- I was kindly invited to try out the All New Yaris Cross by SLM Toyota Attleborough and it's safe to say I was impressed over all! The only slight niggle was the CVT gearbox being a little loud at times, however I can see why Toyota decided that the CVT box would be the best fitting - it is both cheap and efficient! What do you think?

Smashed it as per 👌🏻 I’m with you, having physical buttons so you can keep your eyes on the road is underrated! Also, I love that idea of my car scoring my driving…I wouldn’t do well 👀 I’ve always seen manufacturers release apps but I’ve never really seen huge value in them but being able to know what the warning lights are is a plus for start ☺️
The minute I see a huge iPad type screen it overwhelms me 😆 I had to try extra hard to make sure my driving was good so that I could test the real time MPG figures 👀 I know what you mean regarding apps, I’ve only really used the BMW one because of my company car but this Toyota one is pretty good. And I’m always smudging the screen which just annoys me 😂 aha I would need all my will power to try and get a good MPG, sounds like we should do a challenge video 😏 I’ve never experience a car which app will do things like open close windows etc so that would be cool to see! @@LifeInMotionuk yeah finger prints on screens gives me major ick! I go mad whenever someone tries to touch the screen in my car 😂 challenge video sounds like a good idea 👀 hopefully by 2030 these car apps will literally do everything imaginable 🤷🏼♀️😆

Excellent review. The cross is on my shortlist together with the Mk4 Jazz, but this seems a bit more substantial. On yours, and other reviews, the petrol engine cutting in does sound quite coarse, so refinement seems on par with other hybrids I've had a look at....

Really well balanced and objective review Grace 👍 I guess this Yaris Cross does share a similar architecture to the GR Yaris, so I can see how it could also be pretty engaging to drive - for an SUV at least! Would be awesome to see you review their upcoming GR86 when it gets released in the UK too 👌

Just ordered mine. I agree it is a bit noisy when revving hard especially when joining the motorway, but otherwise good car.
I believe that you would just get used to it within time, that was my only real criticism, everything else was pretty good. It’s nothing the radio can’t fix hey 🤷🏼♀️ enjoy your new car when it arrives!

I order mine too and can’t wait to play with it. My diesel sounds too so won’t change to much with the noise 😅.
I made a try on my own before the buy in the highway and small road and to be honest I went faster than other cars using cruise control, even faster than a Tiguan (I got a Tiguan ).
My partner was also impressive by the speed of the Cross (he has a GTD golf).
He loves the car (but won’t change his lol 😂).

Do you know if you have the Excel trim with 9" and order the city pack do they downgrade the display to an 8".
Yes it’s a source of frustration and uncertainty for me because I can’t get an answer out of the dealers as which would be the best choice and why should we downgrade a screen to get more useful features. I’ve not gone for the city pack because one chap said the 9” screen is much better.
@@judithkitchingman4419 Thanks. I ordered one today and no one told me that they would downgrade the screen, and only found this out by chance on an obscure non-toyota page. I will need to phone the sales person tomorrow and get them to remove the city pack as I prefer the new screen. Who wants to go back to the 8" that looks more like the 2015 Yaris screen. To say the least I am very irritated with the sales as they did not tell me and I think this is something that they should be doing as I specifically said how much I like the new screen layout
Oh and for the extra feature of the city pack on the Excel. Parking assist, dynamic reverse lines and Panoramic view Monitor (These are the only 3 extra in that pack that would be with it.) I think the screen is more of a benefit. 3 nice to haves VS a nice looking screen with a more up to date look and interface
Hi there, I have sent an email to one of the sales executives at Toyota so hopefully I can get an answer to you soon.
I have managed to get the following answer for you:
“The Yaris cross excel has Toyota Smart Connect as standard on the 9” multimedia screen which features connected cloud navigation, however if an upgrade to the city pack was made, this would give you the 8” Toyota touch with Go navigation, 360 degree panoramic view monitor, advanced parking assist and WiFi and voice recognition.
So the excel as standard has a cloud navigation that runs through the 4G SIM card in the car. For a full Satnav it will require the upgrade to the city pack.”

Dynamic looks cheaper than the Excel version, when comparing pricing
All wheel drive is a consideration if you live somewhere hilly and need more grip on icy roads. Talking of which the B on the gearstick is for driving down hills in slippy conditions. The car will then give you some engine braking. Otherwise thanks for the review. I've noticed this car is more of a hit with female reviewers.

Ah yes, the lovely droning sound of a CVT. It’s really hard to fault the Yaris Cross as “a car,” but for me, it’s a jumble of four things I really don’t want: a CVT, a Yaris, a crossover, and a hybrid. The old Yaris hatch here in the US had a reputation for being excruciatingly cheap and pathetic. Regardless, as “a car,” the Yaris cross is pretty decent. Overall, you did a wonderful job with this video; your knowledge is incredible. I hope the GoPro worked out for you. Great video, Grace!

Quite noisy when accelerate (8:04min) ,because is only three cylinder
And it’s a CVT too which contributes to the noisier engine
Sad you forgot to mention the back doors open only 60 degrees.
I wouldn’t say it was sad… I don’t script my videos so hard to remember every single thing about the cars I review.
I've had this car for 8 months. The first time I became aware of "issues" with the back doors opening was in reviews and comments on UA-cam. Afaic, the doors are fine.
other cars get noise piped in .-) Wonder why they insist on CVT auto…..
The rear end looks good. The front looks like it was drawn by a disappointed child.
Side on it's a bit harry high pants. Why all the ground clearance for a city car? Massive speed humps in Tesco's?
