the start of the stream.
So I placed mapspawn.nut in the vscripts folder and replaced the existing file. Yet, when i try and run the script ingame, I get an error where the game can't find a file called ppmod2.nut in a custom folder in vscripts? Am I missing something?

If you swapped Chell's model with another character; It's like you play the cleanup crew of the portal 2 game.
Resetting puzzles and going back through the game, so the next player/test subject can solve it when they come!

I really love the satisfying fact that the further you go back, the more dilapidated the facility looks, though it may of been unintentional, it sure as hell looks satisfying!
This is amazing. It puts me in mind of Forrest Gump where he'd been running for days, weeks, gained a massive crowd and was going through this big life changing movement, then just stops and says "I'm kinda tired. Think I'll go home now"

I’d love to see a high budget version. The plot could be like “something something timeline error, fix everything and start again”
By high budget I mean with voice acting and stuff, and tools to actually fix chambers.
I really appreciate that you did the extra work of having playtesters and revamping things that were unintutive or required more advanced techniques. I will definitely be checking it out!
Would be cool if a custom campaign is to trying to break into the lab as Chell for some reason

Would have been cooler of there were less ladders, and more debris because Wheatley is busy blowing up the place. Considering the pinned comment says that this mod got more updates, this may very well be the case by now. Also really hope that you reused some GLDOS lines (especially when you put her back in the bird nest)

Do you use some graphic mods? The Portals look a bit different but maybe Im just crazy
The console command "r_portal_use_dlights 1" gives the portals a bit of a glow. Other than that, it's just normal Portal 2 on highest settings.

i always thought Portal 2 was a long game, but after seeing this video, i realised it is not, not even close, you just skip the bossfight, unsolve some puzzles, fall down, unsolve more puzzles in the spheres, ascend, unsolve some more puzzles, and thats it!
